The food here is delicious and massive. The pork chop dinner was enough for two people!  The fried fish, crispy. The fried shrimp, plentiful.  Chicken fried steak, huge!  All meals were reasonably priced as well. We enjoyed the Tri-Fecta, queso/salsa/guacamole with chips, as well as the shrimp wontons. Despite coming in on an evening after a festival, we were able to find a seat easily, and we received solid service.

Excellent food in a fantastic atmosphere! Be warned, the chicken fried steak is LARGE, but definitely worth it! The mashed potatoes are also amazing. Our waiter was friendly and efficient, and took great care of my party. I would definitely recommend this restaurant located in the picturesque Gruene historic district.

Can’t go wrong here! First time visiting Gruene and chose this restaurant. Small town vibe with historical feel. Very welcoming easy going vibe on Sunday afternoon 11:30 am. Best time before the rush. Got an outside table overlooking the Guadalupe River! Nice cool breeze and the service n food fantabolous! And the prices are great! Be hungry when you go because you will get large portions! Lunch Dinner all the same!

Super cool place with an old vintage building design and atmosphere. The food is wonderful and very tasty. Be sure to get the enchilada or the fish tacos. We also sipped down a few sweet teas.

This place is a special charm. From the moment you walk up you can feel the charming atmosphere. Such an inviting outdoor Oasis that tells of the great history of the city. Clean, beautiful and historic. As you walk in the charm just continues to follow. The building is well kept, very clean and full of history. The staff is welcoming, friendly and attentive. And even if all that wasn't so, the food is beyond amazing and worth experiencing. Delicious is an understatement. All the different meals were exceptionally tasteful. Everything was good. This has become our absolute favorite spot. From the experience of the charmful atmosphere to the satisfaction of a deliciously prepared meal, you will be glad you tried this restaurant.

As a long time patron of The Gristmill, we were excited to try this place. It did not disappoint! Service was exceptional and the food was delicious. We tried the Ribeye, Filet, and Pork Tenderloin. My Ribeye had a pretty big fat cap but still tasted great. Bloody Mary was also decent. I did feel the drinks were a bit pricey though. Sides were tasty and the creme brulee was delightful. We will definitely return.

Wife and I had a great dinner here tonight. First up, the ambiance is just lovely, and we were early enough to be seated with a perfect river view. She had the Ranch Water and I had an Old Fashioned and they were both quite tasty. We aimed for lighter fare given our earlier meals. She had the Chicken Guadalupe and I got the Chicken Piccata. Both of us subbed our mashed taters for rice, which turned out great. Highly recommend doing that. I'm sure their mashed taters are great and all but the rice completed both dishes perfectly. Our server Dylan didn't bat an eye at the request and did a great job.

This place was great! We came here for lunch after a fun day on the river. We walked in the front and there was a line, but since there was just two of us we were seated right away! Our waitress walked up right away once we were seated and ordered drinks, and she suggested that we try an appetizer so we did, we got the mozzerella sticks! We got our drinks quickly I ordered an old fashioned and it was perfect! the motz sticks were stretchy and delish! We soon after received our entrees i got the Chicken Guadalupe! Amazing flavor! Great comfort food! Flavorful chicken, potatoes, the entire dish is awesome! My wife got the Hawaiian Style Baby Back Ribs which were sticky, tender and fall off the bone! I wish we lived closer, but will definitely visit when we visit the area!

Loved it! The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and felt like a Texas-sized hug 🤗 I couldn’t say the food was exactly kid friendly bc the only thing a kid would like would be a burger or the taco I ordered. But even my taco was more of a mature taste bc of feta cheese & charred meat. Mimi liked her salad but we didn’t vibe with the dressing The waitress gave us lots of info and got us samples too

First time visit on a busy Sunday afternoon and we loved it. We were lucky to have no wait to sit on the patio and the views did not disappoint. Food was fantastic with prices that are very reasonable. Cucumber margarita was delicious. Definitely try the fried artichokes. Only con was no vegan options and very little vegetarian options. We don't always want a plain salad. PLEASE look into adding a simple black bean burger or some sort of main vegetarian dish.

Definitely one restaurant I love to frequent while in Gruene, Tx. The atmosphere of this restaurant is a very relaxing one. Has a cozy large cabin home in the woods feel to it. Makes me feel right at home...lol. The most special part is absolutely the food. I started off with the shrimp wontons appetizer and it is to die for. The salads are also super fresh and tasty. When I visit, I usually get the Shrimp & Grits, Chicken Fried Chicken, Meatloaf, or the Chicken Guadalupe. Those are my favorite menu items. All are very very delicious. The Happy Hour Old Fashioned is a major bonus. The servers were attentive and courteous. I super highly recommend you try Gruene River Grill, especially if you're out on a special date.

Beautiful location with a river view. The appetizers were Soo good. Calamari and Spinach dip were delicious. The wedge salad was so good, we took one to go! You have to try it The petite filet littirally melted in your mouth. The ribeye steak was cooked a perfect medium rare. Only one of two places this year we have had perfect steaks and filets are difficult to cook. The server was very friendly and made sure our selections did not come out on top of each other. The scenery was beautiful and people were friendly. The carrot cake and the creme brulee was awesome! My second time here and has not failed to satisfy in every way. I highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to my next visit.

While the interior is unsuspecting, the food is really excellent. The ribeye with balsamic glaze was a real standout and worth the price. Pictured are more "lunch" type options; fish and chips and fried shrimp. Both really good and I thought the slaw was particularly nice.

We’ve been here many times, but have never reviewed them before. Every time we eat and/or drink at GRG, we absolutely love it! The service is usually very good! My go to is the Balsamic Ribeye Steak!! The portion is generous and the flavor is awesome! The balsamic glaze is something I never thought I would like, but holy cow is it good!! My wife usually gets the meatloaf as she says it’s the best meatloaf (besides hers) that she’s had! Her go to bar drink is the Mexican Martini with Tito’s and mine is The Rattler Margarita. Both are fantastic!! The atmosphere of the restaurant is typical Gruene…..fun and relaxed. Highly suggest this when in Gruene!!

This place is quite good. I would highly recommend the pork chops they are enormous. The food is all fresh and delicious. Also recommend the real made in house Cheese Sticks. The atmosphere is something to behold whether you sit with the river view or in the old barn. The service is prompt and courteous and the kitchen knows what they are doing. Cannot wait to return!

Excellent Hawaiian baby back ribs however would have liked it served with more sauce on top but amazingly tender. Porkloin medallions were perfectly cook moist and tender. Atmosphere absolutely wonderful!!

This place always has a line, come early. Service was slow even though we came early. We weren't served until 45 minutes after we were seated. Our waitress forgot my iced tea, and I had to reorder it. She got queso sauce on the plate of my son's chocolate cake and still served it like that. I'm sure, like everywhere else they are short staffed. Beyond all of the little hiccups, the food is beyond excellent and it is our restaurant of choice for birthdays. We're always going to come back for the food, but wow, prices are crazy and staff must be short.

During my visit today, I had a Bloody Mary and the Shrimp & Grits. Both were excellent. The atmosphere was rustic, the view of the river was very nice and the presentation of both the drink and food was perfect. My only feedback would be that the meal was over salted. This may have been a one-off and by no means would stop me from ordering it again. As you can see by my plate.

Overrated copy cat of Gristmill. First, when arriving for lunch they weren't busy (less than half full) but it took 10 minutes for the hostess to finally acknowledge us, but that was only with a look and then walked away. There was a line behind us, and one group left (we should've followed) . We waited, and a few minutes later, she took us to our table, but never an apology for the delay. The waitress was nice and she was good, but the food was mediocre and portions were too small. Seriously, $10 for about 3 ounces of spinach and artichoke dip? (See the sad picture below) You get a much larger and better one at the olive garden or Gristmill for a similar price. Oh, and thanks for the huge helping of tortilla chips. I probably should've ordered 5 more dips to go through them all. I got the jalapeño glazed shrimp, and again for $25 only got 9 shrimp, and they were chewy. The glaze was very good though, only that can't make up for old rubbery over cooked shrimp. The rice also was very good. Maybe change the name of the dish if those are to be your main focus. The atmosphere gets 2 stars because it's like they're trying too hard to be like someone down the street. In any other city, this would get 5 stars, but come on, Gruene already has a Gristmill, and you are far from it.

Always have an enjoyable time here. Drinks are done O' so well, staff is friendly, few are funny, and the food was completely generous. We waited just under their quoted hour, but with libations and music from the town it was a breeze. Service was great and the ambiance suited the location well.

Wonderful service, food was delicious, location is tucked away behind other venues, but we were able to park in the big parking lot and walk straight back. Great ambiance for a romantic dinner and conversation. Blackberry cobbler for dessert was amazing. Will definitely come back!

The food was ok, not the best but not the worse. It seemed to be pretty pricey 130$ for an appetizer, two meals, three mixed drinks, two beers, & tip. Maybe we just don’t normally order that much, but my wife doesn’t drink much & didn’t feel anything after the three drinks. The atmosphere was nice & no wait, but we we were there around 4p. We loved the old building & it wasn’t too hot even though it was over 100 outside.

We had a great first-time experience here. Went on a Friday afternoon for dinner, and we didn't have to wait to be seated. The menu had a good variety of food choices, and the service was good. I love the charm of the place. We will be coming back soon.

Amazing!! Great food, excellent service and the place is a must see! Historic and charming with a rustic vibe. The ribs were super yummy and the Asian slaw was delicious! The Guadalupe Chicken was excellent!! Patrice was an excellent waitress-attentive and friendly.

NEVER a bad meal here! I honestly can't say that about any other restaurant. We have been so many times & the food is always delicious. My favorites are the Jalapeño Glazed Shrimp Brochettes, Blackened Redfish, Smoke Pork Tenderloin & for a special occasion (it's pricey) Filet Gorgonzola. My husband loves the Jalapeño Mandarin Pork Chops & the Balsamic Ribeye. Definitely worthy of 5 stars.

Family friendly environment with excellent food with fast service! I’ve never had a dish I didn’t like. We had shrimp dishes on this visit but the chicken fried steak, spicy meatloaf, carne asada tacos and many more entrees are a must. Makes it very hard to decide which dish to choose. The appetizers are excellent as well, we had the calamari and fried artichoke- the crust is perfect and crispy!!

That's my friend Oscar. We sat outside- had a river view. Food was fantastic. Only got a pic of one of the desserts we had-creme brulee. Great service!

Great food. A little pricey, but they have lunch specials online only so make sure to have a QR reader. Our server made us feel a rushed and as if our table wasn’t a priority. Other than that, scenic views of the river and a lovely dimmed dining area on the inside make for an enjoyable experience.

We came here for my sister’s birthday celebration. This place has nice little vibe to it. The staff was courteous and attentive. The food myself and my son ordered was great. I had the chicken fried chicken, and my son had a burger. However, the only complaint was my husband’s fish and chips came out a bit soggy and uncooked.

We have now been to Gruene River Grill twice and both times it was amazing! Every plate we have tried is absolutely delicious, always hot and tastes fresh/homemade. Cocktails are top notch. Very clean and up kept. Staff is very attentive and friendly. We definitely found our new favorite restaurant!

Really appreciate the gluten free options and accommodations. Everyone enjoyed all of their dishes. Looking forward to going back. Highly recommend.
