This restaurant has been present from the British colonial time and has been one of the most popular joint at Delhi visited by top notch personalities across the countries. The stories can be read in the menu card as one sits for the food to arrive and enlighten them on the history of the place. The food is tasty and prepared with lot of love. In a completely offline business, yet there is something to learn from them. Their ability to provide quality service and ask for reviews and the same can be seen flooding in the review board Must visit for good food, quality service and especially the history at all corners

No much uniqueness is seen apart from its geographical and cultural taste in a location like Indira chowk while competing with other cosines.. I didn’t see a great taste in beverages section at-least..

Its been Years i visited This place. Fortunately while crossing this area, thought to check today's status of food and all as it was always renowned for its tasty food & great service. I was wondering to see thats it's somehow became More graceful and nice. Delicious food, real band of South Indian filter coffee, still remarkable. They still deserve for appreciation as earlier. I Also felt glad to see their way of service & proper attention to each and every customer. I decided i will keep visiting whenever I ll get chance.

The Mysore masala dosa was good , It was nice and crispy and was served along with a side of 3 different chutney and sambar The most interesting side was the green chutney which had a strong punch of garlic. The idli here was also very good. Unfortunately the cold coffee they served was below average also had a weird aftertaste and also bit on the expensive side. Having said that… you should pay a visit to this restaurant if you are in or around CP as this is one of the most iconic places to eat in Delhi

Good place for quick bite. Authentic and delicious South Indian flavour. Filter coffee is awesome. One must try Vegetable Pakoras in South Indian style. Too good. Service is very good. They maintain the cleanliness quite well. Order to delivery time is reasonable. Just a caution, they do not accept credit card. Mobile payment, UPI payment and Cash are acceptable.

Only cash payments, and they do not provide you a bill. They are pocketing all the money without GST. Then they charged higher than the price written on the menu, so be cautious. Food was standard South Indian taste, as one may expect. My recommendation would be visiting Indian Coffee House instead, it's close by and had excellent experience.

Had a quick bite here on a weekend evening. Place was full, but I could get seat quickly. Server was polite and quick. Food came fast, probably because I ordered curd rice. Taste was authentic South Indian taste. Filter Coffee was also very good. On request, I was served sambar on the house, and it was really good. Place had an old rustic vibe.

Madras Coffee House has been able to successfully withstand money-making corporations and multi-national food chains and stand tall& proud as one of the oldest café’s/restaurants/hotels in the capital city. This coffee house is a legacy in itself because of its rich historical background and cultural importance. It emits a strong sense of pride and loyalty which is why the owner feels that in a couple of years, the Madras Coffee House will be considered as a heritage landmark. The ambience of this place is sure to make you nostalgic. The pale off-white walls running across the coffee house, covered with broad panels of metal engravings are met with dark orange tables and modest wooden chairs covered with an olive green fabric. The entire place is exactly how it was in the 1950 The menu is diverse with a wide array of dishes spread across Indian, Chinese and South Indian. The infamous filter coffee, the airy-light Idli’s and the delicious Special Masala Dosa were my favourites from the menu. The filter coffee was made just like any typical south Indian filter coffee served with a sugar pot. The Idli’s were soft and airy, accompanied by an authentic rendition of the coconut chutney & spicy Sambar, the special masala Dosa Is also irresistible

A very old & authentic place for South Indian food. Dosa was awesome, filter coffee could have been better. If they could do something on cleanliness and hygiene, it would be great.

"The past cannot be changed, but it can be rebuilt". This iconic restaurant in CP, Delhi, has been a thriving business since 1935, but was in a dilapidated condition. The last time I visited this place with my mom, the green sofa seats were torn from places, the front door was always half closed to hide its shame, and the menu was old-fashioned as well. I was absolutely sure, they were planning to close it down. But someone decided to save it. Now, it has a modern look, from front to back, with youngsters running the business, South Indian fusion menu, and new age prices as well. I tried the China Town Schezwan Onion Dosa, which was finger-licking good and Vietnamese Iced Tea, which may not be a favourite of many because the condensed milk at the end may be too sweet for some people.

Staff is very humble and professional... I ordered cold coffee for kid less ice.. best of best is they give perfact cold coffee and my son love it.. due to weather cold items not good for health.. seriously love the servings... This place is best for everyone.. already tried dosa, Vada and lemonade long time ago...

Loved the food and the service here. One of the most authentic South Indian food places I've come across in a really long time. The owner and staff are so kind and courteous. The food was really nice and the people in the kitchen did a good job😊 . Will surely visit again and recommend this place to family and friends. A must try when you visit is the filter coffee.

Only good thing here seems to be the polite staff members. Other than that, everything is just bad! The place doesn't feel ventilated or air conditioned, making it uncomfortable to sit inside. Also, the food I had was below average. Uttapam was undercooked and one could taste the batter in every bite. A small cup of filter coffee wasn't worth Rs 100. Chutneys had more water than needed. Please don't run a restaurant just because it's been there for long. Live up to it.

We ordered a tomato onion uttapam, tomato rice, and southie cold coffees. My favorite of these, hands down, were the coffees. Which, given that this is a coffee house, was a relief. They were still nostalgically milkshake-y and strong, but at our request, not too sweet. The uttapam was pretty standard, and the tomato rice were well seasoned, but very spicy, which may or may not be your thing. I liked the ambience – old school but chic, gentlemanly servers, soft Bollywood music. However, given that I went in expecting a state coffee house experience, everything was a tad overpriced. For essentially home style comfort food, we payed over 300 bucks per person, including tip. I’ll definitely come back here for the coffee and chill vibes, but not on days I need a dirt cheap eat.

The place needs good maintenance and a decent renovation. Considering the legacy of the place, it should have been maintained better. The tables are in bad shape. The servers are not really professional and polite. He started taking away the plate while we were still eating and food was still there. The food was standard South indian, no unique taste. We had uttapam, paneer dosa, masala onion dosa, chocolate mikshakes and tea. The quantity was decent for the price.

Old world charm brings a lot of people to this place. However this place needs a lot of upgrade in terms of service. 1. Hygiene 2. Cleanliness 3. Cutlery 4. Presentation of Food These are the things they need to work on.

What a surprise to find this quaint hotel. Tucked away at one end of Connaught place, this is certainly a place to experience. Not an exhausting menu, spartan, just like the hotel. Tried the Thali and it was good. Two things that need to be added to the hotel are, AC and a washroom. They can choose to keep thy hotel without an AC, but washroom is a must. Hopefully, they soon will have one.

I recently dined at this restaurant and was thoroughly impressed with the delicious food. The staff members were friendly and provided excellent service. However the lack of air conditioning made the dining area uncomfortably hot. The main gate being open also let in outside heat, forcing us to rely on hanging fans for relief.

Despite of negative rating i was fascinated to try this place because of name and its serving since 1935. So i visited and ordered one Masala Dosa and 2 Filter Coffee ( South Indian) and i can this one is the best coffee i have tried and masala dosa was also good. Ambient was very kind of old age but it will give you positive felling. Well i really want recommend this place to visit

Tried Filter coffee. Felt the authentic taste of coffee. Tried Masala dosa ,it was good. Sambhar was awesome. Fresh made chutneys and that too of three types was refreshing when u r eating outside after so long amid covid times. Charges are very reasonable according to location. Staff were very good natured. Two flaws I would like to mention that they should offer card payment option and also provide digital bill.

Sorry to say this, but the place doesn't live upto it's name and the place where it's located. The food is just an average. The staff is although looks experienced going by there age, but they lack that hospitality behaviour. Also the time of my visit it was seen the manager was having an argument cum scolding to one of it's staff just beside my table, such an unprofessional behavior. And it was repeatedly done again with another staff at the other table as well. All on all such a waste they have made of such a beautiful place. Although the menu is quite vast but I doubt if anything on it would actually be palatable. Please avoid this place as of now, might become a bit welcoming next time(fingers crossed).

I just don't get the hype! The cafe is from 1935 and poised to be one of the best in CP! We tried their Filter coffee which was okayish but nothing special. The alternatives next to Madras (Sarvana Bhavan, Navedham etc) have more or less same taste and price! Good enough for a one time visit and get it done with!

So after almost 20 years I got a chance to visit this coffee house. It was a popular colleg hangout in our times. The ambience was changed and it looks good. The moment we got our table the place started filling up. Music was good too. We ordered Rasam papad which was good 👍. Then we had Veg cutlets which were really tasty and I don't have to say anything about the coffee. The total amount was 500 something and no extra charge or service charge . We had a good time and enjoyed our food. They have more items that I will try in my next visit for sure. Good luck to the MCH family 🙏

It is a bit congested from inside with limited seating. About the food, we had veg thali and dosa which was okay. Also portion of coffee is massive and two person can share the same. They dont accept card payments hence make sure you carry cash or have upi available with you.

Loved Loved Loved the food. I am in love with their curd rice, a must-try. Overall as well, it was good, hardly 5 minutes waiting on peak hours. Staff is nice & friendly, top-notch food quality. They have Vietnamese Iced Coffee as well. Ambience : It was good too, however I would recommend them to add some nice bgm. Note: There is no restroom available.

The dosas at Madras coffee house were cold. The sambar was delicious but the cold dosas were a let down. The lemon rice had a lot of dal in it which hurt our teeth. Coffee was okay.

This is the best possible place in Delhi for authentic South Indian Food. The dosas are to die for.. and the ambience and feel is homely. If you don't go here you are surely missing out on something that is a piece of heritage.. plus obviously the great food.

When you enter in this cafe first thing you will notice is a unpleasant smell. Old broken and dirty furniture. Cockroach all over table. Old dirty menu passing through one table to another. 90% of menu item are not available. They serve what they have. They don't understand mean of hygiene. Staff very rude and dirty cleaning spoon by their own hand. If you will order a coffee there you are really going to regret that. Don't take a chance to even try this place. They accept only cash.

  • 3/5 Saw K. 1 year ago on Google
A bit costly but nice ambience you may feel some sort of positive vibes. Although, the worst part is their waiters the service is very poor. Nobody will come to you again waiters are only looking for new tables. Food is average but I can say much better than coffee home and Indian coffee house. I think it's the only place to enjoy the filter coffee.

We haven't had any food. But, tasted thier bestseller, Filter Coffee; Vietnamese Cold Coffee and Black Filter Coffee. For a place with this name, they don't have authentic South Indian Filter Coffee. At least, it wasn't to my taste. I liked the Vietnamese Cold Coffee better. Service is really good. The ambience is not so memorable.

A place that serves one hell of a filter coffee! The food is also good but south Indian is where their service really shines. The atmosphere however was quite disappointing. A very old antique and rustic vibes from this place ( not the good kind ☹️). Also, no A/C in the middle of June! The place looks like it never had any renovation done for the past 25 years. Also, who charges 120 for a cup of filter coffee!? It's not like you're getting even a one star service. I've had better filter coffee in Bangalore for 20 rupees.

Visited for the experience and it was quite something. The history was what drew me here and I’m glad I visited. The interiors take you back in time…Hugh ceilings and the beautiful chandelier remind you of an era that was. I loved the filter coffee and the dosa and actually nibbled on it plain…it was so tasty.
