We took a few busses from Taipei Main Station to get here in the afternoon. It was quite a long journey but the Old Street and food was worth it! I'm a huge fan of old streets and I loved walking along this short but sweet street taking in the sights and smells of stinky tofu. I've been wanting to try authentic stinky tofu for ages and I was not disappointed by the choices or the taste. The price was good too! We got the stinky tofu pot, fried stinky tofu and steamed stinky tofu. They were all wonderful. There are a few retro shops selling old snacks and toys and shopping inside was like exploring a time capsule. I highly recommend everyone flying to Taipei to make a trip out to Shenkeng!

A very long street. Many many shops and restaurants. Specialty: tofu dishes. Can be very crowded at weekends. Good bus service from Taipei.

Awesome old tourist street for plenty of stinky tofu and shopping. Plan in about 2 hours including some street snacks. Skip the tofu ice cream but do sample the grilled tofu on a stick if you are feeling brave. Public toilet is alright but BYOTP (bring your own toilet paper!).

Shenkeng Old Street is a must-visit destination for those traveling to Taipei. This historic street is located in the town of Shenkeng, about 30 minutes outside of the city center, and is famous for its traditional Taiwanese snacks, such as stinky tofu and glutinous rice cakes. As you stroll down the narrow alleyways, you'll be transported back in time to Taiwan's past, with traditional red brick buildings and charming storefronts selling handmade goods and souvenirs. The atmosphere is lively and bustling, with locals and tourists alike jostling for a taste of the delicious street food. Aside from the food, there are also several temples and shrines to explore, including the Shenkeng Cihu Temple and the Shenkeng Shengmu Temple. The architecture and cultural artifacts on display here are a fascinating glimpse into Taiwan's rich history and religious traditions. Overall, Shenkeng Old Street is a must-visit for anyone interested in Taiwanese culture and cuisine. The street's unique atmosphere and delicious food make it a perfect destination for an afternoon of exploring and snacking.

I thought the street will be very busy but seems not so many people today. Neat and clean place quite similar to night market.

An old street known for its red bricks and stinky tofu, this area has much more restaurants than street-food vendors. The stinky tofu I tried here was very flavorful and was not too 'aromatic', making it more palatable. This place is very pretty at night.

One short street. Good for taking photo. Food is not as good as night market. Shop are mainly selling local tofu/bamboo products. Recommend spend less than 90mins there.

Shenkeng old street is good to spend time with whole family. Can bring your kids to enjoy what you has been eat during 90's century childhood. There are a lot 90's tibits , toys , and games. Elderly might like the old style of the shop. Can buy foods and keychain for memory. Why know 1 very famous and good medicine, pearl cream 精汉堂珍珠膏,can get from here. Speedy recovery for those cut and injury. 对烫伤,刀伤,皮肤炎非常有效。

Been here before. Felt like this trip was less crowded and toned down. It as busy as I recall. There was a bus load of older tourists that was getting ready to leave. As soon as they left, it felt like the placed emptied out. Could be COVID’s lingering effect or that we visited on a Tuesday afternoon. Known for its stinky tofu, they are not shy about it. There are no less than 5 places at the entrance to the street selling stinky tofu prepared a handful of ways. We did get one that was cooked over coal. That was really good. Quiet a few if the shops were closed. Again, it was a Tuesday so that maybe why.

Lovely old street full of delicious local street snacks. Stinking tofu is the must-try dish.

Visited with a tour group on Friday, lunch time. Not much to see. Perhaps the pending rain + day time caused a lot of stalls to shut their business. Do your research before you go to get the most of the (limited) historic sites. A LOT of stinky tofu so be warned if you dislike stinky tofu😆. Saw a couple other interesting food stalls; food was hit and miss. Would prefer to visit other tourist sites or night market.

Away from the urban jungle, this rustic Tofu Street will capture your imagination, selling Tofu related products, eg ice cream, mochi, food fares!

You know how some times a pretty place is just not pretty? Let me explain. This market must have had an original vibe, once upon a time, the architecture is beautiful and still well preserved. Now its overly touristy, with average quality products (the ice cream I tried was tasteless and the pastry was stale). The shopowners are hovering and a bit pushy at times. Not really worth the trouble.

Fantastic old street with old houses and a lot of different shops. Come here for stingy tofu. It’s just delicious. I swear.

An old street with small shops on both sides. It's very traditional and should visit at least once. the price is not so exciting but are fair comparing to other markets in general. 😅

Shenkeng Old Street (深坑老街) is one of those old streets promoted throughout Taiwan to attract tourists as a way of developing alternative economic activities to revitalize old streets that were at the risk of being throw into oblivion. For those of you who will visit this place for the first time, some of the food you should not forget to try are: Stinking Tofu (臭豆腐) Green Bamboo Shoots (綠竹筍) Iberian Pork (黑毛豬肉) Meat Dumplings (肉粽) Tapioca Bubble Ball (粉圓)

It was very nice. Not overly crowded and a beautiful day at that.

Shenkeng Old Street is definitely one of my favourite places to visit in New Taipei City. The thing this are is most famous for is its stinky tofu, which is a fermented tofu that can come in a grilled variety or in a soup. Both are delicious. The street itself gives of a warm and historic atmosphere that makes a walk through special. It can be very crowded on weekends, so if you are able to visit on a weekday, I would definitely recommend it.

Very nice old street. Very clean. So many specialized tofu restaurants here. Also, try soy milk or tofu based gelato ice cream.

Though a nice street (short) to take a leisure walk, window shopping (just browsing) , try some stinky tofu; unfortunately, not worth making a special trip for.

Shenkeng Old Street (深坑老街) was once an important gateway for commerce. Now it is a popular (and crowded) heritage destination. Famous for its tofu, you can find numerous stores selling stinky tofu, fried tofu, spicy tofu, tofu hotpot, tofu dessert and more. Also many souvenirs store with locally made products. More for those seeking a local and historic experience. Many old buildings and on a leas populated day (if there be one), lots of opportunities for great photos.

Diverse tofu food here and some good traditional architectures remain. Though sometimes crowded and the historic sites are not all maintained perfectly … still a place that you could enjoy and memorize the old scenes.

  • 3/5 Ed 2 years ago on Google
The buildings on this old street has mostly been rebuild. I didn't see any original old buildings. Most of the buildings only keep the old front, but the inside is completely rebuild. Short street, most people come here for the food rather than the old buildings.
