You can tell that they are used to the bus loads of tourists arriving early afternoon. We went through it twice, first in the morning when we were the only tourists around, and they were just setting up and settling snacks and sausages to the locals. We came back around two pm and there was much more activity, once the busses had arrived. I oiled the morning vibe better. It was interesting to discover local foods and fruits we had not seen in the cities, such as gac fruit and passion flowers ( I don't know how these are used). When you reach the bridge, the view of the river with the old buildings on each side is very pretty.

I still remember last time was here, the street packed with tourists. My favourite is the candy store far end of the shop street, with live performance of the master twisting/folding the candy mixture. Those are gone now, even the big pop-up bbq pits runs by local tribals is gone. Oh well, the local eatery shops still around serving local specialties dishes. Plus bad weather not really ideal to walk around but good for hotspring bath 😊 don’t forget to visit the waterfall. Hopefully year 2023 everything will be back to normal 🙏 Note: for solo traveler, save cost just take bus 849 from Xindian mrt station (green line). Turn left when exit from mrt station. It will take about 30-40minutes bus ride. Please for God sake, save yourself the trouble and get Easy Card or others similar cash card for local transport ride. Just remember to tap once you board, and tap again when you alight from bus. Easy and simple 😇

Loved this area WAY more than Jiufen. The aboriginal vibe and them cooking tasty foods. The live entertainment, cafes on the mountain looking out at the waterfall, and so much much that I loved. Even though there is a little bit of noise... the waterfall is so soothing and relaxing! ~The bus ride was super crowded and long but worth the wait.~

Yesterday, although it was not a regular holiday, the business was good. The epidemic prevention measures were also paid attention to, and the people cooperated. Everyone wore masks to go shopping in the old street and felt very relieved. (Original) 烏來老街歷經多年前的風災和去年的疫情,但是它都挺過來了!昨天雖然非例假日,可是生意卻還不錯,防疫措施也有在注意,人們又配合,大家都戴上口罩逛老街,感覺很安心。

It’s an old and traditional place where you can see plenty of Taiwan features including traditional food or buildings, especially visitors would enjoy the relaxing atmosphere and experience local food and local cultures! Because of Covid-19, the population of visitors decreases, the stores there open on weekends, even though, it’s worth visiting and having a great time hanging out with friends or family!

Maybe 100 meters long, this old street is lined with small shops, food stalls, and restaurants as is typical. I walked here from my resort to get some food and you can walk from one end to the other in 15 min with a little browsing, or 5 min quickly. I picked a very popular chicken skewer/sausage vendor at the end near the main river and got a very nice fruit tea from a shop at the other end. There is a seating area toward the main river area with nice views. The chicken skewers were very good for reference. Overall I enjoyed my walk and browsing the shops. Would definitely recommend a quick stop if you're in the area.

Wulai old street is a decent spot off Taipei accessible by bus /car or cab. The sight of a fast flowing river in the area is really something to behold and the pictures probably dont do much justice. Enjoyed the onsen there for cheap, 400NT for about 1 hour per person, with the view of the river. Brilliant stuff. Food there is rustic, id recommend the shop where you would see this bubbly gentleman in Traditional Tribal Costume greeting you as you pass by. The shop prepares real traditional food of the Wulai people and its really filling for about 1000NT for a meal for 3.

Loved this experience. What a beautiful slice of Taiwan. Easily reached by Taipei's bus service. I recommend the log train, which was down for maintenance while I was there, and taking the gondola ride up to the resort above Wulai. You need to pay for the gondola ride, but it is free to tour the resort grounds. What a gorgeous area.

I love Wulai area because of Hot Springs, nice nature, restaurants and night market, and a very special coffee show with Atoyal relics inside. It is easy to get from the city, busses are usually not too busy. Also have a lot of parking space for scooters and cars. Come here to spend a good and a relaxing day!

I parked my car by the school, allowed myself a good 10 minutes strolling, wondering around before I entered into the “old street”. Definitely, tourists are starting to come back. Saw a few Hong Kong visitors buying fruits. I bought myself a bottle of millet wine 45 proof if it matters, and a pack of dehydrated strawberries for Matthew and Austin, my two lovely grandchildren. I was here about a year ago for lunch, price was reasonable and food was edible.

Good hot spring area!! The hot spring here smells neutral. There isn’t any sulphuric smell. There’s lots of good food at the old street. We had the pork, small fish and prawn snack too! Really yummy! It was so cold, so we had the rice wine too! Very enjoyable! And the hot spring is really good for your skin.

A place similar to Miyazaki movies. Tranquil in nature yet exciting. How to get to Wulai? Just take a bus 849 from xindian station. Enchanting place. Foods are affordable and delicious. Lots of eatery and souvernir shops. You can even ride the train, walk the area and then climb your way towards cable car to another area (resort) Just make sure to visit the place in the morning since you need to do a lot of walking. Truly a place to remember.

It's an almost 2 hr ride on public transport, having to change bus in between to get there. So instead of paying NT60 on public transport, I decided to be indulgent and took an Uber instead (NT905) which got me there in 50 mins. Started the day at Wulai Old Street 乌来老街. I was too early and even at almost 10am, most shops are not opened yet, so I strolled along the street to the other end where the Blue Bridge is and here is where you find the public toilet (not bad, decently clean) and the stairs to the Log Cart (台车) station. Went into a mama shop, selling old school stuff such as toys (including those mini throw-pop-sparklers) and sweets, souvenirs etc. Got some yummy red Guava and their famous Black Pork 马告 (a local spice) grilled sausage. There are many onsen options here but the weather was just too hot so I left with trying.

Absolutely amazing! We've been to many of the big attractions around taiwan and I have to say this is definitely in the top three. I only with the gondola didn't go directly over the waterfall. Since it was under our feet we couldn't see it on the ride up. Even in the rain it was gorgeous and such a nice little trip from the little market to the train ride to just walking around.

  • 5/5 Patrick D. 6 months ago on Google
Home to the indigenous Atayal people, this beautiful mountainous area of Taiwan is a must on the list of places to visit. There is so much to do here that we didn't have enough time to take full advantage of the vast array of unique sites, shops, restaurants, and experiences. I highly recommend trying some of the local specialities, such as bamboo rice (sticky rice steamed inside a bamboo cane). There's some very local beer in a couple of places which we sampled and was very tasty. We purchased lots of beautiful handmade items from a gift shop selling only local produce from the local indigenous tribe. As with the rest of Taiwan, this place is full of extremely welcoming, friendly, considerate people.

Nice little historic town to explore, with a short stretch of old street to shop for food and some little souvenirs. Worthwhile place to visit since it’s only an hour journey from Taipei city. I enjoyed the millet mochi - the texture was really different from a regular mochi. But do take note most vendors only open from 11am/12pm. We arrived early around 10am hoping to beat the crowd, but most shops weren’t open yet and we needed to wait.

  • 5/5 WL L. 6 months ago on Google
The bus 849 from Xindian Station was packed with people, but we were glad it wasn't as crowded in Wulai Old Street. Even though it is not a very long street, there are many food options, millet products, as well as a glimpse of the Atayal culture. Highly recommended.

A stretch of street, about 200m, mainly selling food and souvenirs. Some of the shops are not opened in the morning. So a good time to reach this place is after 12pm. Restaurants here are not cheap in their prices. Be sure to try some of the local aboriginal food such as wild grown vegetables, gac fruit juice, bamboo rice etc.

Took bus 849 from Taipei Main station Qingdao to Wulai end station. Whole trip took almost 45-1hour to reach, even on a early morning weekday. The bus was jam packed with people boarding. We visited in late November while the bridge was still repairing. Most people head toward the amusement park inside the mountain. We went around exploring the area. Really less touristy during the time of the year

  • 4/5 Hanh N. 4 months ago on Google
🥢Good place for vacation with delicious food, specially the grilled mochi, fish tempura, grilled sausages and the mochi with peanut/black sesame/taro/red bean. 🖼️ The landscape is absolutely beautiful with fresh air. You could let yourself enjoy nature here. There're perfect views for photo shoots. 🧳 We had to wait for the bus for quite a long time to get here (the morning schedule is like 50 minutes - 1 hour / bus) but it's cheap (about 30 ntd/person from Xindian mrt). You can also take the taxi to go directly up here for about 30 minutes but it's quite expensive (150 ntd/person from Xindian mrt)

Wulai Old Street is located in Wulai District, New Taipei City, with Wulaili as the center, along Wulai Street Waterfall Road and Huanshan Road as the main development area. On Wulai Old Street, it can be found that the streets are all paved with slate, and the signboards of each store also adopt a unified style, presenting a consistent style, and the arrangement looks extraordinarily neat. Because the Atayal people are the main residents in Wulai area, each store is full of aboriginal customs, making the whole old street unique. 🚘 Weekend parking center waiting time 30min-1hr ♿️👶 wheels is okay, watch out for crowds ⏰ stay time: usually 2-5hours. If there is a hot spring trip will take 3-6hours
