I flew to New York from Chicago for 3 days with the intention of exploring the diamond district and all of the Instagram jewelers that I have followed. After day 1 I was exhausted and felt like the jewelers weren’t listening to what I wanted, and I was frustrated. In my notebook I had 5 places; prices for diamonds, and I rated the jewelers. Day 2 when I entered the diamond district I stopped in Roman Malakov after it not being on my initial list. Meir sat with me for 45 minutes, and listened to what i wanted. When I left to look at other places I knew that I wanted to work with him; if we could meet on pricing. When it came to decision time we met in the middle on pricing; and that was fine with me because I knew he’d execute my vision. Long story short in front of 20,000 people at the Golden State Warriors game in San Francisco I presented this masterpiece of a ring to a standing ovation. Definitely visit them, and even if you can get better pricing that doesn’t mean you’ll get a better piece of jewelry.

This was fine, but my experience with Boris at Roman Malakov was very different. Boris has a certain style and a way about him that makes you comfortable with the ring you're buying, and also points you in a good direction. He'll talk you through all of your options and show you samples for each choice. He doesn't try to upsell you, and he takes good care of you even after the proposal. My fiancee and I needed the ring resized very quickly due to a move, and he did it for us beautifully, for free, and in one day. I highly recommend this shop, and intend to use it for all of my future jewelry purchases. Bonus - if you're getting an engagement ring, you'll get a beautiful box with it that even has a little light pointing at the ring.

I honestly can’t say enough about my experience with Roman Malakov and more specifically the one on one with Michael. I’m a very skeptical shopper and was very wary about shopping for an engagement ring. When I walked in Michael sat with me and I told him the idea I had in mind and let him know that I didn’t want to commit to anything right away. He said he understood and took everything I had under consideration and let me know that he was there to build a relationship and not to push anything onto me that I didn’t want. He understood and the final rendering looked pretty good but I admit it required some imagination. Although I was apprehensive Michael talked me through and assured that it would be a great ring. Michael sent me pictures of the final product and told me that it looked even better in person. When I came into the store to see it all apprehension and caution dissipated and I was amazed. I spent a couple months looking the perfect engagement ring. I looked in jewelry stores and online trying to find exactly what my fiance described to me. I walked into Roman Malakov on a whim, just to browse a bit, and started describing to Boris what I wanted. He found a band that was close to what I wanted and then offered to customize it to give me exactly what I was looking for. He also brought out a selection of center stones, and I found just what I was looking for. The ring was finished very quickly, and I proposed to my fiance the same day. Recently, she and I went back to look at wedding bands, as we wanted hers to complement the engagement ring perfectly. We found a few contenders, and Boris helped to explain the benefits and drawbacks to the items we were considering. Ultimately, he recommended a less expensive option for the wedding band, as it was a better fit with the engagement ring. I'll definitely be back on our first anniversary to find that perfect gift!

Highly recommend working with Boris at Roman Malakov! I first met Boris + team over a year ago when a friend suggested I visit them to resize my engagement ring (family heirloom). They did a terrific job resizing AND fixing the setting when my stone came loose AND polishing the ring. A year later when my husband and I were looking at wedding bands I remembered the great experience I had with Boris and revisited. I shopped around for "eternity" style women's wedding bands and didn't find anything that came close to the style, quality, or price offered here. They custom made my ring and I absolutely love it. Selecting an engagement ring can be tough. Designing and constructing a symbol of your love from scratch is even more challenging. Only the best will do, but there are so many questions and variables...including the most important one - with whom should you partner? Sure - the selection at Roman Malakov is impressive, and it's extremely clear that this family-run business is talented. What sealed the deal for me was meeting and speaking with Boris in person. Here was a person who had a passion and the soul of an artist. Completely collaborative, knowledgeable, patient, and gracious. Everything was perfect - down to the tiniest details that led my now fiancee to say "this is the most comfortable ring I've ever worn". Diamonds are of the highest caliber, craftsmanship is impeccable, and the service - both in person and remote (I don't live in NYC) was exceptional. As far as I'm concerned, Boris has earned a lifelong customer in me, and I'll be returning not only for my wedding rings but also for any other piece we may dream up.
