After ordering, we were given a platter with bread, cornbread and picked veg. I don’t recommend the pickled vegetables unless you’re a fan of extremely sour foods. Our fried calamari arrived quickly. It was hot and crispy but could use more seasoning. Unfortunately, our dining experience was ruined with the rotten lobster tail that was included in the broiled combo we ordered and the bad customer service we got from the manager. After reporting the lobster to the manager, he went back to our table and confirmed to us that the food item was indeed spoiled. The manager then offered a refund, which we agreed to. He then asked if we were regulars or first time visitors. I found it odd that he had to ask, but I it seemed it had an impact on how we were going to be charged. We received the bill and we were fully charged for the food and only the drinks were written off. We called the manager’s attention and reminded him of his refund offer but he said he can only do a discount. Suddenly the manager backs off from his word. Don’t ever bother going to this place. It’s expensive for a mediocre meal and poor customer service. There are so many restaurants in Manhattan with the same price point with better quality seafood.

First time at Sammy’s and am pretty pleased. The hostess was very nice and caring, she asked if we had any birthdays in our party of 17. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. The servers came when we sat down and wanted to take our drinks right away not giving us a chance to get comfortable, we asked for them to give us a few minutes to settle in. They came back and started to take our drink orders, brought a very delicious warm sesame seed bread, pickle veggies, cheese. I ordered the lobster and lobster bisque; the bisque was edible and flavorful wish it had plenty of lobster. My lobster was good so was the stuffing in the lobster (that’s what it appeared to be). My friends ordered shrimp, clams, lobster rolls, scallops, etc. Every meal came with a salad, rice, and corn on the cob. Overall we were all please with the food. The service could use some friendly courtesy. They have parking and it worth the try, will be back to try their crabs and shrimp platter

Cycled 45 miles from Long Island and couldn’t find a bakery nearby. Saw the $15.95 advertised poster outside and got drawn in. Was looking for a quick bite before sunset, didn’t want to get caught cycling in the dark. Cashier machine was down for 10 minutes and customers were waiting. I explained I can pay cash and needed to be on my way. Please 🙏🏻 hurry. The gentleman/manager told the girl to use a different register. Asked kitchen to expedite my order. Thank you 🙏🏻 Low expectations for this fast food meal. WOW 🤩 WOW 🤩. 10 Jumbo sized shrimp lightly fried. Succulent & seeping with flavor. Came with extra large fries, a coleslaw salad & pickle slice. Tremendous value 👍👍. Good for 2. I must applaud the quality & size of the shrimp. Very impressive and I can’t wait to return. Next week possibly if weather permits. How have I passed up this wonderful place for 10 years since coming to City Island? Today was my lucky 🍀 day 🥇🥇

The place is nice and spacious. The service was slow but our waiter was super nice. My friends loved the food, I found it a little bit too salty and garlicky. They give you a complementary salad and bread to start. Overall is was nice on a Wednesday.

Fresh bread and cornbread good to start the meal with. Ordered the seafood chiller, from raw to cooked very fresh. Here’s for the 5lbs lobster ($160) but pricey I think. Overall good food and very good services.

Hanging out in my hometown of Yonkers and I've got some family from out of town here as well. So when we're all here there's something we absolutely have to do, go to City Island for seafood. Lol. My parents are a little on the older side so when they say "City Island", they meant a specific restaurant. However, the wait time for that place was so insanely long that we tried someone where new... Sammy's Fish Box. Here's how it went... Atmosphere/Appearance: Right on the main strip crammed in among the other businesses is this gem. There's actually 2 locations very near each other so things can get a bit confusing. Parking is a nightmare, honestly. Good luck. If you can find a spot on the street, like I did, that's your best bet. However, if you can't find a place on the street there are parking lots up and down the block that will be happy to take your money. Once inside you're a bit overwhelmed. It's so busy. Busy with customers and people, but also busy with decor. There are glowing signs above your head, light wood EVERYWHERE, plants and paintings seem to be randomly scattered throughout and the layout can be confusing. I guess all you really need to know is where your table is and where the bathroom is. Lol. Service: I can't remember who took care of us, but there were 8 of us and they didn't miss a beat. Food: The menu here is huge. There are so many variations of dishes then those same dishes can be fried or put into combinations. Lol. There's just so much. Just visit their website. To start the meal complimentary bread with cheese and pickled vegetables is brought out to the table to share. For my entree I went with the shrimp-stuffed sole with a side or corn on the cob and rice. Delicious. It wasn't fine-dining level, but still VERY tasty. Everything has a delicious garlic-buttery flavor that just works! Lol. Value: It's seafood AND it's New York. Do your own math. Lol. $54.95 for my entree which again, includes the entree, the complimentary stuff and sides. So, come prepared to pay, but you'll really enjoy yourself. In conclusion, I'm glad that Johnny's Reef was so busy because it gave my family a different place to try out. You know? I'm all about trying new restaurants so it's about time they did too! I'd totally check this place out again. Their menu is long enough to keep any busy for a LONG time!

My father and I had just got done boating into the city and had docked on City Island earlier in the day. A quick Google search found this place, Sammy's and we headed in. Cannot begin to describe how much this meal hit the spot. We came hungry but were no match for the portions here. Everything from the clams, to the scallops to the shrimp (more on that later) was incredibly fresh and cooked to golden perfection. Back to the shrimp. They were both easily the largest shrimp I have ever had but also easily one of the top 3 shrimp bites of my semi long life. Incredible. In short, I would find it hard to be disappointed here, perhaps scan the menu ahead of time if you're in a hurry, they have all of Poseidon's children on it. A true seafood lover's paradise and a must try for anyone in NYC!
