Terrible - been going for 2 years because of insurance and other details. Every horror story you will read here is true (besides the fake 5 star reviews, see below). I never write reviews, but I need to voice my concerns for future patients. This is without question the worst doctors office I have ever been to. Some doctors have been excellent, but most leave/quit after seeing how the place is run. It confuses me why any self-respecting doctor would actually work here when all patients hate it. Only 1/10 visits ends up going smoothly. The office managers and receptionists know that people hate coming in for their visit and will have to wait forever. The staff is extremely slow, but they aren't terrible. Most are kind. I've routinely waited on hold on the phone for 30-45 minutes. The administration of the office is horrendous. If you value your time, predictability, consistency then you really can't justify coming here unless you absolutely need to. The 5 Star Reviews are 100% fake. They ALL contain Russian language syntax errors and fake stories. You'll also notice that almost all of them contain the exact words "Downtown Psychiatric Group" or "Downtown Psychiatric Group - Manhattan" without any other punctuation and an extreme overuse of the comma. What had me write today's review was a nurse practitioner who actually didn't write my prescription out of spite when I asked to have the medication sent to another pharmacy. It was really shocking and the whole thing has had me wait on hold for hours and wasted so much time for me and my family. They are definitely breaking laws whether they are written or unwritten ones.

Worst medical office to have to work with - they are simply horrible at communicating and following up, cannot keep track of information beyond one email, and act as a massive bottleneck in getting the medication I need. They reschedule and randomly charge me without notice all the time as well. I've had a credit balance on my account for months because of how much they overcharge me by accident. I love the doctors I have but I really wish they didn't use this terrible office.

Let me start by saying I don't write reviews, but this place is just that bad. The receptionists at this place are so unhelpful. Dr. Singh is so great but it's gotten to the point where I have to find a new one just because it's always such a hassle to get what I need BECAUSE of the horrible receptionists. Another issue is that I cannot contact my doctor directly. It has to go through the front desk email or phone. I needed a emergency prescription but I was out of state, so they couldn't fill it. After they told me that, they gave no follow up on what I could do. My medicine that I NEED. Absolutely horrible. Avoid this place.

This is the worst doctor's office I've ever dealt with in my entire life. If you struggle with any mental health issues, which you obvious do if you're coming here, prepare for this practice to make them a LOT worse. The nurse who treats me is fine. But if you need to make a new appointment or refill a prescription? Prepare to wait on hold for at least an hour to speak to a human being. Also prepare for them to be completely useless. I needed a controlled substance called in and they informed me my nurse practitioner was on vacation. I said fine, put me on the calendar for when he comes back and call in the prescription in the meantime. They told me they couldn't reach him and they'd follow up to see if another provider could call it in. Again, this is a controlled substance that would leave me with withdrawals if I don't have it. They never followed up after five attempts to contact them. The office administrators DO NOT CARE about the patients, they are irresponsible and negligent. Please go ANYWHERE else. They suggested I go to the emergency room if I needed my prescription filled which would cost over 2k. This is the most negligent, incompetent doctor's office EVER.

I rarely write reviews but given I received a security breach notification today, I thought it necessary to share my experience. I was briefly a patient in February 2021 before ending my care. My intake was abysmal and rushed, and the PA-C (Partovitabar) that I saw was not only cold and rarely made eye contact, but my follow-up appointment for medication management was completed in under 3 minutes, and my insurance was billed for over 300+ USD for that follow-up visit. This is unacceptable clinical practice and IMHO a red flag. Given the reviews here, though, I am not surprised. As a psychiatric provider, I urge potential clients to search elsewhere and read reviews from multiple sources before deciding on care here. Mental health care should not be rushed and needs to be given the same amount of time and care as any other specialty. Search for care that treats you as a person and gives you the time of day and doesn’t treat you like another number in a money-making machine. Be well.

If you think the reviews are dramatic, I can assure you that they are not. A complete overhaul of their office staff is needed. My experience here has been frustrating, tiresome, and just generally disappointing. They do not care for the patients or their well-being which is surprising given this is a psychiatric office. Extremely sloppy operation here. If you can avoid, do so. The NPs are not the issue here but I would advise spending the extra time to find another place.

If I could give negative stars I would. This is the first time I'm writing a review (in general) because I am APPALLED at the unprofessionalism and blatant disrespect this company has for their client's time. I'm pleased with their psychotherapists (God bless German Sanchez) but the policy for their psych department is to receive ADHD testing at the downtown location. The place is an hour and a half away from me (whether I drive or take train) yet BOTH times I went I was informed once I arrived that the person doing the testing is not there. The first time I went they said she was sick but the second time I went there was no one even in the office! Their lack of communication is horrible even within their own department and the indifference they have when their client comes all the way to be stood up is terrible. I took time off of work and had to juggle other appointments to make this work for no reason. It was a waste of over 3 hours travel time round trip for me not once but twice.

Literally the worse establishment, from psychiatrists, therapists, billing department, and the office manager. They hardly respond to any of my emails or calls (office and manager). The psychiatrist that I was working with did not give me any assessment and on our first call diagnosed me within 5 min of our conversation not having any knowledge about me since they never asked questions. She was also very cold...not what you would expect when you are talking to a psychatrist. The therapist was kind but not helpful at all. Just asked me, how did that make you feel? Moreover, they don't know how to bookkeep and always lost track of billing. I started seeing them in June of 2021 and was billed for visits in December 2020 - May 2021. Instead of apologizing, they insisted that I owed them for visits that I never had. I have been seeing a new psychiatrist, COMPLETELY a different experience. She did 2 full assessments and said I was completely missed diagnosed. In the two months, I started seeing my new doctor, I feel sooooo much better. When I was seeing Downtown, my depression never got better obviously since they miss diagnosed me and caused more anxiety because of the bookkeeping and lack of communication/responses. I would AVOID DPG at ALL costs!

I had the privilege of receiving psychiatric services from Nurse Practitioner Dustin Van Holten, and I must say that my experience was nothing short of excellent. From the moment I scheduled my first appointment, I was impressed by Dustin’s professionalism and his commitment to providing exceptional care. One of the standout qualities of Dustin is his timeliness. I never had to wait long for my appointments, and he always ensured that our sessions started promptly. This level of punctuality is a testament to his respect for his patients’ time and his dedication to maintaining a well-organized practice. Beyond being punctual, Dustin’s friendly and accommodating nature made each visit a comfortable and positive experience. He created a warm and welcoming environment that immediately put me at ease. His compassionate demeanor and genuine care for his patients truly set him apart as a healthcare professional who goes above and beyond. During our sessions, Dustin demonstrated an exceptional level of expertise in psychiatric care. He listened attentively to my concerns, asked insightful questions, and provided valuable guidance and support. His knowledge of the field, coupled with his ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and understandable manner, greatly contributed to my understanding of my condition and the treatment options available. What truly stood out to me was Dustin’s genuine dedication to his patients’ well-being. He showed a true commitment to helping me achieve optimal mental health. He took the time to understand my unique needs and tailor treatment plans accordingly. His approach was holistic, considering not only my symptoms but also the underlying factors contributing to my mental health. Furthermore, Dustin’s accessibility and responsiveness were remarkable. He promptly addressed any questions or concerns I had outside of our appointments, providing reassurance and guidance when needed. This level of support greatly contributed to my overall progress and demonstrated his unwavering commitment to his patients’ care. In conclusion, Nurse Practitioner Dustin is an exceptional psychiatric professional who provides outstanding care. His timely appointments, friendly and accommodating nature, and genuine concern for his patients make him a standout practitioner. I am incredibly grateful for the support and expertise he has provided throughout my treatment journey. I highly recommend Dustin to anyone seeking compassionate, knowledgeable, and comprehensive psychiatric services.

I really love my NP that I'd been seeing, Edward Neve. He's so sweet and helpful. But because of this office being awfully disorganized I'm going to have to go somewhere else. I've had multiple months where my prescriptions have been delayed and they refuse to call the pharmacy to figure it out. I've gone about two weeks now without my antidepressant that I've been on for years and they are no help at all. And of course this isn't ideal because, well, people who go here REALLY need consistency with meds. Obviously. Anyway, please avoid this place at all costs.

Honestly not enjoying my experience here at all. My prescribing provider PA Marjorie David is very unprofessional and lacks compasión. Twice now she sends my antidepressants without refills even though she said she will send them with refills. I had a crazy mental episode because I wasn’t able to get a hold of her or the office for a few days resulting in me missing my medicine for about 7 days. This just happened again this passed week and I strongly urge you find treatment elsewhere. I’ve had better therapists as well. Sorry

An absolute disgrace of a medical practice. Extremely difficult to make appointments, office people are actively rude and unhelpful and display an astonishing lack of compassion for people seeking help. Greedy billing practices designed to milk as much money out of you as possible. Do yourself a favor - find a different doctor.

This is the best psychiatric I've ever been to and I've been to many. Dr. Singh is incredible and I have recommended him and this practice to people who move to New York and are looking for practitioners. I have no idea why the reviews are so bad, these people are wrong.

I've been seeing Dr. Von Holten for almost two years without any issues. He listens, he's thorough, he makes sure I understand the ins and outs of any medication. Plus, the telemedicine aspect has been a game-changer in allowing me to be more productive with my time. Finally, the Dr has been amazing about recommendations outside of medicine to quash my sleep issues for good. So, yes, recommended very much.

Not sure why there are so many negative reviews. I have had zero issues with the practice and providers themselves. Dustin Von Holten is awesome, on time, funny and kind. If you’re interested in working with this practice, I’d recommend 10/10. Just make sure they take your insurance.

The worst psychiatric office. Do not use their service. They waste your time continuously. Their administrative team is completely incompetent. This review is solely for them since I never got to meet with any doctors. You have to wait 25+ min to speak to a clerk even if it says you are the next person in line. I got an appointment for 1 pm on a Thursday. When you book your appointment, they tell you that you must fill out two rounds of information via email. The first must be approved before they send you the second link. I finished the first round within the time frame they asked me to. After a full day of no response, I call and wait an additional 30 min to speak to someone to ask why I did not get an email for the next step. Without checking my account, the clerk blames me and tells me that I did not complete the information. I inform her that my screen says that it is processed. She checks and It turns out they forgot to check and confirm my information. The clerk then tells me that she will get someone on it right away. I don't receive another email until the morning of my appointment. In this email, they also changed my appointment time to 515 pm without checking in with me. I rearrange my entire day to accommodate this new time that no one confirmed with me. I fill out the second round of information and submit it. 20 min before my appointment, I realize I haven't been sent a link for my Telehealth appointment. I call again and wait the full 20 min before someone picks up and says they don't have time to check my info in time for me to make the appointment. Every step of this experience has felt like neglect so far. I can't imagine that it is only their administrative team that is this incompetent.

The Psychiatric Group has been fantastic. I have worked with Dustin Von Holten for meds and regular treatment for a while now, and he is always incredibly helpful and easy to work with. The office staff responds to emails and requests rapidly, and the other staff I have worked with have been pleasant, helpful, and understanding of individual needs.

I’ve had an amazing experience with Dr. Van Holten. He is an intuitive, efficient professional who does things by the book and shows genuine concern over his patients and their well being. An added bonus is that he works with children and their families outside of this office. Five stars 👍

I have been a patient here for almost 2 years. Yes there is a sometimes a long wait in office but I did not have issue with that. My issue has come up recently. I called to schedule an appointment only to be told the doctor was no longer with the practice since last week. No call, no email, no letter to inform me that they would no longer be there. I have had other doctors leave practices and have always received word of it in advance so plans for future care can be made. The receptionist was nice enough to schedule me for another doctor that week. When I received the email to confirm my appointment it stated I had to pay $75, that was never the case for me in the past. I called back and was told the doctor I was scheduled with did not take my insurance, so I requested to be scheduled with one who did. I was scheduled for a doctors who took my coverage. Received the new email and the charge is still $75 for lack of insurance coverage. Would love to give an outcome for this but currently I have been on hold with this office for 5 hours. This is unacceptable for any office, much less an office dealing with patients there for mental health care. Avoid this place at all costs.

The clinic emailed me large amounts of paperwork on a Friday afternoon saying it all had to be completed by Sunday morning or my appointment that week would be canceled. Despite being out of town I did it all, only to have them cancel my appointment on Monday for the following day. Once they saw my med list from my physical health issues they claimed they couldn't work with me as I need a "higher level of care" but refused to define what they meant by that or where else to seek a provider. I have been working with regular psychiatrists for years and have never been told this. They are apparently too lazy to do their jobs and bother looking up possible med interactions. Don't waste your time and energy on this clinic like I did.

I can echo all of the other 1-star reviews that have been added. I've been with DMPG for over two years now, and if it wasn't so difficult to find another psychiatrist, I'd have left them ages ago. The office staff is rude, incompetent, and completely indifferent to doing a decent job. The amount of times I've called and waited on HOLD for 45 minutes or more is ridiculous. They are clearly understaffed, and even the staff they do have is nowhere up to par. Combine that with them overscheduling their doctors, and you have patients who need regular refills on their prescriptions, but can't do so without speaking with the doctor. 9 times out of 10 you're left without the prescription you need in a timely manner. I really hope they read these and do something about these issues.

The receptionist forced me to go into the office. When I got there, they did not even inform security about me. I had to call the office and wait on the phone for over half an hour to talk to someone to get approval to enter the building. Once I got to the doctor, he said I didn't even need to come into the office for the type of treatment I am getting. What a waste of time! This place adds to my stress. Unbelievable!

If ever there was a pill mill, this place is it. I had horrible experiences here - the older Russian lady (think Stalin’s housekeeper) was rude and extremely unprofessional. Her boss (think Stalin) was even worse - I thought I was at the pill mill featured in CLAWS. I can’t believe the cops haven’t shut this place down - total money launderers IMHO.

If I can leave no stars I would, when you call they incompetent, but I got an appointment for it to be cancelled the morning of, literally 10 min before my supposed session. Horrible to the community who needs services.
