This is a difficult review to write. At first the bar seemed very nice, the bartender was attentive and the drinks were good. They were unwilling to accommodate reasonable substitutions to the menu, but I can understand that. However, one of the employees changed the whole experience. A female member of staff accidentally assaulted a member of our party, but rather than apologize she decided to kick the party out of the restaurant. We tried to deescalate the situation, but they were extremely rigid.

i’d heard from an esteemed brooklynite that the commodore was famous for its fried chicken, so that’s what i came for. i ordered their fried chicken platter (which came with buttered biscuits) and added a side of mac n cheese. i don’t think i’ve ever tasted fried chicken so divine. i was blown away by how they managed to get the skin so incredibly crispy/crunchy while keeping the meat hot, juicy, and tender. the chicken was also perfectly seasoned and every bite was a satisfying combination of texture and taste. the mac n cheese was also very well made but the chicken was really the star of the dinner. i highly recommend trying! (i still dream about eating this chicken)

We went pretty late, but luckily were able to find a booth to sit and eat at. It’s an order at the bar and the server comes to your table type spot. The medium spiced chicken sandwich was really good and filling. The burger was good as well, but their fried chicken is what they’re known for. If you’re thinking about sides, definitely get the Mac and cheese and the sautéed kale was also really tasty.

Dive bar with a killer fried chicken plate. The nachos player is also very good. The drinks are meh. There is an outside patio open during the warmer months. The bartenders are cool. Know what you want before ordering do you don't black the bar. Been coming here for a while now and will always return for the fried chicken it's that good.

Been here twice in two days. The fried chicken is to die for (some of the massivest sandwiches I’ve ever seen) and oh so good. Drinks range from ok to meh (though they do have really cheap $3 beer) so unless you liek really sweet sugary cocktails stick to the fried chicken which, once again, was beyond amazing.

The veggie burger tacos are amazing, I get these every time I visit Brooklyn and they never disappoint! All the staff are always very friendly, and it's got a really cool atmosphere and decor. There is not a huge choice of beer but the cocktails are first class.

This place holds a special place in my heart. I’ve been a regular for the last 10 years. I’ve had many fried chicken sandwiches from all over the country, this by far is in the top 3 if not the best fried chicken sandwich I’ve ever had. The only negative aspect is how the neighborhood has changed in the last ten years, but that’s expected with such a vibrant part of Williamsburg. The old regulars now pack this place out on the weekends with their newborns and toddlers, and newcomers to the neighborhood who don’t know how to act/order accordingly, end up making it far less enjoyable these days.however, nothing, and I mean NOTHING will come in the way of me and my beloved Hot Breast. LONG LIVE THE COMMODORE.

The fried chicken is absolutely as good as they say it is. Cheeseburger, hot breast sandwich, and nachos, all divine. Best burger in town. Laid back and chill, with a good selection of cheap beers. Can't wait to go back!

We were walking and stumbled, walking inside to a retro laid back bar. The first thing that caught my vibes is the reggae playing with the retro arcade and almost like you inside an old ship vibes. Once we were at the bar, the beautiful bartender asked what we wanted, but I could tell she wasn't too keen on me and homegirl but whatever. We ordered the Pina colada!!! Also, the Fried Chicken Plate w honey biscuits & sauces The mac n cheese and the black eye peas stew (need some salt & pepper). The fried chicken is a star itself....the crunch, BABY!!!! Juicy fried goodness. I'm definitely coming back. Nah, dip that chicken in the sauces. The hot and hot hot sauces are really good with it. The mac was IIGHT not my favorite. Definitely coming back for that fried chicken and Pina Colada cause it was hitting good.

The Commodore is one of my all time favorite places to get brunch in Brooklyn. We’ve been many times and have had several things on the menu. It’s a bit of a no-frills kind of place where the bartender lovingly ignores you, and there is no wait staff. You order at the bar and take a number to your table for the food to be delivered. Despite the divey-atmosphere, their food is unexpectedly good. Their Chicken Biscuit has a honey glaze that’s a perfect complement to the crispy fried chicken. I haven’t had a chicken biscuit that compares, and I now live in Charleston, SC. We’ve also had their nachos, and their kale salad which were really great. I also love their emphasis on frozen beach drinks. I end up drinking at least one Piña Colada every time I visit. Overall, The Commodore is a great place to meet with friends and have a few drinks and some good food. Nice relaxed atmosphere (no brunch lines), killer food, great drinks — You really can’t ask for more in Brooklyn.

The people were nice and the biscuits with honey were amazing. Bartender was nice too. The only problem is that I came to try their fried chicken and it was too much batter. I will leave a picture if everything that was batter. It was kind of ridiculous. If they could make that chicken with 1/5 of the batter I think it would be much better. It has an alright taste but it just kept breaking and making a mess everywhere. I kind of want to go again but I also don’t want to be disappointed again.

We came here on a Sunday night around peak dinner time and were able to get a table. It’s self seating and you’ll have to order at the bar but service is quick and the food is even better. The fried chicken plate is a gem. Definitely some of the best fried chicken you can get in NYC. The last time we had it was almost a half a decade ago and it was still as amazing as the first time. Perfectly fried and all meat, barely any bone which was surprising and highly appreciated. The tuna melt was also fantastic, mixed with both red and white onion. The kale Caesar was slightly on the salty side but made a refreshing break between the fried chicken. Fries are fries, portion was huge. We spent about $70 dollars including tip for everything. Great place with even greater food! Would recommend.

I've never before left a negative review online, even after plenty of poor dining experiences. Every restaurant has their off-nights, after all. But at Commodore... they consistently treat customers with apathy and a "we don't need your business" attitude, assuming their locally famed chicken and a good location will keep new customers rolling in, even if they don't return again. The volume of heavily negative reviews due to poor treatment from arrogant bar staff are not unwarranted or coincidental. I'm fine with staff being direct, at times in New York it's almost famed, something staff play up to as part of the dining experience. Not at Commodore - it's just inexplicable, legitimate arrogance. The food, while fine, is absolutely nowhere near good enough to justify the attitude that comes with it. The complacency is remarkable, and eventually I think it will cost them. And when it does, the 'too cool to be here' bartenders will move on elsewhere without a care, and the owners might be left regretting never addressing a single one of the negative reviews you could read (notice no replies to anyone, either positive or negative), or making the slightest attempt to improve. The money must be too good for now to make the effort.. but it never, ever lasts. My advice to others in the neighborhood, or anyone visiting: take your money to any of the other much more deserving local businesses that won't treat you with total contempt. I regret giving this place multiple chances, and more fool me for doing so.

What a pleasant surprise! Kind of dark and dive bar-vibe when you walk in, so you wouldn’t expect much food wise. We ordered the kale ceasar salad (good), the friend chicken platter (great), and the shrimp po’ boy sandwich (downright excellent). Highly recommend!

The Commodore was great. We didn't end up getting chicken, but got some nice drinks and split some fries on their back patio. We were spaced out well from other tables and it was covered patio area so it wasn't too loud! Great cocktail options!

Proportionate amounts of delicious goodness if I may say, and the lovely server I think Adelpho was the name, was beyond amazing!!!

This food was outrageously good. Apple sauce with a bit of honey is a very inventive and delicious dipping sauce. Wow. Excellent biscuits as well. The kitchen stays open late and delivered a high quality spread even at 1 am!

I loved my chicken club, it came out hot and steaming! Same with the fried chicken. On the other hand, the drinks were just ok. The piña colada was good and reminded me of the beach but the frozen margarita and vodka cooler were a little flat on flavor. The backyard was a little crowded for my preference toward the end of the meal; if you’re looking to avoid a crowd then go earlier.

Only rating food. Fried chicken biscuit 4/5. Almost dry. Biscuits was great. The sweet but spicy hot sauce was great. Would not reorder this. I Would rather get 3 Popeyes chicken sandwiches for the same price.

Not a bad spot, was sorely disappointed when the bartender/ manager didn't remember how to make a tequila sunrise, and instead of asking, ( he had buddies at the bar he was continuously conversing with) or looking it up... he just winged it, and no, it wasn't good. At least he honest, my dude...I would've asked for a Margarita instead. That just killed it for me.

Good nachos and fried chicken sandwiches. Bar gets kind of crowded so can be a little tough during busy times to order food but if you’re a little patient this is a good spot

The best fried chicken I’ve ever had! So crispy on the outside and the inside is so tender and hot. The biscuit was really good too. Love the outdoor seating in the back!

We love it here! They treat us like fam every time! The Rumpuch is so good! The chicken sandwich with fries and queso sauce to die for!!!

The fried chicken delivers. Crispy outside, juicy inside and a balanced level of spice which added the perfect kick. The coleslaw as a condiment added a sweet freshness as well. One of the best fried chicken sandwiches I’ve ever had. Fries slapped, beer was cold and the art and seating layout were lovely. It’s a scene to be seen and enjoy an S-Tier sando.

I've been coming here for many years. I love the chill vibe after work. It's my secret soup place, but I also love the chicken sandwich, nachos, wedge salad. Drinks are depends on who makes them lol. Don't expect to have a chit chat with the bartenders, they are either busy or not friendly, I STILL LOVE IT!

Excellent chicken biscuit. Order at the bar, seat yourself. Casual dining in the day, mostly people drinking later evening

This reminded me of “never judge a book by its cover”. I ordered the hot chicken sandwich with small fries. At first I was starting to get upset without tasting the sandwich. It looked cold and no made with love but it tasted AMAZING. The chicken didn’t look fresh and wasn’t too crispy and wasn’t hot but still was amazing with the coleslaw, the fries were hot and salty. It’s very dark, loud and artistic in there. I’ll be back.

Food 3/5 Ordered the chicken biscuit. Chicken was well fried and seasoned but the biscuits are a bit tough and dry. For $13, i feel it is somewhat on the pricier spectrum as its only a single piece of fried white meat sandwich with one single biscuit. Drinks 5/5 Great drinks, large selection of cocktails Ambiance 4/5 Very brooklyn kind of bar. Both outdoor and indoor dining available. First come first serve basis for outdoor. Service 4/5 Service is a bit slow but they were also really packed and full. Staff were really friendly and patient. A negative feedback was we asked for water and 2 of the cups was dirty. A card is held to keep the tab open over the duration of the meal. Everyone was wearing a mask

Great drinks. I had the rum punch 👊 yesss it did indeed hit. Queso and chips nice snack. It was a recommendation since our table wasn't ready at The Anselmo across the street. Love the atmosphere and music, which took me back in time. Very chill and relaxing with old-school games so bring your quarters. I recommend this place definitely going to try the chicken wings and fries next time, they look good

Hands down the best fried chicken sandwich I've ever had! Ordered the medium breast instead of hot... not really spicy but sure packed with flavor, and the pickles tasted like I was back home in my mom's kitchen! Well worth the $17 price tag; a must try IMO.
