We visit NYC yearly and make it a point to try a new KBBQ place in Korea Town each time, and I have yet to leave a review for any of them, until now! New Wonjo is probably our favorite so far… for portions, price point, quality, service, and compared to other K Town places New Wonjo is definitely unbeatable. We got one of the combos that included some of the BEST grilled pork belly I’ve ever had. My husband doesn’t even typically like pork and he couldn’t stop eating it when we went! On our last trip, we ended up going back 2 nights in a row lol the 3rd night we tried another spot only to regret not going back to New Wonjo for the third night lol also love that they are open until 5 am for the nights we get in late!!!

Yesterday, my husband and I enjoyed sul lung tang and hae Jang guk soup here, so we revisited this morning to eat soy sauce marinated crab and nak gob sae bibimbap. I ate soy sauce marinated crab with a bad fishy smell and a little mushy crab, but it was a bit expensive because it was Saturday, so I ate it all.. However, my husband and I started having diarrhea in less than 30 minutes and had to stay in the hotel all day long without traveling. I think soy sauce marinated crab is a food to be careful about, and I think if it's not fresh, you guys can couldn't sell it with conscience.

Two stars for the attentive service. I was disappointed in the selection of bonchon and the beef tofu stew. The stew only had a few pieces of beef and worst thing was the broth tasted bland. It didn’t even come with an egg. Overall below average food for a high price.

Authentic Korean Barbecue cooked over charcoal. The service was excellent. We enjoyed the combination meal with ribeye, short ribs, and spicy pork. The sides are delicious. We also enjoyed the fried dumplings as an appetizer. The spicy soft tofu stew was also great.

Wonjo can serve 8 of us on Friday night. I tried several restaurants around the area and none can do that. We ordered the premium set of bbq. The good thing I like is they cook for us. I usually overcook my streak when I m doing the bbq by myself. I like the pork belly and the rib eyes the most. They give us extra side dishes when we request and veg wrapping too. Service is good. This is my third time back.

Lost their Michelin recommendation for good reason. Not recommended. Sul rung tang. Soft mushy noodles way over cooked without any bounce. Beef over cooked and dry. No salt came out until requested. No side of fresh green onions. No red pepper paste that accompanies this dish. Rice. Dry. Bo Sam. Good. The pork was well prepared and tasty along with the shrimp sauce and lettuce piece. Recommended.

Atmosphere and Setting New Wonjo, nestled in the heart of Koreatown near Midtown Manhattan, offers an atmosphere that encapsulates the essence of Korean barbecue as depicted in Korean movies. The interior, complete with a barbecue grill and a smoke-suction tube descending from the ceiling, creates an authentic and vibrant dining environment. This familiar setting, combined with the lively ambiance, makes for a delightful dining experience reminiscent of scenes straight out of Seoul. One of the best if not the best Korean BBQ place I have visited. Service is top notch and super friendly and the food quality is superb. No wonder it was under Michelin radar I believe few years ago.

Overall an enjoyable experience for KBBQ, or other kind of meals, especially if you need to go somewhere quick and last minute. Having charcoal grill at the table was definitely an interesting experience. Food was good and staff was decent and accommodating.

I absolutely love this place! I love almost all its food especially the grilled fish. I visited this restaurant many times and never got bored with it because they would serve you different side dishes everytime you visit. Good price, good taste, good atmosphere, good service. Not too crowded like some other restaurants around the Korean Town so you can still enjoy some quietness in the always busy Manhattan. 100% I will come back again next time I visit New York. Thank you!

Had dinner here for thanksgiving. It was very packed with long wait times even with a reservation. The restaurant gets super crowded, people had to wait on the staircase as there was no space in the waiting area near the door. The staff was going up/down the stairs with drinks and dishes. We had a party of 6 but they could only fit us split between two tables. I was looking forward to the food but many of the non spicy dishes were bland, especially the chicken fried rice and the steamed egg. My family said that this was one of the worst Korean bbq experiences they’ve had, especially for the price. The meat was decent but I was expecting more from the other dishes. They gave us complimentary orange slices after our meal. Thank you for working/being open on a holiday (service was good after being seated), but I wouldn’t want to come here again.

Came here with some friends who have frequented this location before. It was super packed and a slight wait even with a reservation on a Saturday night. They have clean bathrooms available on the first floor. Staff were very quick to service and food came out with minimal wait. We all ordered bimimbap and it was delicious. We had the tofu, the bulgogi, and the spicy pork. The banchan was also good which included pickled radish, beansprouts, broccoli, some sort of fried dough, kimchi, pickled leafy vegetable, and fried fish skins. Plenty of water available in pitchers given to each table. Highly recommend as my partner reports consistent high quality throughout the years of coming here.

Me and my friends had such a fantastic experience at New Wonjo! The service here is on another level. The Korean barbecue comes with plenty banchan sides, all which can be refilled for free. My favorites were the kimchi and the steamed egg. No need to worry about cooking your own meat, they will do it for you. Super great for big groups! Such a fun experience. I recommend the pork belly, it was delicious.

UPDATE: Returned on a Wednesday night in February, and the place was packed alongside our 7pm reservation. Still definitely needed. The food was delicious and Marvin's service was excellent. Meats were done perfectly, and the myriad flavors did not disappoint. ORIGINAL POST: This was our first time having Korean BBQ and it was awesome! Saturday night on a holiday weekend, we were smart to make advanced reservations. Still waited about 15 minutes for our table. One of the few places that would take a res for fewer than 6 people. Once seated we noticed most of the patrons were Asian, which along with the reviews made us feel as though we'd made a really good choice. And we did! The food was incredible, and we were well coached by our servers in the best way to enjoy it, being newbies. We ordered the super-duper beef BBQ for four plus Kimchee soup and an order of steamed dumplings, and ended up with way more food than we could eat, all with a bill of less than $300, tip included. The flavors were nothing less than stunning, and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. Will definitely return - what a great experience!

I’ve been at Wonjo many years ago and love the 24/7 service. The Korean BBQ is the best especially since they are using charcoal-fulled table grills. Side dishes change regularly and it’s always a great surprise what you get. I love the side dish refill service and not even too mention how delicious the food is. Thumps up! 👍🏽

Korean BBQ on a super hot summer day is a must at New Wonjo. It’s an amazement to watch real wood charcoal grilling your favorite meats while the AC is blasting! Friendly staffs carefully grill the meats and place them on a separate dish over lettuce to keep it more juicy.

Wonjo is a busy and popular kbbq restaurant in the heart of ktown. With only a 20 minute wait for a party of 5 on a Friday evening, this already put it higher on rankings for kbbq in NYC. We ordered the Wonjo Combo, Spicy squid udon, Spicy cold noodle with soup, and fresh raw crab. The food was tasty and rich, but the portions were smaller than advertised, Service by staff was also good; however, we did feel pressured to finish faster given that some staff members were always looking over our should at the table. We understand that they are only looking to see if we need any new plates and whatnot, but we felt the rush regardless. Overall, a good spot to go for a quick kbbq meal in ktown.

A good BBQ experience. It’s a rainy day so we decided to go for KBBQ. We were lucky to wait just 5 min to be seated on a busy Friday night. The side dishes were plentiful, and the pickled cabbage was our favorite. We choose combo 1, which is the only one with pork belly. The meat quality was good, though I don’t like the beef tongue (which was slightly not fresh plus it got over cooked). All the meat was cooked well-done by the staff. I guess if you specify that you wait medium they can adjust it? I was not a fan of their homemade sauce and prefer to pair the meat with sweet&sour scallion, which is a side dish. The tofu soup included in the combo was really tiny(like it in a small personal bowl with only one mushroom that sliced into 4 pieces and that’s it). The taste was fine, very standard. There’s no rice or any carbs come with the combo, so we ordered the seafood pancake. It was soooo delicious, flavorful and full of seafood. Definitely recommend it. Note that the overall portion was small. So order more than what’s indicated works better. Good service and nice food. Would come again when craving for KBBQ nearby.

New Wonjo was my first stop once I decided to explore Korean dishes and I loved it. Still do. Went back today after a long while and ughh I missed it. Haven't had korean side dishes in a while and was glad to try a new one at NW today, pickled wild sesame leaves. It was quite strong, as in salty and intense at first taste but I kept going back for more. It added flavor to the 부대 찌개 🍲 (dudae jiggae) I ordered. I went in there thinking, "I'm not too hungry so something simple and small is all I need" but I left after emptying every dish on my table, an extra bowl of rice and a bottle of flavored soju and a teacup of cinnamon tea (to help my tipsy self)😅. The food aside the service is as I recall, awesome. You will find someone at your side as soon as you try getting someone's attention, or they will approach you to make sure everything is OK. Ps: They other empty dishes are absent because they cleared the table as soon as they were empty and I reassured them I didn't need anymore for fear of exploding.

This place was recommended by my best friend(who is Korean) & it did not disappoint. The service was on point & friendly even when we asked so many questions. The Korean BBQ was delicious. The squid stew was amazing. We also had an egg dish and another soup I can't remember the name. Everything was excellent. [Yet, be for warned it's on the second floor. I use a cane & stairs are an issue for me. It was a birthday celebration for my nephew and we found out it was on the 2nd floor when we arrived.]

This is literally the best Korean food in midtown nyc! You get free unlimited side dishes plus a dessert drink after your meal. Still can’t get over how good the food tasted & the service is excellent! Will definitely come back:)

We love beef and Korean food. So why not have both. Ordered the beef special. Had the most delicious marbled beef grilled. The sizzling sound would make your mouth watering. From the side dished to the drinks. They took good care of us. Will be back for sure

Great food, good side dishes and great service. The waiter practically was cooking the food for us the whole time, refilling side dishes and water without a word said. Didn’t even expect that service

We came here for BBQ and we were seated at 5th floor. We had marinated beef plater which come with small intestines and chess corn. I Also order spicy octopus. We couldn’t finish all. But my wife didn’t feel well after the dinner. Maybe the food wasn’t that good for her. Serve is good

One of my favorite places in NYC - I always stay in Koreatown and this is a must while meeting up with a group, but you can definitely eat great a-la-carte for only two. I don’t eat red meat so I gotta have chicken or fish available, and they usually do, love the spicy chicken. Their soups are absolutely incredible and I feel overlooked - spicy soft tofu and mushroom soup - amazing broth. Great kimchi fried rice. I’ve also had the fried veggie dumplings and they’re really good. Generous portions on side dishes and egg especially. I love everyone here, they’re extremely busy and a little impatient but ultimately really helpful and so professional - this place is run like a well-oiled machine. I guess I’ve never been here in the summer till last night because I’m loving the watermelon brought to tables as a goodbye when you ask for the check.

I recently dined at Wonjo Barbecue and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. The lack of air ventilation on the second floor made it difficult to breathe, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere. The service was disappointing as well, with the waitress appearing rushed. Despite politely requesting twice for them not to cook more meat until we had finished the previous batch, our requests were disregarded. This led to overcooked, burnt meat, with the insides remaining rare due to the high flames used for cooking. Overall, the combination of poor ventilation and inattentive service significantly impacted the enjoyment of our meal, leaving us with a less-than-pleasant dining experience at Wonjo Barbecue.

First time going to this place and I am very impressed! Truly very authentic, a huge menu, and delicious food. My lunch meals came with free banchan (side dishes) and a free croaker. The croaker and kimchi were my favorites. My specific lunch set also came with seafood soon tofu, which was delicious. There was so much food for two people! The portions are very big, it took so long to finish the food but was overall very happy and satisfied. They also refilled our water very fast, and the staff was friendly. They even gave complimentary tea in the end, overall very pleased with my experience.

My friend and I decided to hit this spot since we have never gone before. I order spicy squid rice, New chicken large size and makkuli. We loved the food. If there's one thing to improve then it would be the coner seats. It's better to decorate some there.

We have been to this restaurant before and we are delighted to be able to visit again. For us the best restaurant on Korea Street with super friendly and warm service. The food is excellent and you can try a variety of appetizers. There was also free tea and water and a specialty of the kitchen on top. We felt very comfortable and are already looking forward to the next time. Greetings from Austria/Europe

We had dinner here and it was a lovely dining experience. The staff was extremely kind and the food was incredible. The highlights were the subdubu jiggae, nakji bulgogi bokum (octopus and beef) and the Chick Bibim Nang Myun (cold noodles). Highly recommend a visit here.
