Oh man we finally got to eat inside! Such a great meal. Usually we get food to go but it was a treat to finally have time to grab a table here. Service was pretty good. Everyone checked in on us regularly. Food was phenomenal. I wasn’t super prepared (zero research ahead of time, we always just get soup dumplings so I didn’t know what people loved here) but a quick google review search and I had some options. We weren’t disappointed. We got the spring rolls, soup dumplings, chicken lo mein, crispy beef (which was like deep fried slices of beef served in a semi sweet sauce- amazing), and Shanghai thick noodle (comes with pork, which the waiter told us but it’s not listed on the menu). Every single thing was amazing and the prices were great. Quick warning- we were a party of 4 and 18% gratuity was added without any heads up. It’s fine but we almost tipped double. Definitely make this a priority in Chinatown!

LOVE. First time here and I can't believe I haven't been here more often. We were worried that since there were no reservations there would be a wait but we went 5:30pm on a Wednesday and got in immediately. Others were waiting in line when we left though. MUST TRY: soup dumplings (we had the pork) and the scallion pancakes to start. Amazing. I could go there and just eat soup dumplings. Then we got a variety of noodles and fried rice. The portions were pretty big depending on the dish - some larger than others. We took leftovers to go. Delicious - go there. Lots of variety, quick service, so good. Cash only!

This has been my favorite meal of New York. We had a wait for our table of 6, but it was worth it. Everything was served family style. The General Tso's Chicken was some of the best I've ever eaten. We also tried each soup dumpling. The pork soup dumpling was my favorite. The crispy pan fried noodle was something I've never had, but it was so flavorful. Food came really quickly. I can't wait to get back!

Always has been my favourite soup dumpling place, since the first time I tried it when they were still in their older location. Every time I come it’s still the same old flavour I had that first time. Best soup dumpling I ever had! To celebrate it, I decided to come here for my last meal in the US.

Loved the dining in experience in terms of attentiveness and interior. The pork and crab soup dumplings were really good and packed with soup. We had some other main dishes but they were quite average/1-dimensional in taste since it was basically tossed in sweet & sour chili sauce 🤷🏻‍♀️.

The wait time when we came wasn’t too busy and our party of 6 sat down once everyone arrived. The restaurant is very tight with plenty of tables/seats. The atmosphere as very loud and busy. The soup dumpling was alright. There was a lot of batter and the soup didn’t have much flavor. The crispy beef and chicken tasted the same. The duck was a bit bony and dry. The bun would tasted a lot better with it than the crepe/pancake. The duck sauce was a bit too salty and the soy sauce was sour from too much vinegar. Overall, it was an alright experience.

Definitely worth the wait. Cash only. Don’t expect great service. But the food was definitely on point. Everything was full of flavor and cooked perfectly. The soup dumplings are a must. The seafood noodles had the perfect ration of salty to saucy. Every bite into the soup dumplings packed a punch. Overall good experience.

Blown away. Really, truly, this place was exceptional in every way. We got there as they were opening and we're amazed to see just how quickly the tables filled up shortly after. Quick service, generous portions, and unbelievable food. The braised pork belly with preserves vegetables was exactly what we needed on a chilly day around the holidays. The crab and pork soup dumplings were rich in a way that I can't describe.. savory, salty, rich, just amazing. We shared the Shanghai rice and jellyfish as well. Can't recommend them highly enough.

The food is delicious! One of the best and more authentic in the city. The soup dumplings are a must-try, sipping the broth then eating the meat is a journey in themselves. We also ordered the Sesame Beef and eggplant (kind of sweet), both very good. *Waiting Time*: We wait about 30 minutes, get the ticket inside. The wait is worth it for the food quality. *Service*: Good and efficient. Don't expect over-the-top friendliness, but you will be well taken care of. *Price*: About $30 per person. Remember, it's cash only! *Location & ambiance*: Close to the heart of Chinatown, adding to the authenticity of the dining experience. The ambiance is clean and straightforward. It lacks distinctive coziness or style but focuses on what's important: the dining experience. In summary, Joe's Shanghai offers an excellent dining experience with its top-notch food. The service is efficient, the ambiance clean, and the prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. The authentic Chinatown location and the overall value make the wait worthwhile. It's a reliable choice for a delicious meal.

Really good soup dumplings! The pork and crab ones were delectable, the pork ones were good too but the broth was a little too cloudy for my liking. The crispy duck was kind of dry but had good flavor. As I see many other people noted, this restaurant is Cash Only! It doesn’t make sense seeing as they are one of the most renowned spots in the area, but then it does make sense when you think about how they most likely own the ATM right in front of the restaurant, so they pocket the extra fees from having people have to withdraw cash right at the end of their meal 😅. Good soup dumplings though. I wish they did have a larger drink selection.

Joe’s is a great place for Chinese food anytime but it was especially nice on a Sunday noon with family and friends! We enjoyed a variety of dishes. The service is very good, fast, attentive and professional. If you get a chance, visit Joe’s at 46 Bowery, New York City!!!

Had dinner here with my friend and his wife. Extremely pleasant experience. We all loved the xiaolong bao. We also ordered the Peaking duck, sweet and sour shrimp, hot and sour soup, and mapo tofu. My only gripe was we had to assemble our own duck pancakes. Everything else was amazing.

The dumplings were very flavorful and at the perfect temperature 🤩. I loved how satisfying and filling the chicken fried noodles were. Lastly, the tofu itself is very tender, but packs a lot of meat flavor, the sauce is so rich 👌. Overall a great experience 💯

Friend, the food was soo good. The Singapore Chow Mei Fun was delicious. It had the perfect amount of curry to make a Caribbean girl smile. 😜 This was my first time having dumplings and I fairly enjoyed them but, I do recommend that you use a spoon as the soup will run down your chin. The service was really slow and my friend and I had to ask for our server on a couple of occasions. But, if you are looking for good Asian food in New York this is where I would send you!

Delicious meal! Luckily we arrived a bit before the crowd and got a table almost right away. Service was quick but attentive. Food is tasty and hefty portion; making it a good value. Recommend to come early or right at noon because when we leave at 1pm, the line/wait was extremely long. Other note is this restaurant is cash only and tip (18%) is automatically included as part of your meal.

We got spicy fish which was really good… really spicy, definitely cleared out my sinuses, but I loved it! We also got scallion pancake, which was good but more oily than I’m used to. My partner got the soup dumplings which they said was alright, not the most amazing they’ve ever had. The green beans were my favorite thing that I’ve had. We also tried the thick seafood noodles which didn’t taste like anything at all, so bland. For desert we got the fried buns with condensed milk, honestly could’ve skipped it. If you’re coming with a party, be prepared to wait outside for an hour. There was only 2 of us so we didn’t have to wait at all, luckily. It was loud and cramped in there. Seems to be a very popular touristy place, really focused on group dining and communal plates so if that’s family style eating isn’t for you, this is not the place for you. Because it was only 2 of us, we ended up spending a lot of money on several dishes that were meant to be shared by multiple people. We spent $125 in total and tip was included Would I come back? No but I liked the experience that I had there.

I had lunch with friends. We had the pork soup dumplings and the fried pork dumplings!!! The steamed pork soup dumplings were very satisfying and reasonably priced for a serving of 8 dumplings!! The only minor inconvenience is that Joe's is a cash only eatery!! Service was very attentive!!

Biggest xiao long bao I've ever seen. Tastes pretty good too. Crab flavor is strong with lots of soup. Braised beef soup is okay however the noodles are the highlight of the dish. Scallion pancakes are okay as well. It's on the thicker side rather than crispy. The dipping sauce is nice. Don't forget cash only!

Joe's Shanghai is an absolute gem! I had the pleasure of trying their soup dumplings, and I must say they were simply outstanding. Not only were they big, but each dumpling was bursting with mouthwatering flavors that left me craving for more. The restaurant itself had a wonderful ambiance, and the staff was friendly and attentive. If you're a fan of soup dumplings or looking to try them for the first time, Joe's Shanghai is a must-visit destination. Highly recommended for an authentic and delicious taste of Chinatown's culinary delights!

Certainly the soup dumpling specialist. I loved their pork soup dumplings. The TSO chicken was one the best i ever had in the town. The place has a long wait so plan accordingly. I waited for 80min on a saturday evening.

Still the best soup dumplings (小笼汤包) I've ever had in the States. Deep flavors and rich soup, and strong enough wrappers to not break early. The shredded turnip shortcake was also great. There's usually a wait but it's well worth it, though be prepared — like many Chinatown places, it's cash only.

Delicious crab soup dumplings, the soup is very flavourful and fragrant! They were served nice and hot, in the bamboo steamer with a lid on top to keep the dumpling hot and helped prevented the dumpling skin from drying out. The place looks to be recently renovated since it looked much better than the older pics of the place. The decor is very modern. I would definitely return for more crab soup dumplings the next time I'm in New York!

THE best soup dumplings EVER. I moved from NYC 3 years and every time I go back I have to stop by Joe's Shanghai and get (2) orders of the soup dumplings and the crispy noodles. Always consistent, always delicious. The broth is perfection, packed with all the flavors. It never disappoints.

Pork soup dumplings, Peking duck, whole fried fish, pork with celery and tofu stir-fry, all delicious! A week later, I ordered takeout and highly recommend the spicy fish in chili oil, sliced beef, lion’s head meatballs, and the red bean cakes!

Only got take out that we ate in a hallway nearby, but even in that setting these soup dumplings were incredible!! Hot, perfect texture, and absolutely full of flavor. If there’s a long wait for dining in definitely consider ordering take out instead (it’s much faster) and eating your dishes elsewhere. Really tasty spot!

Wow wow wow. This is best Chinese food every. First you start with some pork dumplings then get some scallion pancakes. After that the best dish that is so good is the crispy shredded beef (like candy). You can also get a side of fried rice that goes really well. AT-rater

Some of the best authentic Chinese I’ve had hands down. It’s a cash only business so plan ahead. No reservations, so be prepared to wait as this place does get crowded. They have a large menu with tons of options. Everything I had tasted great, definitely would recommend the boiled dumplings and Singapore mei fun. The proportions are huge so you definitely don’t have to worry about leaving hungry. The prices are also very reasonable. Definitely will be back around to explore more of the menu.

WE ORDERED THE “WHOLE PECKING DUCK” AND IT WAS LITERALLY JUST SKIN. THE BEST PART OF THE MEAT WERE TAKEN OUT AND THERE WAS BARELY ANYTHING EXCEPT SKIN AND SOME MEAT! NOT WORTH EATING HERE! POOR SERVICE AS WELL. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE THAT DOESN’T TRY TO SCAM YOU FOR YOUR MEAL. VERY SHADY AND NOT GOOD FOOD!

The main thing that is worth coming here is the soup dumplings. Everything else here you can get somewhere else, but the soup dumplings are really incredible. The skin is slightly chewy but very thin, and the soup is hot and flavorful. The meat inside contains very little fat and there’s a decent piece of it. I also had the shrimp soup which was good but not remarkable. The service is good as well but overall not worth it considering the hour waitlist (got there at 5 and started eating around 6:15).

LOVED IT!!! Joe’s Soup Dumplings are TO DIE FOR!!!! The savory pancakes were also amazing. It takes a while to be seated, but once you are, food comes really fast. Everthing was absolutely delicious and I will definitely be coming back!! *Only takes cash* MUST TRY!!

4 stars on pork soup dumplings and 1 star for service. Hot, rich, and tasty. Also, barely any ice for the water and we sat down for about ten minutes before anyone came to take our order. Also got the string bean with minced pork which was tasty, good crunch and char with good flavor.

We came as an early birthday dinner for me... absolutely loved everything we ate. Great soup dumplings & delicious pork bun crispy & pork lo mein tasted amazing the scallion pancakes we had 4 orders. My 4 yr old ate those like crazy plus the beef dumplings. I would 100% eat here again. Service was fine & it was not crowded inside. I wish we had a spot like this in GA by me...im a born & raised Jersey girl & I miss the food the most.

Highly recommended restaurant if you want to try authentic Chinese cuisine when you visit Chinatown, a little reminder that they only accept cash but if you need a ATM, there is one at the entrance.

This place has been renovated! No more communal tables but the dumplings still taste the same! The soup dumplings are must to try here. They are the best! Very soupy inside and pack with flavor! The Chinese food are good too but this is probably a go to for soup dumplings!

If you’re looking for a place to eat at Chinatown, this may be one of the best options. The place is spacious and has many waitress to serve you fast. Food is good and tasteful!

The best food around. It gets busy in the middle of the afternoon. Be prepared for a wait! They do not do reservations. Also it is a CASH ONLY establishment. Come prepared. Their soup dumplings are out of this world. A must have! Their scallion pancakes were also delicious. Wonton soup was plentiful and very flavorful, lots of wontons included. For entrees…General Tso & Orange Beef was the best I’ve ever had. The chicken fried rice was so fresh and flavorful. I love this place for pickup. This was the first time dining in, and the food is even better freshly hot out of the kitchen. Highly recommended
