Total humiliation. Very rude owner, very rude behavior. I drove 6 hours after work from NJ to get in before midnight and was late exactly by 2 minutes. I had called them 3 times to let them know my situation and paid for the worker who would let me in by midnight. In the end I had to pay the full booking fee, extra fee for the worker who would check me in, but they did not check me in. I understand maintaining time table is essential for businesses, but what is point of being a human where you cannot show a little respect to others. It wasn't like I was slacking, my schedule was tight and even I drove with greater risk for 6 hours without rest just to get there in time. The most shocking thing is I communicated my situation with them well ahead, still they behaved very inhuman. I despise the experience. Edits: It is funny how the owner/(who ever responded below) lies. I am not sure if he/she has pulled the record or remembered/involved in any of these. This happened in 2016 July. I did not care to write a review because I was late (by 2 minutes) after a life risking 6 hours drive from NJ, still it was my fault, I could not make it by midnight. But after two years it came to my realization the property owner/manager were very inhumane not to check me in for being 2 minutes late as I communicated from one day ahead of time. I remember every bit of it because I suffered. Well, I wish all the best for your business. Looking after staffs is definitely a good thing. I wish you be nice with the workers. There should have been a staff as it was arranged way ahead of my check in and paid for (and this was according to the policy). The booking record (pictures) clearly says the special request check in time [0-1], this was made during booking (one day ahead). The check-in denial and cancellation record says 12:10 AM. We had a phone call well before this 12:10 AM time mark, and I requested the property to check me in. The property denied me and then closed the bill which is 12:10 AM. Very inhumane !!

The owner is racist. Definitely do not stay here if you are Indian. The house is old and when there was an issue he said "These things only happen when people from certain cultures show up" among other rude things. He also had an unpredictable temperament. Don't recommend spoiling your stay in a beautiful place by staying in a place like this. If you are white, think about what you are supporting staying in a place like this. There are plenty of accommodation options in the falls which are central.

The owner made me wildly uncomfortable by asking me to leave the hostel with him to go for a “walk” in a nearby forest and to go out for drinks with him and his friends. He also has a vote for Trump/Pence sticker in his window. Need I say more? Your business is not the place to be flaunting you backwards political views. I also heard complaints of people feeling unwelcome because of racist remarks but this makes sense given the previously mentioned political statement in the lobby. Another complaint is that there are no privacy curtains in the shared rooms and there are no towels or anything provided. Overall, a clean place but I cannot move past the behaviour of the owner. If you are a single female or not white do not stay here. The owner also has a tendency to tell people to look elsewhere for reviews but that is only because he gets all of the bad review deleted by saying that people didn’t follow his ridiculous policies. Either this, or he will lie and say you’ve never stayed there.

Honestly, I wish I had read the reviews before booking. Lesson learned. They give you no notice on the email that there's a fee to check in after their specified hours and I was charged extra $10 upon arrival at 10:30pm because it was "after hours". The host acted like he was doing me a favour by letting me in. Given the awful reviews I've just seen, the condenscending behaviour was already an improvement. But really, I'm an experienced backpacker, have stayed in much smaller hostels in much more remote areas and have never seen hosts act like it's so much of a hassle to receive people after hours. Guess what, that's part of the job of running a hostel! At the moment I was so exhausted from running around town all day I just paid the fee and said nothing, but I wouldn't stay there again. The bed was also pretty squeaky and I was concerned about waking up my bunkmate. The two stars were because the place was indeed clean and close to the river, but definitely not thanks to their unreasonable policies. At the very least, make it CLEAR in the confirmation that there is a fee for check in outside the specified hours because nobody would ever predict that.

Highly recommend Gorge View hostel. Unbeatable for the price, comfort, and location - it's directly on the gorge, with trails for the Niagara River Falls, Devil's hole, and all the attractions along the Niagara river. Host is attentive, and the place is unbelievable clean. Full kitchen available (again unbelievably clean). The beds are comfortable, with all linen provided (and NOT the cheap scratchy type) and blankets. I am an older female on a fixed income, traveled from Richmond VA to attend a funeral. Without this hostel I would not have been able to afford to make this trip. Also i did not feel uncomfortable due to my age. I truly appreciate and much gratitude for my stay here.

I would like to give a "-100" score if I could. I paid $90.40 not for lodging but saw the ugliest personal show of the property owner: Jeff. This place has a maverick check-in policy between 3pm and 7pm. I was delayed by traffic and my cell battery was dead. When I got to Gorge View, I saw an emergent number posted on the front door for assistance after 7pm. I called the number but NO ONE ANSWERED! The next day I met Jeff. He insisted that I had all responsibilities and he must charge the full lodging fee based on his policy. When I asked his policy included the assistant number after 7pm but it did not work. He lost his control. He used the most insulting words to verbal attack me "Fxxking person", "Fxxk off", "Fxxk you". I was stunned to see his rudeness. Jeff was barking at me like a beast! I have visited 7 countries and 33 States and checked in over 500 hotels, but I have NEVER seen such a distorted and ill-mannered soul in my life. Jeff also scolded:"GET OUT OFF MY PROPERTY!" Is Gorge View a hotel or your private house? Jeff wants to make money but does now want to work long hours and still suppose Gorge View as his private property. Jeff was taking money from me but he still verbal attacked me. I lost $90.40 to Jeff but he lost his dignity. I saw the most horrible performance of a barbarian. Jeff. I WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOU! NEVER!

The owner of this hostel is just awful. Never have I experienced such rudeness and arrogance from anyone at any hostel or hotel in my life. Talk about customer service...and he wants people to give him their money!? Please don't give your money to this man. Save it for somewhere that treats its guests respectfully and actually CARES about their experience. After reading other reviews, this seems to be a common experience from staying here. Please just go elsewhere

The owner is a freak. He is nice when he is in a good mood. But if you do something he thinks wrong, he will treat you as if you were his slave and he was your master. I had enough during my 2-day stay honestly.

I have had the worst experience in Gorge view hostel, rude owner and he’s always drunk, using abusive language towards customers. I don’t recommend this place. There was not even hand wash liquid in the bathroom and there is no one at the lobby to ask. Luckily when we find the owner , he uses abusive language and asks customers to get out of his place etc and abuses. Please stay from the crazy owner and place.

Cancelled prior to checking in due to rude service over the phone when trying to arrange late check in after missing my train due to unforeseen circumstances. The rudeness caught me by surprise because usually small hostels have the best staff. I understand that it states to arrange late check in further in advance but there is no reason to be rude when trying to work out a solution.

Hey Google please the options to give zero star to such hostels. My stay at hostel left me feeling extremely unsatisfied. One expects to encounter professional and courteous staff at a hotel, especially from the reception or management. Sadly, this was not the case here. The behavior I witnessed was not only inappropriate but also left a lasting negative impression. I would seriously never think again to stay here even if it’s free of cost and I hope potential guests weigh their options carefully.

I would give zero starts. This place has bed bugs. It’s a old apartment covered to hotel. With my 2 months old I carried bed bugs to my apt and imagine how hard to prepare the apt for bug Elimination with 2 months old baby. On top of it after pest control done in my apt I got to stay out in hotel for 2 or more days cos I have baby. Totally ****up just one mistake and lost complete peace.

All Asian guests assigned to one miserable room with strong odor, even air spray can’t help. Requests to change the room was first orally permitted and then quickly declined by the host. We intended to order another bed online to switch to another room, but the host quickly put away all rooms for ordering online or on site that day. Only got one thin blanket on bed. Can be cold at night. Can’t help but have to throw money away. BTW that’s a 148 year old wooden house. Consider this only if this is your last choice.

Worst hostel I ever stayed... Owner or manager is a racist person.. He hates black people and Indian peoples.. Treat them badly and also not allowing them to use storage post checkout... However for white people he is totally different.. Didn't have manners to talk to his guest.. He is putting americans on shame only..

Location: The place is located on one of the reviving streets of Niagara Falls, NY. Although there is nothing substantially aesthetic about the location, I would say it is located in a reasonably safe neighborhood. The bus stop is a short walk. The aquarium is quite close to the property. The Niagara falls state park is at a walkable distance too. Rooms: I stayed in a shared room. The bed was well kept, the locker was clean. There was an issue with the bathroom door which had to be lifted up to latch. The bathroom otherwise was clean. Do carry your own toiletries as there is not much in their inventory. Staff: The property manager was informative and helpful with regards to the activities. The maintenance staff was courteous. Food: They have a dining hall but no food on premises. They have a small kitchen with essential cutlery and crockery. The place is ideal lone travellers.

Brilliant value for money. There are spacious rooms, en-suite bathrooms, comfortable beds and pillows and coffee in the morning. The hosts are very warm and friendly and took time to show me how to get around the area. A lot of attention goes into the experience of the guests and with that price the proximity to the falls is amazing.

My friends and I stayed here for our last night of our roadtrip. We couldn't have ask for more. Our stay was quite lovely and from all the camping and motels we've been at before, this was the best night's sleep. I've never been in a hostel before and the owner was kind to explain. It's not too far from the falls at all either. Owner was very kind and a pretty cool guy. Definitely plan on coming back

My friend and I stayed for several nights during the summer. The place was clean and nice and the people were very friendly. It's within walking distance to the falls and some main attractions. During the day (and night) we could hear the sound from the waterfalls. It was amazing! Will definitely be back one day.

Location was great in that all the falls attractions were within walking distance. It also had a parking lot. For is, we wanted a clean comfortable space to hang our hats after a long day of hiking, and this was it! Our room had a queen bed and two sets of bunk beds and a pull out sofa - tons of sleep space. Rooms were warm and comfy. Huge shared kitchen on first floor. WiFi was excellent. Best part was NO TV so we played a few of the many board games available to borrow. The owner took time to visit with us and share his pics of the resident bald eagle flying over the river. Recommend! My fav thing - the seals at the aquarium across the street. We shall return!

We left Mississippi on a 1 hr planned rd trip wound up here we had never stayed at a hostel before but loved it the owner was a genuine guy. It was very clean the nostalgia of it being so old but fitting in perfect to the natural surrounding of niagara you can walk or drive either way it's perfectly located highly suggest.

When we pulled up to this, we was really surprised at how close it is. It is literally right across the street from the aquarium. The park is a quick two minute drive. You could not ask to be any closer. The price was really reasonable. I booked a queen room with bunk beds and boy was I surprised by the room. I felt like we had our own little apartment. The rooms were huge. The worst part about this place was if you are the first person to take a shower I’m the morning or the hot water is not being used much throughout the day, it did take forever for the water to get hot, at least five minutes. The common kitchen and dining area had all the necessities to cook and eat. The toaster doesn’t work very well, but that’s only because we like to toast both sides of our bread at a time and not just one. The host was super helpful about places to eat or hidden gems must sees. He definitely knows what’s what. Bottom line, I would highly recommend staying here no matter what your budget is.

After spending a week at this hostel I'm going to recommend it to everyone that comes through Niagara Falls. It's awesome to have an option to stay a night for ~$40 in a community room. It's in a great location, across the street from the aquarium and awesome views of the gorge and Canada. The owner worked the front desk and was very pleasant and knowledgeable.

The location of this hostel really is ideal. The owner gave some great tips for enjoying the area. There are some little things that would have made my stay more enjoyable. Paper towels in the dorm room bathroom would have been nice. Also, I wouldn't have known I could get a towel from the front desk if I hadn't messaged beforehand and asked. The beds could also use some updating as they are noisy/squeaky and the mattress not the most comfortable.

I stayed at Gorge View this summer and found it a positive experience. I was very unhappy with my accommodation in Pittsburgh and rang to book an extra night. I explained to the owner that my bus wouldn’t get me in til gone midnight, and whilst it is against policy and inconvenienced him, he allowed this and waited up to let me in. I found him to be friendly, accommodating and informative throughout my stay. The room was clean and comfortable - although a little cold! I think this was probably as unfortunately I was there for 3 uncommonly cold days in August - when presumably the heating is very much off! It is a small hostel, so it wasn’t the most social, and costs are kept low by not providing any kind of toiletries. It could also probably benefit from a little updating, but the owner knew this and said it was on the agenda for the quieter season. These are the only reason I went 4 stars, not 5. However, it was very clean and felt safe. The location is great - very close to public transport and the falls. I would recommend.

Good and clean place to visit the Niagara Falls. It's just 10 minutes of walking till the Niagara falls. Owner is running this place on his own. He was quite nice and handed me a map with some details. Was able to leave my luggage in the room till lunch time.

The owner was very kind and courteous. Gave me a lot of good suggestions of where to go before a blizzard hit, trapping both me and one other. He checked up on us and even brought lasagna since it was so difficult going out. Extremely kind owner and wonderful stay.

TERRIBLE!!! LOST 1,300 dollars since I had to cancel due to I honestly didn't feel safe staying there. No communication When I reached out before our 7 hr drive the guy who answered and had been texting with me occasionally was SO RUDE!! He immediately caught an attitude when I asked him a question Starting raising his voice over the phone. I then decided if we were going to stay for a whole week somewhere we weren't welcome why even bother. I reached out to our company since this was a business meeting ( investors) that i was going to book somewhere else and we would loss money since this situation. They will be filling a complaint.

I do not recommend at all this place and above all the receptionist guy. He was dishonest arrogant by phone and without no reason cancelled our booking 30 minutes before check-in. We confirm the other bad comments, they are totaly true. Employeurs, if someone write on his cv, worked at the reception of the gorge view hostel, just be aware about his consideration of customers. PS. Hey dude, if you do not like people just change your job. It s the 21 century, we can do many things, try many jobs. For sure you ll be happier. Good luck man!

I enjoyed my stay here and I would recommend it to others. It is very affordable and the hostel is walking distance to the falls. The Amtrak train station is about 1 mile from the hostel. There is a nice nature trail that takes you there. When I arrived, the owner provided a lot of helpful information about Niagara Falls and his recommendations. He made change, and provided detergent for laundry. In the room, there was a washroom, plenty of sinks and 2 large lockers. It also had AC. Separately, there is a kitchen with anything you'd need to prepare a meal. I thought the owner was very responsive through email. I planned on arriving on a certain date, but had to cancel my reservation because my train was canceled. The owner was quick to cancel the reservation and there were no issues. When I rebooked at a later time, I contacted him to arrange a late check-in. Again, no issues. There was a small fee associated with the late check-in, which is to be expected, as he is the only person operating the hostel and cannot be available 24 hrs.

Gorge View is expertly managed and maintained by its charismatic owner and enthusiastic employees. Everyone is so friendly, helpful and welcoming. My friend and I shared a dorm with four other guests for three nights. We took advantage of the newly added kitchen which is well equipped with high quality appliances and plenty of cooking supplies and dishes. We joined the owner and other guests on the roof for the fireworks display. We spoke with an employee for a long time about the history of the beautiful building. Everything was always clean and organized and I felt welcomed and appreciated the whole time I was there. If I get the opportunity to visit Niagara Falls again, I will stay at Gorge View again!!!

This is a great hostel within walking distance to most of the attractions. The trolley, bus and shuttle are all within a 5 minute walk. I originally only booked a room for one night, not expecting to have much to see aside from the falls, but I ended up staying from Friday to Monday and still hope to come back to do more of the trails and sightseeing. There is a lot to do and the Gorge view is in a very comfortable location; close to anything one might need. There is a bus a free bus called "Discovery Bus" which takes passengers as far out as the old fort and to some small towns and other attractions in between. This bus picks up by the aquarium (directly across the street form the Gorge view). I almost neglected going on the Gorge trail (also across the street from the Gorge) I am so happy that I decided to do this trail. It is only about a mile long, but has much to offer.

I booked this place according to location and value. And I didn’t come to Niagara Falls to spend time in a hotel/motel/hostel. When I checked in, I had some doubts- at first I thought the building was old and a bit stale. This is why I gave it 5 stars: At check in I got a map and a detailed tutorial on the park and the location of everything there, and how to get there. It was a short walk to the Discovery Center where I could catch a trolley to the park (Niagara Falls state park). My room was totally renovated. The bed was very comfortable, the pillows and bedding were good quality. Although no tv, I had WiFi, microwave, mini fridge. Nice shower with very hot water and good quality towels. I slept very well for the 2 nights there. I knew it was a hostel- you bring your own food, coffee, wash cloths, lap top. But you can’t beat it for value and location.

Great place to stay. This was our first stay in a hostel. Wasn't sure what to expect, but would definitely recommend it now. Felt very home-y. It's an old building that has been renovated into a hostel, so the vintage feel of the building was nice. Spacious rooms, great service, friendly staff. Gorge view is great if you are looking for a clean and affordable stay close to Niagara falls. I stayed with my family for one night. The beds were very comfortable. Thanks to Jeff, the landlord, for giving us a good idea of how long it takes to see the different points of interest. We were able to finish sight-seeing in one afternoon/evening. The kitchen was very clean and fully equipped. I highly recommend this place.

The owner is very helpful and welcoming. The space is updated, clean, and overall comfortable. The bed was comfortable, air conditioning worked well in the summer, bathroom very nice and clean. It's right next to a bridge to the falls, which is super convenient. The only thing to watch out for is that it's right next to a sketchy area, so stick to the touristy parts.

Really nice place to stay while on vacation. It has a small kitchen to cook. The honor was really nice. The price was awesome. I will surely come back again.

It's a nice value for money place to stay. They have a fully stocked kitchen, so if you really wanna save more money you can purchase ingredients, store them in the fridge and cook them. There's ample parking besides the establishment. The rooms were comfortable. Just check if they have air conditioning if you are visiting in summer. Our room didn't but it was fine as this was during early fall and the weather was pleasant. The room did have heating. The floors do seem to move a little while walking since the lockers made a bit of noise. There were 16 lockers in our room which could accommodate 6 people. The layouts of the rooms are different so do check that The bathroom in our accomodation was a little small, but it had everything you need. A shower closet, a toilet and sink. There was an extra sink outside with some extra space to keep big bags if needed. The beds were bunk beds in our room. A negative point is that they squeaked a LOT. You can't get up to pee in the night without waking others, or turn in your bed without waking the person below you. The doors were in need of a little love and care. I almost got locked into the bathroom because the mechanical lock go stuck temporarily. I advise you to ONLY use the latches in the bathrooms. The hall lights were motion triggered so that's good for the environment. The entrance door has a number lock which the owner will share with you when you check in. The owner/operator is an interesting fellow with a quirky sense of humour, which adds to the Charm. When asked which attraction you wanna see first the correct answer is the cave of the winds.
