Beware of 3 month contracts, unless you cancel the day you join you have to give 90 days notice! I joined 3 month ago and surprisingly haven't really used it. When joining I was told its a three month contract that can be cancelled anytime after the initial 3 months were up. I rang up to do this and was told I had to do it via their website which tells me I have to wait 90 days to cancel. Presumably this is because the VG are aware they will have many unhappy punters speaking to their staff. Perfect timing from the VG who rang whilst I was typing this. The lady was very apologetic and said this should have been explained when joining. It wasn't, I was told after the initial 3 month were up I could leave anytime. Subsequently told I have to pay for the next 3 month, end of. In response to Terrys reply the terms and conditions were most certainly not explained to me when joining, if they were I wouldn't have joined in the first place. Great example of a business profiteering from a lost cause - He's decided to leave lets take him for what we can one last time!

I had to give 1 star in fact would like to give none if there was an option. We received a text which meant to be for ex members who been offer £30 a month for 12 months and £300 vouchers book if they join back. And after receiving this message my workout buddy went to speak staff at the village hoping they can offer him some sorts of agreement since he is paying £50 a month but very disappointed with the response as they never seems understand his situation and asked to leave termination letter so they can cancel his membership which made me feel if they can't value their long term customers then why would we need to obliged or give business. Hospitality meant to be looking after their loyal customers but village seems to have no value or respect for their loyal customers.

A member asked me to go along for a swim using a guest pass. The lady at the reception desk was sullen & disinterested but signed me in. The pool was quite small and apparently gets very busy. I used the hot tub and a gent reliably informed us not to bother with the sauna as it was cold. 🤷🏻 The lifeguard looked miserable & just sat there checking her watch looking like she hated being there. Not keen on the showers. Hang your towel on the door and it gets wet. Nowhere to place your shampoo etc. Limited changing rooms. Not sure the monthly fee is worth it for me but I'm sure it is if you use the gym etc 3 times a week. I didn't use the equipment in the gym but looked as if there was plenty to go around. I would return for another swim but I won't be joining.

It is with regret that I have to withdraw my previous review and write an entirely different one based on my experience in terms of customer service - I took out a premium membership with the view I could cancel at a month's notice (the reason I opted for this was solely based on being in recovery from illness) which I explained at the point of taking out this membership - I thought it was reassuring to know I wasn't locked into anything - anyway my health deteriorated further and after only a month's membership I was unable to go back - I thought I'd hold onto it though in the event I got better ... So I paid a few months membership despite not being able to use it .. I then emailed HO to ask to cancel - I was told I had to email a person at the gym directly to do this ...which I did last September - it's literally Feb in 2 days and I've continued to pay a total sum of pretty much £400 to the village for a membership I had asked to cancel several times over ..and they'll be taking payment again at the start of next month ... Not great.

Made use of the gym just after a short break was thoroughly impressed and well equipped for a hotel gym. I mainly used the strength area pictured below and had a quite look at the main fitness suite didn't get a chance to use it. But from what I saw had everything you need.

If you just want to try out a gym to see if it’s for you I would suggest Waves in Whitley Bay, tried the three month trial stayed for four stopped my direct debit I am now been threatened with legal action although I have not been back for. Over a month I have called the number supplied with the threatening text but no reply texted back for them to call me and no response. they want 30 days notice etc, should have read the small print but nasty taste in mouth now, lesson learned don’t go to the village wasn’t anything to write home about

Really good gym and great staff! but the cleanliness of the changing rooms is shocking! The black mould on the ceiling and dirty floor is the only reason it's not 5*!

Nice big pool which is split for swimming and kids fun area. Also has a sauna, jacuzzi and steam room. Lots of options for gym training including weights rooms, cardio areas (treadmills and bikes). Gym gets busy as it's open to locals and hotel residents.

Management at the gym is very poor. I signed up for 3 months. They use a third party company for contacts/memberships. Tried cancelling membership numerous times. The gym say call third party, and third part say call gym. Sure this is to complicate and maximise profits. The woman who deal with contracts at the gym has poor customer facing skills and seems petty and does not follow up on verbal agreements regarding cancelling memberships. I will not use this gym in the future.

Friendly, encouraging, positive gym. This is the longest I've ever been an active member of a gym. The classes are fabulous, instructors are so friendly, approachable and engaging. Yes it's quite expensive but you get to gym, do classes and swim! Great atmosphere. Really surprised that I am not only tolerating exercising but borderline enjoying it 😂

EXTREMELY HURT, ANGRY AND DISAPPOINTED I’d first like to say that the staff at Cobalt Business Park Village Gym have been nothing but understanding and have tried to help with my problem.... My issue is with their head office who have had no empathy to what has been a very stressful time for me. Not once has a member of their team tried to call me and get an understanding of me as an individual. Very quick to take my money but extremely slow in trying to help me with a problem that should have been so easy to resolve. Asking for document evidence ( which I provided promptly) of my situation...they made me feel like some kind of criminal! Of course as they took their time to resolve my problem, they were still getting their money from my bank account whilst I was unable to get any use out of their gym due to unforeseen circumstances. EXTREMELY HURT, ANGRY AND DISAPPOINTED

The definition of a commercial gym, each and every member is treated as a number rather then a person, when I used to go here it was a very negative place where I didn’t feel welcome, at first I was happy paying the extra, above average gym prices as it has the pool, sauna, steam room etc but unfortunately every other time I was there they were out of order or needing maintenance whilst also being incredibly overcrowded at all times night and day, similar to many other reviewers I also was not aware of the “90 day notice” clause and was never informed of this meaning I was paying for 3 months frustratingly after I’d left, please do not join, it’s not worth it!

Came for a day pass visit to the Gym & Pool. Modern & well kitted out: strength & conditioning room, gym room, burn room, spinning room, exercise class room. Liked the swimming pool, the sauna and steam rooms were Hot, jacuzzis also in swimming pool area. Burn room has the technogym storable benches. I had a nice cup of Latte afterwards at Starbucks in Reception. The place has other facilities such as bar, grill, function rooms

Service from this gym is abysmal. I've tried to submit a complaint based on a situation that has affected me getting to the gym. They don't want to know, I've been fobbed off with solutions which don't solve my problem. Management do not seem to want to take any care on the situation, instead providing excuses and telling me it's not their fault I can't access the gym. Refusing to accept a formal complaint. Legally, any organization needs to acknowledge any complaints raised and provide a satisfactory solution. I'm sure I'm not the only member affected by travel issues. There's no courtesy at all, gym staf don't seem to understand, they only care about money. Unacceptable.

I have just joined and I will update as I go but this review is specifically about the joining process... I joined because put quite simply I met a young lady at the gym called Beth... She didn't over sell anything and in fact she was just the nicest and warmest person I have met in ages... So I just wanted to say that I joined because I s a great place and I'm looking forward to getting fitter and healthier at the village gym.. But Beth was totally amazing and I appreciated my time getting showed round by her and she must be such an asset to the company... Keep up the good work Beth ...

Joined the gym on a student membership and wasn’t told that it was a 90 day rolling contract that you have to give 3 months notice on, but rather a 12 month contract as it is for everyone else. I joined June 2022, but didn’t cancel the DD until October 2023, so they were in fact, given a 3 month notice period. Today, I get a debt letter from a collection company saying that I owe them £112 and that if I don’t pay, they’re going to get solicitors involved. So let’s do that. SEE YOU IN COURT.

Exercise delivers oxygen and nutrients to your tissues and helps your cardiovascular system work more efficiently. And when your heart and lung health improve, you have more energy to tackle daily chores. What is not to like going to the Village Gym? You have it all... Swimming, Gym, Classes and as a treat Starbucks or the restaurant. Spot on!

Beware Draconian ridiculous contract. Despite being outside initial 12 month contract nigh impossible to cancel membership. App doesn't work , website sends you in circles. Eventually cancelled direct debit now being threatened by debt collection as needed to give 90 yes ninth days notice

Great gym and staff but I feel that the sauna, steam room, pool area need major updating and maintenance they are constantly closed which is pretty disappointing as this is the main reason I chose this gym over others in the area. Also the changing room drainage system need fixing in the family room as everytime I've been in there is smells of raw sewage. The staff are aware of all these issues but I feel that head office is to blame and the staff are being ignored.

Without a doubt a place to stay. Rooms. Beds quietness gym. Pool and breakfast. All amazing. Gutted on paying for towels when heading to pool when we can use our own but not advised.

The main attraction to join was the swimming pool but the gym has excellent equipment and all the staff are really friendly. It's pricier than other gyms but you get what you pay for and if you actually use the facilities it's really good value for money.

Well at first when I joined I was impressed. I’m on a 3 month contract (which I had cancelled straight away as I was told you have to give 90 days notice) I went most of the first month then I had to have an unplanned operation which left me not being able to go to the gym for over a month so far, I have one month left (till end of April). I was told you could terminate membership/contract for any medical reasons, so I called them to cancel because of my operation and they just said no ! Said it was too late to cancel (something about having to do so 10 days before payment goes out) which I was never informed about when signing up (but also HELLO I’ve had surgery) I’m young and unemployed now and cannot afford it but they don’t seem to care. As I said at beginning, it was fine all until I had to have an operation that stopped me from going. Really really disappointed.

The village gym is possibly the best gym I have ever had the pleasure of being a member of. The equipment is great and treadmills which run android and allow me to watch Netflix are certainly a good thing! There is always equipment available, a fantastic leisure pool with sauna, steam room and jacouzi as well as very friendly staff. Definitely a recommendation from me!

  • 2/5 Kate L. 1 year ago on Google
Gym itself has good enough facilities though the pool/sauna are in need of updating and aren't really big enough for the number of members. My main issue is that it was an almost impossible task to try and cancel my subscription when I needed to. I couldn't get into my online account, no one was answering the phone to support with this, I then finally got through to someone at the other end of the country, they couldn't cancel my subscription or sort out my access to my online account in order to do so. Turns out I had never been given an online account when I was set up with one, I still couldn't access it. It took me 3 days to speak to someone who could actually help which is very poor for a nationwide hotel chain. Can't help but think it is intentional to delay the start of the notice period.

Good gym, great atmosphere, way wayyy too crowded now. The gym has been renovated to a very good standard with a few designated rooms for classes, however after 5pm there are classes in the main gym too that takes up a lot of place and they prioritise people on classes than normal gym goers.. There has been several instances where people have been told to cut their workouts in half because they wanted to shut part of the main gym for the classes, we haver made several complaints about this but nothing has been Done yet. Other than that, this is a great gym, good equipment, great facilities including plunge pools, jacuzzis, steam rooms and a sauna. It's convenient that the spa is just around the corner too. Its ashame that the gym is making a massive effort to get more new people on, but does nothing to retain the existing ones. I would have given this gym a 5 star rating about a year and a half ago.

Be careful what time you go swimming as there a swimming lessons and aqua fit classes which mean there is very limited space.

For some reason they don’t want to tell you how much a membership is, I rang up about a year ago and they just asked for my number to ring me back which never happened. Thought I’d try again after wanting to get back into the gym and they said the same thing again, I said “I’m just wanting to know how much a membership is” and he still couldn’t help. Don’t know what the issue is there.
