The Playwright, formerly known as the Orange Tree near Trent University. I reckon it is more of a place where University staff and students go - due to its vicinity to campus. The interior is very much what you would imagine if you heard the words "English pub". The place is dog friendly and offers a good range of drinks and food and it is quite decent food at that too. I loved my Harissa Halloumi Kebab, it was delicious. The next time I go, I will try the quesadilla.

Great nice warm welcome service lovely nice staff friendly. clean and tidy toilets.nice atmosphere I think because the public house faces the NCT a lot of students go in there but it's still a nice place to have a drink all two. If you're into cocktails this public house is for you the playwright Shakespeare Street Nottingham 👌😁 happy hour, bingo, pizza, music.

Very relaxing & great food choice, centrally located near the town,Victoria Centre & Trent Uni. The vibe is great, spaced out, comfy seating...the music is chilled and there are open mic nights etc here. A fabulous haunt for the people who don't want an overly packed bar.

Booked the function rooms for my partner's 30th birthday and could not have been happier. Josh was so helpful and responsive when planning this party and organising the food, music and rooms. Leah and Fran were absolute stars serving the drinks and making sure the guests were looked after. Blown away by the food from Ashraf and Alex, cracking pizzas and wings! Thank you all for making the night so special and memorable. All the guests commented about how great this venue is and we will not hesitate to recommend to friends, family and beyond. You would be mad not to book here for a great party, can't thank the team enough!

We performed here as part of the Nottinham Improvised Comedy Smash night! Intimate venue with lovely atmosphere. Great pizzas to fuel us through our set!

Lovely bar, a bit chaotic for service of both food and drink. Great atmosphere, would be nice if the bar was bigger/more staff were on at busy times

Lovely pub close to NTU City Campus. Enjoy their 2 for 1 pizza deal. The pizzas are delicious and they do a yummy vegan margherita one too which I think is even better than the vegetarian one. Can be quite loud when busy, even if you're in a different room with the door closed.

Great place with friendly service. Went foe Sunday dinner a bit disappointed no vegan or vegetarian options available at the time. But staff were very helpful and sorted out an alternative.

Nice atmosphere, and some nice staff. Have been in for a Sunday roast twice now. The first time was decent for the price and we got all that you would expect. This time 3/4 of us were missing carrots, and all our other veg was very undercooked. Extremely crunchy broccoli and peas (didn't think peas were that hard to cook) Overall a nice place, although it is a bit on the expensive side

Had such a good afternoon with a friend. Delicious food, great cocktails (thank you Lana) and I also forgot to pick up my daughter's fave toy and staff kept it safe for me (thanks again Lana)! Highly recommend.

Great atmosphere, service and music - quiz is always a lot of fun and need to go more often. Special thanks to Holly for being kind when cleaning a glass we smashed.

I come here a few times so I decided I will bring my date here, we had a great time, pub decorations are really cool and the staff are the nicest of anywhere I’ve been, very helpful, I was served my drinks by Tanya and she was so lovely, had a great chat, our food was delicious too we had pizza and chicken wings and the chef Alex even came out herself to ask if we enjoyed it, which we did a lot! I think the best pizza in Notts, hopefully I will get a second date and bring her back here

What a gem! There are a few decent pubs in the centre but this is my new favourite! Staff very friendly and helpful, especially for new year's eve.... Good selection of gluten-free options for food too. Will be back!

An end of week drinks with work...linked to a relaxed Christmas party. Great space for a group to chat and a varied enough menu for us all. Enjoyed the beer and staff were very accommodating. Had the 3 for £15 tapas deal...great Dolcelatte salad, good replacement of kimchi cakes to retro tater-tots. Less keen on the tacos...a bit chewy but taste was fine. Fitted well what we needed for good chats and Christmas fun.

Visited here for the first time this weekend and will defiantly not be back. For starters there was no one in the pub which is never a good start on New Year’s Eve. We had booked a table for food to be told when we arrived one of the chefs had called in sick and we had only 10 mins to order, we were not informed of this prior to arriving. Then when we did order we were told no to most items that would have taken any time and could only order a simple pizza off the menu, no startersbrisket etc. The service was terrible with all our meals coming out at different times over the space of 45 minutes. The majority of the staff were rude and had no manners.

Gone here a few times and it's always a friendly vibe regardless of age. Got served by someone called Alex and they were so friendly. I will definitely be coming back here in the near future. (Should definitely give Alex a pay rise!)

We hosted a private charity event here and they were so accommodating and helpful. Josh and the team (Tanya and Lucy) were so lovely and the space felt so warm with a fantastic atmosphere. It's great to have different areas to work with. Huge bonus with it being wheelchair accessible. Fantastic place to host our Louisey Rider Cup after party. I hope it's here again next year!

The atmosphere here is wonderful- very cozy pub right across from Nottingham Trent University. On that basis alone it’s worth a visit. Although, not the best beer selection. I also used to love to go for their 2-4-1 pizza deal on Mondays, which was great value for money. However, lately it seems the quality of this has taken a dive. On my last visit, I ordered the ‘Margot’ and the cheese didn’t taste like mozzarella should. Perhaps worse than this, I’d asked for some red chili flakes for the pizza, a very common pizza topping that every other restaurant serving pizza provides in abundance for free. However, although they had some they refused to provide any because, bizarrely, they couldn’t find an option on the till to charge 50p for chili flakes. Charging for chili flakes on pizza is like charging for salt & pepper. So, unable to pay for them, I couldn’t get them complimentary either. Strangest and most disappointing pizza experience in recent memory.

Very chilled and relaxing boozer , good pizza, really nice cloudy IPA and good service. Nice to see the history of this pub and Nottingham Forest FC . Will visit again when in the City. We all enjoyed our time here .

Great service by a lovely young lady called Lana, very friendly and happy to help me out. We enjoyed the drinks and food very much! Therefore I would also like to give credit to the Chef Harry in regard to the quality and taste of our food, the pizzas were particularly delicious! We cant wait to come again!

Nice bar, great show, few minutes walk from several large secure car parks. Thoroughly enjoyed it and will be back.

The name of this place changes but the quality doesn’t. Been coming here for twenty years and it’s always a solid pub with a good atmosphere. And now they do amazing pizza. Their dough is legit!

Visited NYE. Pleasantly surprised with the funky decor, friendly staff, oven baked fresh pizza, prices for drinks and food excellent. Great mid week deals on food and drink. Non pretentious pub/bar with a nice relaxed vibe. Good to see a range of vegetarian and vegan food list. Will definitely return and recommend to friends.

Absolutely love this pub! Fantastic service, food is always tasty and reasonably priced! Not just for students either - would recommend

Lovely place. Very good price for the area. Food tastes really good. The pizza is fantastic (they have a pizza oven). Their pub quiz was so fun, I wish it was a little moreonitored as there was a lot of people cheating, and refusing to swap papers when it came to marking. But over all a good time!

Was there for a celebration of the life of Chris Richardson. 100 people and only 3 staff how did they do it? Delicious pizza including vegan which was especially good. Welcoming and staff so friendly. Loads of room too

Nice pub came for a couple of drinks, beautiful venue and great location. Staff were friendly. Can't really say more as we didn't try the food but will definitely come back again.

Nice comfortable pub which does lovely food and has a good range of drinks. Service has always been friendly when I've been in too.

A couple of minutes from the busy city centre bars, where you can get decent beer, somewhere to sit and chat in comfort. Also where Nottingham Forest were founded with a nice plaque on the outside.

I visited about a week ago, the place didn't look inviting at all. All the leaves were just everywhere outside the back garden. The lighting inside wasn't very bright. It needs remordenising and abit of tlc.

Excellent venue with live music, cocktails and good selection of other drinks. Be aware that close proximity to university means proportionally high numbers of students but doesn't detract from being as classy and well-loved as before the rebranding.

(Used to be The Orange Tree) Good little pub, is very popular with students in term time. Had a refurb and nice inside, friendly staff and good choice of beer. Deals for food on certain days and happy hour Sunday-Thursday.

👍👍 Absolutely amazing! I went to have lunch on my graduation day with my friends. Food was very flavourful and cocktails were nice. Special dietary options are available and you always get 2-4-1 cocktails. Service was really friendly and approachable. Ambience and music is just cherry on top.
