Amazing what royals will build when they’re advised by spiritual leaders? That’s pretty much the background of this huge complex. It’s really massive and reminds you Of a scene from tomb raider as you explore. Great views of the temple from raised mounds in the corners of the compound

My stay in Bagan included visits to a large number of temples, many of which are more than 800 years old. One such temple is Dhammayan Gyi. It dates back to the second half of the twelfth century. Situated in a field with unobstructed views, it is one of the larger and more impressive temples in the city. A walk around the outer walls of the temple netted me a number of impressive perspectives. The sheer size of the structure and the intricate brickwork set this temple apart. This is not a building that you will rush through. It requires and deserves your full attention. It got mine.

Impressive scale and setting. Throughout areas of Bagan, the trails can be occupied with shepards tending their roaming flocks. A rare moment captured with surreal sunlight slicing through the dust clouds as they advance forward.

One of the big temples of Bagan - must see. Big walls surround the temple, and gates from four sides. The temple itself is massive - and very well laid out in terms of concentric structures. On a sunny day you can have a nice view of the surrounding area - there are a couple of vantage points near the rear of the temple area for good photos.

This is the largest temple in Bagan and dominates the landscape with its imposing size. It was built in the late 12th century and remains incomplete. Even so, it is still an impressive spectacle to behold. Much of the interior is bricked up. It used to a popular sunrise and sunset fir tourists.

One of the beautiful but said to be the tallest of the archaeological set of Buddhist Pagoda in Bagan. The renovation work is in progress. The entire building of the Pagoda could be captured only on climbing an elevated mound at the Fringe of the complex.the best age can be obtained at the dawn when the Sun rays are not in higher degree !

The biggest temple in Bagan with interesting story. King Narathu built the temple for his sin of killing his father and brother. It is a picturesque place in Bagan and there is a puppet shop with many puppets hanging on the tree. It's also a good place to take pictures.

This pagoda is biger than you see Bigger than you think And very old very cool Would you watch the sun burn out with me here, here I saw a face in the sand But when I picked it up Then it vanished away from my hands, down I had a dream I was seven Climbing my way in a tree I saw a piece of heaven Waiting impatient for me, down And I was runnin' far away Would I run off the world someday? Nobody knows Nobody knows, and I was dancing in the rain I felt alive and I can't complain But now take me home Take me home where I belong I can't take it anymore

Dhammayangyi Temple (ဓမ္မရံကြီးဘုရား) is the largest temple in Bagan with the height of 77.7m that clearly visible from all Bagan city. The temple was built in 1170 in the reign of King Narathu (that had been said he became a king by assassinated his father Alaungsithu and his elder brother, presumably built the massive temple to atone a sins and avoid bad karma) The construction of Dhammayangyi Patho was built similarly to Ananda Temple and Egyptian pyramid, with a wide square single story, topped with six pyramidal terraces. The temple was not fully completed as the king himself was murdered by one of his wives ; the Indian princess The unmissable destination that will definitely worth your visit during Bagan Tour with the finest bricks work, the ground that was surrounded by a hugh arched gates, the unsolved mystery as some parts of the temple was built with unknown reason that still mysterious until these days such as the bricked up on temple’s inner part

Among all the temples in Bagan, this is the one I love the most. The building's blocks are thick, making it a fascinating place to visit. Historically, the king during that time wasn't viewed favorably. He is said to have killed his father and elder brother to ascend the throne.
