A lovely, two story facility delivering personalized environmental educational experiences for classes and families. Many exhibits allow interface with nature while also teaching. Science themed classes and events on a broad variery of subjects are also offered to the public. My father, a local science teacher, has taken his classes here many times. A pottery studio is also on site where nature themed clay pieces could be painted and fired. A delightful science afternoon!

This center is truly a treasure for West Virginia and the Panhandle! There is always something interesting, inviting, and incredible happening. You can learn about everything from life cycles to the local environment. You are able to see actual nature right before your eyes through their beautiful windows that showcase bird and squirrel feeders. You can stroll on their wildlife platform that juts into the forest and use their provided binoculars to see for miles! They have arts, crafts, classes, shows, and a small store with handcrafted items to purchase which supports local artisans and the center. This is a must experience place for everyone!

Fun and free stop within oglebay to learn about nature. Cute gift shop. There are often activities- the day we were there they had pottery painting and a scavenger hunt.

Great hands experience for younger kids and adults as well. Have many educational things dealing with birds and have some snakes in exhibits as well. My child loves the bird Windows they have that the birds come up to and eat the food that is put out and you can watch them. Has a cute little gift shop inside as well.

Nestled in Oglebay Park, near Wheeling WV is Schrader Environmental Center. If you're visiting Wheeling, staying at Wilson Lodge or spending a day in Oglebay Park, make a stop at Schrader! The nature exhibits are informative, with many of them interactive or geared toward children. The floor to ceiling windows let you look out on the woods, maybe spotting some wildlife. Just outside of the building are hiking trails that let you get closer to nature. In November and December, the center hosts a holiday craft sale, featuring local artisans. Pottery, woodworking, paintings and other crafts are featured.

Great learning experience for kids. From early toddler (my 22 month old granddaughter) to...well, I'm 62 and still learning! We appreciated the environmental things she could touch as well as toys and spaces to keep her occupied. Thanks!

Wonderful trails, they just need to expand them and finish connecting the yellow trail to the blue one to make a loop.

Our school group visited the Schrader Center. We had excellent lessons about many of the birds in our area. The children were interested and fully engaged during our entire visit. Their staff was pleasant, knowledgeable in this area, and wonderfully trained to work with children.
