This used to be my house. I used to live here for the longest time and I enjoyed living here. It was a touch small, but the location was great and I could park a car here. I want to move back and kick everybody else out of the building. I want my old house back.

The good: The area is cute and historic. Close to transit and lots of options for food and drinks around the area. 10 min ($12) Uber ride to union station. The outside of the building is beautiful. Lots of camera and secure entry so I felt relatively safe. The lady at the check in was nice and informative. The bed was comfortable. The bad: the description said it was “ground level” It was in fact in the basement. The renovations are poorly done. For example, Someone cut the laminate flooring around a piece of caulking instead of cutting the caulking. The window was small with bars on it. In case of a fire, I would potentially be trapped with no way out. The ugly: the cleanliness was terrible. I have pictures of old pieces of something on the floor. (Looks like food- but could be anything) there was strange black hair all over the place. The side table had some visible gunk on it (it could have been wiped down) The TV converter was covered in gunk too. There was some kind of splash marks (some liquid of some sort) splashed up the casing outside the bathroom. Oh, and there was a lighter and some garbage under the bed. See photos. I slept in my clothes.

Cute place, clean the shower was smaller than what they would have in a camper but over all it was not a bad choice in places to stay! I hope to return here sometime! Great location and they where filming a movie across the street so added cool points!

Had a good experience with my stay here and would stay again. Be advised that only the rooms on the bottom floor are pet friendly (though I think I heard dogs on the main floor?). I suggest you book directly with them because if you book through a third party, the info may not be accurate regarding pets. My room was small, which was fine. Biggest issues were lighting (just one very bright ceiling light and a tiny window with minimal light). A lamp would really help. There was a desk, but the folding chair supplied was quite flimsy and I developed a sore back after sitting for work for a longer spell. The mattresses seemed clean, but were not encased in a protector, which I would prefer. The bathroom was a nice size, and a variety of utensils and things were provided along with the fridge. The room was carpeted, which was an odd choice for a pet friendly room. I didn't quite feel comfortable walking on it barefoot, and there seemed to be some crumbs in one corner. (One imagines these small rooms are tricky to clean.) The parking is a good value, but can be difficult to access. Note that you cannot park directly on Gloucester Street overnight. There's a little park at the other end of the block that's great for dogs. Communication with the property was great during booking and check in. The location is fantastic, waking distance from great bars and restaurants, as well as the subway and streetcar lines.

We stayed in room #13 on the second floor. Big bed (two beds pushed together). The room is spacious and clean. It has a TV, fridge, coffee machine, and wifi. After 6:00pm, there is no reception. However, they sent us a clear and easy instruction on how to check in and get our room keys. The hotel is located near Church Street where you can find a lot of great restaurants and shops. Price is reasonable for a night. Will stay here next time!

I kept calling over several days trying to book. The people who answered the phone didn't know the availability or prices. They told me "call back tomorrow at this time." I called and was told to call back later in the day. I did and was told to call in 30 minutes. I did. They then told me to call back in an hour and I decided to book elsewhere. I don't want to book at a place where nobody seems to know what is going on and everything is unorganized. Why are people answering the phone if they don't have any information? Didn't seem very reliable. I'm visiting from out of town so I wanted a reliable place to stay. This seemed extremely fishy to me.

not good! Keep in mind, I had the best room in the "hotel", but should not be called a hotel. the front desk staff are not on premise and you have to call for service. The one staff had no knowledge of the area, had not heard of the eaton center or about the trains or subways. I asked about safety and she had no idea. the area itself is not very safe but I felt safe inside since there is a combo lock for first door, a key for second door and a second key for room. THERE IS NO TELEVISION. the owner has a note in the room that the TV is "sensitive" but in truth, it just does not work. I came back to hotel at 11:00 pm and just wanted to rest and watch some news. super annoying to deal with a non working tv and no staff on premises to help and to discover even if staff was there, the tv system simply does not work. it was on when I came in the room and could not be shut off at first! She then blamed me for hitting a wrong button. (that was most frustrating at the lie) Nope! the entire system does not work and they know it but choose not to fix it. very frustrating. the other issue was the "King bed" is two very lumpy twin beds pushed together and no fitted sheet on the bottom, so sheet moved everywhere to bare mattress. Most uncomfortable night. felt like those pull out thin beds but with thicker mattress. room is bare bones but does have microwave and fridge and was clean. bathroom has zero space just pedestal sink with tiny shower. The location is amazing near bloor and yonge.

Absolutely filthy (and I’m a college student so that’s saying a lot) when me and my friend checked into our the room on the first floor it had not been cleaned at ALL, there was still coffee stains on the desk from the person before us and some of their stuff (such as a jar of Vaseline) was still in the room!!! Yikes!!! When we went to the front desk and asked for it to be cleaned again the lady came into our room, barely wiped anything down and then left. Me and my friend were in utter disbelief at the level of negligence the staff had (especially during covid) but we didn’t have anywhere else to go so we decided to go down to the dollar store and pick up some Lysol wipes and gloves to disinfect the place ourselves (and we didn’t get anything taken off our bill!!!) I’m sure if u put a UV light in any of those rooms it would look like a Jackson pollock painting, overall it was a pretty safe area but I’d be lying if I said we werent completely grossed out and uncomfortable the entire rest of our stay. I’m not much of a review writing person so the fact I took the time to write this speaks volumes about the condition of this place. It’s absolutely unacceptable the sheer disregard the staff has for any form of sanitation or cleanliness. Avoid at all costs (unless u have a spare hazmat suit laying around of course, in that case this is the place for you!!!)

The quiet location was good and accessible to public transport. The room was spacious and decorated in character with being an historic building. Everything was clean and very basic. The late check in system was efficient and easy to follow. The staff were friendly and helpful. The electricity power plugs and cords need to be upgraded - a cord going across the floor at the bathroom door did not seem safe. The tea, coffee, creamer were in a haphazard pile in a bowl which was off putting. We had to request washing up and drying cloths for the kitchen sink.

Amazing location and good price. If you're someone who just needs a place to shower and sleep this is a great option. Very small room but had everything we needed. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Cons were that the mattress was hard as a rock, the bathroom fan was very loud and the doors to each wing of rooms did not have a slow close feature so when anyone would pass through them the door would slam super loudly. I hope they will install a slow close feature on those doors. Overall I was happy with my stay and will definitely come here again!

I stayed in a single room when I visited Toronto. It's a small place, but it's good enough to put up for the nights I was there. The staff were kind during my communications via email; although the lack of an on-site staff does make it a little harder to get support late at night. For the price, I would say it's a great place near the Royal Ontario Museum!

We had a very nice experience there! Check in and check out are really easy, also you can pay a supplement for a parking space which was super helpful. The place truly has a Victorian feel, I see some people criticize the rooms and say they're "old", not in a good way, but I disagree. People tend to romanticize Victorian style and this hotel truly gets its. Has AC which is great for warmer months and the bed was comfortable. The location is great too, you are less than 5 minutes away from a subway station! The neighborhood is super pretty as well. The few notes we had were the bathroom light being a tad noisy and that some spaces could have been more clean, besides that it was all good and we would definitely stay there again. Thank you Victoria's Mansion!

You get what you pay for - cheaper as less modern but in a great location. Set in a historic place so no lifts - a few stairs to get in. Lots of rules, small rooms, sporadically manned desk with a “phone that will immediately be picked up”. Hardworking housekeeping. Very warm, but air con available if it doesn’t turn itself off. Showers took ages to warm up. Big fridge in room with microwave, coffee maker and hair dryer - but don’t use them all at the same time. It’s a rule. Good location. Clean.

I have stayed here several time over the years in several rooms. This was my first time since the pandemic and my first time on the third floor. Things have not changed. The people are great, the place is well located with food and a subway stop close by, and the rooms are basic, but have all you need. I especially like that the rooms are clean, the bed is comfortable and the showers have hot water fast even on the top floor. Given the location the price is excellent

Our room is really nice and clean and comfortable. In our room there is a sink, microwave and oven also fridge. Its like you rent small apartment. But the problem on our room is the window. There's air coming from outside by the window. And its directly from your head. The street of this place is really close to restaurants, bars, pharmacyand liquor store. Walking distance

Overall terrible experience here!! So many things went wrong with our stay here. I too am in the hospitality business and can understand times are tough but to mislead your customers is completely not okay! Be upfront on your website and not misleading at all. First, I chose this hotel because of it's competitive pricing. Other hotels in the area cost close to $250.00-$350.00/night whereas this one was advertised as $160.00/night. No where was I told that I had to pay an additional $100.00 upon arrival! If I had known this I would've paid for the much more accommodating competitors in the area. Not to mention that their website says "Parking available", which was another reason I chose this place as we had planned to take an uber to the rogers center and needed overnight parking. but I had no indication that the parking had to be reserved ahead of time. So upon arrival we were informed there were no parking available on their lot - so in downtown toronto, we had to find overnight parking that cost us an extra $50.00 and almost cost us losing the Blue Jays game as we had to look for over two hours for available overnight parking. Now again, my reasoning for choosing this location was the price was reasonable, but having to pay an extra $160.00 that was not expected - it was not worth it. Especially considering the state of the building. It looks like a run down drug home. The room was excessively warm. When we arrived we saw there was a window A/C unit and thought nothing of it and proceeded to the game. But when we returned to a very warm room, we went to turn on the a/c just to find it was not plugged in... then when we went to plug it in, the plug couldn't reach the outlit... and trust me we tried everything. We looked all around for an extension cord or something! The desk was closed at 6:00pm so no one could assist us. So we suffered through one of the worst nights sleeps we had in a long time. 100% Would not recommend this place! I went here to save some money but ended up spending an extra $160.00. I would recommend to anyone looking for a hotel in toronto to just pay the extra amount on their competitors because they offer parking and no surprise fees when arriving. It is not worth the stress that comes with going to this location.

Located on a quiet street but just a short walk to where the action is happening. The rooms are charming. Big comfortable bed. Fridge, coffee maker. Cups, plates and cutlery. Even wine glasses. I highly recommend this place.

The stay here wasn't bad at all. Great location and friendly front desk staff. The only thing that impacted my stay here negatively was the presence of a raccoon which would be out front when I came home late lol

I’ve stayed there in a single room in august 2013 and loved it and staff was very friendly. I would love to visit back someday. I was even so happy that I’ve put my trash, bedding and towels nicely at the end of my bed with a tip ;)

No thrills, great location and much cheaper than alternatives. - The rooms are serviced and cleaned by hardworking staff - The rooms are small, but workable - Aircon, fridge, few clothings rails, full bathroom, coffee maker - No lifts: you will be lugging suitcases up flights of stairs - Passcode & keys for building entry - Manned service desk until 6pm - Small building and minimal desk staff, so you may have a wait to be served while they tend to someone else - Possible to leave luggage behind after check out (for later flights etc) - Hotel was v accomodating in allowing early check-in (flights arrived earlier than their check-in time) - Location is very good for the price, accessible to downtown The Victorian aspect of this place is cute and very obvious. If you're expecting the quietness and full service of a giant hotel then obviously stay at one of those. This is a good place to stay at the price point and location.

Excellent customer service, location, and room. This is the perfect place to be if you're looking for an inexpensive place in downtown area. Transportation is highly accessible too. The only issue I had is the internet being slow and not connecting properly. If the owner is reading, I suggest investing in more wifi since there's plenty of guests using the same wifi.

We stayed at the hotel for 7 nights, the location is very good and unfortunately the cleanliness of the hotel is very bad, I reported this and the response seems more pretexts than any solution, on all the days we were there the floor was not cleaned on any of the days we were there. some days they didn't make the bed, they didn't wash dishes, actually very very detestable cleanliness.

This has become my go-to place to stay in Toronto when I need a clean and affordable private room in an excellent location. I would totally recommend this place when traveling solo in Toronto and you just need a place to sleep. The only disadvantage about this guest house is the poor wi-fi, so don't count on having any zoom meetings. To note: check-in times with staff are limited to a couple of hours in the afternoon. If you're checking in late, you will be e-mailed instructions about how to do so.

Cute little inn. Nice staff. Rooms are small, but has everything you need and is in close proximity to everything. Would book again.

Awesome location and wonderful, helpful staff. The room however, was awful. I wouldn’t go back. Extremely musty and hot with no way to air it out. Air con was Saran wrapped and tv was unusable. (Wouldn’t turn off all the way so had to sleep With it on as you are under instructions not to unplug anything) Bed was hard. With some maintenance issues are fixable.

Great place and near metro stations so you can move easily thorough the city. Accommodation’s good in relation to the price. I don’t give more starts because you can hear absolutely everything from other rooms which is a problem at night or early morning with other guests being so loud.

  • 1/5 Giuseppe G. 2 years ago on Google
Overpriced for what you get. Also phoned twice to ask about monthly rates cause their website states that you need to call the front desk to get a price, and both times the people I spoke with did not answer the question and said call back later, or check the website. Seems like a pretty easy question to answer but I guess not at Victoria's Mansion.

Location is good for walking to AGO and university. Staff are friendly. Room is clean enough, but not new, or in any way cute or Victorian themed, but that's not surprising considering the reasonable room rates. Would return if location was the main attraction.

Exactly what I wanted. I feel like this place is a gem. I traveled solo and felt very safe here. Additionally, the staff and manager were not intrusive whatsoever, but they were pleasant and helpful. Totally recommend.

Beautiful historical building. Rooms are small but comfortable. If you are a person of larger size you may have some issues as it's a tight room but for me it worked okay. Cute grounds and easy check in and convenient parking. It's not extravagant but a good bed and safe and felt comfortable enough for a night or two.
