If there were half stars, we’d probably rate Akita a 3.5, reason being that it is good, but not as good as it should be given the price and the hype. The food presentation was top notch, but the taste itself was very average and thus underwhelming. In fact, I think we’ve had better sushi at takeout or even ready-made. We also tried the ribeye, and like everything else, the presentation was good but the meat itself was underwhelming. It was chewy and tough, a very soft sear, and didn’t come with any sides. It was also oily which was unappealing. The octopus was surprisingly fried with a batter, which made it taste a bit like fried chicken. However, it was my favorite dish and the truffle potato fluff was delicious. The cocktails were disappointing and weak — my first one tasted watered down and my girlfriend’s tasted like juice. Far too expensive for what they were. The waiting staff were quite nice and attentive. They were very accommodating even when we arrived late so the service gets a 5/5. We will likely not be returning but if you want an upscale experience with mediocre food, then I would recommend it.

We were pretty mind blown by the food, particularly the crispy rice fish and the unagi. The fried rice was amazing too. Honestly everything was amazing but the crispy rice and unagi were just kind blowing. We celebrated my bday here and we loved our evening. Great service and atmosphere too!!

Food tastes okay (I guess) but I've certainly had much better sushi at a fraction of the price. $250 later my date and I were still hungry and went elsewhere after for more filling food. If you're in to taking pictures for the Gram or TikTok to look like you're cool, then I suppose you'll have a good time. If you're just a foodie like myself who thought a Michelin star would mean mind blowing food, set your expectations a lot lower.

This is a must try restaurant. Everything that we got was delicious. One of the top dishes that I recommend is the Miso Black Cod and the Filet Mignon. Even though I’ve had these dishes before in other places, this restaurant incorporates unique and savoury flavours.

We had a simple but delicious dinner here. We ordered the AB Wagyu Tacos (with savoury bulgogi sauce and tomato ponzu), King Crab Fried Rice (Alaskan king crab with xo sauce and vegetable mix) and Akira’s Signature Futomaki Rolls (with maguro, shrimp, salmon, egg castella and fried tofu). The food tasted amazing! The place look elegant with a lively atmosphere and the staffs were very friendly. We will definitely come back for more!

We walked in to a fairly busy evening for the restaurant as it was xmas eve. The hostess was all by herself trying to do her best and was one of the only reasons we had a decent experience. Before we sat down we asked it we were being seated on a corner table or center and she said only the center table was available but 30min later she checked back on us and asked if we wanted to move to a better table and we hadn’t even requested it earlier but the fact that she remembered was amazing. We didn’t get her name but I will only remember this restaurant for her service. As we sat down the server was a bit cold and didn’t even introduce himself nor go through with the menu. He definitely needs more training and coaching. When we asked what was in the sashmi and sushi platter he said its upto the chef, but when we asked him to confirm with the kitchen he said it’s salmon and tuna l without confirming and we didn’t know what else would be in the platter. And then the preset options for TIP starts at 28% on the machine….seriously? The 2 cocktails we got were pretty good and one of them was presented very well and seemed to hit the price point we paid. The wagyu taco tasted like ground beef adobo definitely not worth the price in my opinion. The uni was definitely frozen and not properly thawed. It had no flavor and all we could taste was wasabi and it completely ruined our appetite. The sushi roll we got barely had any flavor. For the price we paid it was absolutely one of the worst meals we have ever had. We have never left a restaurant without getting a main and dessert but we were so disappointed we left mid way.

We had a great time at Akira Back yesterday night! We came for a birthday celebration of me and 2 of my friends. Food, atmosphere, service were phenomenal! All the dishes were delicious, drinks were so beautiful and tasty, especially the Geisha cocktail that recommended by the server. They have a golden stair is very nice for pictures 😁 Servers were very gentle and nice! We also got 3 small cakes for our birthday. Thank you so much! Definitely be back 👍🏼

10/10. I love Akira Back. The food is consistently amazing. The service could honestly be a little better for such an expensive restaurant. The rolls are really good as well as the Tuna pizza (with all Tuna), Toro Caviar and Crispy Rice. I do wish that the dessert menu was a little better! I always find myself getting dessert somewhere else because the desserts don’t look as appetizing here.

Hard not to love this place. A fusion of quality, Japanese, and experimentation. Was lucky enough to almost try the entire menu. My favourite dish (other than the amazing sashimi) ended up being their “pizza.” Service bombed, however.

Incredible food. Incredible service. Fine dining at its finest. Prepare yourself to pay more then your typical Japanese restaurant however worth every dollar. Check out the Japanese whiskeys, sake and pretty much every dish in the menu was on point.

One of my favorite spots for Japanese and Korean cuisine! Everything we had was 10/10. Crab fried rice was perfect, the back cod was amazing. The wagyu tacos are a must and the king crab was delicious! Fun rolls and signature drinks. No indoor seating at this particular time but the outdoor tent with heaters was fine.

Near the entrance of the Bisha hotel. Very aesthetically pleasing atmosphere. I found the portion sizes to be quite small, and the prices on the higher side. The food was decent but didn't have any standout dishes that impressed me. They have availability of a private room for bookings, which can be great for parties. We tried the mushroom pizza, opting for a half-and-half combination with tuna. Service was friendly. I probably wouldn’t go back again just cause I was still hungry after spending $180 per person after tip

We had a reservation at 9:45pm got there early and had to wait for 10 minutes to be seated and the manager on duty was quite rude. He told us we can go downstairs to the bar until a table is ready and had the audacity to tell we can cancel. Why would cancel if we made a reservation! Other than that the food was good and our server was quite polite.

terrible service, greeter GM was VERY rude. The general manager didn't apologize for screwing up reservation, waited 30min to be seated even with advance reservation, group of 5 spent $1100 kicked us out before we could finish our meal even though it wasn't our fault they delayed seating (general manager = tall, with glasses) extremely unpleasant, I highly DO NOT recommend this place. much better restaurant will better service for money to be sent. They kept saying health inspector is coming we can't be over capacity yet they should take reservations if they are worried about being at capacity. I truly hope health inspector investigate this restaurants numerous violations.

This place is amazing, really love the food and the overall atmosphere! Even though the menu offering is not extensive, but every single dishes we tried were delightful and very meticulously prepared. Note that the portion is on the smaller side, which allow you to order variety of dishes to try on. The price is also reasonable for a mid-high range restaurant. One small improvement is for the service staff to be more attentive by proactively checking on us to see if we need something instead of us having to flag every single time. But overall, we had a pleasant experience and looking forward to come again.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Akira Back and it was truly an exceptional experience. From the moment I stepped inside, the ambiance was inviting and the staff was incredibly welcoming. Every dish I tried was an absolute delight. The sushi rolls were beautifully presented and packed with flavor. The Yellowtail Serrano roll was a standout with its perfect balance of spicy and tangy notes. Overall, I highly recommend dining at Akira Back. Whether you're a fan of Japanese or Korean cuisine, or simply looking for a unique culinary adventure, this restaurant will not disappoint.

Literally on of the best gastronomic experience in my life 😍 the food was truly exquisite. Every meal we ordered was so delicious, full of flavour. The variety of meal representation was surprising too. From plates and cutlery to the interior walls and lighting - just AMAZING. 💯will be back and will recommend to others! One thing though - I wish the servers would be more attentive and pleasant.

One of the most epic restaurants ever especially the starters. The sushi rolls imo were a little underwhelming compared to some that I’ve had though and although the waiter made up for it with free drinks and shots, I was a little irritated that my food arrived before my first drink did. I’d still go back and rank it as one of the best Japanese restaurants I’ve been to any where in the world. The design and atmosphere was top tier too- absolutely love it.

Fantastic experience! we did share-plate styles. I don't eat seafood but still 100% enjoyed the experience & seeing the presentation of the food itself. Will 100% return for the tacos! The group enjoyed all sea food items they ordered as well!

An unreal dining experience with a beautiful ambiance & unmatched service. Came here for a birthday dinner and was immediately impressed by the lovely staircase that takes you to the dining area. The servers were so lovely and we were immediately seated & had our orders taken. They were incredibly accommodating with allergies and dietary restrictions for my friends. Our favourites from the meal itself were the cucumber salad and the Brother from Another Mother roll. The other items we ordered were okay but not outstanding. I also wished they had explicitly stated the charge for water as we ended up unintentionally spending $42 on it.

Very detailed food presentation. Tuna and mushroom pizza is so flavourful. Pop rock sushi is very fun and cool! Would love to see the interior warmed up a bit, I personally prefer a more romantic vibe. Hip and upscale - service is fab.

The tuna and mushroom pizza is so good! The truffle oil was just enough to not to overpower other ingredients. The crisp is so tasty! King crab and the squid tempura were disappointing. Braised short ribs were fatty and executed well. Finished with some good desserts, both the chocolate cup and the lychee mousse were just right on sweetness. Overall this restaurant is great. Feel like some dishes are hit or miss, so not a definitely go back place.

Extremely great food; and Sous Chef Andrew was so nice; answering our questions at the Sushi Bar; and providing an appetizer "on the house"; plus a slice of cake (This was a belated birthday celebration for me; by one week- long story - but our plans changed due to a friend's emergency.). LOVED every roll, sushi, etc. The service (Shawn) was good; but seemed to take a long time for bar drinks - only service hiccup. (Order Aperol Spritz; took almost 10 minutes to get the second one.) All else was good; really enjoyed sitting at the Sushi bar. It was such an enjoyable evening. Thank you. Will dine at one of your other restaurants as we travel.

Had an amazing time here. The pizza, wagyu tacos, and "Brother from another Mother" are must-haves. Service was excellent, the atmosphere was great. Many of the dishes were pleasant surprises. The dessert we ordered was mediocre, though that didn't affect our experience! Would definitely come back here again and recommend it for celebratory or special occasions.

I was there NYE and I was shocked at how great the food & service was for it being so busy! Every dish was elevated above my expectations, presentation and taste were both immaculate ✨ The vibe is dark & intimate (perfect for date night!). The bartenders were amazing, engaging and friendly while I waited for my table (which didn’t take long). I can’t find a single bad part of my experience… I will 100% be going back next time I’m in Toronto!

My most favorite restaurant in Toronto! If I can post a 7-star review for Akira Back Toronto every single time I dine here, I would. We come here at least twice a year, but if I can dine here once a month, I certainly would. Food is outstanding, service is stellar, atmosphere is chic. Recommend every single item on the menu. Dasha is amazing, but would choose Akira Back over it in a heartbeat. Would love to try all his other restaurants around the world.

i’ll start by saying Akira Back had excellent service. They were accommodating in pushing back our reservation time by half an hour and everyone who attended our table were polite and easy to talk to. The food however was nothing special considering the prices and the “high end establishment”. The wagyu tacos were as big as my pinky and it tasted basic. The sushi was fresh but it never had the WOW factor you would expect from a high end restaurant like this. The best thing was the crab fried rice. That was delicious and I would order that again. That being said, i was highly disappointed to see Akiras Back’s menus were gross and sticky. You would expect everything to be 100% flawless but even my seat was stained with who knows what. The pages on the drink menu were stuck together and it was very cheaply made with only an elastic band holding it. Overall, there are various other japanese restaurants in Toronto you can try that are 100x better for half the price. Akira Back is more for the “aesthetics” and influencers who love to take pictures in their golden staircase. I would suggest you pass on this place as you probably wont leave full and it will break your wallet for mediocre food.

Spectacular place. The atmosphere is gorgeous, I sat at the bar and enjoyed excellent, attentive, friendly, and personal service. The food is absolutely delicious. The sushi roll was very good, not a showstopper, but the chicken dish and mushroom dish, both mains, could not have been more rewarding. And then they even toasted me some brioche at the end so I could finish the incredible sauce left behind after I finished the mushrooms. Drinks, fantastic. Will be back, 1000%.

Beautiful interior design! Our server Greg was lovely and kindly recommended drinks and food. He helped make our experience that much better. The food was delicious and had beautiful plating. The cherry on top for me was their new dessert (Akira Back Apple).

My friend and I went here to celebrate our birthdays. We're both vegetarians and we both left very happy. Our first dish was the mushroom pizza and it set our standard high for the rest of the night. It was beautiful and tasty and a pleasant surprise of textures. Nothing like a pizza or what you would think of Japanese food. Then the eggplant miso was even more visually appealing and equally tasty. I loved the vegan sushi, the coleslaw on top have it beautiful crunch and flavor. If we had gone from these 3 dishes to dessert I think it would have been the perfect meal. But we were in an indulgent mood and also got the tofu and corn tempura. I was not a big fan of either but that's probably because I'm enjoying fried food less and less. I think I would've enjoyed the corn tempura more if it came with a sauce. It needed something to cut the fried-ness of it. We both wish we didn't get the mushroom dish - it was the most expensive dish we got and the most disappointing in terms of taste and visual appeal. The yuzu dessert we got was beautiful and tasty. But what made our night was the surprise piece of matcha cake we both got on a plate that said Happy Birthday. The servers were so kind and answered all our questions and gave good suggestions. Overall, we left really happy. We were really impressed with the look and taste of most of our dishes and the desserts were delicious. Thank you Akira Back for a great night!

As always exceptional! I love sitting at the kitchen bar and watch chefs make dishes. Friendly chefs. Super nice and friendly waiter stuff. Great food. Everything is as always very fresh. Super fresh sashimi. Everyone must try roll with candy pop. I find mushroom pizza taste better then fish. I’m very sad that you took miso soup off the menu, I though it was the best one in Toronto. Great deserts. And my favourite lychee martini!

Overall good place! We tried the LADY MURASAKI cocktail and it was delicious! We have been here a few times before but recently we have been finding all the food increasingly spicy … to the point where we start coughing and our eyes start to tear up lol.. and our spice tolerance is quite normal I’d say … but other than that, everything is good. We got the salmon tataki, hot mess, show me the roll, and brother from another mother.

We actually discovered Akira Back in Singapore where we travelled earlier in the year, and then found out that Toronto has an Akita Back too. Both locations offer high level sushi and sashimi specialities. We enjoyed everything, the food, the drinks and particularly the service which was beyond perfection. A must visit restaurant!

Toronto has an impressive, if daunting, restaurant scene. It was hard to narrow down places we wanted to try, but I'm glad Akira back made the cut. Delicious from beginning to end, be sure to try all they offer, including their warm, cold, main, and sushi plates. Everything is good for sharing so this place is ideal for a group.

The food was good, we like the cold dishes more than the hot shares. Just stick with sushis and rolls, don’t venture out. The drinks and wine lists are great tho. The services were great, but somehow there was a lot of police presence when we were there. The patio is nice but can get quite loud with street constructions and traffic.

I was highly recommended to check this place out. We are so glad we did. Everything we ordered was unique, delectable and refined. I loved that they had non-alcoholic drinks on their drinks menu, as a non-drinker it was pleasant to see they accommodated for that. The menu was also written extremely well, you didn't have excessive, fancy verbiage. The atmosphere was upscale but comfortable. The service was excellent, everyone was very friendly and professional. I could go on and on. Highly recommend!

Japanese/Korean fusion cuisine with ever so slightly above average quality sushi. It was enjoyable but nothing worth writing home about. Will not go back because it doesn’t live up to the hype and you can get better sushi in Toronto for much less. Service was excellent. Great drinks selections (especially mocktails). Do not expect any decent dinner conversations as it is a rather noisy venue.

Went here to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday, good food. I would personally recommend the wagyu tacos and rock shrimp both are really tasty appetizers. The lamb chops and Sea bass were also very nice in flavour. The cocktails were also nice looking and tasty. Really nice ambiance inside the restaurant and beautiful inside. Only minor issue I had was that my waiter wasn’t as present as I would have wanted. Had to wait a decent amount of time for my second drink order and water to get refilled .

This restaurant is very aesthetic! I got show me the roll, king crab fried rice, sashimi tacos was good but nothing special. Stand outs were Brother from another mother and fatty tuna. Service was good right when I came in, but when I asked for the bill it took a very long time despite the server knowing I had an appointment elsewhere. The food-only some items were good. Sashimi isn’t as fresh as I expected. The best item was the sashimi taco. The truffle bomb was overpowered by the mash potato so I didn’t taste the uni. The seasoned tofu is a firm tofu with a hard exterior. Crispy rice is ok, it’s not something I would order again. Miso black cod was soft as the fish is always buttery and soft but the fish was marinated salty. Wagyu fried rice wasn’t special. The wagyu didn’t melt in my mouth. Brother from another mother special roll reminded me of a dynamite roll but with a bit of foie gras on top. Overall I’d come here just for special occasions because it is a very pretty restaurant but as for the food, not really something I would crave.

Great restaurant for a nice dinner out. Went here for two and really enjoyed our visit. Better for groups since most of the entrees are designed to be shared. The food is extremely fresh and the service is exceptionally quick. We tried the crispy rice, signature tuna pizza (half and half with mushroom), tacos, and dragon roll. Everything was delicious and well prepared. The servers also did a nice job of explaining each dish as its a Michelin star restaurant. In our experience the food came really quick and we were done our dinner within half an hour.

My husband and I came here for our Anniversary dinner and had the tasting menu option. Ambiance: very nice sophisticated decor but music was loud, I couldn't hear my server. Probably what they were aiming for-Vegas style Food: the white fish carpaccio was good, the sushi pizza was meh. The sushi plates were ok, the wagyu tacos were flavourful-too salty for my taste, the octopus was good, they ran out of the wagyu so we had the rib eye (extra $10) - my husband's was good, mine was too chewy. Dessert was their only saving grace. Service: our main server was too busy that he would check up on us, he would walk away even before he hears our reply. The food server didnt know she was serving wagyu tacos-our main server had to tell us. I asked for a Japanese tea and I got a Sloane chinese green tea. Overall: I set my bar too high knowing it was by a Michelin-starred restaurateur but I was disappointed. I've been to a few Michelin-starred restaurants and this obviously will not be one of them. The food and service was overall mediocre.

Our server gave great recommendations and was very attentive the entire night - noticed other staff was working very well as a team instead of just paying attention to their own tables. Beautiful environment, delicious food, what more could I ask for?

I think if I had a goal in life from the perspective of writing, it'd be to properly explain just how heavenly each bite of each dish that I ate here was. Compliments to the chef, the servers, and all the staff for providing an incredible dining experience. Will definitely come back!

This place is my number one site. Of all restaurants I know I favor it most. I never miss an opportunity to go to visit this place. Whenever I want to go to a delicious meal, this restaurant comes straight to my head. good and many types of food and a rich cuisine.generous staff, and good spirit. Also, the pay is modest. I praise this spot with no doubt.

My boyfriend and I went to Akira Back for the first time about a week ago while we had a staycation in Toronto (we’re from Hamilton). From the taste to the presentation, the food was nothing short of spectacular. Our server Monica was so lovely and extremely knowledgeable about all of the dishes. Having never tried Sake before, she gave us a great rundown of all the kinds they carry and even a background of how it’s made! It was truly an amazing dining experience overall and we will definitely be returning in the near future! Thank you Monica!

Had a fantastic dining experience here. I'm sure the interior was beautiful but I wanted to sit out in the patio. Service was great and everything on the menu looked great. The food was top notch.. definitely on the pricier side but it shows with the quality of their ingredients, the flavour, and the presentation. We had the Tuna/Mushroom Pizza, AB Wagyu Tacos, Hot Mess Roll, 48 Hour Wagyu Short Rib, King Crab Fried Rice, and Brother from Another Mother Roll. The Tuna/Mushroom Pizza really stood out for me but everything else was also excellent. The Emperor's Garden was also my drink of choice! Overall, I would definitely come back for the food! So good!!

I came with baby in stroller today, and I was beyond pleasantly surprised at how good the food, service, and atmosphere was! They even have an elevator which is already miles ahead of the other upscale Japanese restaurants in the city. The sashimi platter and sushi were fresh and the presentation was pretty with this blue light in the ice. I would recommend the waygu fried rice and Alaska king crab appetizer. First bite of these two dishes were memorable with the ‘oh my gosh’ feeling. They were also extremely accommodating to my screaming baby who was extra fussy tonight. Great food, would go back again!

If you feel like eating super tasty authentic Japanese food, this is your place. Super fast service, few items were quicker than McDonald's!Every thing that we ordered was delicious and made us reorder. Soft and sofisticated ambience.. Full points to the staff!

Why did it takes so long to try this place! The Michelin star chef Akira Back gave me a taste of his culinary skills on the several dishes I have been recommended and was super impressed! Every dish was delicious! There were a few items that were not captured which I would definitely recommend and the dishes are: toro caviar, salmon Serrano, and the edaname.

The truth is I found this to be an average Japanese spot. Loved the ambiance & the service was excellent. The food was great I have no complaints but it isn’t anything special or different than the other Japanese restaurants. My favorite was the tuna pizza because I like the crunch 😆🤤 The wagyu tacos weren’t as exciting as I thought & not so flavorful 🤔 Will I come again? Probably not. But will I discourage you from coming? Also no 😆🤷🏻‍♀️

The food is beyond amazing. Every dish is so tasty. My favorite is the truffle bomb and the 48 hour short rib( it melts in your months and I forgot to take the picture). The price is insane but really worth it !! You can tell they really out a lots of efforts and though into the food

This place was amazing! The food here was fantastic!! We got the wagyu tacos, alaskan king crab, truffle bomb, jidori chicken, and the ribeye. I had two of the Summa Time cocktails as well which were really good. The interior at this place was beautiful and the atmosphere was really nice. I would definitely recommend this place, and will definitely come back.

Great food, nice ambiance, music was too loud for me. I had the Jidori chicken and the short rib. I’ve never tasted chicken that was so tender and well cooked. The short rib was just as delicious! I would recommend trying their old fashioned as well.
