Summary: At the end of the day, my Lasik went well and my vision is much better. But once they have your money, they couldn't care less about you. When you first reach out to them, they are great. Very communicative, helpful, and patient. They walk you through the process thoroughly and make sure any anxiety/questions you may have are addressed before your surgery date. The surgeon and especially the nurses are very kind and competent, and they do everything they can to make sure you are comfortable and calm during the procedure. The after-care is another story. Once your procedure is over, the front desk/admin staff treat you like utter trash. They tell you not hesitate to call if you have any questions or concerns during recovery, but the receptionists (in person and over the phone) treated every interaction like it was a huge imposition and a waste of time. Their aftercare optometrist told me I could continue to see him for my follow-up appointments, but then had the receptionists immediately call my referring optometrist's office to tell them I was trying to "cheat" the system somehow by not going back to my regular eye doctor. Then they called me and berated me, making me feel like I was some kind of criminal - for something their own optometrist said wasn't a problem? When I tried to explain to the receptionist that their optometrist told me himself that I could see him for follow-up appointments, she cut me off and yelled over me. I understand if there was a mistake and certain processes have to be followed, but there is no excuse for reception/admin staff to be treating patients in an outright hostile manner.

I can only speak for myself and detail my experiences with the Bochner Eye Institute. People can draw their own conclusions as to the care I received. My experience with Bochner was, for the most part, negative. The best praise I can give is to the support staff who were friendly and helpful. And the quality of the cataract surgery itself was good (although two months later my eyes are still “swimmy”). But otherwise . . . . The post-operative care I received was cursory and gruff. After the first surgery I was surprised at the examination the next day that the doctor didn’t bother to ask me how my eye was doing or if I had any concerns. At no point did she ask how I was feeling. I’ve seen my vet show more empathy to my cat during an examination. At the conclusion of my first surgery, the staff in the operating room were kind enough to allow me to catch my breath and pull myself together after a grueling procedure (halfway through the surgery my left hand started shaking uncontrollably). The treatment after the second surgery didn’t go as well. Within ten seconds of completing the surgery, the technician monitoring my heart rate demanded to know what medication I was taking. He also told me that my rapid heart rate during surgery almost sent me to the hospital. Instead of allowing me to gather myself after a very difficult surgery, this technician was badgering me. And to what purpose? The surgery was over. Instead of allowing me to recover, this technician was causing me undue stress and grief. I called Bochner the next day because I wanted to speak to someone about the technician. So that he wouldn’t harass patients in the same way in future. I was told that someone on staff would get back to me “shortly.” Six days passed and Bochner couldn’t be bothered to return my phone call. And then there’s the receipt for the nearly $3000 that I spent for the surgery. The staff gave me a printout from the credit card machine—the type you’d get at the corner store for buying a loaf of bread. My insurance company told me that Bochner needed to provide a proper receipt with details about the surgery. I e-mailed Bochner and they replied that the “proper department” would get back to me “directly.” Days passed: nothing. I telephoned Bochner (eventually getting through to a person rather than a recording) and was told that I would receive the receipt by the end of the day. Again: nothing. It was only when I had a third party contact Bochner and demand the receipt that they finally sent it to me. A receipt that they should have given me two months previously but didn’t bother. I encountered care at the Bochner that ranged from excellent (the junior medical staff) to indifferent/incompetent (the surgical and office staff). My phone calls and e-mails to the Bochner were routinely ignored. All in all, I found my experience with Bochner to be terrible. Would I recommend the Bochner Eye Institute in Toronto? Not in a million years. ___________________________ 2024 Update My experience with the Bochner Eye Institute was, in a word, horrible (see above). But when it was all over I thought “The surgeon was miserable and unprofessional, but at least she was competent.” Wrong. Fast forward eight months when my right eye became inflamed. After weeks of visits to optometrists and ophthalmologists (at one point I saw six different doctors in six days--two optometrists, one family doctor and three ophthalmologists), it was determined that there were still cataract fragments in my right eye. Fragments that the Bochner surgeon should have removed but didn’t. After lying dormant for eight months, this caused irritation and cloudy, impaired vision. Eventually I had to undergo surgery at North York General Hospital to fix the mistake. The surgeon at Bochner did a substandard job (all the while charging me $3,000 for both eyes) The Bochner nightmare just keeps giving and giving. I can honestly say that entrusting my eye care to the Bochner Eye Institute has been the biggest mistake of my life.

If you care about your eyesight, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT go to Bochner Eye Institute. Biggest bloody cash grab. Was recommended there by an optometrist/ophthalmologist I had been seeing because of proximity to where I was staying due to COVID. Quickly realized after my procedure how little both sides actually had my best interests at heart. Was promised full acuity after my procedure within 6 months, my vision has gotten worse. Trying to get medical records and get a hold of anyone at the office over the phone is like pulling teeth with a lot of voicemails. Would absolutely leave 0 stars or negative stars if I could.

I did my vision correction surgery with Bochner and I would recommend you find another surgeon. Post surgery, I was seeing double and it is now permanent. I ask at every follow up what went wrong and what my condition is and doctor Stein just says that it might get better with time. It has now been 7 years. I feel they refuse to tell me the truth because they are afraid of bad press or lawsuits. I encourage you to find other clinics as this clinic. Even with glasses or contacts, I do not have clear vision anymore.

➡️I had my LASIK surgery today (Sep 8th). Overall, the experience was organized. Arrival time was 8:40am and surgery time was 9:40am. At 8:41am, Delray (forgive me if you have a prefix to your name) took me in for more testing and he’s the kindest. Then, I met Dr. Rebecca Stein, she took more testing and then I was led downstairs to the surgery area. Valium was given to me to call me down but I guess I didn’t need it anyways cos I wasn’t nervous. The laser process itself took less then 5 minutes on both eyes. Dr. Rebecca had another staff in there who led me through every step of the procedure, that made me feel more comfortable. My eyes were checked to make sure everything looked good and follow-up appointment was booked also. By the time I was done, tho my vision was blurry (that’s totally normal), I still could see better than before having the procedure. I went back home to nap for at least 3 hours and my vision is still a bit blurry but better than before I left the clinic. I’ll continue to update. ➡️One week (Sep 14) post-lasik checkup (at Unionville), and my eyes are healing nicely and quickly. I can see very clearly, less irritation. The feeling of something stuck in your eye has lessened. Still using preservatives-free eye drops. So far, so good. ➡️Update (Sep 28): I barely feel dry eyes and the feeling of something been stuck in your eye has stopped (I actually didn’t notice when it stopped). I have no irritation and it doesn’t feel like I had surgery on my eyes a few weeks ago. I’m still using my eye-drops. Vision is better than 20/20. I intentionally look at very far objects or signage to see how good my vision is, and it’s excellent. I can see way better than when I was using glasses. ➡️ Update (Nov 17): Eyes feel normal, no foreign feeling or sensation. I don’t see halos around lights. No dryness. Eyes feel great. Best decision ever. Vision 20/15 confirmed. ➡️ Update (5 months post-surgery): Everything remains normal. No dry eyes, halos etc. It doesn’t feel like I had surgery done. Can’t believe it took me this long to get LASIK. Glad I did it with Bochner.

I recently had Laser Eye Surgery at Bochner and it was such a pleasant experience. They made me feel so comfortable, the surgery was quick and recovery was super fast for me as well with no complications. I highly recommend Dr. Stein and his team, the whole team is amazing.

Had recent cataract surgery. One eye vision good, the left eye had retinal tears a week following surgery. Bochner Absolutely no help. no advice, no explanation. I recommend going to a hospital or clinic where the surgeons have a better understanding of retinas, and can treat you when things go wrong. ultimately I paid a lot of money and can’t see out of one eye and may require additional surgery which they aren’t qualified to perform.

I had my second traditional cataract surgery yesterday - right eye last week, left eye yesterday- and I had to write about how life- changing this experience has been. I have had no problems and most importantly, I can see clearly without glasses for the first time in many years. My surgeon was Dr. Fatimah Gilani and her work and demeanour is top notch. Dr. Gilani is very personable with an excellent bedside manner and I highly recommend her to anyone. I have met with Dr. Gilani 5 times over the course of my surgeries and post op visits and she has been very pleasant and professional each time. I never felt rushed even though she is very busy. I was apprehensive about the surgery itself, but it was painless and very quick taking approximately 15 minutes each time. The staff are all very courteous and helpful. This has been a family run business for over 90 years and it runs like a well oiled machine. If you’re considering cataract or laser surgery, Bochner Eye Institute is the best place to go!

Dr Stein corrected my -14 vision two weeks ago with intraocular lenses and the results are life-changing! I wish I had done this many years ago. He puts his patients at ease and all of his staff are friendly and professional. I would 100% recommend Bochner Eye Institute to anyone wanting to make sure their eyes are in safe hands.

I’ve been to Bochner a few times for diagnosis confirmation (Ketatoconus) and for my cross-linking surgery. Dr. Stein and associates handled my procedure. The staff was really nice and tried their best to make me feel relaxed and comfortable. To be honest healing has been extremely slow and my vision was still pretty blurry post surgery. Not what I was expecting. I’ve been told the surgery stopped the progression which was good news. It’s been about eight months now but my optometrists Dr. Tai & Dr. Fong ( from Dr, Tai and Associates) fitted me with Scleral lenses and that is what really saved my vision. I’m able to see a lot more clearly due to this new treatment.

I had Lasik for far-sightedness back in 2007. I had a high prescription and was told that the level of regression would be that I might need reading glasses down the road. Not true at all, year over year my eyes have continued to regress where I need full time corrective lenses and a stronger annual prescription each time I visit my optometrist. Do your own research and do not rely on what they tell you.

I'm very glad I chose Bochner for my laser eye surgery (Lasik with Astigmatism.) The process was quick and a lot easier than expected. They have it down like a well oiled machine but you don't feel like a "number" to them. The doctors double and tripled checked me before and the package includes all of my follow up appointments with my own eye doctor. So far about 9 months post procedure, my vision is great! I had no issues but trust if I did they would follow through to fix them.

I had a great experience with the Bochner Eye Institute. I had the ICL procedure done and it was quick and painless. My vision was greatly improved by the next day after surgery. Big thanks to Dr. Stein and especially the surgical team who were very kind as well as Kristin who was a great first point of contact. Thanks again to the team at Bochner!

I️ recently had lasik surgery with Dr. Rebecca Stein at the Bochner Eye Institute and I️ could not recommend it more. To my surprise, the surgery was painless and she talked me through the surgery which made me feel comfortable and at ease. I️ was so impressed by her bedside manner and professionalism, but also her surgical skill. My recovery was so fast, and I️ am beyond happy with the results. My vision is 20/10, and I️ am seeing more detail than I️ ever did with contacts. In my follow up visits, the staff at Bochner were amazing- prompt to answer the phone, lead me through the clinic and answer any questions. I️f you choose to get Lasik with Dr. Rebecca Stein you are making the best decision!

This facility does not appear particularly concerned about patient well being. I was told the wait was 4 months to see a specialist for a condition called “narrow angles which develops suddenly and can lead to sudden and permanent loss of sight”. One year wait to be assessed for cataracts. Stay away from this place - unless you are paying big bucks for laser eye surgery you might go blind by the time they see you.

It’s been 3 years since I received LASIK and I am so glad that I did it. The procedure was extremely quick and painless. The recovery time was fairly short, with my vision becoming clear and sharp within 24 hours. I had dry eyes for around 1-2 months which drops solved, and have had no issues with my vision at night. Bochner is a little more expensive than some other clinics, but I can certainly say it was worth the cost. Hopefully my positive experience may help others choose to go through with it as it can be nerve wracking trying to commit to it.

Just had Refractive Lens Exchange laser eye surgery on Monday and Tuesday. The two step procedure takes a total of about 25mins. Just had my follow up today (Wednesday). Near sight is perfect and distance is already 20/20. No more glasses for the rest of my life! Dr Stein and team are awesome, best money I ever spent !👍👍👍😎😎

After doing some math on how much my daily multi-focal contacts were costing me, I called Bochner to see if they could fix my vision - close up, computer and distance. I talked to Peter S and he was amazing. He indicated that in order to fix my vision concerns I would need Refractive Lens Exchange. He explained the procedure and then he scheduled me for a consultation. The consultation was to do measurements and determine the general health of my eyes. Peter then spoke with me again and said I was a candidate for the surgery. My surgery was scheduled for mid-April 2023. During my pre-op the procedure was explained to me again and I met with Dr. Rebecca Stein to review any concerns and the risks. On surgery day I took the drops as prescribed and arrived just after 1pm for my 2pm surgery. Everything went as planned and now, 5 days later, my vision is remarkable. Close up, computer, distance, all good. I do see halos at night, as was told to me during the pre-op and will see if these reduce. But for the rest, it is truly amazing. Highly recommend this procedure to those looking to get rid of glasses and contacts! Thanks!

I had an incredible experience getting Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking for mild Keratoconus at Bochner in January. My initial technician when I arrived, Delray, was incredibly kind and compassionate during a time when I was feeling nervous and uneasy (as one does before surgery lol). My Ophthalmologist, Dr. Raymond Stein, was professional, knowledgeable and personable. The team was kind enough to allow my fiancé to come in with me through the entire process which put me at ease and meant so much to me. Finally, I want to give a HUGE shoutout to Marcel, who assisted in my surgery with the Riboflavin drops and UV light portion. Marcel made the experience so incredibly positive and it meant the world to me that he shared that he also had Keratoconus and had gone through this surgery. I was able to ask him questions about his experience (which was amazing because I've never knowingly met anyone else with this condition) and he was so open and honest about everything I could expect and guided me through each step of the surgery in a way that really put me at ease. I never thought I would look back at having eye surgery in such a positive light as if it was a great memory but it truly changed my life and made me stronger to go through this and have such a positive experience. For anyone out there who has Keratoconus and is nervous about getting Cross-Linking, I cannot even begin to tell you how much I recommend the team at Bochner. The anticipation of waiting for the surgery was far worse than the surgery itself or even the healing afterwards, which over the past 3 months has gone incredibly smoothly! Thank you, Bochner, for helping me get my vision back on track!

Initial consultation at Unionville location was thorough. The nurse answered my questions promptly via email. Lasik day went smoothly. The staff members made sure I was comfortable throughout the procedure. It all came down to booking the follow up appointment with the front desk. The lady (the one that had her hair dyed) was not friendly and approachable at all. She answered my questions bluntly and impolitely which turned my positive experience with this clinic to a negative one.

Worst experience ever. Got my left eye improved with laser, been in pain for years. Finally got some drops that I have to take twice a day but it is still painful day and night. The eye Never closes and it hurts all the time. Was put off and ignored for years whenever I went in. I never imagined that something like this could happen, I wish I had never let anyone near my eyes in anyway .

Dr. Raymond Stein performed my LASIK surgery almost 6 years ago. The procedure went smoothly, and the staff were excellent, even providing me with a blanket when I felt cold. At my eye checkup today, I was told I have 20/15 vision, which is sharper than 20/20. LASIK is life changing, and if you're thinking of getting it done, I highly recommend Bochner Institute. I chose them because they're the industry standard, and I didn't want to take any chances with something as important as my vision.

Cannot express how thankful I am of Dr.Rebecca Stein for preforming Lasik eye surgery on me it is incredible how fast I was able to see after since with out glass everything was fuzzy and now everything is crystal clear. I would definitely recommend Bochner Eye Institute to everyone. The whole team at Bochner where amazing from the day of consultation with Kristin then the day of surgery meeting Dr. Rebecca Stein and everyone else there.

I had a wonderful experience with Dr Nikeghbal, the refractive optician. He was very patient in knowing my concerns before doing any tests. Then he laid out all the options I had without pushing me to do lasik. I am so thankful for his unbiased advices.

INCREDIBLE! I went into ICL surgery wearing glasses for 27 years. I was not seeing even close to 20/20 with corrective lenses. I was unable to wear contacts. 9 days post ICL surgery and I am seeing 20/20 in both eyes. Surgery took around 6 minutes per eye and was painless. Dr. Stein was incredible. Follow up was quick and thorough. Could not be happier with the results!

I had Lasik vision correction with Dr. Raymond Stein in May 2022. The results have been absolutely amazing. I had worn glasses and contacts since 1996, and my prescription was nearly a minus 6. I now have greater than 20/20 vision! Prior to undergoing Lasik, I was a bit nervous about the procedure, but the entire Bochner Team was extremely professional and caring. All of my follow up appointments have been on time and the staff have taken the time to answer any of my questions. I strongly recommend Bochner to anyone considering Lasik. Thank you so much!

My experience at Bochner Eye Institute felt very unorganized and uncomfortable. Although Dr. Raymond Stein was incredible and helped me through the procedure, the other staff members (especially the one lady who worked reception) was very passive and cold toward patients and their family members. Although I understand the safety precautions of patients having to enter the building alone due to the health and safety of other patients, it was a lonesome experience. it would have been a much more comfortable experience having a family member there for moral support prior to the surgery, considering the fact i had no idea what to expect of this laser procedure. The process felt overall very unorganized. I sat in the waiting room for 40 minutes until I was seen when I was specifically asked to come an hour early. I was then brought into an office to make the payment, however I was not at all prepared to pay for the procedure at that time because my mother was to pay with her credit card. So it had to be done over the phone. It was all extremely unorganized. Nothing was explained from the start. I then had to do a handful of eye exams and then we went over all the post-op precautions, but aforementioned I wish I had moral support because I was far too nervous to retain what was being discussed. The surgery itself was very stressful. I was extremely tense and anxious. Although I was given a sedative beforehand, I went into the surgical room completely unsure of what to expect. The sedative did absolutely nothing to calm me down until after the procedure had finished. I was not comfortable at all, and I wish they’d have waited longer for the sedative to do its job before getting to work. Overall, this was an experience I’m relieved is over with. Dr. Raymond Stein and Dr. Black, thank you for your respect, patience and kindness during this experience. You both are truly the only reason I got through this surgery somewhat contained.
