I've always had a very positive view of sick kids until speaking to friends who have worked there. Not including PhD students, the full time staff's research at sick kids is embarrassingly inefficient. Nobody seems to actually care about conducting quality research or getting anything done but just wants to get grants/donations and collect their paycheque. It's a toxic work environment full of condescension and lacking mutual respect. How it has the reputation it does is beyond me. Also, it's 2023. Pay your interns. It's unacceptable to expect a doctor, dietitian, or nursing student to work for free when they need to pay for food and shelter. This is a massive barrier for students.

DONORS BEWARE!! They're extremely resourceful to get your donation, but when you request to stop monthly donorship it does not happen as promised. Made a $25 donation but was told that we had to sign up for the monthly plan and then you could cancel. Called immediately, received a confirmation number and was told that it would be cancelled. Six months later we noticed that we were still being charged. Forced to put a stop payment on our credit card and will wait for reimbursement.

Stayed here overnight for several days a couple times for a friend’s surgery (he is an adult but had been going to sickkids his whole life and was finishing up his care with some final procedures here). Overall good experience, nurses are all kind and patient, with some really going above and beyond. There are some doctors who really don’t have the people skills necessary to work in healthcare, or at least face to face with patients, let alone with children unfortunately. Empathy, patience, and respect are 3 things you would want from all healthcare professionals! Unfortunately one of the anesthesiologist fellows and a surgeon who used to work there were not very empathetic or patient. But this doesn’t quite overshadow the overwhelmingly positive experiences we had with the nurses and all other doctors, or the skills of the doctors in general! It does not go unnoticed when a healthcare professional is patient and empathetic, though (and vice versa). Food is alright, actually pretty good number of options for a hospital! and the beds in the overnight rooms / observation rooms aren’t the most comfy… but that is to be expected.

I want to preface this by saying that I have no ill will against the SickKids Foundation or SickKids Hospital, because they are doing very important work for children in our country. However, I ran into some of their volunteers at a booth set up in the lounge at Billy Bishop Airport in Toronto. When it came to the part of their pitch when they asked for donations. I offered them some spare change of a few dollars I had in my wallet, but they refused saying they didn't take one-time donations of less than $50 or so. Furthermore, when I said i couldn't commit to a monthly donation, they decided to ask me if "there was a reason," as if my word wasn't enough or as if I somehow owed them anytime at all. I'm not going to blame these volunteers for the donation policies and I get that being persuasive is part of the job, but I was appalled at their complete lack of tact. The children at SickKids deserve donations, but this is absolutely not the way to do it.

90% of the reviews here are for the HOSPITAL when this listing is for the hospital FOUNDATION. Apparently most people don't seem to grasp the difference. As for the FOUNDATION: They, and the hospital through them, have more money than they know what to do with. They literally use "sick kids," and the idea of them, to guilt people into giving more money to their already overflowing coffers. They receive HUGE amounts of money from the government, major corporate donors, staff, patients, the general public. How about this? If you want to help "sick kids" first think of your own local hospital, which also likely treats MANY of them ... and without all the donations, attention, and applause. I've seen billboards around my own area that say "Last year more than 3,000 children from your area were treated at Sick Kids." Really? I don't doubt it ... but it begs the question WHY are they being treated at Sick Kids (The Hospital for Sick Children) rather than monies being PROPERLY directed to treat them locally ... or at least a heck of a lot closer than Toronto? And not just Toronto ... but the very heart of ... the most inconvenient to get to part of downtown Toronto. If THREE THOUSAND local kids had to travel to downtown Toronto every year for assessment, treatment and follow-up, then there's plenty enough patient volume (57 patients/week) to have some services provided locally (or at least closer). There's a total population of more than a million people in this and the neighboring region ... frankly, we should have our OWN children's hospital, or at least a satellite of an existing one. Why should THOUSANDS of children and families have to travel all that way for care and services that they COULD and SHOULD be getting in, say, Barrie, Oshawa, Peterborough? How about rather than 200+ families from Oshawa area have to travel to Sick Kids every month ... a doctors and nurses from Sick Kids come to Oshawa to hold monthly clinics and even perform treatments and some surgeries? You know ... yadda yadda carbon emissions (all those polluting cars travelling to Sick Kids) and all that everyone says they are so concerned about today. Or, better still, MOVE a lot of downtown Toronto hospital/healthcare resources OUT of downtown to where the patients are located. Maybe it's about time a few people from Toronto were the ones that had to travel elsewhere for services on occasion, rather than everyone else always having to travel to Toronto.

Very poorly organized and poorly managed charity. DONORS BEWARE!! They're extremely quick to get your donation, but when you request to stop monthly donorship it does not happen as promised. And it takes months and months to process your refund that they were not supposed to have charged you in the first place. Also they do not mail your tax receipts at the beginning of the year.

Worst place to be all the nurses and doctors don't communicate. Most of the time doctors are guessing whats wrong. The front door screening a joke have kid volunteers barking out demands for people to follow then later see the employees do same thing and nothing said. Mask are a joke.

My kid came to last week and wait for 9hrs in emergency. And we required X-ray and blood work for my kid. She already got 8days high fever, and they said was just flu, didn’t do anything for her. Now, we stay in the nygh, she got really heave pneumonia and effusion. She is so sick now, really dangerous. She missed right time to do treatment on her in sickkid. We are so disappointed, our family and friends donated over 20k$ per year, they didn’t do anything.

The guys are doing great job but it's a shame that in Canada people are collecting donations for sick kids!!! What the hell the government is doing with my tax money??? The first priority I have for my taxes are to be spent on sick kids in Canada!!!!! Wake up!!!! Do not send even one penny overseas while there are sick kids in Canada who needs help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amazing hospital, outstanding staff. Hopefully you don’t need to take your kid there but if you do just think they are in the best health care facility.

They wouldn't let me make a one time contribution of $30. They said I HAD to contribute every month! I called to see why, and they never bothered to call me back. I guess my $30 would not help.

In 17 years we've never had a negative experience in any of the 5 different specialty departments we've attended. Child Life Specialists work miracles with kids who have have anxiety and/or a million questions about their upcoming procedures that are new to them. Doctors take the time to thoroughly explain things to the patient and their families, and they explain it all in layman's terms, not medical speak. To say that this is a special place, that the staff is extraordinary doesn't begin to do it justice.

Amazing place. We were lucky to be treated at this hospital. All the staff was nice and knowledgeable. The care and treatment is at the heights level. My daughter felt like she was in a 5star hotel.

My son had surgery here 6 years ago when he was 7 months old. Obviously, a stressful time. The doctor who performed the surgery is world renowned, the nurses, support staff and volunteers made the experience exceptional.

Exceptional staff, and they really treat you like people rather than cattle. Amazing care and make kids and parents as comfortable as they can. I wish I was extremely rich so I could donate a considerable amount.

Charged me twice on donation, then somehow got a call from collection department/agency when stopped one… Also felt they use politically correctness as tactic…

We have been going with our son to Sick Kids Hospital since the year he was born (2005). He had multiply surgeries, ER visits, tests, exams, procedures, clinic appointments and hospital stays. I have nothing but praise, sincere thanks and gratitude towards all the staff including the medical team, doctors, nurses, lab technicians, volunteers and financial donors who make up the Sick Kids Team. My son is transitioning to adult hospital soon and I know they will continue to be top ranking children's hospital in the world
