had to call 911 in the middle of the night!!!! This is nothing but a shady business with some modern looking pictures slapped onto a website to mislead customers. Their integrity and their customer service is awful. Someone tried to break into my room during my stay. For the price of staying at a Marriott with an experience so bad I’ve had nothing to match it. Do not stay here for your own safety it’s not worth it. I spent a good to amount of my vacation time filing a police report, finding new accommodations because I felt unsafe in the middle of the night. More unbelievable, the management denied minimized my experience saying that a break in has never happened before, that it was simply another guest. Denying that their phone and email service WAS online at that time! Even though I tried calling before 911 multiple times! I mean who makes this up? They take no responsibly, and no empathy. They didn’t even offer compensate the price (not even partially) even with me leaving early our of fear. They told me if I want my money back I should contact a lawyer…wow. I was treated like $$$s and not a person. Horrible. Horrible. Horrible.

It's just OK. For the price it's really not a good deal. The beds are flimsy and you'll feel every movement of your bunk mate. The vibe is pretty dead. Bathrooms are not very clean. It does the job for a bed in a great location, but don't expect the same hostel experience you'd find in countries outside of North America. Staff were nice enough.

I stayed here for one night and here are some of my observations based on previous reviews: Rooms, showers, and bathrooms were clean and sheets were clearly washed and changed before I arrived. There are lockers in the rooms to store valuables. The beds are creaky and make noise with every movement. I luckily didn't have a bunk mate above me but if I did I can imagine it would have been hard to sleep. The mattress is hard and quite uncomfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful! Overall nice environment and in a great location with lots to do in the area and easy access to public transit to explore the city. I felt safe walking alone in the neighbourhood at night. Common areas: good mix of social/quiet and chill so I was able to get some work done in the evening. There is a water filter station with hot and cold water to refill your bottles and wifi works great! Breakfast was pretty standard - coffee/tea, bagels, and cereal. I really appreciated that they had dairy-free milk! Overall it was good for a night but I don't think I'd stay longer given the beds and the price!

Well we needed an affordable place to stay so we chose this one because we didn't find any cheaper. We paid over 200$ for a private room and for that money you would expect something more than a room, so to say. The room was cold because nobody had turned on the heating element. The noisy toilet outside our room woke us up several times and the service in general at the place was rather rude. The breakfast was okay with some waffles, bagels and cereals. The location was the best part, as the hotel is close to a cool neighborhood.

The location is very cool and the staff are very friendly. The dorms are SUPER cramped and poorly ventilated. Also the bunk beds have very rickety metal frames from Ikea so every time someone moves at all it makes a fairly loud noise. Unfortunately, I had several articles of clothing stolen. I was told by the front desk and the manager that the way to claim a bed in a dorm (the beds aren't assigned for some reason) is to "leave a sweater" or some other article of clothing on the bed. That's what was taken. And yet, despite me following their advice and losing my pyjamas that I left on the bed FOLLOWING THEIR advice they don't see how they are even partly responsible for what was taken. No recompense of any kind was offered, when I asked for "part of my stay" to be refunded as compensation they said that was "not realistic". The manager did helpfully remind me that I am an adult however 🤦🏻‍♂️. It doesn't seem right for them to try to have it both ways to tell people to leave an item on the bed and tell them they should have locked it up. Obvious solution here is to assign beds (people can inspect the room and pick first if need be), and be consistent in telling everyone to lock up everything. A token refund of a small amount of my stay would recognize the shared responsibility for the stolen items.

The hostel itself is very nice, clean and comfortable. Bonuses are the breakfast and free towels. The staff was very nice. I went to Centre Island day trip with the staff and to the pub crawl the day following - both were very fun and the staff members accompanying the trips were nice and fun. The only problem was the location, unfortunately; the hostel is in an area of homeless people. Not too pleasant at night.

If you are a young backpacker—especially if you are are young backpacker who likes to party: you might enjoy this place, But for me, a middle aged person with asthma who arrived after a 14 hour transpacific flight to attend an academic conference, it was a disaster. I expected some sort of hotel; that it is a hostel was not made clear on booking.com. 1) the location is great in some ways… close to downtown, to universities, to great cafes… …but…it is a party street. The stench of cigarettes and pot is inescapable. It is so noisy as to make it impossible to sleep. On Saturday, deafening bar chatter till 3-4 am. Motorcycles roaring through. Drug addicts congregating at the corner and talking very very loudly. 2) the single room does not lock from the inside. Nor the balcony. Did have a beautiful view, though. 3) a staff member opened the door while I was inside, without even knocking. 4) the hotel has a no smoking policy, which I assume extends to weed. Not enforced. Smoke pours in through the balcony, and fills the hall. 5) if you have luggage, beware: no elevator. 6) I’ve been in shared-bathroom facilities where the bathrooms and shower rooms felt safe — in NYc, and with a lower nightly fee… This did not feel safe. The bathroom was derelict. 7) there is not even a washbasin in the room. There are no cups, 8) the tv did not work, or had no instructions. Nor the air—con. 9) no attempt was made to consistently enforce covid protocols. Staff went massless, as did guests… 10) each floor had a locking door… but guests—one hopes, guests —circumvented it again and again by putting a wad of toilet paper in the indentation on the faceplate.. 11) LGBQt friendly, yes; would an LGBQt person feel safe? there were no private, non gendered bathrooms… 12) one morning, as I left the building, there was a fire truck and police cars. Someone had apparently set a box of pigeons on fires. 13) while they do put tags on your bags when stowing them before check in, they don’t give you a receipt or even remove the tags. So basically, if you are into the crazy young backpacking scene, this is the place for you. If you can’t afford more, then, well.. it is what it is. If you rest, quiet, cleanliness, fresh air, safety matters to you, but you think you might save a bit, then: AVOID. Find a real hotel. Or AirBNB.

My husband I booked a three night stay. The day prior to check-in we reached out to cancel and were told our stay was non refundable. Their website cancellation policy states: “We have a 24-hour cancellation policy. Please let us know by 3pm the day before your arrival if you need to change or cancel your booking. If you do not cancel within this window, you will be charged for a same-day cancellation and the rest of your reservation will be cancelled free of charge.” Clearly not the case as I emailed several people and were just told it was non refundable over and over again. The best part is that they did cancel our stay so that they could have the private room available for someone else to book, but didn’t even offer a partial refund.

I needed an affordable place to stay last-minute that wasn’t the airport; so I got that. Paid around $90 for a room to share with 5 other people; bunkbeds were very creaky but I was able to sleep okay. Washrooms and showers accessible on each floor. Staff was very friendly and helpful, and free breakfast in the morning, pretty decent; bagels, waffles, coffee, cereals, and fruits with various spreads. Breakfast is from 8-10am.

The rooms are tiny. But that's expected. You get what you pay for. If you are lucky enough to have good room mates then you will enjoy your stay. Wrong ones can make it worse. The bathroom and toilets are not that great. They require regular attention. Wifi quality is ok. Location is great. The street on which this hostel is, is amazing. Front desk is helpful. I wish the private rooms also have people private toilets. And the shared bathroom and toilets had more hangers. If you are looking for a cheap place to stay a few nights, and don't mind sharing your space, this is a good option.

Nice stay! Really good despite my initial feelings about hostels. 2nd floor male shower clean and comparable to a recreational gym. Lockers (bring your own lock) in the rooms were available in room. Rooms were in fact stuffy and a little small but I didn’t mind, only 4 out of 6 occupancy when I stayed. Tram line across street connects to subway. Location was absolutely perfect in the heart of Kensington market. Wifi works but disconnects often. Decent breakfast, make sure to grab their packaged waffles! (Their not plain but has a nice sugary coating)

$160 to share a bathroom with everyone on your floor and listen to the Taco Taco blasting music all night long. Despite having a heater, the room was freezing. Absolutely no insulation or sound proofing to speak of. You will hear EVERYONE'S business. Not accessible if you have a physical disability as there is no elevator. Says LGBTQ+ friendly but all washrooms are strictly gendered. Room was clean, women's bathroom was clean. Pigeons on the balcony were cute, and staff were friendly. Good location and a satisfactory breakfast. If you plan on sleeping here, bring ear plugs.

Not a hostel that’s staying on my repeat list. Needed a lower bunk due to an arm injury, which I had communicated to the hostel when booking. Was told a lower bunk would be reserved for me. What I was assigned to felt like it was done out of spite. 3rd floor upper bunk, with no elevator or offer of assistance to get my suitcase up the steep stairs. When I asked for a different room/bunk, I was told there wasn’t anything that could be done. The bunk felt like it was made of toothpicks and that I was going to fall off the ladder or collapse down to my lower bunk mate. Furthermore, the room became very stuffy and warm overnight, as there was no airflow whatsoever in the room. Some white noise would’ve been appreciated. This was far from my first hostel experience, but for such a high price, I expected far better accommodations.

Really liked this hostel but this very subjective. It is built more like a budget hotel (i stayed in a mixed dorm), very close to the Crissy Field - Fishermans Wharf area of the map of SF and had great privacy curtains and facilities. Alternative in the same budget might be more amenable to the more classic hostel stay. The kitchen is small and for storage not prep, it also has late luggage storage and is in a relatively quiet neighbourhood (but pretty close to the piers and sea in general). For me the privacy of the rooms worked well.

Staff were super nice, kind and helpful but the rooms and hygiene were lacking hard. For the price and how it was advertised it did not worth it at all. Room was as small as it could get and the biggest downfall was the bathrooms and showers were shared on each floor which was not advertised onlinr properly. Women and mens bathroom / shower were separated but it did not seem that it was respected by Men.

Friendly staff 24hrs at reception and they have a luggage locker. In the outdoor patio you’ll experience interesting people watching in the great location of Kensington. The entrance, both buildings, each floor and each dorm are secured with key entry while the gendered washrooms and showers are open, there is also a gated exit and an additional emergency exit. Breakfast is from 8-10 and was sufficient with coffee, juice, bananas, oranges, cereal and bagels. They offer daily activities including a Pub Crawl every Friday. I shared a 4-bunk female dorm and everyone’s space and property was respected but bring your own padlock if you aren’t okay with keeping anything out. I loved the bunk curtains at this hostel! They were private and dark but open air. The doors and walls are thin and you can hear everything on your floor and the bunks are very creaky so bring ear plugs if you’re a light sleeper! Bonus: cute puppy in the reception!

Got a private room with a friend for 2 nights. It was on the 4th floor with no elevator. The room smelled of old smoke and we had to open the balcony door to get rid of it during our entire stay. Bathrooms could’ve had at least paper towels but everything was a hand dryer which makes brushing teeth, etc inconvenience. Overall cleanliness was 4/5. Breakfast was good- cereal bagels etc. Front desk staff were very nice. It would be hard to find a better location for the price of a stay in Toronto!

Perfect for young travellers the staff is very friendly and everything is comfortable. I got bitten by quite a few mosquitoes or something but small price to pay to be honest. Was very quiet during my stay (end of May) can imagine it’s a little more cramped if very busy but there’s plenty of shared spaces to get away.

Reception was great to chat to and very helpful. A terrific location but the hostel was pretty rundown and the cleaning left something to be desired. My top bunk shelf was covered in crumbs and the ladies wash rooms would benefit with a bunch of hooks or shelves especially given the floors weren't that clean. Did the job for my one night stay and definitely love the neighbourhood.

I guess, google represents real reviews, not booking. First of all, impossible to sleep at the hostel, loud music and screaming people outside. No privacy in the toilet. Most of the staff members had no interest in working at this place. Breakfast, was rather weird, on one of the days lady decided to create her way of serving breakfast with putting food on one of the tables in the middle, so it was accessible to people sitting by the table, but not to the rest of guests, she was also quite mean and had her favourite guests to whom she was giving food directly, very weird... You have to come early as food disappears vey quickly. From the pluses, not far from the city centre and if you walk around the hood you can find nice restaurants and laundry is just in front. Overall I do not recommend this place, just look for some other place and save your nerves and money.

Samesun Toronto is a hostel, and you should not expect hotel conditions. However, it has more than everything regular hostels have, like shower supplies in the shower area and a very good quality, varied breakfast, with the ingredients provided by the hostel. The staff was extremely helpful with everything I needed. I was overall very satisfied with my stay and I felt safe all the time.

I stayed in a 6-bed women only room. It was great! The bed was comfy, the hotel was calm and quiet, there were nice communal places to chill. The location of the hostel is great, close to lots of shopping and good options, easily accessible by public transportation. The only thing missing was AC.

After readying many negative comments I wasn’t sure about this place. Now at the end of my stay I can say that the rooms/washrooms were clean and the staff was very helpful. The breakfast has boiled & scrambled eggs, juice, coffee, tea, bread, bagel, waffle jams, butter, peanut butter and syrup. Location is amazing.

Great place to stay while visiting! The location is prime - in the middle of everything in downtown Toronto. And next to some of the best food in the city. The staff is great and knowledgable. Check-in was a breeze. Rooms, washrooms, showers, etc. were all clean and comfortable. Dining and lounge area were as well. Wifi was fast and reliable. Complimentary breakfast is also available. Would highly recommend to those visiting Toronto that want an immersive city experience. Will be visiting Samesun again.

It is misleading to say that private rooms are offered. In this “private room”, you get a bed, a TV, and thats it. You have to share a toilet and showers with everyone else on the floor. The walls aren’t good at canceling out noise either, so you’ll often by woken up by people loudly slamming doors. At the end of the stay, you have to carry your own bedding downstairs and put it in a big bucket. Way too expensive ($170+/ night) for so little. Below is a photo of the room after I stripped my bed at the end of my stay.

Easily accessible location, about 10-20 minutes from central Toronto using public transport and took less than an hour to arrive here from the airport. Felt safe walking around the area and there are plenty of shops and food vendors surrounding. Opposite hostel is a 24 hour supermarket with good prices. Friendly and useful staff, clean rooms, toilets and showers, good social areas - would definitely stay here again.

Great location, and great value. People at the front desk were all genuinely amazing, with both answering any questions and giving detailed instructions. Hostel washrooms were very clean, but my bed personally had some form of crumbs and don't think it was checked thoroughly. My 4 other friends had no issues with their bed, though. All in all, for price, location, and cleanliness, it is an ideal place to stay.

As a hostel is it pretty decent for its rooms, was in a double bed room which is clean and warm, not stuffy as i got a balcony area. Front desk is friendly and helpful, guide me to the luggage storage on UG and pointed me to my room. I believe the staff did pay lots of attention on the hygiene, the blankets pillows smelled detergent, no dusk on the desk and floor looks cleaned. The only issue is the hygiene in common areas which is uncontrollable. The sink is wiped dry and not much dust nor stain but people did spit into the sink and didn't flush them, someone peed in the shower and didn't clean them. I did not dare to use the shower sadly, can only wipe clean with towel of my own. Ps. bit expensive for a hostel of this quality

Room was clean and with an included AC Men Bathroom and Shower was always very clean The location is perfect, it’s near to many public transportation stops and also you can walk to CN tower at least in 25 min. Also is near to a lot of restaurants and bars located at the Augusta st. I fully recommended this place

Secure, tidy, and conveniently located. There are multiple locked waypoints with key card access. The beds have little USB night stand type things installed. The kitchen is really nice and there is a comfortable common room. The staff are friendly and helpful. For the price it is a bit on the higher end for a hostel but for the extra creature comforts and location it is par for the course.

I stayed here due to the awesome location - next to beach and in the middle of weekly farmer's market. Ally at frontdesk was awesome - she reserved a low bunk bed for me when I called before checking in. Place is very clean and that cleaniness is highighted by the fact that at checkin your bed has fresh sheets including fresh pillow cover and fresh mattress cover for you to put on. Kitchen is nice and functional. free Breakfast was awesome and included delicious large grapes, tangerines, etc. The large open air common space was very nice/comfortable/pleasant including a hammock - though I would worry if staying there on a rainy evening since the common space is open air... will definitely stay again

I stayed here for one night over a weekend for a concert (sat-sun). The hostel itself was super nice. Everything was clean, modern, and well taken care of. The amenities are super nice, having breakfast, wifi, and more. The location is also awesome being right in Kensington market. The staff were super nice, accommodating me and my two friends travelling with me, being able to move us all into the same room. It was a little pricier than I would expect for a hostel, although I would say the price is fair. I booked very last minute, and the location, service, dorm, and staff were all great so I was fine with the price. Overall, I’d stay here again.

Nice Hostel. Rooms are small but sufficient. Breakfast is good (you have to wash your own dishes) and the staff is friendly. The price is rather high, which is why I give 4 stars.

  • 2/5 Edu P. 7 months ago on Google
Heavily overpriced. The hostel is almost OK. The bathrooms are not always clean. The bunkbeds are made of cheap metal and do make a lot of sounds, need an upgrade. There was a tiny red light on the outlet of my bed that does disturb my sleep. There is not a great backpacking atmosphere.

  • 4/5 Gajanan T. 8 months ago on Google
Location is nice, lot of options to eat around, near to city. They have limited breakfast, they don't fill the coffee at the time of breakfast, it was empty, even after request they didn't refill it, lot of fellow travellers were disappointed, bathroom and toilet is not clean all the time. I would say overall the location and property is good for solo travellers. Mind some terrible people on the road as it's near to one of the community centre, so lot of drunk people there.

  • 2/5 Frankie G. 7 months ago on Google
The hostel itself is fine but it's severely overpriced for what it is. The rooms are cramped with no AC so it gets very hot at night, and the beds are cheap metal so they creek loudly with any movement, the free breakfast is nice. The area it's in is good, right next to Kensington Market with lots of eateries and bars near by. If the the price was lowered and not that of a hotel I would rate a lot higher but it's just too expensive.

  • 2/5 Angus T. 1 year ago on Google
Overpriced for what you get. The dorm room we stayed in was very cramped. Bathrooms are tiny and not very clean; there were no private bathrooms besides the one in the main lobby. We showed up for free breakfast about 45 minutes before it ended and there was no food in sight. Front desk staff were nice and the location is great.

Stayed here for one night due to flight cancellation by Porter airlines (heavy fog). This was closest to Billy Bishop airport, and the cheapest with breaky included. Hostel rooms were modern and clean. And also close to restaurants and other amenities. Would recommend staying here for a short visit. Staff were very helpful too. Keep up the services guys!

  • 1/5 manuel e. 1 year ago on Google
Would not recommend or stay a second time. There was only 1 bathroom per floor and, logically, it was always dirty. There was only 1 shower per floor also, it did not have soap or shampoo (until my last night), did not have any hooks to hang towel and clothes and the automatic light turned off too quickly so you showered in the dark. Staff was not helpful. Breakfast was almost non-existent and did not get refilled so if you went to eat a bit late, you did not have any left. Hostel es beside a homeless center so the street is almost all the time filled with people drinking. They do not bother other people though.

  • 3/5 C M. 7 months ago on Google
This is the most expensive hostel I’ve ever stayed in, so was expecting a little more. The room was fine enough, but what really sucked is the men’s toilet and shower was literally the other end of the hostel. So every time I needed to use it, it was a really long walk. Then the toilet itself only had 1 urinal, 1 sink and 1 cubicle, for an entire floor of guys. So naturally most the time I went to use it, someone was already in there. Never stayed at a hostel that had such a small toilet facility when it’s going to be used by so many people. The breakfast was good, and the location brilliant.

Very nice place to stay. Clean, friendly and perfect location in the middle of fun-Toronto. Kensington Market, fashion district and even downtown can be reached by foot. I liked the breakfast also. Not fancy, but fresh fruits, plenty of coffee or tea, cereals and milks, waffles and bagels, some spreads... you can even cook your own food. Fridge and pots and pans...

  • 1/5 Fabian M. 1 year ago on Google
Kind staff, but sorry, this is not enough..... Only one bathroom per floor. So, busy or really dirty, and it's not the cleaning lady's fault, with only one bathroom with so many people using it. Really poor rooms, breakfast room to small, dirt and confused. To conclude, ways to expensive. Not recommended at all, there are better stays in Toronto for the same price or even cheaper.

I had a great time here and met some amazing people! I especially recommend taking part in the free tours the hostel offers. It’s a fantastic opportunity to make new friends and the tour guides are so lovely. I joined the pub crawl on my first night there and our guide Jen did such an amazing job that I immediately signed up for her Toronto Island tour. Thank you Jen for this great experience:)

Stayed here for 3 nights on a weekend. Overall, a great spot to stay if you book a private room when traveling alone or are traveling with a group and looking to save a pretty penny with a group room, especially if you don't plan to be in your room much. The location is fantastic if you're touring. Kensington Market is full of food and shops for those looking to buy some trinkets and eat out their whole stay. Samesun provides breakfasts, but don't offer a lot of gluten free options. They had fruit but not much else. The beds are hard and awful after a few days if you're not accustomed to that. Other than that, the rooms and common areas are clean. They provide ear plugs and if you're in a room with a balcony, I highly recommend using them or bringing your own. Experience may vary with other guests but for the most part people mind their own business. Overall, a great spot to stay if you're the type who likes to get out of their comfort zone and explore.

Maybe best value for money in Toronto (as far as I found out) but not clean, dirty restrooms and small dorms. Okay if you are only there for sleeping. But fair price doesn’t have to come with dirty facilities in my opinion.

  • 3/5 Bryan T. 1 year ago on Google
the double bed is flimsy, very shaky when you go to the upper bed. shower doesn't have a dry place nearby to hang your dry clothes to wear after shower. only 1 toilette per floor and it is all the way back, if you are unlucky you can walk up and down back and front without a free toilette. imagine if there is an emergency. also my upper bed is near the ventilator and it was pretty cold at night. if there is renovation in the future, it would be great to fix all these small problems.

First the good things: Wonderful staff, excellent location and tours to the Niagara falls are organized. Free breakfast which was good. Very good atmosphere with most other guests The bad: Busted air conditioner and damaged Terrasse door, small showers with flimsy curtains. The ugly: the gaps in the kitchen table haven't been cleaned but the rest of the kitchen is.

If you are looking for a cheap place to stay in Toronto and don't mind sharing room with others then this is a really good place to stay. The place is clean and well maintained. The neighbourhood is different compared to other parts of Toronto. It has a unique vibe which I personally liked. But at the same time the streets are dirty and might be a bit dangerous at night but I didn’t face anything personally.

I have stayed in many hostels over the years, but this one is the worst. The price is very high for a backpackers/hostel environment. So I had reasonably high expectations. Unfortunately it was a complete let down. The place very dirty and looks like it hasn’t been cleaned for a long time, that includes the kitchen, lounge, and dining areas. Especially the toilets and showers were filthy. The kitchen has no dishwasher, so using any dishes are most likely full of bacteria. No filtered water to drink. The breakfast available for 2 hours (it gets removed at 10am on the dot) is the cheapest bagels with a very limited selection of spreads (peanut butter, strawberry jam, and Philadelphia). However some of those options will disappear as they seem to make less spreads available than there are guests. The rooms have a very flimsy bunk bed that is very noisy and you will feel every movement of your room mates. The bedsheet covers do not appear to get changed between guests (disgusting). No airflow in the rooms makes for a very stuff sleeping experience. The lounge isn’t cosy, doesn’t inspire conversations with guests and gets closed at 9pm. This leads to a very dead vibe in the place and it wasn’t pleasant. Definitely won’t be back ever again.

Room was as pictured, very clean, the balcony was lovely, service at the desk was awesome and friendly! Bed was very comfortable and breakfast was decent. I recommend staying here! Nice price too.
