Mate! What a bloody tasty experience for the mind, soul and mouth! The quality ingredients, the top notch recipes and the perfect atmosphere to take you away from the humble streets of the Netherlands and back into the vibrance and excitement of Latin America. Skip the starters, go for the tacos. That's were the true meaning of happiness comes from in this little canal hugging spot in Leiden. The pulled pork has more depth in taste than you'd expect so be careful to bring your scuba gear ready to go on a flavour dive! While you're down there go on and say g'day to the makreel taco or maybe even two! Outrageously fresh and tangy, with a dash of lime and the homemade pickles, you'll be swimming in good times for days to come. Everything, from start to finish was brilliant. Even the heated seats made life easier when the sun went to visit other places. Thank you making the world a tastier place. We will be back!

We really enjoyed the three course surprise menu at Tabú! Really tasty dishes and also beautifully presented. We got several dishes for every course and we're really surprised how good all the dishes were. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and the location is beautiful too. We spend €100 for a three course meal for two people including drinks.

Best restaurant of my life, no lie. The food is AMAZING, the staff is super nice and patient when it comes to explaining things in English and recommending cocktails and meals. The place is also beautiful, had such a great vibe… thanks for everything ❤️

Spacious outdoor seating, the appetizers are a must. Get the shared platter i appetizer section with side of chilli fries 🌶the chili fries were more special than we expected. The chicken tacos were ok. Service is typical dutch slow style but with the great views ans atmosphere it shouldn't be an issue waiting.

It's really nice inside the decoration and coziness but thats pretty much only thing thats nice. Taste doesn't worth the price and even with a slow eating took me 5-10 min. To finish, weirdly small portions. Waiters don't welcome you or give menus" have to ask". After ordering leaving the menus on a small table. Food got prepared and represented good but instead of what i order i felt like eating just frozen octopus with just rucola and same goes for the steak 0 to no sides and portions under 150 gr. During one single 10 minute meal also its not nice to be asked twice if everything was alright. And we visited during a time where indoors was almost all empty.

Starters were okay, mains very disappointing. The tacos were hard, and the pulled chicken was dry. Sliders were also average. The nachos, padron peppers and chorizo starters were decent though.

It was an enjoyable and memorable place! We had a table at the bar and the experience with the bartender was enjoyable and very interactive! Highly appreciate his effort to entertain us with the knowlegde of making coctails. The food and drinks were really nice. I'm sure someday I'll come back again! Unfortunately I didn't make many pictures that night ;)

One of the best bar restaurants in Leiden. Very cozy place inside. And outdoor sitting looks also very nice. Update: they have a weird approach when there is a group of more than 8 people, then all should take the menu, which we found quite disturbing and unreasonable

A delightful surprise! Who would have thought you’d find such a legit Mexican/South American concept restaurant in little old Leiden of all places?? The decor seems very inspired by the Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) festival with little corners and vignettes featuring skulls and melted wax candles. It’s all done in a relaxed industrial vibe that’s comfortable and not tacky. This restaurant would hold its own even in the meccas of high end cuisine and dining like London, Tokyo and New York. Lots of great things to try on the menu but the tacos are the definite highlight. Don’t forget to try the spiced watermelon. That was one of the best I’ve had and the addition of fried salted capers and feta cheese were perfectly balanced and I had 2 orders all to myself. All in all a great change of pace and a must try when in Leiden.

4 me this should hv been more of a place to have lunch. BCS I was with myself,I think in evenings or so better to go with a group. ( And share dishes with eachother) The Food was amazing really liked it. Portion wise a bit small for a solo traveler, and when you're a bit hungry. The interieur is breathing a Latin vibe.

Really nothing wrong with this restaurant but it was nothing special. Pleasant enough and food is fine. I liked that they have alcohol free beer available.

This review pertains only to the location and cocktails, since we did not eat there. It is a restaurant placed in a gorgeous part of Leiden, where channels connect, so if you're sitting outside on a nice day, you will see a lot of boats passing by. The main terrace is among flowers of the garden and with a nice view, so it's a super pleasant place to be in on a sunny day. The atmosphere inside is cool—the decor is excellent. We sat at the bar and had cocktails there. It's a chill place where you witness your cocktail being made in front of you. Mojitos and Piña coladas were especially excellent.

Tabú is a restaurant with a lively ambience located near the witte singel in Leiden. The decor is festive, with lots of nudges to south american culture. There is music playing in the restaurant, at an appropriate volume. The restaurant is seemlessly divided in 3 areas: when you first enter, there is a boothlike section with multiple tables, followed by a more open living room styled space. Lastly, the upstairs area which feels most like a more formal dining space. Most of the serving staff is young, with Leiden being mainly a student city, but they work professionally and hard. The quality of the food is great, acidity, spices and flavour explosions that you expect from south american cuisine are common here. The drinks menu is also nice with wines, beers, cocktails, non-alcoholic cocktails and juices. The shared menu for 39.50 a person is great value. They are also able to work in more vegetarian options if required. This was much appreciated. All in all we had a great experience and I would definetely recommend visiting Tabú if you are looking for great service, ambience and food.

I have very mixed feelings about this place, I thought the drink was excellent, location beautiful, and atmosphere fantastic. But the pricing of the food with there portions was so lackluster. I grew up eating empanadas but these empanadas were terrible. Too small and the fillings weren't even good. A variation of three different types and I couldn't be bothered with any of those ever again. The meat in the tacos was very tasty, but I thought the tortillas were bad, dried out and felt old to me. I make tortillas quite often, I learned from my mother so I have a higher standard but these were simply bad. Not also to mention the tacos were still very small. It's a shame there aren't more latin food options in the area since this one I found disappointing. I'd reccomend this place more for drinks then food, there drinks were fair priced and excellently made. It also has a great atmosphere for a drink but I can't recommend the food here

Brilliant Mexican with a wide selection of food and drink to choose from. Staff were friendly and happy to answer any questions even though they were very busy. Sitting by the water is simply fantastic and a must on a nice day.

Great spot by the cannal. Best for cocktails and a few things to eat like aperitif. There’s a good and interesting selection of dishes. Would recommend choosing a few dishes to share with friends, since the portions are not that big

We had the special “Dias de los Muertos” sharing menu. Great food and cocktails. Friendly service. Bit on the pricey side.

This place is a vibe, such a cute place! This is a Latin American restaurant right in the centre of Leiden. I wish we had a picture of our cocktails but man, those were amazing! We felt like there was quite some alcohol in our cocktails. Not complaining though😀 Started with some nachos, chilli fries and empanadas platter. Was hesitant to take the nachos because its such a frequent thing we order along with drinks. But these nachos were so different and tasty! I loved the crunchy fries and the chimichurri that came with the empanadas platter. Later, we ordered quesadillas (delicious again😋) and taco con pachamanca pollo. The taco was a miss, mostly because there were too many flavours and some flavours were not going with each other. I felt the menu was a bit limited. Not that there werent enough options, but I was expecting a bit more? In all, definitely a great afternoon lunch with friends. Loved the decor and even the outside seating (maybe sometime soon when the weather is good) Follow @masala_rush for more 👩‍🍳🍲🍕

Had some take-away food and it was super delicious! They checked and packed everything and the food was very good. Especially the corn cobs blew me! Really worth checking it out!

Cocktails are good - the presentation, the quality of the alcohol, the speed of service are up to a high standard. The food was... Ok. The plate of tacos was slightly too spicy for my palate, the meat was nothing special and the presentation was slightly bizarre with only a quarter of a potato. My friend had a beef stew which was a better choice than the meat steak, served with plain rice. The chocolate dessert was also palatable. Overall i would definitely come back for cocktails, but not for food.
