Normally I'd give the temple four stars because I was there for about 15 minutes, but it had the most beautiful cherry blossoms in the temple, and that was what I came to Japan for! So automatic 5 stars from me! There were people here praying, burning incense (fairly potent fragrance) around the area, and I believe tablets which were for loved ones who passed on. The culture preservation is insane and I appreciated how respectful everyone was.

This is an interesting temple that's has a high curiosity factor. From the outside, it has the facade that befits a modern art museum. Fronted by a massive concrete structure topped up with steel roofing, the standing door guardians is actually two modern looking sculptures in cast iron. Quite zen in cold and metallic way. Inside the complex is again a mixture of modern architecture n traditional Japanese temple designs. Unfortunately the main temple complex is covered in metal scaffolding and off limits to all visitors. So have no idea what's it like inside. Personally, I think there's a somewhat dark and melancholic feel to this place, especially with the dark colours and an adjoining cemetery. A simple 3 stars for now. Would like to visit again when the restoration is done.

Another site rich in history and culture. There is no admission cost to enter and it is on the way to Tennoji Park so it is a very nice stop by or just destination in general. I really enjoyed the temples and koi pond areas. Stop by and offer a prayer for another or pray for oneself, take in the sights, sounds, the smell of the incense. Very tranquil place.

We were on our way to Tsutenkaku, I think, and we came across this temple by chance. What stroke us the most was the modern facade with the metal frame and it looked like a modern temple. Then we found out that no, it is indeed an ancient temple and very well thought after by locals. There were plenty of shaded areas and sitting and table areas and we had the feeling that there are people that actually come and spend the day here in contemplation, praying or simply being. There are plenty of things to see, although we couldn't enter the main temple as there was a cerimony in progress and they only let in "true believers" so we watched from afar.

This one is big! Go downstairs to the right after the main entrance and there's an office to get goshuin. The staff helped me find it. There was some memorial going on when I visited so it was very busy. Not sure if it's normally so busy. Fish pond by the information desk with big fishies!

Isshin-ji, located in Osaka, Japan, is a Buddhist temple with a rich history dating back to its founding in 1185. Initially established as a Shingon sect temple, it later adopted Jodo Shinshu teachings, becoming a significant Pure Land Buddhism center. The temple underwent several relocations due to wars and fires before settling in its current location in 1868. Isshin-ji gained prominence in the 20th century under the leadership of Abbot Yamada Koun. Known for its unconventional and socially engaged approach to Buddhism, the temple actively addresses contemporary issues. Notable features include a massive wooden statue of Kannon, the goddess of mercy, and a collection of memorial tablets for deceased pets. Isshin-ji continues to be a spiritual and cultural hub, welcoming visitors seeking a unique blend of tradition and modernity.

One needs to make a reservation for the main temple.

A nice temple with a cemetery in a garden surrounding, giving it a peaceful and grateful feeling.

Beautiful temple. It was quite busy when I was there and still very clean. The goshuin was beautifully calligraphed. The Buddha's are made from cremated remains. Beautiful and a bit unnerving!

Founded in the 12th century, Isshin-ji Temple has a lot of history. What strikes one most is its entrance that is completely unique and modern, unlike other temples within Japan. Constructed out of steel and concrete featuring what can only be described as a modern art sculpture, the gate gives no hint that a temple lies behind. You will see two giant statues guarding the gate, called Nio statues. Once inside, you will be greeted by the main temple and its beautiful architecture. Definitely an eye-opener for us.

It is a nice place, but some people who work there are a bit rude and dismissive. For instance I purchased a candle to put up and when asked what I should write on it I was dismissed. Felt very disrespectful in a place of worship.

Great park to enjoy the natural beauty of Osaka. Definitely worth the visit and a nice spot for a quiet picnic!

A smaller temple than the larger, older nearby temple. However, this one seems more accessible with no rules regarding photography. The cemetary is not to be missed with many ancient headstones.

It's all beautiful but you had to pay to enter the center. You go through it all quite fast too. It's worth checking out if your nearby

It should be a grand and magnificent temple but when I was there, most part was closed for renovation. But I'm very sure it is a very popular temple in Osaka judging from the crowd.

Beautiful temple, with a proud and serious history. The Temple itself is interesting, well kept and has a serene atmosphere, if you go early and beat the crowds. For people getting Goshuin (temple stamps) you can get one here, but it did take a minute to find. All and all, the history of this temple makes it a necessary stop for people who enjoy learning or seeing unique temples or landmarks.

Interesting place especially on an Sunday when everyone is here paying their respects. You will be smoked out with incense but it’s still a beautiful place and includes some unique aspects like giant nude sculptures guarding the entrance, graveyard and wall of beautiful flower offerings
