My partner and I had a really terrible experience at the SKVH just this morning. Our two dogs got into a porcupine and had quills in their mouth that we could not remove without help. Being a Sunday morning, our local vet was not an option and we called around the Ottawa area to find an emergency clinic that could help. None of the 24/7 hospitals could take us as they were already backed up, but we were told to wait until 8am and try SKVH, which we did. I must have been one of their first calls of the day as they told us they could get us in at 930am, so we left immediately as we live over an hour away. Upon our arrival we were put in a treatment room where there were someone else's vet records on the shelf and what appeared to be used needles. This was our first red flag. The next red flag was all of the signage around the room about why they take deposits prior to treatment and why they don't accept certain forms of payment, as well as how fair their rates are and how ethical they are. We waited for the vet to arrive to check our dogs. He spent approximately 5-10minutes in the room, where he told us that they had cleared the remainder of the day for both surgeries. He then checked both dogs heart rates and went to make us an estimate for the removals. We felt slightly uncomfortable because he had just told us they had cleared the day, but patients continued to come in and be taken into exam rooms across the hall. It felt like they were trying to get as much business in before us as possible. They quoted us a total of $4100 between the two dogs. $1999 for one and $2100 for the other. Why one was $100 more than the other seemed odd, as you can see in their records they are very similar in weight, only 1kg difference between the two. They also had quills in the same area of the mouth. We were baffled at the estimates and felt that we were getting robbed because of our desperate situation. We considered our options and decided to ask for pain medication for both dogs only and leave it at that. We would remove as many quills as we could ourselves and take them in to our local vet first thing Monday morning. Upon checking out, we were met with a $600 bill. They charged us $75 for a weeks worth of meloxicam for each dog and $195 for each "consultation" which was 5-10minutes of the vet's time. In summary, for $600 we received no advice on any other options and were sent home with meloxicam for each dog which we later learned from another vet wouldn't necessarily even help. For added context, our local vet has provided us emergency services in the past where our dog was sedated, stitched up, monitored at the clinic for a full day and we were sent home with pain and anti-inflammatory medication for a total of $700. I feel that customers should be aware of this experience because had we known ahead of time, we would not have driven an hour and a half each way just to be taken advantage of.

Let me begin by saying that this is the first negative review that I have submitted. I believe that all businesses and people have “off days” from time to time and I always take that into consideration before sharing feedback. Especially negative feedback. I wanted to wait some time before writing this review in order for the review to be logical and not emotional. This review is not a reflection of the supporting staff but it is directed at the owner(s)/management and the physical establishment itself. My wife and I had been using Stittsville Kanata Vetrinary Hospital for a few years. It was mostly for vaccinations, prescriptions and for when our dog was not feeling well. In this case, we brought our senior dog (16 years) to the vet to get an assessment on his general health. Naturally, at his age, he was starting to have mobility and cognitive issues. We have had many pets over the last 5 decades so we knew the end was near. The vet examined our dog and we agreed that it was time to say goodbye. It’s always heartbreaking to go through this process but after 5 decades of adopting animals, we were no stranger to the process. We were left in the examining room to say goodbye to our pup. It took forever for someone to come back to the point where I had to track someone down and ask them to please proceed with the euthanasia as the dog was very frightened and shaking. It was also very hard for my wife and I. Someone finally came and gave our dog a tranquilizer (hydro) and then left. The dog started throwing up and feeling very I’ll. We unfortunately have been through this process many times and this has never happened. We were not warned that this may happen. Once again, we were left waiting and waiting while our poor dog suffered. We were cleaning him and the floor as we waited. I went to try and find someone to make sure the dog wasn’t suffering. An assistant came and said that it was normal. I have never seen this in 50 years of pet ownership. She said the vet would be in shortly. I asked that they please hurry. I then asked where the washroom was and was told there was no washroom and I had to go 4 doors down to a Subway! I ran down the strip mall to the Subway as I had left my wife with our dog and I needed to be with her before the final injection was made. I bought a drink at Subway as I felt awkward just using their bathroom and running out. By the time I returned, there was still no vet in sight. I went out and tracked down the vet and told him this has to be done now, right now as the dog as well as my wife were extremely anxious. He euthanized our pet and that was it. We had to pay before the euthanasia and we were shown an invoice of $770.00 with tax. This was just for the euthanasia, no other pet service whatsoever. I knew it was way, way too expensive as my daughter just went through this a week ago somewhere else. A simple Google search confirmed it after we left the vet. What was I suppose to do? Argue about he cost as my dog lay there suffering and my wife was in tears? Terrible, absolutely terrible. It’s never easy saying goodbye to a pet that meant so much to our family which is why I waited before writing this feedback. It was the worst experience we have ever gone through when dealing with saying goodbye to a pet. Knowing that the dog didn’t go peacefully is the worst part. As far as the vet, he was kind and respectful. Management however needs to address the lack of washrooms for patients and staff. It’s unacceptable to ask grieving pet owners to run to a Subway while they are saying goodbye to their pets.

Dr Mengi and his team saved our pug Lily's life on Sunday when she developed an acute bladder obstruction. Everyone from the receptionist, to the vet techs, to Dr Mengi were fantastic 100% of the time. Thank you.

If I could put a 0-star review, I would. Update: Following this review the owner called me from a private number, threatening to sue me in court if I do not remove this review. This is unacceptable behaviour for any business. According to Article 19, I have the freedom of speech. I am still struggling to put into words the distressing and mentally abusive first encounter I had at Stittsville Kanata Veterinary Hospital. I left shaken up, stressed and felt abused mentally. Not to mention humiliated in front of other customers. The level of disrespect and lack of professionalism I encountered was absolutely appalling. I have been to many other veterinarians before and never experienced such horrible service in my lifetime. I called in and was given an appointment for non-emergency. The issue was clarified to not be of urgent care. When I got the bill, I was horrified to see a higher charge for an "emergency visit." When I confronted them about it, I was met with patronizing remarks suggesting that I was wrong for not understanding their "unusual" form system. They had the audacity to try and charge me extra for them, not explaining things clearly to their potential clients on the phone! or even in person. They also managed to treat me like a clueless child, despite the fact that I am a grown adult and, more importantly, the paying client. From the get-go, the manager behavior was belittling and condescending. Instead of addressing me as the client and acknowledging my concerns, she repeatedly asked to speak with my parents once confronted, as if I couldn't possibly handle the situation on my own as a grown adult 20+. This level of disrespect and disregard for my autonomy was downright infuriating. I may be an immigrant, but I deserve to be treated with respect just like any other customer and not discriminated against. The way they attempted to upsell various unnecessary tests and treatments was beyond frustrating. It was clear that their primary goal was to extract as much money from me as possible, rather than actually caring for my pet's well-being. The prices they quoted for these additional services were so outrageous that I couldn't help but feel like I was being scammed. I was given an "optional" and yet extremely expensive invoice just to confirm a small issue. I was told that we have to do all those random tests just because, why not? My pet did not have any serious symptoms enough to warrant such a barrage of a bill. Not only did this place display an utter lack of professionalism with their vet barely checking my pet while constantly tending to other customers instead during my appointment time, suggesting how unimportant I and my pet are to them. Even timing my pet care to a one week max "free consultation", not allowing my pet time enough time to heal and be watched by a professional. As the one footing the bill for their services, I expected to be treated with at least a modicum of respect. However, it was quite the opposite. The manager seemed to intentionally ignore me, brushing off my questions and concerns, and making me feel like my presence was an inconvenience to her. The manager was constantly telling me that I was wrong and "do not understand" even though I made myself very clear. In conclusion, my encounter was nothing short of a disaster. Their manager rude behavior and condescending attitude, awful vet service, and insatiable greed make them a prime example of what a veterinary clinic should never be. Save yourself the headache and heartache by seeking care for your pets elsewhere. I will never set foot in this pet hospital ever again. Their comment on this honest review does more than prove their disrespectful behavior towards their clients. Badmouthing clients is all they do in their clinic as well as lying. I paid for everything, and my pet was in distress only from the long wait for their bad lack of service. Mentally attacking clients with the help of friends does not look right for a valid business. They lost a customer, and hopefully, you will not suffer the same fate as I did.

Absolutely fantastic service. They took my cat in as an emergency because all the vets near me were closed or full. They treated my cat with tenderness and compassion. They were fast to respond to my concerns and extremely professional. I would recommend them to anyone that needs a vet. Mabelle and I are extremely grateful for all of you. Thank you again so so much.

My experience from start to finish was amazing the staff was very warm and professional , I was able to get an emergency appointment in the same day for my dog, and it was easy to get in touch with the staff and the doctor whenever I had a question.plus points for their texting service, I could send updates or pictures any time of day! Dr.Mengi took the time to explain everything clearly. Great experience and service over all 10/10

I love this veterinary hospital! The staff are super friendly and great with animals. Which I know that should be a prerequisite for the job but I've been to some other locations in Ottawa and this wasn't the case. My dog wasn't eating or drinking and was also throwing up and had Diarrhea. The team was so good with her and took all the right steps to narrowing down the cause and helping her get better. Thank you!

I have been bringing my dog Pearl, and previously my senior dog Izzie (prior to her passing) to SKVH for a few years. Service is always impeccable, especially during the pandemic, and the standard of care is extremely high. I trust the the vets are provided excellent care and are very grateful to them!

Just moved to the area and inquired about bringing my cat to this hospital. I choose to elsewhere after reading the reviews. Reviews are clearly mostly great since they have 4.6 rating, and the negative reviews are really just arbitrary complaints and money disagreements which happens at every clinic. Wouldn't have thought twice about going here if it weren't for the the clinics responses to each negative review. The manager was antagonizing, accusatory, and extremely unprofessional. If this is how the clinic handles conflict resolution I don't want to be a client because conflicts and misunderstandings happen to everyone so I want to go somewhere I can trust will work with me to resolve it instead. Aside from that text response time was poor for a clinic that only offers text communication, but being new to the area I don’t know the vet:pet ratio and if that’s to be expected from every hospital.

We had taken our 5 month Yorkie puppy to the hospital as we need a doctor's opinion . Our regular vet hospital was closed and we needed to check at an emergency on a Sunday. We found Dr Asif to be kind and gentle with our puppy. He also educated us on what is liver shunt - i remember him drawing the internal system of a canine body to show what liver shunt really meant. I found the receptionist to be engaging and really cared . Overall, our first experience has been great - I also got a text message from the hospital to enquire how our puppy was doing - This is unheard of as my regular Vet does not follow up - may be I should change the vet hospital i go to

This was the absolute best, most professional, caring and attentive vet hospital I’ve been to. I cannot stress enough how patient, kind and knowledgeable the staff was they took care of my dog Coco really well and I’m extremely grateful for them. It will be the only vet Hospital I will go to even if it’s far from Gatineau, I wouldn’t go anywhere else. Thank you so much for your everything you did to Coco.

Our golden needed emergency surgery while my husband and I were on holidays. The team at SKVH were kind and compassionate with our sons during this very stressful time. They explained each step of the intake process and the risks involved with the surgery. When we had questions about the healing process, they responded immediately, giving advice and booking a follow up right away. Our handsome boy is on the mend thanks to the team! We would highly recommend SKVH for the care of your pets.

Update- This veterinary clinic is unorganized, they did not even send the test results to my cat's vet for follow up. I need to take my cat back in because he is still so sick and now my cat's vet does not have the info from the emergency clinic! (Who are closed today) The clinic can take the time to respond to reviews when they are closed, but can't do something as simple as making sure the results get sent to a pet's regular vet. The employees here may be pleasant, but in my opinion, they are NOT competent and just out for your money! The vet appeared to be very pleasant. All of the staff appeared to be very pleasant! When they were treating our cat, we felt he was in good hands! Now we feel that this clinic is just in it for the money! We brought our cat in on a Sunday because he was vomiting and had not pooped in almost 3 days. We were charged $600 more then what we were quoted (just something to watch for!) We didn't mind paying the $2,340, because I just wanted to see my cat get better! My cat is still sick following the expensive treatments they did at the vet and the medications they gave him. We also were charged for and sent home with 2 medications that we were happy to pay for (if they had helped him) unfortunately the medications only seemed to make my cat sicker! I attempted to contact them today to ask if they could possibly look at the results of his tests again as the x-rays alone were over $900. They said that I would need to bring him back in and when I asked about a free consultation, because I had already paid so much and my cat was no better they said, and I quote "we are unable to offer any discounts." Can you imagine. They ran expensive tests to find the problem and still I have no idea what is wrong with my cat. I will go to the other Emergency Vet hospital from now on.

Being able to take my dog Charlie, to SKVH is so appreciated. I had a different vet, very nice people, but twice they told me to take my injured dog to Ottawa because they couldn't see him for three weeks. I'm talking about a very severe deep gash to his paw which required surgery. A call to SKVH and they took him the same day. So, I will travel the 90 kms to Stittsville vet as long as I possibly can. They have been so helpful, professional and caring. I just can't say thank you enough for their care.

My cat was seen in a timely fashion and diagnostics were recommended. However, I would have appreciated more clarity on the tests. It was clear that the vet had a very good idea what was wrong at the beginning and could have recommended just that specific blood test instead of charging us for several unnecessary tests. We spent hundreds more than we wanted to. A bit more honestly from the vet with a bit more clarity of actual needs vs. financial gain would have been greatly appreciated. In the future I would likely not agree to any of the tests and simply go with the vet's 'best guess' and professional recommendation rather than agree to multiple tests. I feel that was a bit of a money grab and not really fair. The treatment plan was entirely appropriate but I suspect that could have done that from the start. I don't think the vet had any doubts about the diagnosis but he allowed us to proceed with very expensive tests anyway.
