Mud Lake is nestled in the middle of a mix of old style cottage type and estate homes as well as urban development apartments. I like the wooded areas that surrounds Mud Lake as they provide a peaceful environment to relax and breathe in nature. In the winter time it is possible to venture onto the lake and go skating, cross country skiing or just enjoy a nice hike. The trails are flat and very easy to follow so you won't need to worry about getting lost or losing your kids. There are lots of birds and squirrels that are so familiar with people that you can feed them by hand, so bring some grain and give it a try. Also look at the life cycle of the woods, listen to the woodpeckers and the view the interesting rock formations. Also please respect the park rules and don't bring your bike or dogs into the area. If you like my reviews, videos or photos don't be a stick in the mud, just give them a thumbs up

This is a very nice and quiet place with narrow trails of different length, that makes this location an excellent choice for a small hike with kids. You can observe the wild nature in all its beauty - squirrels, ducks, beavers, turtles, and a variety of birds. This place is so peaceful and charming you don’t want to leave it. Dogs and bikes are not allowed.

Do you like Mud? Ok just kidding, it's the name, but the wildlife are just teaming to amass around you like Cinderella minus the cleaning and the sewing... They're a ferocious bunch of woodland creatures ready to devour whatever seeds and nuts you have. Please don't feed the birds bread. Things you can spot - painted turtles, snapping turtles, weasels, herons, owls, chickadees, nurhatches, robins, squirrels, frogs, catfish, chipmunks, wood ducks, mallards, geese, migratory birds, you name it... you can often find people wandering about snapping wildlife pics, but for the love of god, or whoever your deity - the pond trails are supposed to be dog free as per the big signs!!! Sheesh - I don't care if it's a lap dog with a cute sweater! Leave the dog for dog approved trails! NO dogs, it stresses the wildlife... even the people do so please respect that we are in the animal's environment and not the other way around! Enjoy quietly and responsibly! Pick up your trash too.

Beautiful during the winter, there are plenty of ice rinks connected by ice roads right now in January of 2021. The hiking paths are well worn in right now and areas that are sketchy can easily be bypassed by walking on the lake itself. There are small patches of running water in certain areas but its fairly easy to avoid.

September 22, 2020 A nice little trail close to downtown Ottawa. Very easy terrain for all sorts of walkers. The ducks, chipmunks, squirrels and other wildlife will likely be on the path with you. Great lookouts for bird watching. Easy paths for kids to explore. Parking is easy and free. However, watch out for poisson ivy.

Great little slice of nature along the Ottawa River where people can escape to for birdwatching and fresh air. Easy and level walking paths that surround Mud Lake where you’ll be able to spot different types of birds, and a few other paths that lead to rivers edge as well where you can view rapids nearby. Accessible by car and transit, as well there’s a bike path that goes along the side of mud lake, with a bike rack beside both entrances along the bike path. After spending some time in mud lake walk over to nearby Beachconers for some well earned local ice cream and other treats in the cafe next door. Britannia Park is just down the street where you’ll find a large park, popular beach and licensed burger shack in the summertime.

Beautiful conservation area. Great spot to see many birds, but it could use a bit more educational signage of leave no trace practices

Love this trail. There is so much variety of birds and wildlife here that it is spectacular. Currently, some areas are closed due to flooding but detours are easy to follow. Take your camera here or use your phone for some amazing pictures, or just relax, walk and enjoy everything that nature has to offer.

With the west side trails closed, it loses a star. Trails should be fully open late 2023 or early 2024

Mud Lake is a small oasis in the middle of Urban Ottawa’s west end. It is a birders paradise and recognized as a world class birding hot spot. It has an easy 1.5 km path that goes around the lake. It is officially called the Britannia Conservation area. There are five distinct eco zones including a grove of old growth white pines.
