Historical village that has a lot to offer. There is a school, church, farms with piglets, turkeys, bunnies and other animals. Also, you can find horses, sheeps here. I was lucky to see how nails were done of steel with hand tools. They have other performances and as I know events list is on their site. Entrance is not too expensive (8.50$) and it's free for children under five. It's located near Ottawa river, but not in a walking distance. So there are not lakes or rivers. In general the museum is similar to first Canada village, but it's smaller and located much closer. Definitely recommended. 3 hours would be enough to see everything. I'd suggest to add some food courts here. They do not sell any food, so take it with yourself.

I really enjoyed visiting this museum, and suggest it to anyone who hasn't had the chance to yet. They have a variety of historical buildings as well as staff that are informative and friendly. The museum itself is a nice walk, situated mostly outdoors. There are houses to check out, as well as animals which are super cute too! I recommend going during the summer as that is when the animals are there. Additionally, the staff that are in the different buildings have some fun little games or demonstrations of historical pieces.

Fantastic village set at the turn of the century with all sorts of buildings. It was very cool to see a catalogue "kit home" and I look forward to going back when the buildings can be toured. It's well worth it to visit even with only looking in at the building doorways. Also the print shop person was fantastic and so very enthusiastic

I absolutely loved it! Very well organized, well kept and highly maintained. We got the chance to go back in time to the 1900s. The gentleman at the millsaw even did a demonstration for us. I loved the old school building, the church, the old train, the millsaw... There are some farm animals as well such as horses, bunnies, hens, cow etc. They had a scavenger hunt today and my children enjoyed their time doing it. They learned different things about the old day. This place is a cultural wealth, it is a real valuable heritage and a precious gem! Washrooms available, I would say stroller friendly, parking available and most of all they have a family package for admission of about 22$. Staff is very friendly, welcoming and professional. Open Wed. To Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. They host different events and post them on their social media platforms. A must visit!

Visited for the Christmas displays a week ago (December). What a cool experience. We were there just as the sun was setting and it was beautiful. Lots of fun activities. Our kids (and the adults) had a wonderful time.

Such an interesting place! Lit to discover in a fun way. You can see how teachers teached, speak for the print shop manager, the carpenter, discover all the activities from before

I took my son on the 4 pm Farm Animal Tour and it was SO much fun! Farmer Valerie shared lots of funny anecdotes about each animal as she cares for them ever day. She also invited the kids to feed and interact with them. Seeing these rare breeds and learning about their history, use in olden times, and recent adventures was so enjoyable. They really are beautiful creatures.

Imagine stepping into a village frozen in the era of the 1920s-30s, a nostalgic time capsule waiting to be explored. Surrounding you are vintage homes, each piece of furniture echoing stories of a bygone era. The local press, school, carpentry, farm, garage, workshop, and church are pristine representations of that period. As you stroll, the townsfolk, draped in period attire, go about their daily lives. The village is buzzing with anticipation, as craftsmen are busy preparing for Christmas. With the hum of a 1930s machine, the carpenter skillfully crafts lathes, carts, and delicate wooden trinkets. The press churns out notebooks and gift bags using a 1920s printer, while the forge produces exquisite iron gifts. It's not just a visit; it's a mesmerizing journey back in time. Doesn't that sound enchanting?

We went for the Christmas Lights special and it was great. All shops were running and the staff were knowledgeable and insightful. When there was an obscure question they emailed the historian who replied while we were still in the museum.

We were visiting from Calgary and had a great time!! Our 14 month old had a blast and the 20 month old and 3 year olds we were with had so much fun! It's not too big a place to be overwhelmed, everyone was so friendly and informative. There was one gentleman who made the whole experience that much more incredible. He showed us the mill area closer and told us so much about all of the equipment and how it's been changed or maintained. He got the horses to a better viewing area for the kids and more. Our friends (locals) will definitely be bringing their kids back again soon. If we are ever back in Ottawa, we would love to come back. Highly recommend this place. It was very affordable. Pack your own lunch and have a picnic. It's great.

Good for one time visit . Can't compare it with Glow lights Ottawa . You have to book online and it is not at all user friendly. Don't go there without booking tickets as you can't enter by taking on arrival pass. Front office network is mostly down so the staff will just say sorry even if you drive down from the US or other countries to watch Xmas lights. If you are going with children they will enjoy not that exciting for adults.

What a place to visit. The museum is absolutely gorgeous. You can see old houses school garage stables and lots of animals. Don’t forget to go and see at the far back the small train that kids can ride. Also good to know. There is a walking trail in the back of The museum , Dogs are welcome, it is an off leash trail. Lots of mosquitoes. Open all year round. Great for snowshoeing and hiking in the winter fall and spring.

A great experience for just about everyone I happened to be in the area running some errands when I saw this lovely recreation of what used to be the town about 100-125 years ago. The buildings are in great condition, the docents are excellent and helpful, all decked out in period clothing, speaking about the life experiences of their characters! I was there almost at closing time, yet they took me over the places I was most interested in seeing such as the one room schoolhouse. We talked about lots of things, such as demographics served, teaching conditions, students lives, lifecycle of the building (which was an actual school, not a replica) and the events surrounding its closure. All in all, CHV is a very engaging place, and it is a great outing, whether you are taking your out of town guests, your children or you just want to learn more about life in ON as it was during the Agricultural Era. NB: Pictures were taking by me during my visit.

We had the best time here! The staff is incredible, not rushed and so kind. We spent 4 hours here with our homeschool group and the kids still didn't want to leave when it was time. I can't say enough good things. We will be back. :)

Nickly restored old building, staff are eager to explain their roles in the village. Great for kids to see the way it once was. Awesome demonstration in the saw mill and wood working shop.

A great place to visit with kids to see what life was like in the early 1900s. There were several interesting live demonstrations (blacksmith, and sawmill). They had a scavenger hunt that was fun to complete with our daughter. Kids 5 and under are free.

We honestly loved this place. They used to have a longer mini train track for steam engines. The kids love riding the train. Would be 5 stars if the train track wasn't shortened. They always have activities and games.

The Vintage Village of Lights is absolutely wonderful! You get to decorate your own cookies, build super cute crafts, eat roasted marshmallows by the fire, go on a lovely sleigh ride, meet Santa, and so much more. The staff are some of the nicest people I have ever met and they really made the experience that much more magical! Right from the employees at the front desk to Santa himself, everybody just seemed happy to be there and really cared that everybody enjoyed their experience. The light display and giant reindeer are breathtakingly beautiful and the grounds themselves are lovely. I was blown away with how much there was to do for such a small entrance fee. It really is fun for the whole family, not just for kids! Everybody really needs to check this out if they have the chance this holiday season!

The staff were amazing especially miss scare crow :) the ride around the property was great and we got lots of candy. Lots of heritage and reading I gave some insight on when I was a kid and used a wood stove :) The hot chocolate was absolutely dreadful unfortunately 4 of my kids got it and they said it tasted like vomit I did not believe them I tasted it myself and I threw them out besides that all was great especially miss scarecrow :) I would give 5 star if I did not spend 2.50 a cup on something I threw out.

The museum was much bigger than I was expecting. It's made up of old buildings and houses which have been relocated to their site. You can explore each building and learn about the early history of the area. There are washrooms on site as well as a snack bar and a water cooler where you could refill a water bottle. There is a small assortment of live stock as well. The staff we met were very informative, friendly and very welcoming.

We attended the museum for our first time ever during their Easter event and loved it. Such a well run event, staff are so passionate and caring. Answered all of our kids questions. Very interactive. A great family activity. Will definitely be back during the regular season to explore all it has to offer.

Went to walk the trails, best time of year to do so, 1h15, and we found a way to the the loop. Well maintained trails, nice to walk through the orchards and see all the happy birds and different plants and trees.

This is a peaceful little gem in Cumberland! So much history from this little village. The animals are so well taken care of, they are extremely well fed. This is the perfect location for a photo session. The apple trees are big and healthy! You hear different birds chirping, absolutely lovely!

Lots of agrarian history in one location. Many structures date to the 1800s. Many farm implements of the era on display. A working blacksmith. We took the opportunity to ride the miniature scale gas powered train. Coal burning locomotive and and all electric battery powered version are available. A tractor drawn carriage circulates for visitors from the reception building, a former train station, to the model train. Very good for children of all ages to visit.

*CYCLING REVIEW* Cute little walk-around village just outside of Ottawa. The commute from downtown by bike is very safe, and limited to bike paths and a few, low-traffic roads, and there are a few trees and fence posts that you can lock your bike to on arrival. Staff there are very knowledgeable and engaging. Lots of space for kids to run around and explore if they are interested. All things considered, this is an enjoyable, affordable, accessible family outing for people living in and around Ottawa.
