This is hands down the worst gym I have ever been a member. This gym has some program during the summer for kids / school students. They bring them in large groups and these kids have no clue what they are doing, the front desk staff take them on a 5min tour and show them a few things then they are left unsupervised. They don't know how to do any exercises correctly or safely and not only are they going to injure themselves but other members - I have been bumped or hit more then once by these kids when doing heavy sets such as 100lb db chest presses. These kids should be in the personal trainer section only and supervised by a trainer!! This program or whatever it is is nothing more then a glorified babysitting facility for an hour so the parents can go to whatever. If you actually cared about these peoples fitness and safety then you would be doing what i have suggested. Also this gym is absolutely terrible for not returning weights especially on the weekends. Parking is the worst out of any gym I have ever been to and the change rooms look like a third world country on most days with towels and paper towel just thrown everywhere.

From the outside, the gym looks promising. But when you explore the inside, there is definitely a lack of creativity and a mismanagement of equipment space. There is a high chance to walk on each other during the operation of a piece of equipment. Thats a huge safety hazard. For the one that are still concern about respiratory infection, this facility would fail miserably for hygiene. This Goodlife gym in Barrheaven, alongside the one in Queensview location are so far the worse one. The best i would recommend would be the St-Laurent Center Goodlife, the Stittsville and the one in Hazeldean Rd in Kanata.

I never write google reviews but I am tired of this gym but unfortunately its the only one that is near me. Front desk staff constantly leaving the desk unattended. They go upstairs and talk to their friends and leave members waiting at the desk. What is going on here? This especially happens on Weekends. The staff at this gym really need to get it together. This has been happening for too long. I can see other reviews on here about the staff and I am baffled that they still cant even do the bare minimum.

The layout of the gym is frustrating and way too small. Having one large floor with all amenities would be better, there’s not enough space for free weights, and sometimes not enough machines. This gym also compared to others always smells like sweat, people lack gym etiquette and don’t wipe down their machines after using them. I wish the owners would put in some more effort to maintain it or renovate it.

Honestly this gym used to be pretty good. Over the time it has really degraded. First thing they have done is add weird childproofing locks to the rowing and pull down machines that ruin any movement you do with it. They also have locked a lot of equipment downstairs which some people know the code to that are friends with the employees. So everyone is paying for the gym but only friends of the employees can access?? The gym has old benches 10 years of age. They have hired new staff that do not know what they're doing and have no sense of customer service (some new male kid and a new girl). Do yourself a favor and go to any other gym as a lot of people I know are going to be switching due to these new changes they have added and you do not want to be stuck in a contract with this gym.I have never written a review in my life but this gym has really made me go out of the way to write one.

Well, where to begin… I had Robin Sanders as my trainer and let me tell you when someone is as incompetent as her it shows. First off, we didn’t even begin with any stretching or warmup exercises, she just threw me right to the weights cold. Pretty strange, even my middle school PE teachers had us stretch before exercising. Then, she gave me an outrageous diet that had no where near the caloric need my particular body needs in order to gain muscle. I started losing weight and not gaining muscle like I had outlined in my plan… At one point she even made fun of my form when I told her I had previous knee injuries. Not only making me feel self conscious but also making me do painful variations of the exercises. Awful experience. Either way, would not recommend her service whatsoever. You’re probably better off saving money and just following YouTube videos for fitness. I think she should know better than to stick her nose where it doesn’t belong.

Don’t bother wasting your money to get a membership at this gym. The gym stinks so bad, and it is so crowded especially in free weight area where finally getting a bench is a miracle. When new year comes, it’ll be much moreeeeeee crowded so don’t even bother signing up for this gym. Even the locker room is bigger than the free weight area. The only good thing about this gym is that it’s 24 hour.

I've been coming to this gym for almost 5 years, and I think it's time for GoodLife to build a new larger gym somewhere else in Barrhaven, maybe closer to the Costco strip mall as there is plenty of land there to build. Overall this location is ok and suits me, but it just gets too crowded during peak hours and trying to get a structured workout in becomes more difficult at those times. Also the bathrooms and change rooms are too small. A new, larger GoodLife location is what Barrhaven needs.

this gym is already over crowded. Now we have "teen fitness" aka free daycare. either restrict teen daycare to certain locations that are capable of accommodating them or teach the d*amn kids some gym etiquette!!! and gym etiquette does not mean "wipe your equipment when youre done" it means dont stand in peoples way. dont block doors. dont stand around a machine with 6 of your friends barely using the machine youre occupying. Dont stand in someones way when theyre trying to carry a 2, hundred pound dumbells to their bench. attachments for pulley's are going missing. the tricep extension ropes are all banged up. the pulleys arent even smooth and theres different areas of friction as you perform your movement. theyve never maintained any of them all these years. the location is old and not maintained. just because employees occasionally put some plates back in their racks doesnt mean theyre "maintaining" the gym. pathetic gym. unfortunately im payin 70$ a month for this circus of a gym and goodlife will do nothing about anything. so this google review is all i can do. hopefully someone from corporate sees this and actually makes a change at this gym. do better goodlife. P.S teens are using free-weight equipment that theyre not authorized to use. aka squat racks. bench press. doing deadlifts. ruining other peoples workouts who pay hard earned money to have access to the facility. all to be sabotaged by some kids who dont know any better because they were not given a proper orientation.

Got a membership for 2 weeks while visiting family in Ottawa. I was told I could place my account on hold for 6 months and that I would be notified before they resume my membership. My membership was resumed with no notification and my bank account was charged. I called them nicely to let them know that I was not notified and their excuse was that my email was not on the account, despite me providing my email during registration. Super disappointed with my experience, certainly will not be considering this gym or any other GoodLife Fitness location going forward; no good reason for a profitable business to do this.

i’ve been going here for about 2 years and it’s getting progressively worse every time. wayyyy too crowded, machine quality is getting worse and worse, and the washrooms are filthy. during the holidays they weren’t cleaned for 2 weeks. i know goodlife will reply with some generic copypaste answer, so don’t bother. other goodlifes in ottawa are doing a way better job, dont tell us u care, show us u care

Been a member here since I was a teen, has been going downhill over the years. Management is a joke, who locks clips on machines? Those carabiners cost next to nothing, especially when purchased in bulk. When something is broken it takes over a month to fix.. prime example being the cable machines. It's like they have 10 last carabiners left in the whole gym and they're trying their best to preserve them in a LOCKED cabinet downstairs. Gym has become way overcrowded and needs to expand. The only good thing about this gym is the fact that it's now 24/7 (excluding holidays??) and a few select staff here. It's no surprise most of your original clientele have switched to your competitors nearby.

The gym is small for the number of people there (specially upstairs). Very busy in general. They should remove some of the cardio equipment downstairs to add more leg racks, leg/chest press and cables. Nobody uses the high number of stair climbers (6), elliptical (a lot) and so on. Suggestion: removing some unused cardio equipment would add more room for useful ones.

Started coming to this location about a year and a half ago. Good gym overall, friendly staff, a good mix of cardio, weight machines and free weights; also some really good trainers if you have some extra cash to pay for training (worth the investment if you're willing to put in the work). Place is generally clean, in good order and normally an employee around if you need them, including at the front desk. With regards to some other reviews here are my comments. The gym is bad because it's overcrowded. This is correct in some sense, depending on the time of day and day of the week this location can become pretty busy. However if you time your workouts to early in the morning or later in the evening, or weekends it's pretty manageable and hardly any weight times for whatever you want to use (pun intended). IMHO, the fact that this gym gets crowds means it's a good gym. There was another gym not far from this location, not crowded at all so no wait times to use whatever you want. The downside is the gym closed down because of the lack of crowds. The parking sucks at this location. Tonight I parked in front of the Metro, almost never have to park this far even if the lot is packed. It took me 80 seconds to get from my car to the doors at Goodlife, on a leisurely pace. People complaining about the parking, YOU'RE GOING TO A GYM!! In all seriousness if you're complaining about a 1-2 minute walk to get to your workout I'm moderately concerned that your workout effort is killing your gains.

PROS: This location is is generally well maintained. There are plenty of free weights, squat racks, and cardio equipment. Broken machines are usually fixed in a timely manner but not always. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful, but some of them are just walking egos. CONS: The music is often too loud downstairs but most of the staff are reasonable will turn it down if you ask. The layout of the gym in the upstairs weightlifting area is cramped and it can get quite hot/stuffy during busy times. They also have three massage chairs so that you can reward yourself after a hard workout... except for the fact that none of them usually work properly.

First impression after todays workout, my you I’m use to working out at hazeldean, carp road goodlife ect… First off front desk guy wasn’t overly friendly I mentioned I hadn’t been to this gym before and asked him some simple questions about the layout kind of hoping/expecting him to explain the layout so more but he did not. Anyways moving on the the layout, it makes no sense. Back machines mixed with leg machines then you go upstairs to a very small area where all the machines are touching and worn out/broken, the lat pulldown machine was rigged together with a couple chains and when you go to pull down it’s uneven and I hurt my back after a couple trial reps. Bathrooms and change rooms are so out dated, for a big gym there is only two stalls in the washroom, bathroom is dirty along with change rooms and very outdated like a said. No water fountains located around the gym only seen one maybe there are more but who knows. Back to upstairs the machines are all so old and need to be fixed or replaced. All of the benches are worn out and falling apart and all the plates connected to the pins of the machines are all separated and out of place so when doing a rep it feels like the weight your pulling isn’t accurate. Also I couldn’t imagine going during peak time as I went at 5pm on a Saturday night and it was moderately busy and still everything available was most likely broken or off balanced. I encourage the managers to try out there equipment or try to workout during a peak time. Do the managers or owners workout? Doubt it. Wong be back.

If I could give less stars I would for this particular location. Older gym, ageing equipment, not enough equipment, lack of cooperative approach to equipment sharing between participants (you could end up waiting 30 min to use some equipment), crowded, constantly running out of towels, uncaring staff focused mostly on selling services, (very pushy on selling) rather than ensuring smooth gym operations, etc. Beware.

Ok so, I like the goodlife franchise and most locations are good and clean with a great atmosphere and most equipment fully functional. This location however I have found to be an unfortunate exception. Locker rooms are not the cleanest. The lockers here are on the smaller side compared to other locations (Kanata, Rideau, etc.). You can tell that the inside of the lockers are not cleaned regularly and shower floors are often dirty. Most times there are several used towels lying around the change room on the benches, floors and inside lockers. I think a bit of a heightened focus on cleanliness at this location would go a long way to improving the overall experience. Besides that, the overall layout isn't the best and it's often quite crowded but this seems like an issue that little can be done to prevent with the exception of maybe extending the weightlifting areas into the cardio section as it seems the majority of cardio machines are not in use while the freeweight section is packed. In summary; I'd recommend taking the extra few kilometers drive out from barrhaven to a different location for the best experience.

Probably the filthiest Goodlife in Ottawa. I doubt the showers are ever scrubbed properly. It is quite a disgusting experiencing walking into the showers. The sauna I have stopped using it completely from the lack of cleaning and horrible smell. Management need to get their act together and prioritize locker room and shower room cleanliness. Oh and the towels are of the cheapest kind and barely dry you off.

One of the best gyms in town! If you love looking for parking for 2 hours+, waiting for machines to open up at all times of the day, showering in mold, hibernating all summer to get away from the teens, being harassed for referrals every time you show up and moving floors every time you want you use machine/free weights, then this is the place for you!!

Just wanted to take a moment to appreciate Sam at the front desk. He has always been so friendly. The way he greets people as they come and go really add a nice touch to the gym experience. With corporate gyms, it’s not easy to feel like a community, but Sam makes it feel more personal. It’s something we look forward to when we swing by. Also, Natasha’s classes at this location are absolutely amazing. She takes the time to know people one on one and truly cares about their wellbeing, also creating a community atmosphere. Thank to both of them for the great energy and making GoodLife a more positive experience!

Layout is questionable but everything is clean and functional. The staff and most members are nice. We could really use like an extra flat bench and maybe another squat rack or two. So much floor space is wasted on cardio equipment that goes unused, while the free weights and barbell areas are heavily in use most of the day.

This gym is probably the best gym I have been to in Ottawa so far. They have the best customer service that I have seen in a while. My daughter is in the teen fitness program and absolutely loves it. I'm glad to see a gym that is accepting and encouraging of young teens and their start into a healthy and fit lifestyle.

They don’t really enforce the mask rules. Guys are walking around the gym and going up and down the stairs, even just walking in the club, without their mask on and very few of the staff say anything. Most of the staff to stand around talking to their friends or looking at their phones. I don’t feel safe here. Update: Regarding your response, nothing has changed since my initial review. You have been horrible throughout the pandemic for enforcing the mask policy. Nothing happens to repeat offenders. You obviously care more about keeping people making payments than you do about client safety. I’m going to cancel my membership and join Movati.

Have been a member of Goodlife, and usually frequent this gym. It is one of the smaller Goodlife facilities I have been in, but the space is used fairly well. Never a shortage of cardio equipment, the weights section upstairs can get very crowded. Staff are friendly, facility is pretty clean, just wish there was a bit more space for free weights.

I pay 65+ $ per month just to come in and not be able to workout. teen fitness takes over the gym from morning til about 6pm which causes huge issues for those coming in after work at 5pm. There should be a limit for the amount of teens that can come in at a time to not take away from PAYING members. however, we both know this review is going no where and i’m just talking to myself. I will be cancelling my membership to go to movati. thank you

When I moved to Ottawa, I joined the Barrhaven GoodLife on Strandherd. I then suffered sciatica and decided in my recovery process to engage in personal training. I am and always have been very much into fitness so was looking forward to enhancing my training. I was paired up with Zach. Initially, it started out well, then the PT started to cancel my sessions, moving them around and showing up late. In addition, during the PT, I suffered an injury (my rib) which hurt for several weeks. I was told that this is a risk of PT, and not relevant as I failed to report this in my first email I sent to report the poor service of the PT. I sent an email and the Manager (Sean) who called me; said it is a he said – she said situation and he would have to review. Many weeks went by with no response, so I followed up. Bottom line, he credited my account with 5 sessions. This is not what I was looking for. I expected a full refund as my very first experience with PT was very traumatizing. What ever happened to customer service? The email from the Manager was very cavalier and dismissing. This is very disappointing for Good Life and that is why I wanted to post this so that people are aware of this kind of treatment BEFORE you hand over your hard earned money. PT is not a cheap venture.

The only good thing about this place are the staff and the fact that it's 24/7. Anyone with a car should travel to other clubs. Overcrowded during nearly all times of the day, layout makes no sense, small tarmac, sauna without temperature controls (men's). I can't imagine how bad the overcrowding would be here if we didn't have a women's club on Greenbank.

All round bad experience. I signed up last year, mostly for classes and was told when I asked that there would be more classes very soon as COVID was the excuse still. As of now they have almost no spin classes even though the room sits empty, body pump and other staples run very infrequently and if you wanted to go at say... lunch you would not be able to do the same classes more than once a week. Goodlife has consistently increased its rates and been giving less and less. I will be exploring other options. I almost forgot to mention this gym feels very old and dirty.

I’ve been a goodlife member for many years. I recently moved to Ottawa and I have been going to this gym for the past few weeks. Although it is a bit older (compared to other locations I’ve frequented in Ontario) it is a good gym. It’s not super busy, at least not when I’ve gone. The staff is very friendly and welcoming 😊

3 stars because the staff are friendly. And the rest is a zero. Recently signed up at this location and i now regret not taking the 7 day trial first to see how crowded this small gym gets. Weight training area is on the 2nd floor. I usually come here after peak hours (10pm) and it is like a highschool courtyard. Very crowded with different groups of younger fellas talking amungst themselves and taking up all the room and equipment. Feels more like a hangout area than a workout facility. Cant believe i payed all this money just to be working out at what feels like a highschool gym.

Needs major updating...in prime locatio but ewuipment is over 30 years old. Most equipment has reached end of life but has not been replaced. Massage chairs are old and don't work well. No TRX band or pullup bars for members to use. 2 squat racks. Sauna barely works. Water fountain filters are likely rarely replaced. There is no indicator for filter life and the fountains taste like tap water. Facility is due for a major updating but management does not properly articulate this business case. Most members who live in this area drive to hazledean, merivale, or heron locations because this one is so dated and under-invested in. Informally known as one of the worst/lagging goodlife locations in ottawa. It's obvious why they lose members to movati in this area. It's especially bad with teen fitness here but hopefully they can do some updating.

If you just focus on your workouts, then you wouldn’t be complaining. Stop looking around and finding things that are negative. I go here all the time and have not found any issues such as “overcrowding”. There are a lot of machines that you can use to exercise specific body parts. If you always have this issue then maybe you should learn patience and incorporate your workouts properly. If you find any other issues, solve it other than complain!

I’ve been a client of Samay for a year now, and I am grateful that I signed up with him. When I started with samay, I had only 4 goals. Get in shape, get stronger, and improve on my mental health, and discipline. And thankfully with the help of samay, I’m getting closer and closer to achieving my goals. My experience with Samay was pretty good. Samays the type of guy that will never give up on you, and I’m glad he never gave up on me. We’ve also had a lot of great conversations and laughs. Samays helped me achieve my goal of improving my mental health. Before I started I was overweight and very depressed. But over the year Samays helped me lose weight and improve my mental health, now I haven’t reached my weight loss goal, but I have reached my mental health goal and I am very happy with where I am and how I look. Some of the things I personally enjoyed was just being able to talk with Samay. He’s never really judged anything I’ve said and always teaches me something new when I don’t know or forgot what a certain exercise does. I also really enjoyed all the laughs we’ve had together, sometimes I would come in for training after a bad day, but when we have a good laugh or just a good conversation in between sets, it genuinely boosts my mood and makes the day a little better

Overall it’s a great gym, very relaxed atmosphere, very crowded mostly with young kids in the heavy weight areas starting around 4pm onward to the point you won’t be able to use any equipment. Most people don’t really train hard, a lot of chatting and on their phones tying up the equipment for more serious people. I stared going to the one on pinecrest a few weeks ago and am eschewing the strandherd one. Staff if I may reiterate are great.

Way to small and crowded! Would expect more from goodlife. Build a new one that actually accomadates the people In Barhaven

The cardio machines seem to be always in working order. Could use more fans in the small spinning room. Good quality free weights and weight machines. Friendly staff.

One personal trainer need a course in respect for women. The one with the long black beard and bald head makes inappropriate comments to women. This trainer always smells like alcohol and smoke. Very unprofessional and makes many female members uncomfortable. Do better Goodlife

It is not fancy but it is not terribly expensive either. You get what you pay for. Most classes are great, my personal favorite is bodybalance on Monday night. Ask for Emily if you need personal training. She is great. Knowledgeable, caring, sweet and funny.

I went to try out this location for the first time and never went back. Super crowded, especially on the second floor, can’t used the cable machines. Staffs are nice and welcoming.

This is an average gym IMO from availability of equipment + space perspectives. The catalyst behind this review is what I faced after finishing my workout this am. Recently moved to Ottawa and as usual after finishing my workout I went to grab a towel to shower, however surprisingly I was told that we don’t have any towels at the moment and I need to wait at least 15 minutes. I’ve been a goodlife member for ~ 5 years now and went to branches in Waterloo, Mississauga, Windsor, Fredericton and Halifax and this is my 1st time ever to face such a situation. When I asked how come you guys don’t have towels, I was told people are taking towels home and we have around 80 towels. This means nothing to me as a member who’s paying extra money for the towel service to get them when I need not when they’re available. Moreover, when I mentioned the ships which are integrated into the towels which triggers the alarm if someone went out of the gate with a towel, the associate was amazed by the idea as if it was the 1st time to hear it although it’s pretty much the case in all the gyms that I’ve been to.

Horrible Experience. Dealt with the manager Sami. Had an issue where I got charged an extra 20$ 3times during my time with goodlife. that’s 60$. Called yesterday to figure out what’s going on, and they had the manger give me a call this morning. Sami was condescending, and basically told me that there’s nothing he could do and I should’ve read my contract. Seems like this happens all the time. And they have no issue having the manager disrespect the customer while relaying the information. I recommend you go to a respectable gym like movati or anytime fitness where it’s the price or cheaper and much better.

I've been a Goodlife Member for 4 years now and came from out of town to visit family in Ottawa, I was welcomed at the front by two smiling girls that made me feel very comfortable. I enjoyed how clean the gym was and the staff were so nice! I strongly recommend this gym if anyone is visiting from out of town :)

A great place to work out if you're close or live in Barhaven. A lot of machines and sometimes I'll go do a workout there (even if I live in Orleans)

Bit of a small gym but the community at 6am is great! Big props to Louise(pump and step), Greg (rpm should be here full time), and Caroline(rpm) who make working out fun. Seriously never laughed so much while working out👌

The negative reviews here really boggle my mind. This is a gym not a resort, It has everything you need for all fitness levels. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a place to put in work.

An average place. The manual machines are fine. So many automatic machines with few functional. Most have out of service sign on them. Welcome bag/kit has been unavailable since I joined in May. Having to ask everytime I visit the gym has become awkward and embarrassing, but that's what they asked me to keep doing until the day it is available. You can just cancel that sign up fee you charge since the little compliments that come with signing up are not available. The staff is generally cool.

I think that it's wonderful that this gym accepts teens into their gym for free in the summer, I personally started off with teen Fitness and appreciate when gym's make an effort to help kids with their physical fitness

An adequate gym with everything you need for a good workout. They could use 2-4 more water fountains (especially in the cardio area) and more attentive staff who proactively refill the sanitizer bottles and paper towels instead of having to chase them down. In the summer, the gym was barely usable because they gave a bunch of free memberships to kids who didn't use the equipment and just stood around, crowding out the paying members. So hopefully that's done and doesn't happen again.

I saw online that I could do a 7 day free trial at this gym as a prospective member, and registered for that. The girl that gave me the tour was far too pushy however, and only on my second workout as part of the trial, told me that if I was not going to buy a membership that day then I had to pay the drop in fee (which is about $30), and I was told to pay mid- workout. I was considering joining but not after trying a workout at another gym to compare, and yet after the really pushy experience I won’t be returning to GoodLife :(

I had the pleasure working with Samih Abiad and Meredith. I was greeted at the front door with a smile ( normally never happens in a sales or fitness company ) Meredith directed me to the General Manager Samih Abiad. From there I was treated like a king. The best customer service I have received in such a long time. I was a member previously and worked thee at some point. Its tremendous that GoodLife always find the best people to motivate and take care of not only your fitness needs but our day to day needs. I felt more than welcomed., I didn't feel any stress or intimidated.....Such a class act. Please go see Samih ( GM ) and Meredith ( I assume AGM ) for your fitness goals and just a amazing experience Thank you so much for making me feel welcome..

My training services with Freddy have been excellent. He helped me in the specific categories that I needed to improve which were increase strengthen, improve balance, functional movement, and lose weight. What makes his training services so great is his workout program. He personally the training services to fit best for you. For example, I have a busy work schedule which causes me to get tired easily. Freddy took that information and, adapt the workout program that fits best for my goals and lifestyle. Overall within the training, I have lost 30 lbs, building strength in my back, and my energy went up. Great personal trainer. I would strongly recommend working with Freddy

Decent variety of machines, lots of room. Can get busy mid day but very quiet at night and in early morning if you can go then.
