If I could give this pet shop a zero rating, ,I would. The rabbits in their care are not being fed properly. In order for a rabbit to maintain optimum gut and tooth health, it requires hay 24 hours a day. This pet shop does not provide adequate hay to the rabbits they are selling.. Their staff is not well versed in proper feeding and care of rabbits. A potential customer will think that a small enclosure and pellet diet is the right way to go when having a rabbit as a pet. It isn't.

HOW IS THIS PLACE STILL OPEN? TALK ABOUT ANIMAL CRUELTY? I WAS THERE TODAY AND THE RABBITS HAD 0 WATER OR HAY! I asked an employee to fill their water & hay and she asked me what hay was.....? HAY IS 90% OF A RABBITS DIET......? I am disgusted and heartbroken for these animals.

Terrible pet store. Please do your research before shopping at Pets World. They purchase their puppies from puppy mills. They rabbits at being sold under 8 weeks (too young to be weaned from their mother). Their rabbits are not provided any hay (hay is 80% of a rabbit's diet , pellets 10% and veggies 10%), and they often do not have water for their dogs, cats and rabbits. Pets World was asked to leave by St. Laurent mall and Carlingwood mall. There is a petition trying to remove them from Bayshore mall and there is an ongoing investigation with Animal Welfare and the SPCA. Please do not shop here.

I've never seen such blatant negligence of the wellbeing of animals before. I have gone in twice to find emaciated and unhealthy bearded dragons on the sales floor for ridiculous prices. When it was brought to the employee's attention (and even the manager) they said nothing was wrong with them. I guarantee the animals died shortly after. If you can't take proper care of your stock don't sell them at all.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS STORE! Visited on a number of occasions, got a hamster for my eldest son as an early Christmas present in 2022 and he died after being with us just over 2 months. Poor guy had star gazing syndrome which is caused by poor habitat and inbreeding. Second I went in just this last week to find a crested gecko housed in a habitat that is Polar opposite to its requirements. The habitat was set up for a leopard gecko for reference As a seasoned reptile owner, I was very angered by this and disheartened for the animals they trade as this is straight up cruelty and a total disgrace that needs to be dealt with. For reference, the stores "crested gecko" enclosure with the disgusting price tag, against what a crested gecko enclosure SHOULD look like. I know this will probably fall on deaf ears. But please DO NOT support this store

The poor animals in this pet store are all being grossly mistreated for profit. We were there today and, just to name a few horrible cases of animal cruelty, there was no food or water for the bunnies, the fish were dying and the reptiles had no food, water or heat. Their cats, dogs and puppies are held in crowded close quarters and the birds are in tiny box cages, also with no food or water, that are barely large enough for their bodies. This place should not be allowed to operate. Anyone who cares about animals would be heartbroken going in there. Shame on them.

As always, I'm skeptical going into petstores. This one did not change my mind. Inside I found two rabbits housed with a single guinea pig, which is dangerous. Not only could a startled rabbit kick out and severely harm a guinea pig's fragile spine, but rabbits carry a bacteria called Bordetella bronchiseptica, which can cause upper respiratory tract infections in guinea pigs, which can be fatal. After politely expressing my concerns and explaining the potential dangers, the young lady working there became smug and rude, and the older gentleman (possibly the owner) kindly but pointedly dismissed everything I said, claiming that in the 40 years they've been doing this no such incident has ever occured. When I mentioned that it still could happen I was again dismissed. If they cared about their animals so much they would research and do what's best for their animals.

These people are not knowledgeable about rat care at all. I recently bought an overpriced male rat who was being housed with a female who is most likely pregnant. The bedding they are using destroys a rats respiratory system. So the young male I got is having a hard time breathing and is sneezing so much. Something needs to be done this store is not humane.

This pet store does not know anything about the care of rabbits Buns need a diet of HAY 80% of their diet should be hay, not pellets. If they don’t have hay they can get very sick, even die due to GI stasis! The store is not feeding any hay.& sometimes no water!! When they were asked about this, they clearly didn’t know about rabbits & what they need. 😥

I was not impressed, when I walked in they had two kinds of puppies, some in an enclosure that allowed people to pet them, and the others behind pexiglass, bright light shining on them, their water bowls were empty and their poor little heads were tilted towards the small opening that allowed air flow. I tried taking pictures but the glare from the glass doesn't show it clearly. the only staff that seemed to be available to speak to was busy at the front telling people they can't pick up the puppies. :/

I wish I could leave 0 stars. Absolutely horrific care of animals at this place. A Guinea pig kept with rabbits, extremely dangerous. Also pigs had no hay, and no fresh veg. Both are crucial to their healthy survival. I thought I would gently educate the person working and he proceeded to tell me that they had everything they needed and to leave the store. Absolutely ridiculous. They aren’t allowed to sell puppies anymore cause they were buying from puppy mills, and now they can’t take care of their small animals either.

I rate this place a one star beacause 1) small cage size for birds and rodents like hamsters and mice 2)hamsters do not have any toys in their cage ,no weels and the worst part is the weels are just in front of their cage like if they want to torture them. I hope this store closes

I would give this place a 0 star. As someone that owns parrots themselves, their birds are in HORRIBLE condition. They were very obviously overly stimulated, they had no proper food for them (seriously, just seeds to eat?!?!), no toys to keep them entertained and happy, and to add, disgusting little children coughing and smacking on their cages? Like are you serious? Just because these poor little guys can’t talk you choose to put them in the dirtiest condition ever? The conures were looking so malnourished. My SIL bought some millet for these little guys as a kind gesture, and we gave all the small conures a little bite. They were beyond excited and seemed very content. All a sudden, an older man came over and had the audacity to say “this isn’t a part of their diet” which I was shocked to hear, considering their ‘diet’ consisted of old, dirty seeds. I seriously cannot believe this place is still operating and I hope it gets shut down immediately.

A typical example of why these small mall petshops are going out of business. Questionable living/sanitary conditions for the animals. Not enough staff to properly clean behind the animals and serve customers. As a result, many of the critters are left sitting in their own waste. Came to buy hamsters and were told they accept mixed genders from the breeder. As a result they can't tell you if they are m/f. Makes it impossible to buy two without risking getting a m/f. The big chains like Petsmart are more ethical/responsible and will only carry one gender in each store to prevent unwanted breeding. As a result we left without buying anything and I'll likely never return to this store.

Was in there today and the manager gave me blatantly false information. They told me that feeding my kitten a food product designed for all age categories will kill him. The product i am using is merrick back country raw infused game bird all ages recipe. Can confirm after several months of feeding and vet consultation that this product is healthy for kittens. Very dissapointed with the attemt to sell me 2 30+ dollar bags when only one is needed

we bought a conure here at the start of the year. The conure was super traumatized and is still to today afraid of hands. Back then they couldn't tell us the gender, how old the conure was, the background etc. We wanted to buy a second conure and came back just to see what they have to offer. Every time we come here, the manager is non-existent. Staff cannot tell you anything about the conures. Conures are double the price you find at other shops / online. The animals seriously looks depressed and scared of humans. This place is a business and does not seem to care about animal welfare. I'd recommend anyone to try a different shop.

The individuals working at this store do not treat the animals properly. Animals have very minimal access to food. Animals that should have constant access to hay did not have any. I asked an employee if I could purchase a bag of hay to be placed into the cages and they shut me down. The employees clearly do not care about the well-being of animals (not to mention they could have profited from me purchasing their hay) . Employees are not kind-hearted and are not good for business. Either way, do not support this business.

This place is terrible to their animals. Their guinea pigs do not even have hay but yet they sell it to me for my guinea pig. How does that make sense? It is basic guinea pig knowledge that guinea pigs need hay, fresh veg, pellets and vitamin c tablets. If they sell their animals and tell people they only need pellets they are doing a huge disservice to the animal and the new owner!

The animals are treated horribly here. The store continuously tries to sell off expired food at a 50% discount which could lead to severe illness in animals. Birds constantly get out of their cages and fly into other stores in the mall. Today (holiday Monday) What I’m assuming is the owner or the manager unboxed screaming rabbit in the store front which drew a crowd to see what the commotion was. The poor thing was probably severely stressed and a bunch of people crowding around probably didn’t help. Furthermore the animal was brought out in a shipping box. To my knowledge shipment companies do not do deliveries on the civic holiday. I’m unsure if there are different protocols when it comes to live animals however if my assumption is correct it seems as though this animal was being stored in the back of the store in a box like inventory. Avoid at all costs.

Many people like to mistreat beta fish. They think that just because they can survive in a small area means that they’re fine but it’s like if I locked a human in a tiny closet, sure they would live, but they wouldn’t have a good quality of life in most stores they’re in tiny little fish bowls, but this is taking it to a whole new level, the fact that they would put Fish in plastic cups is ridiculous. Five minutes of research shows that they need filters and heating systems and 5 gallon tanks they deserves to be shut down

I went into Pet World while wandering around the mall, and the treatment of the animals are horrible. The rabbits aren't fed properly and the birds are all kept in the tiniest cages ever. But the part that caught my eye the most was the mistreatment of the Bettas. They are kept in plastic cups like the one that you'd get at a fair or a milkshake shop. All of the Bettas are showing clear signs of stress and lethargy. Another thing is all that the Bettas have in the cup is a small handful of rocks at the bottom, Bettas are intelligent fish and they need stimulation. I would strongly recommend that you don't buy from here.

i wish i could literally give -1000000 stars. i got a bunny from here not to long ago and i had to find out he was sick the hard way, i think places like these should know the signs of a animals sickness and should make sure they are healthy instead of just selling them. i could’ve done so much to make sure he was alright, but they just told me he was very “curious and playful” little did i know that’s a sign of illness. if i could go back in time i would do everything i could to make sure my bunny would be okay. but they don’t ever give enough information when selling a animal. it’s cruel. they are also awful to the rest of the animals and treat them horribly. they don’t give you all the information that should be needed when you purchase a animal. please do not go here, this store needs to be taken down.

Iam in tears….I got terrible allergies to a conure I bought for my child, 24 hours later, I started to experience dreadful allergies to the point my eyes were puffy and burning.. so called to get a refund, I was told by Michael Haynes that there is no possible way a human can have allergies to a bird and that I was basically making it up. And he would not refund me. I had to do a quick cheap resell on Kijiji because I was suffering. I paid over$1800.00 for a conure and lost my child’s gift.

I bought two rats from here, I bought one the other day and decided I needed to get a companion for him and went back to buy him a friend. The first time I was in there the older man was so so kind and was so helpful!!! I wish I had his help this time, but instead I had another older man who had extremely short hair and was so so rude!!!! First he seemed put out and then once I asked if I could get another male he then proceeded to tell me I have to take my chances cause they don’t do gender checks… what?! I then purchased a rat and did a gender check myself and found out he is a boy (thankfully!!!) and he was so mad and said “I thought I told you that there is no guarantee!!!” I love my new rats, but I will not be going back there as this experience I had today put a sour taste in my mouth.

The cats and big pets are far too expensive a cat we found and liked a lot was 3450 dollars. Hello my name is now Bear. I was in a cage here for a month small air holes toys bed or a blanket was just a dream. I was in cedar shavings something us ferrets and other small animals should NEVER be in as it can cause breathing issues. I had my head stuck in a too deep empty food dish trying to escape the bright lights. Mom checks on the animals here and I was the worst she had seen not able to leave me and going against her belief of adopt don’t buy she brought me home. I was VERY SICK. I had diarrhea and ear mites. Before mom could bring me to her amazing ferret vet I went to an emergency vet. Mom spent over 1000 to get me well. My buddy ROSE from his shutdown Carlingwood store nearly died. (RIP at 7 years last month from insulinoma) Mom called the store not wanting money or anything just to tell them as she was told a female was sold days before who was with me the female manager denied having any knowledge of me. No concern or care for me. Mom used to work at a pet store years ago and knows we are just for profit and nobody cares. We just want to warn people and bring awareness to what is happening. SEE IT REPORT IT.

We went in today to look at the animals and noticed that the bunnies did not have hay accessible (hay is a crucial part of a bunny’s diet) as well as had inadequate bedding. The cages were clean but not proper for bunnies. As well there was an open cage with a Guinea pig inside. The cage was low and allowed for people to touch the animal. The Guinea pig did not have room to hide. I do not believe it is fair to let everyone touch a caged animal who on top of this can not hide. For these reasons I would not recommend this pet shop.

Does not care for animals appropriately. On multiple occasions, I have seen rabbits in pens without water or hay, and with inappropriate bedding. Please do not shop here. The way they treat animals is disgusting. They are clearly not cared for properly. I have never seen a guinea pig or bunny there with a single piece of hay. For guinea pigs hay is 90% of their diet. Animals look miserable. Poor betta fish are kept in tiny cups all next to each other with no barriers. Really depressing atmosphere. No idea how it's still open.

If I could give 0 stars I would. This place is negligent to their animals. Rabbits not even having access to hay- which is 80% of their diet. The bales were directly behind the small cage, yet they couldn’t even put a pile in with the rabbit? Pets being sold way too young, not having adequate supply of water, wood shavings when those are known to cause respiratory issues in rabbits. Purchasing pets from puppy mills. Not separating by gender, not caring about the harm they’re causing the animals both physically and emotionally, and more. There was a petition with over 26,000 signatures to shut them down. That should say enough. I have yet again reported them to animal welfare and will be contacting other agencies as well. This place needs to be shut down as soon as possible. This is abuse.

This place has a lengthy reputation of abusing animals, selling sick pets, etc. I can only speak to the care of the rabbits I've witnessed but have seen many other comments saying the same thing about the birds, fish, and other small animals they sell. The bunnies are often TINY, way too young to be away from their moms and often become sick later on for this reason. They are not given hay at all, water bottles are empty, and pens are often set up at the front of the store for people to interact with the rabbits. Rabbits are prey animals and stress very easily. This might be fun for customers who don't know any better but the store should absolutely know better. The combined mistreatment, lack of knowledge and care, selling sick animals, is abusive and neglectful. Please consider adopting an animal from a rescue and buying your pet supplies elsewhere!

I bought a blue quaker Perot there 1 year almost exactly ago! Went back a few days ago to see another blue Quaker there for 975$! When I saw the price I was shock cause I paid mine 1800$ so when I ask the guy that work there why that bird cost 975$ and I paid mine 1800$ he said that’s not possible cause he bring all the bird in and then reply you bought the cage with it and I reply no just the bird and then he seem very confused! I let go the situation cause I did call a few days later to talk to the owner but obviously he his gone on a trip somewhere and not available so I did have a chat with the manager in store and obviously she kinda new before I call the store about the situation cause she told me a blue Quaker vary in prices between 1000-2000$ a bird! That’s phoney baloney! We been looking on market place and they go around 700-900 a peace plus we just bought out second one on the Quebec side for 699$! Never again you will have my business! I know that it must of been an error that they new about it! Or the sale lady that was there that day dint not know a clue about anything just taking our money!! Never gain please do your due diligence before your spend that kind of money on any animal!

Everybody who shops at the mall with no intention of buying animals goes that store, and because people dont know much about animlas they think that they can say what they think is true. But honestly there care is good. I own thousands of animlas in my reptile zoo, and when I was on my buissnes trip to Ottawa from my mansion in Iceland I saw the pet store and loved it. Inverts and reptiles are well taken care of and I would recommend going there for high end inverts.

This was the best place ever they don't have pet store in Sauga where I'm from anymore so I was so excited to see this I was coming from winners and the saw this super cute bunnys in the front then I went in and there are cute birds I was tempted to buy one cause there actually cheap like 40 bucks which was surprising its a nice place to walk around and look at the cute animals

Hidden gem in the bayshore mall. Such a cute shop with pets like bunnies, hamsters and goldfish. They have variety of birds like parrots and sparrows which you can buy and provide them a beautiful home. They also have all kinds of food and toys for your lovely pets.

A basic small pet store. Not much selection but will do in a pinch.

It's a pet store. Not sure what people expected. Unhealthy and dead pets are quietly disposed just like any other pet store. That being said, the conditions for the animals are less than ideal, humans in similar conditions would commit suicide but these animals can't even kill themselves. Perhaps it would be better if the store is shut down and the animals are euthanized, we already push MAID for Canadians why not extend it to the pets at the pet store?

They sell fish (by one) in sealed plastic bags. No air, no food, no company. What do they do if fish are not sold by the end of the day?.. This made me extremely sad. I felt terrible long after seeing this. Animals shouldn’t be treated like that. Don’t buy from them, don’t support this kind of behaviour

They have guinea pigs housed alone which is frowned upon, makes them depressed. Also the fish in the tiniest cups, what a life to live, should be illegal.

If you want to be refreshed on the cruelness of humanity, go to Pet World. Terrible conditions for all the animals, and looking at these conures you can see evidence of their mistreatment. The turquoise GCC has stress bars and ragged feathers (circled), probably because of the seed diet they feed all the birds. This crimson bellied conure has a torn and destroyed tail. (And of course, all of the birds have had their wings mutilated.) I don’t know what’s sadder, the fact that this store is open or the fact that the city refuses to shut it down.

IT WAS VERY SAD TO ENTER THE STORE AND SEE FISH INSIDE PLASTIC CUPS ABOUT TO DIE DUE TO LACK OF OXYGEN... IT IS A SHAME THAT THEY ALLOW THIS TYPE OF ANIMAL ABUSE.
