😠 I STRONGLY recommend to stay away from this gym. They suddenly closed the location I signed up at 3 months into my membership, and refused to refund any part of the $1200 membership fee. This gym does not act in good faith. People often mention OAMA, great, instructors, martial, Ottawa, family, people, train, arts, training,

The fine folks at OAMA truly welcome your kids into their family. The afterschool program is fantastic, and my son attended summer programs for years as well. The Birthday parties are so much fun! We have been a part of the OAMA family since 2014, and are looking forward to continuing! The senseis truly care about how you are doing, and help you with your goals. Coach Jo did an amazing self defense class with quite a motley crew. We had an amazing time and learned so much!

Ssoo disappointing. Went for my first class and there were only a couple people. The instructor was no help at all, didn't even tell me what equipment to use or where to find it. Some other guy in the class ended up explaining everything to me while the instructor was sparing. Overall terrible experience.

Can't stress how much people should avoid this place. The cancellation policy is absolutely ridiculous (If I remember correctly, it was about 6), and I don't find the instructors particularly engaging.

Ali was fantastic in providing information prior to doing the trial and for the sign up process. The different senseis for the tiny tigers program are patient, they ensure the kids are active and having fun while starting to instill the fundamentals of martial arts and some discipline. The most important thing for me is that my son really likes it and wants to go back frequently.

I've been training here since January and I don't see myself changing schools anytime soon. I'm hooked. The instructors are full time professionals in their disciplines, and they are all very approachable and will make time for students. They always emphasize the students are a team. We are all there to support each other and challenge our training partners to raise their levels! Many of the students compete regularly in regional, national, and international tournaments. The quality of the student body is high. When I attend class I feel like I'm learning from people who are professionals at what they do, which is literally true for some. Everyone who trains and teaches here follows a tone of respect too. I hope to get many years of training here!

Owner is expanding and is not present for most sessions. Teen trainers for all kids classes. Lack of attention to detail. Expensive for what you get.

Shady people running a shady business that will take advantage of good people. They preach about being better but forget to look at themselves in the mirror. They will steal your money and then some so please avoid this gym at all cost.

I had the pleasure of dealing with Tracy while enrolling my two boys in summer camp. I decided in July to send them to their grandparents in Canada, and it was virtually impossible to find a space in any summer camp. I explained the situation to Tracy, relayed how much they enjoy martial arts and attend classes weekly here in the Caribbean. She found a way to make it work. For that I am incredibly grateful, it was the break I needed during this Covid nightmare. Thank you OAMA - I look forward to recommending you in the future!

Our son started off his Jiu-Jitsu journey nearly 10 years ago at 6 years old at the Ottawa location. We moved out to Rockland 5 years ago and he's now 16 and a Sensei teaching the kids classes at the Rockland location. None of his Jiu-Jitsu accomplishments would have been possible without the support of this team. Professor Hammer Hache came all the way out on our sons 16th birthday, during the pandemic, to surprise him with a belt promotion to his black belt. This is the reason every member calls this team a Family! Our family is all happy and proud to have them part of our lives and Family.

No words i can say would do this place justice. You have to come and feel it, hear it and smell it. Its unmistakable, unmissable. I recommend OAMA to everyone I meet bc of the atmosphere, the positive coaching, the values expressed by the owner(s), but also because its a lot of fun, ive met some amazing people/friends, and i know how much im benefit physically and mentally

I've been a member here for the past 9 months and cannot say enough good things about OAMA. The instructors are world-class and their dedication to the club is unreal. There's such a great vibe here, the members you roll with become family and you help each other advance and improve. It's such a humbling experience and I highly suggest it for everyone; kids to seniors and everything in between. They offer a free week for anyone that wants to try it out and it's a great way to see how you like it. Everyone is friendly and it makes it so easy to jump in and have fun. If you're considering it, don't think any longer, just stop by!

It is always hard to find a martial arts school where you feel comfortable, safe, and valued. OAMA is that place! Every time I go to BJJ classes, Matt and Justin greed me with a big smile and a positive attitude. Coaches are always making sure you give your 120% while taking care of yourself and others. Their devotion and willingness to contribute to the lives of students is really impressive. I am so happy I am training here!

I called in a few days ago to get some really basic information ( Yearly cost & schedule) first thing the lady says is that I wont be able to get a refund in a really rude way. I was really confused and assured her a refund is not what I want, I just want to train. She continued to be rude to me while answering my questions, i thanked her and told her to have a nice day. She never asked me any information about me and didn't even invite me to come check it out. Lost a customer and wouldn't recommend this place ever. I also would never want my kids at this place regarding the fact Martial Arts is suppose to be about all about respect and discipline. I honestly felt like whoever i spoke to basically spat in my face.

The staff and members at OAMA are amazing! The instructors, many of which are active competitors themselves, truly care about their students development not only as a martial artists, but as people. They have created such an open and welcoming environment. The relationships my daughter and I have formed are remarkable. You are not joining a gym, you're joining an family.

At OAMA, you will find people who know a great deal about their respective martial art, and people who just love on others. Very welcoming, knowledgeable, talented, and kind. If you want to be apart of family and grow at the same time in so many ways, this is the one to be apart of by far!

My child had an excellent experience with the after school program at the Carling location. They loved it and were very well taken care of by all the staff. As parents, we were thrilled that OAMA filled a void when the bus was cancelled and we were scrambling to figure out a solution. It was very well organized and Tracy and Brianne always responded so quickly whenever I had questions. Cannot recommend highly enough!

Sensei Hammer, Aaron, Amy, Justin, Jo, and Eric, the whole team is honestly the nicest people I’ve met in my life with a whole lotta experience to back it haha you’d never expect these kind folks to be good at wrecking pads boxing bags and faces but they’re the best of the best if you have any worries that these guys won’t give you the best quality training in all of Ottawa let them be quelled as all the reviews will tell you these guys are the real deal and no one in Ottawa cares about the team like they do.

One of the best dojo's in the country and definently in the Ottawa region. Being military, I've bounce around many different places and OAMA strikes a perfect balance between a family friendly dojo and a legit competitive dojo. They offer classes to suit everyone. It has given my family something to bond over and has brought us closer together. On a more recent note, the way they have handled the current COVID crisis showed their out most professionalism and care/concern for the community.

My relationship with Ottawa Academy of Martial Arts is not of a student, but rather of someone with a business relationship with the school's leadership. My interactions with the leaders--particularly Alysa--have been great. They are professional, responsive, kind, and extremely passionate about providing their students with the best experience and tools. Based on our professional relationship, I can just imagine how much care they have for their students at Ottawa Academy of Martial Arts. I would recommend them to anyone looking for martial arts instruction in the area.

Ottawa Academy of Martial Arts (OAMA) is our family away from home. We have trained as a family: Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, & Fitness classes. The staff truly cares. They provide world class training as well as mentoring. I cannot say enough good things about OAMA!

I can't recomend this place enough. It's by far the best martial arts club in Ottawa and surrounding area. The instruction is top notch and the absolute highest level (the top jiujitsu instructors got their black belts from Renzo Gracie himself and the thai boxing instructors trained in Thailand), tons of classes all day, wide range of students of all skill levels to train with, friendly and encouraging atmosphere, great for kids, there's always events, seminars and fight nights they put on you can attend. Students travel all over the country and US competiting and winning. You can come here to train as a hobby, to get in shape, to compete or even go pro (students/instructors have fought in the UFC, Invicita, Glory Kickboxing and other pro and amateur organizations all over the world). There are 5 locations so there is most likely a club near you. There should be more stars to rate this place!

OAMA is amazing for both bjj and muay thai. The instructors and students really make the atmosphere welcoming and are very patient if you are new to these types of martial arts. We moved to a new neighborhood and found ourselves unable to secure a spot for our kindergartener in the after-school program at his new school. OAMA to the rescue! Their sign-up is flexible, they do a very safe pick up in a van (big thrill for a little kid who's only ever walked to school) and the staff and teachers just couldn't be more warm and welcoming. We thought we were just getting ourselves out of a pinch, knowing nothing about martial arts- but it turned out to be so much more and was the #1 factor that eased the transition for our son with a big move and a lot of changes. Our kiddo is continuing with lessons and we're so grateful this resource is here in the community.

Great atmosphere, instructors take their time to teach the technique in a fashion even a novice like me could understand. The training was helpful while also being very intense. The students I rolled with were quick to offer me advice and I never felt belittled for my lack of knowledge. Very welcoming atmosphere. I look forward to going back.

We have been going to OAMA for 3 years and my son absolutely adores the staff and loves going there so much that he asked for his birthday party to be hosted by OAMA. We had a pretty big list of guests but these super heroes were able to accommodate us and did an amazing job keeping the kids entertained while teaching them some martial arts basics and respect for their environment and all for a very affordable and reasonable price. All the parents were so impressed and now they want to have all their birthday parties hosted by OAMA! You guys are great! We feel like we are part of a family when we are OAMA. Wouldn't have it any other way 😊
