I thought this place would be good but I didn't expect it to be this good. I don't know if I'm being dramatic but I think this was probably in the top 3 of the best foods I've ever had. Also the service was great! Everyone was super professional and although the restaurant was nearly full, I felt like we were the only ones there based on how well our servers treated us. They also offered us a cup of hot chai as we sat down which was much needed coming in from the -10°C snowy weather outside! The portions here are fantastic and I cannot stress enough how good the food is. I don't even know which of the three dishes that we ordered was my favourite because they were all so good. Also the cocktail list was a great surprise! An extensive list of specialty cocktails that all sounded delicious and the few that we had were delicious. I wish we could have had one of everything on the menu. I can't wait to come back!!

This was our first time ordering from this restaurant and we got pork tenderloins coconut chicken and lamb Popsicles for takeout. The coconut chicken was very good the chicken was very soft and tender and flavourful and the curry that the pork tenderloins were in was very delicious. my partner and I would say that this is the best Indian food we have ever eaten. Do you lamb Popsicles could have been a bit better but I think it is because we ordered pick up and it got a little cold before we ate the food. The potatoes under the lamb Popsicles were very tasty.

UPDATE: Vij's posts a very professional reply to every negative review asking to contact them - presumably for optics. When I sent them an email they simply replied "The staff member has informed me on what happened." Not only are their staff rude, this email interaction indicates to me that they are also inconsiderate of patrons' time. After the email interaction initiated by Vij's, I've decreased my rating from 2 to a 1 only because I can't rate them 0. ORIGINAL REVIEW: The food was top class but my experience at this restaurant was greatly depreciated by the staff’s needlessly snobby and rude attitude. It started with the hostess ordering me to store my (dry) umbrella near the entrance. When I said I’d rather keep it, she warned me not to poke other patrons with it - what is this, a crèche? We were given the worst table in the restaurant and when we asked to change it, the staff insisted on bringing out appetizers first and telling us about them at length instead of addressing our request. Not to mention mispronouncing the dishes names despite working at an Indian restaurant. When I said I’d rather get the appetizers at our new table, the waitress reassured me the appetizers are complimentary? Talk about cognitive dissonance.

The best Indian food I had. Enjoyed every dish we had. The servers were all very friendly and professional. We ate more than we could handle but everything tasted so good.

Last time I’ve visited Vijs was at their old location long a** time ago. At that time there were line ups people waiting hours and food was amazing. We finally had a chance to visit again today. We had a reservation for 5 for dinner. There is inside dining area and covered roof top patio. Where we were sat was a very small table for 4 but we were 5 people then they ended up switching us to bigger table afterwards. Inside is extreme dark, and patio was brighter and more airy. You can choose which atmosphere you like to be in. We ordered salmon appy, beef&lamb kebabs, lingcod/lamb/goat/chicken/beef/veg curry with many drinks. All the food was Luke warm. Nothing was hot. Maybe we misheard but they said it comes with rice and nann with 5 curry dishes we ordered and we got 4 pieces of nann and one bowl of rice. I think we ordered 5 extra after. We got the Indian donut they called it, that was warm and present. Not too sweet and one bite size. Mango kulfi was mangoy and creamy. Coconut rice pudding was a good portion and delicious. Overall service was good but the food came out really late and Luke warm to cold which wasn’t nice. Not sure if I would be back but we still had a good time.

We returned after 16 years and weren’t disappointed. The service was impeccable and we appreciated that the owner genuinely cares about the guest’s experience. It’s like he has welcomed you into his home with love. The food was deliciously flavorful, and the portions are generously sized. The wine selection was excellent. My son thought the lamp popsicles were perfect.

Definitely not what I was expecting. Food was mediocre. I'd prefer tasty Indian bistro over vij's. Overpriced for the quality. Small portions. But service was great.

Hands down best service I’ve ever had. Upon being seated at least 3 different servers has greeted us. A few more through out the night checked in. Even the owner visits every table to say hello! We couldn’t decide what to get as they are so many great options, so we let the server surprise us! The lamb and curry was delicious!

Absolutely amazing! Flavors are just mind blowingly good. The lamb popsicles are the best lamb I have ever had. The spices are all about flavours not just heat. The drinks....wow so tasty and refreshing Also the staff was fantastic!

Authentic Indian food at reasonable price. I love their layout and ceiling light fixtures. Service was superb and fast. I was surprised to see a full restaurant despite the struggling restaurant business. Another indication of good food and management.

It was ok. “Fusion” Indian if you want to call it that, with a west coast vibe. Waiter had attitude thinking this was real Indian food - not quite lol. I prefer traditional authentic Indian cuisine. Not one Indian customer, that tells the story. Good rice & naan. Service very prompt and friendly. People like to chill out front and smoke weed, try not to get mugged.

Normally I love Vij’s. But tonight we watched people who were not even seated until after we ORDERED, that got their food before us. We waited over an hour between appetizer and main. I know it’s a busy night but there was absolutely zero apology from the server, in fact the server blamed us for not eating the starter fast enough (we were trying to save room for mains), and we waited over an hour between appetizer and main - the server never came back to check on us. When the main came we weren’t even hungry anymore. Got charged full price even after Vij himself came out and we complained to him. I normally love this restaurant but this was very disappointing.

The restaurant is conveniently located in Langley city centre at 2686 Langdon St. It emanates a friendly atmosphere: waiters and waitresses approaching customers with a smiling face. Good service. What impresses me most is the Greek setting! Once you push open the door, you seemingly enter a dreamland of ancient Greek with white marble statues and mythological images in fancy purple golden lighting. Food is fantastic! I love their Greek dressing for salad - “Umm, ca sont bon!” and “ces’t delicieux!”

Our family has grown up loving the Lamb Popsicles dish at Vij's when they were at their original location. I wanted to treat mom to our favorite dish so we picked up takeout from Vij's. Since the old days, Vij's now offer the Lamb Popsicles as a small dish as oppose to an entrée. We were confused and actually phoned them to clarify. The employee who answered our call advised that since the dish is so popular, people wanted to try other dishes yet have a small portion of the classic which they now offer. Mom was happy when we surprised her with the Lamb Popsicles. There was ample rice and naan included with the meal. The Lamb Popsicles in Fenugreek Cream Curry was as delicious as we remembered. The samosas were fresh and flavorful. Most importantly, mom was happy and full. Get this dish when you're here!

Vij's is an experience! [Location and Parking] it was a 7 minute walk from the Skytrain, which wasn't bad at all. It's on a busy bus route as well. Not sure if they have their own lot, but there's plenty of parking in the area, [Accessibility] there's a ramp to the front entrance, and there's a lower level with washrooms that is wheelchair friendly. Some steps to a second level. [Atmosphere] it was busy at 8pm on a Saturday. They play good Indian music at a comfortable level for conversation. The decor is classic, and the mood is set nicely with tea lights. [Service] Top notch service! I really appreciated how mindful and accommodating they were of our food allergy. Everyone working there was very kind and helpful, especially Becca, who served us. [Food] the pork spoon with apple-mint chutney and the lamb Popsicles were super delicious. Everything we ate played with every part of the taste buds. I highly recommend Vij's!

All the foods was excellent! I’ve never tried goat meat so we ordered it (forgot the dish name)it’s very tender and that goes well with curry sauce. Especially I loved eggplant menu and lamb popsicles. These foods remind me when I traveled India long time ago. Brings back all the wonderful memories of ethnic foods I’ve tried in India. The best indian restaurant in Vancouver.

This was overall fine, but more disappointing than expected. The service was shockingly slow and busy, and a lot of customers were visibly angry, but I’ll give an extra two stars for Mr. Vij (the owner and celebrity chef, who works there)‘s energetic personality and his love for food. The atmosphere is fantastic and I personally loved the presentation. As for the food, we took lamb chops and Bengali chicken curry. I personally loved the lamb chops(their speciality), which were really flavorful and smoky. As for the Bengali curry, it was overall bland for me, but children may like it more, as Mr. Vij says. Overall the food just needs a bit more for five stars, but this restaurant is a great experience.

Nice welcome by host when you enter and for the record reservation yourself first because that’s a very busy restaurant 😇. And if you don’t find parking near by then search on Google 😇. Food is absolutely yummy must try beef and lamb kebab. Chef is really down to earth he meets everyone to make sure everything is perfect and believe me it is top notch from the point you enter and you leave Thank you (Chef)Mr. Vikram Vij for the delicious food and amazing experience And last our tonight host Moe she is so kind and explains perfectly about food. Thanks Moe

Attentive staff, friendly owner, good vibe. Food was also really good, some dishes a lot more than others. For a restaurant of that status, some things were underwhelming, especially the consistency of the naan

Went to this place after all the Michelin hype, but it was disappointing. None of the flavors stood out. If this is your first time trying indian food, then may be it is ok. For me, it was below average and not worth the price.

We met the man himself! Vij welcomed us into the restaurant as it opened and he stopped by our table three different times to check in on our meal and have friendly chats about where we were from (Portland) and what we liked about the meal. The service was awesome, with attentive but not hovering staff. The curries were all amazing. The one that comes with the paneer is like the most luxurious, creamy tomato soup you could imagine. The one that comes with the famous lamb "popsicles" was amazing as well! I'd highly recommend this place to anyone looking for the best of Vancouver: sustainable, locally sourced ingredients paired with amazing global recipes.

I had maybe the best curry ever here - the sauce was so rich and flavourful! I only wished it was spicier. The space is very classy and the staff were so friendly. However, food here was a bit more expensive than I expected (~$20 for vegetarian mains), especially because it was advertised as a more casual version of the original Vij's, so I would only come back for special occasions or as a treat.

The food is delicious, however 2 of the staff, a men with longer hair and a lady with a floral dress serving us left a bad impression. He ignored us waiving trying to order a few more and stopped at another table for no reason, and ignoring even when we asked him to stop. The next table even noted and smiled at us. The lady was cold, not just with us, no smile, very blunt, no pleasure in doing the job. This was our 1st visit and I dont know if this is the tone of this place, but maybe they treat people bad during happy hours, only????

The buttery curry plus the tender ribs surprised me in the best way. They probably also have the best naan on earth. Super chewy and delicious. I was so full but still finished the whole thing as I just couldn’t stop! The express lunch menu was also super worth the money. The pakoras were the best pakoras I’ve had, esp with that magical dressing.

Was unfortunately very disappointed after getting our food through skip the dishes. Ordered a lamb and chicken curry and both curries were incredibly salty to the point that we were unable to finish the dish. Don't know if it was a bad batch or things have changed due to the social isolation protocol but was really looking forward to the food yesterday =(.

Indian restaurant with the most unique menu I have ever seen! For starters we had Kale+jackfruit , peas+lentils and potato+pepper veg samosas which were absolutely delicious. Entre included a selection of jackfruit/kale/cauliflower/potato curry combo and blackpeas/onion coconut curry both of which did not disappoint ( although we had our reservations about the selection ;) ) they also have masala chai(refill) which was a life saver on the snow day! Thanks @vijsrangoli for showcasing that Indian food is much more than paneer dishes and chana masala with Naan. Amazing and friendly staff too.She offered to give me a to go chai cup for re fill since it was raining. Totally worth the 25 mins bus ride to restaurant . Will definitely recommend if you are in Vancouver.

Good but not great Indian restaurant in the south Granville area. They recently moved next door to larger but not very nice place. There is no more takeout section. The food is still good but getting more expensive. This place is getting frustrating lately. Higher prices and small serving sizes is annoying. It is getting hard to recommend this place to anyone. The owner is never around anymore like in the past.

We were in the neighborhood with 2 hours of parking... so we thought we might as well hang around a bit longer. We found this restaurant which my partner hasn’t been to for a long time and I have never been to, the service is so good, super fast, maybe because they are well staffed, we have at least 5 people waited our table! Besides, the food is amazing! Especially the beef short rib... my partner makes pretty darn good beef short ribs, but this one is beyond that... see photos Downside, needs more lightings in the hallway, couldn’t see anything when went to the bathroom.

It’s as good as most reviews state. Lovely atmosphere with good lighting and ambience. Our waiter was helpful, charming and guided us well with ordering. We shared a starter of jackfruit with cardamom and cumin, followed by 3 smaller dishes of goat, spicy lamb and trout curries.

Heard a lot of good stuff about Vij's so decided to try it out. We visited the restaurant during the COVID era so the menu was altered. They had an option on the menu that one could pick 4 small sample foods as their main course. The food arrived in really distasteful metal trays, almost like prison trays and was a disappointment. We had sit on the patio and the chairs were not comfortable at all and our servers weren't attentive either. None of my guests had finished their food either and we left hungry.

(Translated by Google) There were many kinds of hamas and they were all delicious. I especially liked the tomato-based Hamas. The bread was delicious and the volume was solid! We arrived at 6 on a Saturday night and while I expected to have to wait we were able to be seated right away. The service was efficient and unobtrusive. The chai is delicious and the food did not disappoint. I believe the menu changes regularly but one of us had lamb and the other chicken and both of us were well pleased. Simply wonderful. A snowy vancouver noon ladies lunch. Chai Latte. Kale jackfruit curry. Talky talk. Even got to exchange thank you’s with Vij

Eh.. I really like this place but wasn’t too impressed with my last meal.. it’s awesome they’re still doing takeout these days, and last week I got a meal from the express lunch menu at the price shown (because they’re not open at lunch anyways) and it was awesome. Tried again tonight and when I went to pay I was told the dinner time price was $25. A small amount of curry, rice, and a shot glass sized salad sure doesn’t seem like a $25 meal to me. The dinner sized price doesn’t include a dinner sized amount of food I guess?

Best lamb samosa. Just unbelievably tasty. Crispy pastry and juicy sweet sweet lamb on the inside. Anything you chose on the menu is going to be great. Yes, it's a little bit pricey, but I've eaten here many times and plan to keep coming back because it's worth it!! Thanks for amazing food and samosas!

Less than impressed by this place. First impression, a bit surprised to walk into a restaurant that was almost empty on a Friday evening. Going over the menu, you can see the chef’s arrogance - exorbitant prices and bold combinations that sound fancy, however, fail to deliver on taste. We ordered 4 dishes from the menu and all 4 dishes were sadly underwhelming. You can see that they make a huge effort to not be classified as a traditional Indian restaurant and for the food NOT to taste authentic. I wonder how Chef Vij would classify his own food? We certainly tasted the uncertainty in flavour. Final note on service, for the price that is being charged, one would expect the service staff to check in after the food is served- did not happen 20 minutes into service, especially when the place was not busy.

I got the chickpeas and eggplant in fenugreek curry. Overall, it was not a bad dish, just nothing special. My only complaints are that the eggplant was a little too burnt, and the portion was a little small for the price. I won't be coming back, because the dish just wasn't worth the price I paid.

A fave Vancouver staple of mine for years. It’s more casual, less share-plate oriented and inexpensive than its Vij’s counterpart, but deee-liciously satisfying with great service. Definitely start with the Mogo fries, you can’t go wrong with any of the mains. ...annnnnd since you’re still reading my amazing review, ask for the Meeti Roti (sp?) dessert. It’s not on the menu anymore but it’s very yum and they just might make it for you.

Great restaurant with great service! My friends and I went here for lunch. There was a lunch menu and a regular one. We ordered food from both menus. I ordered curry chicken with naan. My friends ordered beef and chicken respectively. Unfortunately I didn’t have a chance to take a photo of the food. The presentation of the food was great. I could see how the chef put an effort to make the dish look good. The flavour of my chicken curry was authentic but the naan seemed to be very thick like bread, which was a bit different from the ones that I had in Surrey. The customer service was great that servers always dropped by and made sure if we were having no problems and if our food was good. They continued to pour water into our cups and made sure we had enough water all the time. Overall this is a high end Indian restaurant. The chef and owner changed from a normal dish into a fantastic one. The pricing was reasonable (especially at this loss CSS action). I would recommend you could come here for lunch or dinner with friends or even family.

Way overpriced food. Not tasty either compared to Aishas in Dubia. We were oversold food portions which would have served four people. The server said there was a four small plate special per person. We should have ordered one four plate special to share. As a result we Spent $124 on food a wine half if which we threw away when we took the rest home. We would not recommend this restaurant.

I've been to Vij's a couple times and it always been amazing. Spectacular food and good service. It was these experiences that drove me to order it for my birthday during the covid crisis. I don't know what so say except their takeout is really subpar. Not at all what I experienced when i ate in. While I understand that takeout lacks the same ambiance, that just couldn't excuse the lack of effort put into their food: dull, grey and under-spiced. The samosa was good but Bengali Beef and Spiced Lamb tasted bland (and oddly the same). I'll wait for them to open back up and hope they'll be back up to their A game.

Very disappointing. Waited for drinks for far too long, cold food (pakora, samosa and chickpea appies), put someone else’s drink on my bill by mistake, charged me for another person’s drink they didn’t like (the kitchen was going to dump it) so I drank it. Forgot about our papadam and only brought it when asked where it was. Our meal was nearly over!!! Very inconsiderate, tacky and cheap! Did not take the cold food off the bill, only offered to remake it. Unacceptable! Even restaurants 1/5th price don’t charge for things like that. Why? Because they understand hospitality and want repeat business. This place didn’t care about us and neglected us. The reservation staff went above and beyond. That’s the experience I’m used to here. Unfortunately that was the highlight - booking our table! Our waiter and waitress were very friendly. The coconut veg curry was delicious. (Main course) $150 for this?! :( Last time I was here was magical. What happened :( I won’t be back again.

Braised beef is to die for!!! Service is impeccable...I had tasted 3 food items before I'd even picked up a menu! The wait for your food is short and your dishes/cutlery between servings is quickly and politely cleared. Wait staff is very drink knowledgeable too. Got to meet Vij as well as he stopped by our table to check in. Love this restaurant!

Use to be my fave place in Vancouver. Amazing Indian fusion. Great creativity, great vibe. Only thing: But the last couple of time I visited, I felt the main courses were way too salty. I mentioned it to the waiters.

Cold, flavourless Indian food served in a tin tray. Was shocked how below average this place was. It was like they microwaved the naan bread, and microwaved to warm a few curries. Barely as everything was cold. Service was friendly but really slow. Oh and the deep fryer wasn’t working for the gulab. I remember the days when Vij was a top spot. This is the second poor experience, maybe Covid helped this but pre covid it was on its way down. Sad to see.

Lovely place if you enjoy Indian food. Dishes have excellent balanced flavor between ingredients and Indian spices. Lots of vegas dishes but also have some meat dishes. Both lamb and beef dishes have a wonderful fall-off-the-bone texture. Good selection of drinks too.

Food and experience was okay. The food didn't really stand out for the prices they're asking for. I previously had a better experience back at their old South Granville location a long time ago, not sure what's changed. Maybe it depends on what you order. The curry that came with the lamb posicles was delicious. The lamb itself was okay. Braised beef was good but super spicy. Samosa good. Mango lassi good. Nice gesture with the free samplers.

It was our first time visiting Vij's. Their service was genuine and were following safety protocols for everyone which we were impressed and felt comfortable. Food was amazing! We got both vegetarian and meat Thali with 8 different menus and enjoyed every single bite of it all! Ambiance was lovely and wish to dine out at their outdoor (or balcony) area next time. Thank you for your great service and food ?

Went there after 4 years, and hands down its my favorite restaurant. Sorry Indian accent you are better but long distance relationship is killing it ?. Food tastes good, servers were great and drinks were good. Dal in saag paneer was delicious, starters were good, the roasted eggplant though it was super small but tasty very smoky. A good experience for a happy time.

We stumbled upon this gem Friday night as we were seeing a show at ArtsClub right around the corner. Vij’s Rangoli is a fabulous restaurant with a casual but professional vibe. My husband is gluten intolerant so we were very happy to find so many gluten free options. We started with the pakoras with a zesty date and tamarind chutney (a delicious and generous portion) and the Kofta - Pork, Zucchini, Carrot with a spicy sour cream sauce. Their house white is flavourful and pleasant and perfectly complemented our appetizers. We shared the Coconut curry lamb and the Chicken Bengali which came in a delicious Creamy cumin sauce. Rather than naan bread, gluten free Corn chapatis were provided. We chose a BC Merlot which was recommended and was a perfect choice with the mains. Not being dessert people, we ordered a second Kofta to complete our feast - so yummy!! Many thanks to our servers - Parker & Paul for their personable and professional attention. Highly recommended!

Some of my family have been going to this restaurant for over twenty years. I was only introduced to it several years ago, but it is now one of my very favourites. Vij's food is his own unique take on Indian cuisine that I can't find anywhere else — and it is delicious. The staff are friendly, quick, and observant. The environment is pleasant and cozy. Vij himself is friendly and truly cares about his restaurant and the experience he provides to his customers. (Vij isn't above clearing tables when he sees one in need of clearing. I like that in an owner.) I find the food to be worth its price, made by well-treated staff with quality ingredients. I will be happy to eat at Vij's for years to come.

  • 2/5 F S. 3 years ago on Google
They are trying to do some kind of fusion cuisine. Unfortunately, they have no clue what they are doing. The fish curry we ordered was the worst fish or curry we ever had. Insanely overpriced as well. Their sister restaurant next door is way better.

Vij's is a nice, up class place that has tasty food. I came here with my girlfriend for her birthday and we really enjoyed our meal. I was disappointed that even though staff knew it was her birthday there wasn't anything special done. Something simple like a surprise dessert with a candle -- that I know most other places of this calibre do -- makes it special. I recommend this place and will be back for the food, but won't take anyone here for a birthday meal.

My first experience with Indian food was really good, but unfortunately, I wasn’t used to the herbs and all my internal organs were like on fire. so I haven’t had Indian food since 🥺🥺 But my friend assured me that Vij’s is a more toned down version with a fusion twist. We ordered the “Thali” at Vij’s which we get to choose four dishes from the entire menu. my friend and I strategically ordered two Thali trays and had 7 different dishes to sample with. Other than the goat, everything was really impressive. My favourite was the lamb in cumin coconut curry (which we made sure to order one from each tray - wise decision) and the beef in Bengali style creamy curry. They also offer chai tea as a complimentary to everyone at the table. My friend decided to be adventurous and ordered the “nice guy chai” cocktail which he praised highly of. Overall, it was a very fun experience. Thank you @eatdrinkvijs for the wonderful meal with the lovely fusion twist, and making it possible for me to enjoy it fully without any agony 🤣 Price: $45 pp Overall Taste: 4.2 / 5 Atmosphere: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Seating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Price Performance ratio: 3 / 5

First time coming everything about this restaurant is excellent! Upon arrival we were gifted with complimentary nice cup of chai tea and some small apps. The staff is informative, patient, non judgemental delivering quality service from all staff members in this restaurant. Excellect food quality with aromatic flavors not too spicy or hot with the right temperature. Washrooms are extremely clean with nice hand towels at your disposal. Very relaxing environment with its modern and subtle design with hints of authentic decor. Socail distancing at its best but not so obvious as u still feel like you are at a restaurant before covid providing so much space. I felt quite safe with all staff wearing masks. Very surprised they dont charge more for thier dishes! Best mango lassi I've tried in my life! What really impressed me was that they serve Canadian grass fed beef!! My kind of place and we're coming back! Thank you for having such a great quality restaurant and my boyfriend was the one suggested it because he has come here many times on other dates..and because of his fine pallete I decided to take care of the bill and reward him for taking me to a place he knows I would really enjoy..

  • 1/5 moldyzombie7 3 years ago on Google
I read today that your owner is asking for an apology from Dr. Bonnie and other health officials because the last minute NYE restrictions made you lose out on your reservations. HUH? So let me get this straight, YOU decided to take reservations at your restaurant, AFTER the pandemic became bad again and the idea of a second lockdown was floating around, and now you’re demanding an apology because they had no choice but to put the restrictions in place? This makes no sense to me. I won’t touch this restaurant at all after hearing about this and will tell everyone I know that you decided to endanger others lives during this pandemic and are now selfishly demanding an apology. Disgusting.

Vij’s is a long established and famous Indian restaurant. The atmosphere is amazing inside, great for first dates or date night. Although there’s usually a long line up outside the restaurant just right before they open. The staff are super knowledgeable, attentive and friendly. When you first sit down they have a lot of complimentary canapés going around the dining room, like pakoras. They also offer free chai tea. I think it’s a nice touch and acts as an amuse bouche. I would compare the portions to Japanese izakaya portions. While the mains are on the pricey side, they do come with rice and nann bread. All the dishes were very flavourful and clean, not greasy at all like some fast take out Indian restaurants can taste. Overall it’s a very enjoyable experience and the ambiance sets the night for a date.

We ventured to the world-renowned Vij's our first night in Vancouver. Really great value for money and food was quite good. My husband and I got the veggie and meat thali, so could try several dishes. We did enjoy the lamb popsicle. The samosas were good but very heavy. The chai tea was delicious and we had two servings each of it! It's a nice gesture for Vij's to serve chai and small appetizers (pakoras) pre-meal. Overall would recommend Vij's!

  • 4/5 W s. 3 years ago on Google
They offered us some chai for starters and we really enjoyed the drinks. I ordered the 2 lamb popsicles and my friend ordered a veg Thali. I liked their garlic naan and rice. For my lambs, one of them was really salty as I couldn’t even finish it but the curry sauce was delicious. I didn’t try the Thali so I couldn’t comment on that meal. I’d defo come back to try their Thali tho!

Absolutely amazing! For all those that reviewed just the food, you completely missed the mark. What makes this restaurant so special is their small attention to detail; their friendly and coordinated staff (everytime my cup was getting empty, the waiter was already there with some more water), their ambiance, and covid friendly menus (all accessible via smartphone). I also advised the waiter of my allergies, and he recommended dishes that were suitable to me. The food itself was second to none. I ordered the vegetable thali and had 4 very unique vegetarian dishes alongside the BEST naan and rice. The naan was lightly toasted on butter (texture felt similar to bread on a grilled cheese). The food wasnt gimmicky. It was real, and original without losing its Indian roots. The appetizers were amazing. Everything from the texture in your mouth to the temperature of the food was perfect. We had the coconut rice pudding and it was served chilled. Truly one of THE best rice puddings I’ve EVER HAD. Vij’s is a one-of-a-kind gem and truly worth a visit. It is constantly reinventing itself and staying relevant. This is how a restaurant oight to be run. Not just for its food (there are tons of places around town that serve good food), but for its keen attention to detail on the entire dining experience. 6 stars out of 5!

Only down side was there was a really loud guest at an other table, perhaps he was drinking a bit too much.

This family owned establishment is a must for anyone who wants more than a typical chain restaurant can offer. They're servers enjoy serving you and will make adjustments without hesitation. Their goal is making sure your experience is top notch. I've dined here during mostly special occasions and not once have I had a complaint. Well maybe other than they're always so busy. Prices are honestly low considering the quality of food delivered. Meals are never bland and the meat is never over cooked. Greek Islands remains one of my top tier places to eat

  • 3/5 Daniel N. 3 years ago on Google
We decided to stop in and have a nice Greek dinner, we didn't make any reservations but were still able to he seated immediately. The restaurant unfortunately only has one female bathroom, one male bathroom, and one family bathroom. It is nicely decorated and the blue lighting accents really pop out at you. The bar looks amazing but I didn't see any chairs or how you would sit there for drinks? The service was great, fast and made multiple visit to check in with us. The food came out relatively quick although the Greek salad was topped with thousand island dressing I believe, which I have never experienced on my trips to Greece but maybe that's what they decided they liked? The rice had a good flavor to it but was fluffy like when you make minute rice and not to my personal liking. Their tzatziki seemed like it had to much dill and no cucumber. Again maybe it's just different from what I personally have been accustomed to. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for those who are looking for a fun night out of fasting.

Homemade pitas and side soup or salad for 52.00. Great value. The only thing Iwould not do again is the sagonaki. Although good it was overpriced (15.99) compared to many other places and the portion was average. The taste was good though. Definitely will be back though.

I bought dinner for two, and I feel it's a fraud to take your money. We purchased chicken souvlaki. I paid 32 dollars for this. It was a takeout. The quantity of food was less than a half subway that charges me $5, and the quality was worse. I had a few time greek food before, so I am not eating a new dish or first time. Except for chicken, everything else was a mess in taste. I can cook better than this at home. If you spend this amount in any Indian or Chinese restaurant, four people can fill their stomach two times a day. Suppose you don't want to spend a fortune. Don't go there. I do not recommend it to anyone.

One of our favourite places to dine at! Their hospitality and vibe is so warm, with complimentary chai and small bites while you wait for your drinks. Sometimes Vij himself will go from table to table to say hi and check up on everyone, and perhaps throw in a dad joke or two! Very nice and charming guy! In fact, all the staff we’ve encountered during all of our visits were lovely and welcoming. The food is delicious of course! The quality and flavours are consistently good, and portion size is generous—we always leave full and satisfied. Favourites are the Eggplant & Onion Rings appetizer, the classic Lamb Popsicles, and the Mango Kulfi dessert. (We miss the crushed pistachio they used to put on the frozen mango dessert.) I recommend coming here hungry!

Amazing food!! So flavourful. We got to meet Vij himself; what a charismatic host! We had such an excellent time. Our server was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable with all the dishes. If you come with a large party, order “family style” and split a bunch of curries so you can taste everything. This place is an absolute must!

Great experience and awesome food. The eggplant with onion rings, the trout and the Lamb lollipop is excellent and recommended. The staff is wonderful and the owner comes to each table as well. We will come again when in Vancouver.

We got take out and I think everything tasted average. I was disappointed because they didn't have the meat samosa when we tried ordering.

Aside from the overly aggressive lady at checking passports we had a great time. Everyone else was very friendly. For sure don't bring a stroller there's no way to wheel it you need to carry it up stairs.

What a beautiful patio at Vij's! Even on a misty evening, it was warm enough to remove my coat as the patio is heated. I do not like eating with my coat on. The protocols in place are implemented and I felt 100% comfortable dining out. I grew up and still live near Main & 49th and though some Indian restaurants are no longer there, I would say by far, the food at Vij's is really the best. The real treat of the evening Chef Vikram Vij was there going from table to table thanking us for supporting local. We were the first table Chef came by and I noticed him immediately. I helped my husband take a picture with Chef! We both ordered Thali which you choose 4 items (from appetizers and mains). So much to choose from! I chose: rainbow trout, tamarind and yogurt marinated and grilled chicken w/ salad, BC pork tenderloin and one more I can't remember (sorry!). Thali comes with rice and naan bread. The spices and flavour, oh my goodness, I can't describe it as it's so out of this world! Though I don't like spicy food, some of the sauce as a bit too spicy however, I was able to power through. For dessert, we shared almond rice pudding and it was a nice end to our dinner at Vij's. We had an amazing time at Vij's. Support local as much as you can!

Vij’s Restaurant opened in 1994, and over the past 20+ years, has become one of the most well-known and recognized restaurants not just in Vancouver, but across Canada. ✅ Definitely, Vij’s is a different Indian restaurant. From the very beginning you’ll see the difference everywhere from the staff to the food. 🏆 It has won various awards by famous food critiques and newspapers with the top one by Mark Bittman, New York Times. ☑️ The menu is completely different from typical Indian restaurants which makes it more attractive. You have 7 main options & 11 appetizers to choose from that make your job a lot easier. 🤵‍♀️ The staff is really nice & king and you feel the happiness among them. Recommendations: 🟢 Appetizers: Cauliflower, Portobello Mushrooms 🔵 Mains: Lingcod, Lamb Popsicles, Coconut Curried Chicken, Lamb in Cumin *** You’ll definitely experience the difference & fall in love with Dij’s. 👌 Enjoy!

The food was excellent. We were greeted warmly from the start, and received complimentary tea and snacks. The “lamb popsicles” were out of this world amazing! The tea was really aromatic and reminded me of my grandmothers tea. Will definitely go here again when I visit Vancouver again. Please go- even if Indian food isn’t your favourite!

First time at this restaurant. Nice gesture by serving a complimentary appetizer. Based on the overall rating, i had high expectation. However i was not impressed by the ambiance nor by service. The food was nice, but expensive. Appetizer: eggplant, pork spoon and cauliflower Main course: Goat , Lamb and coconut chicken

The lure of the lamb popsicles brought me in and they did not disappoint. I hadn’t been back in 5 years and the lamb popsicles still tasted just as good as i remembered them. We also had goat curry and it had a nice kick to it. The service was excellent they started us off with a complimentary appetizer and chai which was a nice touch, or as they call it Chai Tea which means tea tea. And we finished it off with some warm golab jammun which were excellent. If there is one dish you are going to order. Order the lamb popsicles and add a couple more to your order. You will not regret it.

So if you’re a fan of Indian food and you’re in Vancouver this is a must stop by. We came early on a Monday and the restaurant was full. We gave our waitress full autonomy over our dinner absolutely spectacular. It was a little bit off the cuff coming to this restaurant but I saw VJ was one of Air Canada chefs. Thanks so much for a wonderful experience!

I think it's the best Indian food I've had so far in Vancouver. The lamb and the chicken is very delicious. I also trip the eggplant in yogurt in starters and it was delicious too. The gulab jumun was really good but a bit expensive for only 2 of them. The service is also fast and the staff are super kind. Overall I recommend trying this restaurant.

Very good service. The food we really enjoyed. It's pricey but you pay for quality. Also met the owner, which was a nice personal touch. Would love to go back. Thanks, Vij and staff, highly recommended.

Vij’s had some of the best Indian food I’ve ever tried and I highly recommend it. + Food. We ordered a number of vegetarian dishes that were innovative and delicious. The gravy with jackfruit was splendid. The thali was great. + Service. Wonderful. We had multiple folks checking in on us and truly made us feel welcome. + Location and ambiance. Accessible location and the restaurant was warm, welcoming, and relaxing. We were visiting Vancouver and would definitely visit Vij’s again on another trip.
