The good point is the view of the city. The statues were mostly is a bad shape, with crackling and some parts lost. Avoid coming between 11-14h: too hot and the stairs will make you regret. Quite empty and calm despite being very close of the city (around 6 min with a motorcycle from the city ‘center’)

In the hills of Mae Hong Son, a sacred site stands tall, Chedi Phra That Mae Yen, a beacon for all. Ancient roots bind its tale to legends untold, A history rich, in golden threads it's enfold. Built with devotion, atop the Yen mountain's crest, The chedi whispers stories, a spiritual quest. Generations past, their faith left a trace, In the heart of Northern Thailand, a tranquil grace. Overlooking the valleys, a serene silhouette, Chedi Phra That Mae Yen, where time and reverence met. Each brick, a witness to pilgrims' silent prayer, A sanctuary of peace, suspended in mountain air.

Thailand is my " Land of Superlatives " , and so my 5 Star reviews are consistent with superlative experiences, special beauty, gracious Thai people. So start with placing flags as markers all over the mountains surrounding Pai and allow for Supreme guidance leading to the location here for this surreal shrine. That process is worth 5 Stars and this location is beyond belief. The setting Sun is eye level across a long valley and what a spectacular way to Segway into dusk and darkness 🌟. Walk the stairs, the steps, get to the top and feel a rare transformation of self on the upper level/ uppermost landing

About 2000 years Buddha statue, located up hill and watches over Pai little city. You need to climb about 300 stairs up there, but the view and air worth it.

We would come up here everyday for admiring the view. The best thing in Pai, without a doubt. It sits like a distant dream in the mountains, and you can’t help but be attracted to it. As you ascend the white steps, each step has a fantastic carved animal into the railing which then transforms into these mythical Buddhist and seemingly Hindu symbols. At the top the beauty sits and is growing a shrub bush in between its fingers. It’s quite a sight to see. There’s a place for rentals for women’s skirts. And there’s no fee to enter but you should definitely remove your shoes at the top, as with all temples.

Phra That Mae Yen consists of two buildings and a few small golden chedis. In front of the temple entrance and the big Buddha that can be seen all over Pai . It is also said to be where you can see a spectacular view of Pai especially during sunset or sunrise. Phra That Mae Yen has a peaceful, serene atmosphere, suitable for admiring a vast panoramic view of Amphoe Pai. The perfect time to appreciate the scenery is during the dawn, and the sunset. There has been no evidences on when Phra That was built. Within the temple area, there are only Phra Ubosot, and a 3 meter high white bell shaped chedi, with a round pedestal, and the outstanding umbrella shaped top in Burmese style.

A relaxing place for meditation or freeing your mind. Reachable by foot, bikes or scooters. There are a lot of stairs to walk up.

Wat Phra That Mae Yen, about 2 kilometers from Pai District, is a sacred temple of Pai for a long time. The temple area is quiet and shady, with a highlight on the large white Buddha image. And you can see the sun here, it's very beautiful.

Buddha overlooking Pai, excellent viewpoint and perfect to watch the sunset setting over the hills, you have to take some steps up the stairs to reach the top, the place is not in the best shape and there are some cracks in the statue, still worth the visit.

Impressive buddah statue, lots of steps to get up there but definitely worth it for the views you get of Pai at the top. There's friendly ladies at the bottom that let girls rent a skirt and shaul if it's a hot day and you're not wearing the right clothing, costs about 20THB.

Beautiful view and very impressive White Buddha. I decided to walk there, which was not so bad, just careful with the cars, as there is not always a sidewalk. The temple itself is not so impressive, comparing to Chiang Mai and Bangkok, but the Buddha is and the view is breathtaking. Totally worth to climb all those stairs :)

Easy climbing and the first light with the morning fog made for an amazing view.

Long climb up stairs. Nice Buddha statue, Nice view. Women need to wear long skirts/pants and to cover shoulders.

Beautiful Buddha tucked away just a kilometre from Pai centre. If you’ve forgotten to take a sarong or skirt you are able to rent one at the front counter for 20 Baht. The views from the top are breathtaking and the 3 minute ride from Pai is well worth it. Only 100-200 steps up to the Buddha and the panoramic views!

A big white Buddha statue overlooking Pai, amazing views and a great place to watch the sunset! But please be aware of religious customs and make sure to wear pants and shirts, nothing that’s showing too much skin.

Top three places to see in Pai if you want a short moped ride with amazing views. The stairs and Buddha itself has taken a beating from the elements but when you look behind you the whole of Pai sits in front of an amazing mountain range. Highly HIGHLY recommend

The White Buddha is just 30min walk from the main road. Go in the morning or later in the afternoon. So you don't need to do all the stairs with the sun. They open 6 am till 6 pm. Remember to bring appropriate clothes covering shoulders and knees. Otherwise you can rent there to cover yourself.

Come here in the cool of the day (especially sun rise and or sunset) and you will not be disappointed. The Buddha is a majestic and the view is awe-inspiring. I will be back.

It's a long climb up for the unfit but the view! Just an observation, but this is considered a sacred ground, so while it might look like a nice wide floor area and the hike up might have been tiring, respect the place enough not to sprawl all over the floor. Oh, and you need to remove your footwear at the top of the stairs.

Come in the evening to enjoy the scenic view across Pai with the evening light. It says that you should leave at 6pm, but when we left at that time many people were still at the top and no one was around to close the gate.

Amazing view! Nice place to hike in the morning or evening(sunrise or sunset). Its not very far from Pai. There are approx 350 steps to climb, so be prepared for that.

Good for a quick stop by, nothing much, great to visit if you are in religion, free entrance fee.

This Buddha is located on top of a hill, so be prepared before taking the many many stairs. I came around noon so the sun is relentless. Definitely take some water as you go up. Do mind to cover your shoulders and knees when you come here, they are checking.

I walked here from Pai town, it is definitely doable. There are a lot of stairs and a little temple area at the bottom. You can rent wraps to walk up to the Buddha if you are not covered. The views are nice. You can also do this as part of a full day or half day tour. I read a book for over an hour in the meditation area under the shade in the temple grounds

Beautiful place. The views of the mountains are incredible and the Buddha is of course stunning. The stairs only take about 5 minutes and it’s worth every single step!

👍👍 come to visit when you are in Pai, owner is generous to allow tourists walk around but be considerable as other guests may stay inside the cottages. Take some drinks and relax in their Cafe as an appreciation to the owner.
