From Islamabad it's 9 to 10 hours drive to reach Sharda, followed by 4.5 hours of jeep ride to reach Upper Domail. From there one has to hike till this lake, which takes from 6 to 10 hours.

If you are a travel addict and really want to mesmerize your eyes with a beautiful lake Nd if u love a thrilling ride and an adventurous trek then u must venture chitta katha lake It will take 3 to 4 hours of jeep ride from kel nd then almost 7hrs of trekking through the forest nd glaciers.

The best of best tour was hiking to chitta katha lake. Hiking started from domel bala village which is accessible from kel by a jeep which take around 2.5 hours. Hiking to chitta katha lake takes around 6 to 8 hours and it all depends upon your team stamina. Track is very very beautiful having lot of running streams, mountains, forest and rocks. Never ever take this risk to go with family and kids. Not recommended for families as track is very long and difficult. Take plenty of water, ORS sachet, and dry snacks with you. Take water sip by sip and take care of your blood sugar level. Shoes should be very comfortable and water proof and must have thick soul so that stones and rocks don't hurt you. Always hire a local guide with you otherwise you will forget the track. Start hike very early in the morning as the darkness fades away. In this way you will be able to return back by Sunset. Staying in mid way camp is not recommended at all. Try to reach domel bala by sunset. Keep torch lights, chewing gums, biscuits, dates and dry fruit along with you. Take extra pair of warm clothes, sweater and socks with you. Apply sunblock before starting hike as sunburn are very common.

Beautiful lake during golden hours of the day...but very ordinary during sun light. The trek is very difficult for beginners but moderate for regular hikers if you want to do it in a single day. A good camp site as well to spend a night under the milky way. Total trek to the lake is around 8kms with total elevation gain is around 4500fts.
