Kandol is a beautiful alpine lake in the Utror valley of Swat. The trek from Laddu is quite tough at the start since you have to go through boulders but later on you reach a beautiful green forestry area and finally you reach lake. It takes 3-4 hours on average to reach Kandol lake from Laddu village. What I really didn’t like around Kandol lake was all the trash left by the tourists and party goers.

Kundol Lake is accessible only during the summer, during the winter, the roads are closed due to heavy snowfall. It can be accessed by unmetalled road from Kalam up to Utror in a four-wheel automotive where a link road ends in a green valley called Ladu in the foothills of the mountain. Earlier, jeeps used to go till a higher village called Ladu but now bridge and jeep track is destroyed due to floods and rains. One way track time is around 2 to 3hrs till the lake. There are also small refreshment huts in Ladu valley where one can take tea and get something for eating. From Ladu it takes almost four to six hours to reach the lake. one of the best lake so far, its trekking is good and you can enjoy. its actually the center of flood in swat river, the locals told that 2010 flood was because of the cloud burst in this lake. Amazing view and position on one side is paristan lake and on other side is spinkhwar lake both the lakes are round about 6-7hrs trek.

Heaven on earth, if you go to kalam and don't go to see kandol lake, the starting point of utror river , you waste your trip and money, must go with family or friends. A magical place. Going is tough start your journey from kalam by 0800 to reach by 1100 and then head backwards by 1600 to reach back by maghrib. Can be visited on 4x4s only , using services of locally available land cruires. Tourists are advised to negotiate rates and timings before leaving for sight seeing in these areas, since drivers can be itchy at times insisting on hushing up the tour and trying to save their time , for second stint with another set of tourist, leaving you only touching the sights with no time to absorb the beauty of these areas. I was lucky to hire Mr Hikmat as driver , who took great pains and times to show us around in his modest but clean landcruiser with great driving skills, he became our guide to the area gave us historical knowledge of area and showed us around with no hurry. Mesmerizing and refreshing! Accessible thru a jeep track or a trek of 3-4 hours from Utror. From a distance, looks like a large playground with emerald turf surrounded by green mountains! A beautiful place to camp at night on the trek to Paristan Jheel and onwards!

Crossing jungle , Fountains and Mountains with your Guider you can teach to kandol after trekking. Then you can see the beauty of Kandol lake. Everyone who wants adventure must trekk to kandol Lake. A very beautiful lake with a immensely eye catching track from Kalam via Ushu, Atror and Ladu. A jeepable track has developed from a year or two. But I would recommend taking the track on foot if U have the will and stamina.

The experience was awesome. We did camping there. Importantly, weather gets colder in the night so its better to pick warm clothes if plannig to set camp there. Drinkable water is scarce but we managed to found a part of glacier there and collected water for drinking. Next day we took water of lake and used after boiling. Overall, the scenic beauty of the lake is impeccable but necessary steps need to be taken by the govt to make it tourist spot.
