One of the top highlights of Sri Lanka if you are into history. So much to see. Recommend a bicycle tour from the citadel to Gal vihara. Mostly on flat ground.

This is an important place for the Royal Palace. Dalada Maluwa is a sacred area within the Polonnaruwa Royal Palace complex that houses the remains of relics and religious shrines.

Believed to be one of the places where the tooth relic was kept, this temple has marvellous architecture. The ruins are beautiful and have been restored well. The architecture reminds a bit of Roman architecture but is made of bricks and stones. A must visit site in polonnauwa.

This is the sacred precinct of the ancient city of Polonnaruwa where several buildings built by kings to house the Buddha's sacred tooth relic are located. Some of the most remarkable architectural monuments of the Polonnaruwa period are located here. Buildings include Atadāge, Hetadāge, Nissanka Latha Mandapaya, Thūparama image house and Vatadāge

Really enjoyed walking through what must have been magnificent once upon a time. Only regret is that I should have read more about this before as you don't have much reading material there once you are on the ground. Would definitely recommend just to get an idea of how big this place must have been.

Dalada maluva is an ancient sacred city, and is still used by at least Buddhists as a place of worship. There are also hindu shrines around, but according to my observationd these are not actively used. This is the place they kept the sacred tooth of Buddha for many years until the city was ravaged and left abandoned. The tooth was then moved to Kandy. There are many steuctures to explore and the entrance is 25 USD. The area is wast so find a driver or rent bikes to get around.

Well-preserved site. You should visit the nearby museum to better appreciate what is on site. There are extensive descriptions and interpretations together with models illustrating the palace and temple complexes. Top marks to the team and government for the effort that has gone into such rich cultural history easily accessible and understandable by both local and foreign visitors.

What a freeing place. We feel proud of ourselves. I visited this area only after 18 years. All those artifacts are still the same today. Safe.

An amazing site that is well worth the drive to see. I would recommend getting a guide as they are a wealth of knowledge and facts. We tipped our guide 1000 rupiah or about eight Australian dollars plus a drink as it was very hot and humid (Sept).

It's about 50 KMS from Sigiriya. You can choose to stay in Sigiriya and visit this. Entry is bit costly. 25 USD. If you are SAARC citizen, carry passport to get 50% discount. With single ticket, can visit the museum and all other ruins. You need to have your vehicle or rent a tuc tic as you need to cover lot of distance. Hiring a guide may not be required. Follow the plan given at the ticket counter. It will be hot during noon. Carry water. FEMALE VISITORS SHOULD COVER THEIR LEGS , CARRY A DUPATTA OR A LENGTHY CLOTH TO DRAPE AROUND. MANY PLACES NEED TO REMOVE OUR FOOTWEAR AND ENTER BAREFOOTED

The temple of the tooth relic chambers for the 12 century capital of Polonnaruwa. There are 2 Relic chambers, 3 temples and other smaller chanting halls, as well as a gaint stone book to view. Its very photogenic Buddha's framed by stone doorways and interesting stone relief work. Please remember that the site is scared so no posing in front of the buddha statues and shoes and hats should be removed before entering the buildings. Go early morning to avoid crowds and heat of the day being bear footed the stone can get very hot.
