Really impressive collection of cars from the beginning of the car history. If you are a fan of old cars especially Bugatti then this Museum is a must visit. They also have a small track where you can drive some classics for a fee.

The museum is only recommended if you really really like cars. I don’t care for them but my husband does so we went. It’s more like a huge parking place for a lot of special and rare cars (says the husband) but it’s not fun or well planned like some of the really cool car museums I have been to (Mercedes or Porsche for ex)

According to multiple sources, this is the largest automobile collection in the world. I don't know about that (the Ford in Dearborn, the Volo in Illinois, the Technik in Sinsheim and the National Auto Museum in Reno seem larger). This is certainly the largest collection of pre-1900's and pre-1920's. Starting with a display of hood ornaments and then continuing with cars throughout the years, this is a massive exhibit. An 1894 Panhard-Levassor, 1898 Peugeot, 1930 Maserati Biplace Sport Type 2000, 1936 Mercedes-Benz Type 500K, 1930 Bugatti Roaster Type 43A, 1934 Citroen 7-A Berline, 1942 Arzens L'Oeuf Biplace, 1986 Trabant, 1913 Violet-Bogey Torpedo Type A. So many more. Ferrari, Aston-Martin, Alfa-Romeo, Renault. Coupes and sedans and racecars (open wheel, closed wheel, F1). This is a half day at least. Plan ahead with snacks and a full battery on your phone. The museum is a short walk from the tram station which in turn is a few stops from the Mulhouse railway station. It's easy to access if you are in the Alsace region. Don't miss out!

Tolle Ausstellung.

A superb museum that plunges us into the exciting world of exceptional vehicles, with the exhibition of mythical and prestigious models. The staff are welcoming. A fabulous visit! Health measures implemented, including in particular, temperature measurement at the entrance to the site, gauge of the number of visitors, and compulsory mask inside the City. I don't visit museums that often, but this one is worthy of all the admiration. Great exposition, excellent descriptions for each car and really collected a huge number of exhibits I will say right away - that allocate 2,5-3 hours to visit. I was pleasantly surprised by the presence of a restaurant on the territory and a cool event after the end (the event is held on the territory of the museum every Sunday).

Very nice exhibition. They have hundreds of car maybe more but you can't sit or touch. For children there is a car race for their fun in the middle. For extra you can drive a each car for additional charge. Overall nice place to visit.

Amazing collection of antique cars. If you love Bugatti, Mercedes and the origins of F1 racing and rally cars you'll be in heaven. A fee for parking. Reason entry fee. Nice restaurant and plenty of bathrooms. You can do 7 circuits of a race track in a vintage sports car for about 70 euros. Marvel at the world's fastest car...the 3 million euro Bugatti.

An amazing collection of automobiles from all eras - from modern Hyper-Cars, coach building beauties, motorcycles to 80's sports cars - you’re guaranteed to find something to catch your eye. Really good way to spend an afternoon in Moulhouse. Especially cause the connection to the cities tram is very good too.

Not much of a car enthusiast, but this museum is spectacular. You don’t have to be knowledgeable or even all that interested in cars to thoroughly enjoy yourself here. The way that the history and progression of automobiles are displayed is quite captivating and we ended up spending 2-3 hours here.

Really nice experience for people who loves cars I forgot to make a mention for the guy at the bar counter inside the museum. I never saw a guy so crazy like him. You can talk to him and he still doing his job, don't answer to you, give you his shoulders and don't care what you ask to him. I asked for a plastic bottle of water, I showed him a translation in French and he stills no answers and doing his own!!! Very very very rude!! I think it will be good to change your staff

The collection is downright fantastic. It's incredible to see that many old cars, all the way to the 1890s, all in perfect operating condition. Fun activities as well (packing a boot to the brim, manually starting an old car...). Beware of the cold, however, if you visit in winter. The exhibition hall has no heating at all anymore (due to electricity prices). I visited on a freezing day and while it was above zero indoors it wasn't a lot higher! The bar also isn't particularly remarkable and has a tendency to close early (4:30 is too late already). All in all, pick a sunny day, go early enough, and you'll have a blast!

I’ve been to lots of automotive museums around Europe but this one has been my favourite up to now, if you like cars the history and development of you’ll have a good day here. I particularly liked the easy layout of the museum which means you won’t miss a thing

With one word - it is an extraordinary museum! If you are a car enthusiastic, or someone who is into mechanical designs and engines, you should definitely see this place. The open gallery is very well prepared for a great exhibition according to years with brief, but attention taking descriptions and stories. The collection is one of a kind with very unique and rare cars. And the idea of "Car lost in the Nature" is truly beautiful. We paid €18.00 for an adult ticket without waiting in the line on a Friday afternoon.

Largest car museum in the world. If you like cars, it's a must. If you don't like cars, this is the place to get to like them. And, yes, there are little gems of the history of electric, which will hopefully grow. And, yes, you can test drive some of the best world classics. ??️

Fantastic museum covering early to late mid-century European automobiles. An almost embarrassing amount of Bugattis. All are keep in a clearly used condition (which I find more interesting), and seemingly in running order.

  • 5/5 ray r. 4 years ago on Google
Stunning collection of cars the very early and late model cars are ok but the best for me is the collection of Bugatti Bentley Rolls-Royce ect in a room on there own, worth the admission on there own, never mind the chance to get to drive a classic car, mine was the Citroen. I will return one day to do it again.

Hugh collection of classic and vintage cars. There is so much to see, almost too much. Most cars have some interpretive material. There is an audio guide that covers some, available in English, and offers some additional background information. There are some interesting additional exhibits. There is chance to drive some cars around their short circuit. The food from the cafe was nice enough. If you like older cars you should go.

More than 500 cars are on display in the museum. The exhibition attracts 200,000 visitors a year. The history of this notable collection is closely linked to the lives of the Schlumpf brothers, Hans and Fritz Schlumpf, who were born in Italy and then went to Mulhouse with their parents in 1906. In 1935, the brothers founded a wool company called SAIL. By the late ’50s, Fritz Schlumpf began buying old cars after starting a number of rally races from 1939 with his Bugatti 35B. At first he secretly collected the cars, later he gained contacts in France, Switzerland, England, Italy, Germany, and the United States. The brothers' attention turned more and more to expensive cars. The growing collection needed more and more space, so they converted the wool mill into a showcase for their cars, and then in 1966 began work on opening the “Schlumpf Museum” to the public. One brother died in 1989, the other in 1992, and in 2000 Culturespaces rebuilt and modernized the museum. The Cité de l’Automobile was established in 2006 and has taken over and still operates the museum. The 17,000-square-foot museum is illuminated with 800 street lamps, just like the one in Paris III. They are located on the Alexander Bridge. (Original) Bugatti múzeum - A világ egyik legkülönlegesebb gyűjteménye 1978-ban nyílt meg. Itt található a világ legnagyobb Bugatti gyűjteménye. A múzeumban több mint 500 autó van kiállítva. A kiállítás évente 200 000 látogatót vonz. E nevezetes gyűjtemény története szorosan kötődik a Schlumpf testvérek, Hans és Fritz Schlumpf életéhez akik Olaszországban születettek, majd Mulhouse-ba mentek szüleikkel 1906-ban. 1935-ben a testvérek megalapították a SAIL nevű, gyapjúval foglalkozó vállalkozást. Az ’50-es évek végére Fritz Schlumpf elkezdett régi autókat vásárolni, miután 1939-től számos rally versenyen indult Bugatti 35B-jével. Eleinte titokban gyűjtötte az autókat, később francia, svájci, angol, olasz, német, és amerikai kapcsolatokra is szert tett. A testvérek figyelme egyre inkább a drága autók felé fordult.

Massive collection of all sorts of cars, including some fabulously eccentric and rare one-offs. If you like your cars it's great fun. Have been several times now and always enjoyed the collection. When there's not a pandemic on you can sit in a variety of cars from different eras, including one Bugatti in a photograph I've added.

  • 5/5 Saša H. 2 years ago on Google
One of the best car museums in the world. More than 400 cars in one spot. Cars are arranged by era from the oldest to the newest. I have never seen so many Bugatti cars in one space. If ypu are feeling adventurous you can even rent some of the classics for a few laps on their track. Prices are from 50 to 100 euros depending on the car. The entrance ticket was 14 euro for adult ticket. Only complaint was that the restaurants on site didn't work.

From the initial vehicles to the modern Lambo's and Bugatti's, they have everything, including some race-winning F1 and Le Mans classics. You can also drive a few models on the small track behind the museum.

Wonderful experience, huge in scale. Growing from its origins, the focus is naturally on the history of continental European motor cars, and “sporting” cars particularly. Some incredibly rare and historic exhibits to be seen.

A spectacular museum. Very beautiful and with an imposing entrance! I particularly liked the entrance to the bridge that gives access to the museum, passing over a river channel. A very pleasant space, with parking and public transport next door and with a lot of history of some of the Bugatti engines. There is also the possibility of having experience in being able to drive high-capacity cars, such as Ferrari and Porche, on the museum's outside cartodrome. I recommend it to anyone who is visiting Mulhouse.

A beautiful place to visit for automobile lovers and you get to understand how the big automotive companies like Bugatti, Mercedes Benz, Rolls Royce, Ferrari have evolved throughout the years right from cart type cars to today's high speed cars. They also have a good collection of ace cars and you get to see Bugatti Veyron as well

  • 5/5 Daniela T. 2 years ago on Google
A marvellous car collection hides in the impressive automobile museum in Mulhouse. You get to see the Bugatti Royale and some very famous F1 cars, the prestigious Rolls-Royce.The Museum présents also information about the automobile industry from its very beginnings to modern times. Apparently there are also 28 films you can watch but unfortunately they were not available during the Covid period, also starting the period car with a handle and changing a Formula One wheel the we were told about were not available :( All in all, the museum is one of the greatest.

  • 4/5 Jeroen H. 2 years ago on Google
Very large collection of oldtimers. Never seen this many unique cars in one location. When we visited they were doing several renovations and several cars were covered up. This wasn't mentioned beforehand. Definitely worth while visiting when in the area. Enough paid parking spaces nearby.

  • 5/5 Chrissi 1 year ago on Google
A big selection of very old to the newest cars to see. You can experience what a roll over crash feels like by sitting in a small golf, that turns around around its axis twice, which is pretty interesting. The best part of the museum is, you can test drive hyper cars on a small race track 400 meters, from old cars to a lamborghini, see the price list in the photos for the cars

  • 5/5 Laurence D. 1 year ago on Google
Definitely, worth the hour it took us to drive to Mulhouse and the 15 minutes trying to find the entrance. Someone really ought to let Google know where and how to enter. The recommendation is that you should spend 2 hours at the museum, I think half a day is more accurate. So many cars, so much information to take onboard and so many photo opportunities. This was my day out but even my wife found it fascinating. There is an outside area where the cars are shown off but the weather wasn’t good enough and so that area was closed. I thought that €18 per person is really good value for a few hours of entertainment. There are a couple of toilets one at the entrance and there’s a gift shop as well as a restaurant/bar. The gift shop was a bit limited but that’s not the reason for visiting.

I saw pictures etc online and on the website. But it is bigger as I expected! Money well spend, what a amazing collection of cars. Went with my dad who is not a car fanatic, but even he found it a great pleasure seeing seeing all these amazing vehicles. If you are a bugatti fan you are aspecially treated, i have never seen so many together.. Enjoy!

Amazing collection, where especially the large hall with turn of the century cars, as well as the vault with 1930's luxury cars stand out. Many obscure long forgotten brands, together with the weird and wonderful. Record number of Bugattis in one location too. Start early, it is a lot to take in, and buy the book to be able to identify the cars later.

  • 5/5 Chloe S. 1 year ago on Google
Despite not being a car enthusiast in any way, I absolutely loved this museum. There are vehicles spanning from carriages to formula 1, as well as lots of Bugattis. I would have liked to read more info about the vehicles, they only have a sort description. And more information about the founders of the collection would have been useful. I read up about them after my visit but their story could have been presented better in the museum. You can easily spend hours going round here.

  • 5/5 Krisztina F. 1 year ago on Google
Fantastic place! Watching it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. In a huge hall, hundreds of cars in beautiful condition. From the beginning of driving, you can find a lot of models here, looking at some of them, a frame from a movie comes to mind. We'll come back again, because it's a full-day program if someone wants to watch it more thoroughly.

Absolutely amazing visit! The displays are superb, and I can highly recommend spending a lot time here. Sadly I was under time pressure, so rushed through parts. But will be back. This is an impressive collection of cars. There are a few fun hands-on activities as well plus a roll over simulator. There is a collection of children's pedal cars as well, which my children enjoyed. I am not a car fan by any means, but I enjoyed the museum.

We were there with my dad and his friend, really nice place! More than 100 bugattis and one place and many more cars and from other brands + some F1 cars. They even have there restaurant and bar + parking infront of the entrance and merchendise store with some toys, posters and other stuff.

The Musée National de l'Automobile in Mulhouse is well worth a visit for every car enthusiast. So many beautiful examples of automobiles from the very beginning of car manufacturing until the late 1970ies. Maybe the biggest collection of Bugatti in the world. Amazing! We were lucky and there were not too many people there so it was perfect to take pictures. I would like to go again. Or go to an event where the old racecards are really driven. Extraordinary!

Attention! If you like French cars, Bugattis, Gordins and cars made before 1960, this exhibition is for you! There were few newer cars made in other parts of the world. A huge exhibition. And still so interesting.

Schwierige Bewertung: einerseits wunderbare alte Autos in sehr gutem Zustand - definitiv sehenswert.

  • 5/5 Cotswold G. 7 months ago on Google
Jaw dropping. The sheer number and range of vehicles is amazing. Quite a privilege to see the early models, and with good descriptions. But also the other categories, through the decades, as well as top end models and racing cars.

  • 3/5 David B. 5 months ago on Google
Huge museum but seems stuck in time pre 1980. Some important early cars in here especially Bugatti and others and interestingly includes a modern day Veyron. Vast majority of the collection is very old and either early cars or from 1930s, 40s and 50s when obviously the collection was being assembled. Some really interesting cars too from micro to pedal cars, clangers like the Aston Martin Lagonda, Ferrari 512 and some fun hands-on things for kids. Very cold inside the day we visited and could have been heated. Parking outside is 2euro an hour.

  • 5/5 Swiss C. 5 months ago on Google
The car collection is huge and covers the first 100 years of the automobile's existence. The quality of the collection is also very high. Absolutely recommend to visit to every car enthusiast. The Bugatti cars on display are simply amazing.
