It's a pretty nice place to go and the ruins are kind of intact. Most of the area is outside ruins, though there is also a museum that shows some artifacts and explains some stuff about there. I personally had the chance to see a ceremony though I do not know how common those are or if they are common. My only complaint is in the museum there is not any English for the things to read in the museum. There are also tour guides so they may be able to explain it though I am not sure.

Iximche was a great surprise during our last visit in Guatemala. A beautiful archeological place! Lots of visitors, a lot of local Mayan people visiting as well. Our favorite part about the place was the respect of the archeological pieces. Some pyramids are still below some trees 🌲 We like also that some people still practice some Mayan rituals at this place. Some local people also come to have family picnic 🧺

Had a wonderful time at this intimate Mayan ruins site. Cost $7 USD to visit the site and the museum. We had a connection to a local guide, Melvin. Wonderfully knowledgeable and spoke enough English to communicate very well! This made the trip for us. He studied for a few years to understand the history—not to mention he is comes from mayan descendants. He made it worthwhile! Hard to hire guides on the spot, in fact, we had a family join us along we way. WhatsApp our tour guide, Melvin: +502 3163 7818

We had a wonderful guide, Alex, who shared with us information about his culture and the history of his people who lived at Iximche when it was the capital city of the Maya. We also had the privilege of watching a fire ceremony taking place in the ceremonial plaza.

Fun are to hang out and lots of space to explore the ruins. You explore on your own, it was nice to have a local person able to explain things for us. The museum was informative as well. Would recommend stopping in there.

A nice little step back into the history of Guatemala. It’s a nice site, nothing like Tikal but definitely nice in its own way! We were driving to Antigua from Xela and it was a nice break for the legs and not too expensive. It is worth the stop at least once. I was here 15 years ago and it’s still beautiful.

It's a different kind of Mayan ruin. Not tall, no Pyramids, but still a large site and nice little museum. It's quiet and you can feel the spirits of those who came before.

Stopped here for about an hour on the way to Antigua from lake Atitlan. The cost is ~50 Quetzales and let’s you see the Museum, Ruins and access to the bathroom. The museum is small, but has a nice collection and worth a stop in. The Ruin grounds are beautiful and really well kept. Really enjoyed walking around and enjoying the open areas and beautiful building remains.

The site is small, but of historic relevance. It's well kept. Entrance bathrooms a clean. Short drive from Guatemala city. Book a guide on site to understand the history and what the buildings are.

The archeological site of Iximche is located near the town of Tecpan about an hour's drive from Antigua Guatemala. The price of admission is 50 Q for foreigners. There are no guides available as far as I saw. Inside you'll find a small museum, which is currently closed due to the pandemic, some vendor stalls, but not too many, and all outside the actual park, and very serviceable restrooms. The site itself is composed of four consecutive plazas that have been excavated to various degrees. Generally, as you head further away from the entrance the less reconstructed the structures. As far as the structures that are there, they are well looked after with closely cropped lawns and well-maintained buildings. At the very end of the site, there is a small pyramid used by the modern Maya to make offerings and sacrifices of incents and alcohol.

There is a small museum that you should see first before entering the ruin area. The grounds are full of ruins and information. Be mindful and respectful of any ongoing rituals.

Tranquil archeaological site with an active ceremonial site. There is a small museum, with information only available in Spanish. There is no to very little info on the site itself on the buildings or places. Very peaceful environment

A late Mayan site without the big pyramids and carvings of sites like Tikal but smaller, and very interesting with a good guide. At the further end are alters where local Maya still practice ceremonies. Peaceful and surrounded by trees it's pretty walkable but be ready to scramble up steep stone steps here and there.

WONDERFUL, IMPRESSIVE FOR MID SIZED ARCHEOLOGICAL SITE. NEED MORE STATE FUNDING OFCOURSE. MORE FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT THAN MOST. MORE EXCAVATIONS NEEDED. BALLCOURT A IS IN GOOD CONDITION, BALLCOURT B IS IN POOR CONDITION. PLENTY OF GOOD RESTAURANTS NEARBY. FAR END OF PARK I GUESS WAS A DEFENSIVE WALL, FULL OF REGROWTH NOW WITH A GARBAGE DUMP. BRING YOUR OWN TOILET PAPER FOR FAR END PRIVI HOLES UNLESS YOU DECIDE TO USE REST ROOMS AT ENTRANCE. VERY ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE.

Nice ruins. It's the first ruin that i visited in Guatemala so nothing to compare it to. I suggest making this apart of your itinerary if are near Antigua or Lake Atitlan. We visited three tourist attractions in one day. This was definitely worth seeing. A great road trip.

First time visiting this ruins and was quite impressed with how well the ruins that remain are preserved. There wasn't a lot to see but it is an interesting place due to its historical significance. It was very pleasant to wander around the grounds imagining what this place looked like when it was bustling place 500 years ago. Would recommend spending and hour or two if you're in the area.

PROs: beautiful, very peaceful (bring a book and a picnic), little people, English-speaking guide for $20, Mayan ceremonies ongoing on the day I visited, not expensive (50Q), free parking CONs: museum was closed, don't know why, signs are only in Spanish and there are only very few

Nice place. Good place to learn history and culture. Bilingual guide was well knowledged and hospitable. I wish the Guatemalan government would allocate money to help support and preserve history like this. Not take money that comes from visitors

A Guide would add to your best experience here. Alex was really good! But to get into A Fire ceremony with a local Mayan Shaman elder was even better. There is a calming energy about this location. And simply beautiful. Be respectful of the no climbing in certain areas.

Really nice place to visit. It isn't very large, the temples are smallish and a bit in rough shape but nevertheless it's worth the 50q to enter and experience it, as it's not well trafficked by foreigners but yes by locals

I really enjoyed these ruins as a day trip from Panajachel! I was expecting much less, but they were really well kept and intact. There's also a place for Mayan offerings at the opposite end. To get there from Panajachel: take a chicken bus from nearby the La Torre supermarket/gas station heading to Sololá for Q5. From Sololá, take another chicken bus to Encuentros for Q3-4 (I got charged Q4 on the way and Q3.50 return, but it's Q3 for locals). From Los Encuentros, take another chicken bus to Tecpán. This ride is on the windiest road, so prepare to hold on tight and slide back and forth the whole hour. I paid Q15 there and Q20 return, not sure what the local price is for this one. Then from Tecpán, you can walk about 10-15 minutes to the central plaza. There's a church near it, but I had a difficult time finding it. A panaderia worker pointed me in the right direction. From the central plaza you take a smaller collectivo that says RUINAS on the window. This is Q3, or Q5 if you don't have 3 coins left like I didn't on the return 🙃 The whole trip is about 2 hours from Pana to the ruins, so don't let the amount of bus changes intimidate you! I found it worth it!

Good place to visit. Serine. Close to Tecpán. Easy access to parking. Restaurants nearby the main road. Can see the ceremonial place and living culture of the Maya. Good place for large groups.

Great archeological site that tells a lot about the Maya culture. It was a good alternative to Tikal as we did not have enough time to go there. The only disappointment is that the information panels are all in Spanish, we had to use Google Translate to read them (they are really interesting though).

(Translated by Google) Iximché is a pre-Columbian archaeological site in the western highlands of Guatemala. From its foundation in 1470 to its abandonment in 1527, Chi Iximche 'was the capital of the Kaqchikel kingdom in the Late Postclassic. The site's architecture includes a number of pyramid temples, palaces, and two Mesoamerican ballgame fields. During the excavations of the site, the remains of painted murals -in poor condition- were discovered in some of the buildings and ample evidence of human sacrifice. We did this through a cruise ship tour and what would have been a disaster of an excursion turned out great. Karen kept her head and positive attitude when our bus broke down. She contacted and set up another bus to come get us and with the help of others on the other end had our time extended so we didn't have to rush through Iximche. I have been to several Mayan archaeological sites and her knowledge was vast compared to some. This may not have been the fanciest but it was more real and with Karen’s help the history came to life. The lunch was pretty good and the bathroom was a nice surprise. Great shops outside the restaurant if you want to shop. My only complaint is the maintenance on their buses for the last 30 minutes we endured no air conditioning in the 2nd bus. I recommend you put these ruins on your bucket list.

(Translated by Google) If you want to know where the story began (from Guatemala and the continent) this is the best place. I advise you to read history and see photos before arriving. 500 years ago strangers arrived in these lands, they thought they came from other worlds, a decision had the King, declare war (with the danger of being slaves or die) or make peace (survive and see their intentions). What will the King of the Cakchiqueles do. Will the Spaniards found Guatemalan ?! The new Guatemalan will cover Panama. Because it is divided into 6 countries. Because they move to what the capital is today. Because presidents come to know this place. Several questions you may know.
