The hotel's purely utilitarian. Right next to a surfing spot, some decent waves. I don’t know any other decent hotel in the south where you can surf without rocks. But searching seems necessary as I don’t fancy coming back here. Last year, we went in low season and it was better. They put a coffee machine in our room, assigned us a quiet, upper-level room and it was okay. This year, we went in the high season and it’s a complete letdown. - Music from the neighboring hotel blasted every day until 10-10:30 pm, felt like it was right under my balcony. - The double room had a saggy mattress, we kept rolling into the centre of the bed. We had to switch to a twin room to stay on the same floor as the kids, but it’s far from an ideal solution. - There's no coffee machine in the room, can't even recall when last I had that experience. They provided an old, tiny hairdryer. A large fixed bottle of shampoo on the wall which is a pain when you take a bath - a distinct type of stinginess. - An awful stench of rotting meat in the kid's club. It’s a total disappointment. Good kids club was a choosing factor All this feels particularly intolerable when you've paid double the usual rate via an agency, and now you can't cancel and leave to avoid this everyday concerts.

Dear Marriot Team, Sorry for the late reply guys. This post is made after 5 years. Lots must have changed. You guys then service, location and rooms are the best. We came for our honeymoon and it was the best service you guys gave us. We are expecting to come with our baby during the vacation as it has been sometime now. I love the architecture within the room how the bathrooms are connected and all. Pool is really nice with the beach.

This is a highly reccomended place! It's right in front of Weligama Beach, which Is great for surfing! The hotel is so chill and relaxing. The staff is very friendly and Helpful. They good restaurants, bars and pools inside. Also a Kid's play area where you can leave them there while you chill by the pool.

Great service and friendly staff, truly an international standard! With superb breakfast and kitchen quality. The rooms are spacious and well maintained. - Added plus is the waves are prefect for people looking to surf 🏄‍♀️ 🌊. Would note it’s a resort so have an expectation of families with kids running around or on the pool, but the resort is spacious so you’d be able to find your own spot 🧘

Our stay at the hotel was unforgettable. Rooms were comfy. We enjoyed a lot in the pool and beach area. Staff was amazing. It would have been better if there were few more options for the welcome drink (other than Iced Tea & Belimal drink) as most of the children do not prefer that, but that's just a minor thing. Food was very tasty and we loved the varieties they had. Overall their service was excellent.

My stay at the Marriott Weligama Hotel exceeded all expectations. From the moment I entered the lobby, I was greeted by a sense of opulence and warmth, complete with a traditional dance performance by the staff. The meticulous attention to detail in the room design was evident, and I was thoroughly impressed by the comfort and luxury they provided. The inclusion of every modern convenience made my stay truly indulgent. The infinity pool, with its breathtaking view of the pristine beach, was a tranquil oasis of relaxation. One of the highlights of my stay was the exceptional breakfast buffet restaurant. The culinary offerings were nothing short of extraordinary, offering a wide range of dishes of exceptional quality to suit various tastes. Each meal was a delightful culinary journey, and I eagerly looked forward to every dining experience. The 8:30 am yoga class became a cherished part of my daily routine during my stay. The serene setting and the guidance of the skilled instructor allowed me to start each day with tranquility and rejuvenation, connecting with my inner self amidst the stunning surroundings. I must also commend the well-equipped gym. As a fitness enthusiast, I was delighted to find modern equipment that catered to a variety of workouts, allowing me to maintain my fitness routine even while on vacation. I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel, and I'm already looking forward to returning on my next visit to Sri Lanka.

The hotel is situated in the Weligama Bay full of surfers and beautiful beach scenery, away from the craziness of Colombo. The sunsets are amazing and the hotel is a nice slice of heaven. The rooms are all sea view so it's really cool to wake up in the morning to a beach view full of surfers. The staff are plentiful and attentive. The staff in the Weligama Kitchen noticed that we liked a certain dish and they went out of their way to make it for us for breakfast the next morning. They even showed us how to prepare the traditional hopper dish, local style because I had not idea what toppings to use. The waiter brought me his version of a hopper with toppings and showed me how to eat it, and it was delicious! The rooms were spacious and beautiful. Would highly recommend this place and would come back to this hotel. Beware of the "surf instructors" on the beach. They are not with the hotel but they were fiercely competitive for business and were even yelling at each other while my children were trying to do their surf lessons. To appease their competition, the instructor tried to charge us double so that they could split the profit with the other guy. Anyway, they weren't with the hotel but just be aware! The hotel is amazing!

The Marriott Resort and Spa is in a great location. The beach right in front of the resort is clean and the waves are great for beginner surfers. The room is luxurious with state of the art of amenities and comfortable beds. The breakfast buffet that we attended had an amazing spread with delicious food. The only downside to the resort was their room service. We had a few issues with our room and the staff was slow or did not respond to some of our requests. Overall it was a pleasurable stay!

Had an absolutely amazing experience during our stay on the 6th and 7th this month. The staff was very courteous, attentive and helpful. We got the ocean view rooms and the view was to die for! The rooms were spacious and very well maintained. The pool, bar and the games area were absolute treats. The dining area was huge with a wide variety of cuisine to choose from for each of the 3 meals, even during our stay on weekdays, which is impressive. All in all, it was a very pleasant stay and I look forward to the next time I get to come for a visit!

Great hotel, fantastic food and fantastic facilities. The hotel is my located in the middle of the surfing beach, with many restaurants in the surrounding. We went with two kids, one of them non swimmer. The kids pool is approximately 90 cm deep, ideal for a four-year-old. There is also a small pool with a slide, but it might be a stretch to call this a pool :) all in all fantastic experience, highly recommended

This place has hideous behavior. I had an ocean view room with two beds booked for myself, mom and brother. I am an ambassador member and had booked the hotel through them, and the staff at this hotel went into the system and changed it to a king room. When I questioned them, they kept trying to say one person can just use the sofa bed- not what I paid for. After needing the Ambassador team to call them, they finally admitted they no longer had the actual room I was booked in. So shady. They thought it was just fine to go into the system and change my bed type without permission?? They offered a downgraded room or the room with the sofa bed. So now, in a foreign country, we need to work on booking another hotel room- absolutely disgusting. The ambassador representative told me that he is letting my actual ambassador what happened but that she wouldn't contact me because they are all really busy- classy. And also- they kept referring to me as "Mr." in all the messages they sent me and I finally got annoyed enough to correct them and let them know I am female. This makes me question whether I should continue using Marriott hotels- quality has clearly fallen. I am thinking my thousands of dollars a year of business can just go to someone else

**Weligama Bay Marriott Resort & Spa: Luxurious Paradise in Sri Lanka** Our stay at Weligama Bay Marriott Resort & Spa was an unforgettable experience, ranking among the best and most luxurious resorts in Sri Lanka. The breathtaking view of the serene sea through the expansive windows in our room left an indelible impression. From start to finish, everything was impeccable - the service, the prime location, the well-appointed rooms, and the panoramic views that greeted us in morning. The breakfast spread was delightful, and the team managing the breakfast service deserves special mention for their prompt and attentive service, ensuring our dining experience was exceptional. The pool and direct beach access, with the added perk of surfing opportunities, added an extra layer of enjoyment. The sight of lush green coconut trees from both the elevator and corridors enhanced the already captivating ambiance of the resort. Special commendation goes to Ms. Lochana for her exceptional service in upgrading our room and giving us a comprehensive tour of all the facilities. Her efforts truly elevated our experience, showcasing the dedication to guest satisfaction. This place deserves a seven star.

Beautiful hotel.. they have a private beach and 3 pools. (1 kid and 2 adults). They serve sheesha also. The rooms have a beautiful design and too spacious. The Buffet breakfast and dinner are simply delicious 😋. They had almost everything which a person can think of (veg/non veg/seafood/local cuisine) everything. Kudos to head chef and the team. We requested an item out of the Buffet and the sous chef was kind enough to prepare and serve us that. Overall nice experience.

Excellent service from staff. Personally attended us in the restaurant and checked what we needed and provided us with suggestions too. Rooms are very much modern and eye pleasing. Buffet too was excellent. Had a good variety. Beach was also clean and swimmable which makes the stay even better.

This is a large, very commercial, family oriented hotel. We went as a couple, and stayed here because we could not find other accommodations. In general I don’t like these kind of hotels and prefer to be in a more boutique hotel setting. Having said that it was not all bad. The room itself was fine - nothing to write home about. It was clean and modern and the bed was comfortable. No coffee maker in the room but there was a kettle. The breakfast buffet was amazing. The food is great quality with a wide selection of western, Sri Lankan, Asian, and Indian. The gym was nice and I used it daily. The location was pretty central where we could walk to the beach side seafood restaurants, and also close enough to Galle to do a day trip. Staff also were nice and helpful. Nothing extraordinary, but solid.

Overall, a very pleasant experience. The hotel staff is friendly and always willing to help. Morning yoga classes, water aerobics, and the gym are great ways to get rid of all those calories you ate for breakfast in a restaurant that makes a variety of tasty dishes. Spacious, a bit outdated rooms with a fantastic ocean view but not as clean as should’ve been. There were always issues with the towels. The pool is quite small for such a hotel. It is almost impossible to find a free sunbed at around 11 am unless someone leaves. Also, even though there are rules, nobody sticks to them. It’d be better if you put someone in charge of the pool since people do whatever they want: from aggressively splashing water on everyone relaxing nearby to throwing an actual rugby ball which could hurt someone. Spa services are excellent but a bit overpriced. The place is great for surfers, but if you like swimming that would be a challenge. Ocean is warm and shallow, but the waves are quite big.

I recently attended a wedding function at Marriott Weligama and had a great experience overall. The hall where the function took place was spacious and could easily accommodate around 100 to 150 guests. The food was average, but I really enjoyed the black pork curry. One thing to note is that there are some restrictions in certain areas of the hotel, such as the pool area, which is understandable for privacy reasons. However, the service was quite nice, and there was valet parking available for convenience. The beach view from the hotel is stunning and definitely worth mentioning. However, I did find the lobby area to be a bit boring-looking. Overall, I would say that Marriott Weligama is a great place to host a wedding or any other event. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and the facilities are well-maintained. I highly recommend this hotel and would give it five stars for my experience.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Marriott Weligama hotel and I must say, it was a delightful experience from start to finish. While I may not have a specific title for this review, I assure you that my overall impression of the hotel was exceptional. Allow me to elaborate on the various aspects that made my stay truly memorable. First and foremost, I was thoroughly impressed by the hotel staff. They were incredibly responsive, friendly, and always ready to assist with a warm smile. Their attentive nature and genuine care for the guests truly enhanced the overall hospitality experience. One aspect that immediately caught my attention was the impeccable cleanliness throughout the hotel. From the lobby to the rooms, everything was spotless and well-maintained. It was evident that the hotel takes great pride in upholding high standards of cleanliness, which made me feel comfortable and at ease during my entire stay. Now, let's talk about the food. The hotel's culinary offerings were simply outstanding. With a wide variety of options available, I found myself spoilt for choice. From breakfast to dinner, the meals were delectable and thoughtfully prepared. While the hummus fell slightly short of my Lebanese expectations, I must emphasize that the rest of the food was truly amazing. The variety and quality, combined with reasonable prices, left me thoroughly satisfied. Moving on to entertainment, the Marriott Weligama hotel truly excels in providing options for leisure and fun. The presence of a football table, ping pong table, and billiards pool added a playful element to my stay. It was refreshing to have these activities readily available, offering a great way to unwind and connect with fellow guests. The hotel's location by the beach was another highlight of my stay. Although the wind and high waves created a not so good swimming atmosphere, it was perfect for surfing enthusiasts. My daughter even managed to learn how to surf in just five minutes with the help of a skilled instructor she found on-site. The beach, albeit a bit windy, offered a picturesque setting for relaxation and beachside activities. Now, let's talk about the rooms. The spacious accommodations with stunning ocean views left a lasting impression on me. The rooms were tastefully decorated, and the wide balcony provided a tranquil space to enjoy the scenery. The highlight for me was the luxurious bathtub, allowing me to indulge in a soothing bath while gazing at the mesmerizing ocean vistas. However, I must address the only negative aspect I encountered during my stay, which was the fridge in the room. Unfortunately, it did not cool effectively, and we had to rely on the hotel's fridge outside the room to store our beverages. While this was a notable inconvenience, it did not overshadow the overall exceptional experience. In conclusion, my stay at the Marriott Weligama hotel was nothing short of extraordinary. The attentive and friendly staff, impeccable cleanliness, delicious food (excluding the hummus), abundant entertainment options, breathtaking beach, spacious rooms with stunning ocean views, and the only minor issue with the fridge made my experience truly memorable. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a remarkable and enjoyable stay in Weligama.

Really love the view, amazing room and it’s view. Even you don’t go out of the room, you won’t miss the feeling. I had to stay in the room because of my baby. Still I enjoyed every minute of it. Good customer service. Didn’t like the food much, means good but standard of some of the food was questionable compared to the original dish. Indian butter chicken, green Thai curry was not quit like original and pastries as well. Worth for the money. It was my birthday we stayed. Thank you for the treat and quick decos you arranged. Love to come Again.

We were suggested by our friends to stay in Weligama and ditch bentota.. And we are happy that we did the same. Beautiful hotel, wonderful staff and location is mesmerizing. Rooms- very clean rooms. The hotel maintenance is bang on. All the rooms have sea view. F&B- we used all their outlets and we were floored, not only by the food but the service too. The enthusiastic youngsters who have very good eye for detail. Kudos to each one of them. Ever smiling and ready with solutions. By far one of the best F&B staff we came across Marriott hotels. Also the chefs were equally involved in understanding your food preferences. The Indian Chef came to us to check if we want anything Indian, he will make it for us. Who will not love getting pampered like this. Pool was very clean and beach was just their. There are various indoor games too near to the pool where you can spent quality time with your family. I would highly recommend this hotel to all. Must visit if you are in Sri Lanka

Beautiful hotel, advanced rooms, excellent service, affordable and delicious food. You'd have to spend 10x to find a better hotel, and there's certainly no better one in Waligama unless you want to experience the local way. We especially were amazed by the lobby of the hotel. It is completely open, and presents the sea to you in such a stunning way. Highly recommend, we'll be back.

I have been to the hotel Marriott several times. It is a very nice place with a very friendly service. The buffet is very tasty for all three meals and also there are many varieties to choose. I also had my birthday party here. The rooms are very clean and the view from the balcony is so calming.

I am grateful to the management of the hotel for organizing my party at the last moment and for arranging more than I expected. I have never met a hotel with such friendly staff and I am very happy that they accepted such a party at the last minute and they even prepared food as I didn’t expect. The food is really delicious. Finally, thank you very much to the organizing committee of the hotel, the employees and all the chefs and all of you who stayed with me until the end of my party and made my party beautiful without any flaws. The special thing was that I had to organize my party so suddenly that I was a bit stressed. But the reason I lost that tension throughout my party was the smile on the faces of all the workers in my party at that moment. Many thanks to Marriott Hotel ❤️❤️❤️

Spacious well designed rooms with stunning views of the indian ocean, higher the floor, better the views. Seems to be well maintained with plenty of amenities. Location wise it's comparatively small area compared to similar places, other than the beach and the pool, there was not much else. Food in terms of taste was a mixed bag. On the day we went breakfast/lunch was great, however the dinner was below average. Then again the range of the buffet was the highlight, you could be spoilt for choices. Apart from that, the service was great and staff were friendly and attentive. Overall a good experience.

Best experience from Marriott staff at their Weligama hotel. Perfect location for beach as well as surfing, huge array of food options and 5 star hospitality from staff. Clean and huge rooms, can accommodate a family of 4 with adolescent kids. Definitely one of the must revisit hotels.

  • 3/5 Lanil M. 1 year ago on Google
Let's start with the rooms. Every room has a beautiful sea view. The upper rooms have better views. The facilities in the rooms are very satisfactory. The hotel is in a small area, so there is only a small beach garden, two pools and a few other activities outside. On the day we visited, The lunch and dinner buffet was not good, but the breakfast buffet had many options. I think the location and packed layout of the hotel is not suitable for a relaxing holiday.

  • 5/5 Nipuni de A. 1 year ago on Google
We had an awesome stay! The location is stunning right on the beach, the rooms are very clean, beautifully designed and spacious. All the staff are welcoming and super friendly. Special mention to chef Lanka and supporting staff of Weligama Kitchen and also the front office team. We all had a lovely breakfast, lunch and dinner. Food was delicious! A special thanks to all the staff at Marriott resort who went above and beyond to make our stay memorable 🙏🏽😍 Highly recommended and will definitely go back! I wish I could give more than five stars! 😍

Not worth for the money. There are lots of hotels in Sri Lanka with great views and good food for low budget than this. Rooms are spacious and having very basic amenities. Food is tasty but less variety for the price they charging. Staff is very helpful and cooperative.

  • 5/5 Buddhika D. 1 year ago on Google
All the rooms are sea viewing. Staying 4 days, buffet was Good, but thinks not much variety in each days. Dessert have much varieties. Staff was friendly and helpful. Pool is not a straight one, so had some difficult with the crowd. Suggest management to improve controlling the air-conditioning.

  • 5/5 Shanaka P. 1 year ago on Google
The room was comfy & specious with an amazing view of the sea. Food & service was the major highlight of the hotel. There was wide variety of selection for food and every dish was so tasty. The staff was very friendly and keen on making anything we liked which wasn’t available on the buffet. Thank you Supun and Iran for the super-friendly service. We will definitely come back.
