Excellent park for hiking and running. It’s being renovated in 2019-20 so the improvements make it even better. From May-October: be careful! Bring far more water than you think you need. It can get very hot very quickly and people every year require rescues/medical attention. If you’re not from Arizona or another very hot climate, this tip is for you.

The trail 302 loop was great! Definitely challenging in spots. Bring plenty of water. Bring a flashlight and take the trail in the evening!

One of my favorite hikes, I have done it a couple of times. It's like doing steps for 45 min for an average hiker—beautiful views from the top. Suggested sunrise hike.

Piestewa Peak, Arizona is the second highest point in the Phoenix Mountains. It's 2,610 feet high and is the third highest peak the city of Phoenix. As a 62+ old recreational hiker I thought it was going to be rough and boy was it. The elevation wasn't tough but the climbing straight up the mountain was extremely challenging. It's barely only two miles but don't let that fool you. The scenery is beautiful and when you get to the top you can get a full 360 photo. Please bring plenty of water and go in the morning before the sun gets extremely hot.

I took the kids and my golden doodle puppy. The hike was easy and we all had fun. There is a loop which was only 30 minutes. The only reason why I didn’t give it five stars because the signs were a little confusing and we got lost. But the views are gorgeous. The trail is located in a neighborhood.

This is such a beautiful hike. The view as you go up becomes more and more beautiful. I personally do it at night most of the time because I get off work at 5 so by the time I get there it's already dark. The moon and city light do a great job at illuminating the trail so I've never used a light. I do however appreciate the people that use red lights... Because LED blue and white lights are just so strong to the eyes specially when a lot of people aren't using lights.

The landscape is beautiful! Definitely a great place to hike and take photos. Different trails will give you perspectives. Take plenty of water and sunscreen.

Beautiful! Nothing can spoil the beautiful views of God's handiwork from there but people tearing up the signs of clear markings for trails is dangerous for some of us who are older but new to hiking here. I wish we kept up with our parks better. 🙏

Great local mountain for hiking, getting some fresh air, and getting a great view of Phoenix. There is many trails to choose from, short and easy or long and challenging. There planty of free parking, large shaded picknick tables and clean restrooms

Beautiful in town park! Very busy. Some surpringly challenging hikes. The trails are well marked but we still got confused a couple of times and the freedom trail which is listed as a 3.5 mile loop taking just over 2 hours to complete took us just under 5, we r old codgers tho. We were surprised how much we enjoyed our hike. The people we encountered on the trail we friendly n respectful. Highly recommend 👌 👍

Many trails and trailheads on this Preserve. I tend to do the 40th street trailhead and Piestewa Peak trail. The latter is a major challenge to get to the peak. Nearly 2600ft of elevation. 40th street trailhead has many smaller low elevation trails and a difficult peak trail.

Hands down my favorite hike is Squaw (Piestewa) Peak. A steady uphill climb, it's not for the faint of heart. Great hike, and spectacular views. If it behooves you, get to the top for the sunrise. Ken plays the drums, and "Amazing Grace" on a wind instrument as the sun rises. An experience you don't want to miss!!!

The couple of smaller peaks next to Piestewa are great for a couple of reasons. They have multiple routes to the top...steadier and steeper inclines. People will feel the challenge, but also, most anyone can make it to the peaks! Beautiful views, and friendly hikers. The parking on 32nd St and Lincoln is very tiny! If you go in the morning, go early! Otherwise you'll be waiting in a line of cars to park.

I've been hiking here for nearly 20 years and am still fascinated by it. We are so lucky to have this marvelous park right in the middle of our big city. There are so many trail options that I can adjust my hike to what I want to do. The desert terrain and flora is beautiful and you can access it from so many trailheads. Thank you to the foresight someone had to preserve this area many years ago. I do suggest you print out a map if you're not used to hiking as it can be easy to get a little turned around. Also, I usually access this park from the north side.

There are so many amazing trails to take here, I was sad we only had time for one. I can't remember the name of the trailhead we ended up choosing, but it was a wonderful hike and had some spectacular views. Will definitely check it out again if we get to the Phoenix area.

This was the first trail I've checked out in Phoenix since moving here back in December, Bathrooms and water I believe were at the entrance which is great. I got there around 830am which is on the later side and it was very hot out already in early April! I had a camelback bladder with me so I was good to go, but make sure you bring lots of water! This is a very busy trail, I probably saw 15-20 people during the 3 mile hike I did here. The trail markers are okay and honestly, this is probably not the most beautiful trail in the area, but it was a good for a quick hike.

Lots of trails throughout the mountain preserve. One I like is Shaw Butte. Mostly a steep dirt road used to service the towers.

This is a beautiful though difficult hike. You may want to get there early (and/or carpool) for a designated parking spot, as parking is limited and you may have to park on the side of the road in the preserve. The trail to the top of Piestewa Peak is generally well constructed, with mostly groomed rock trail versus dirt and gravel, though there are places where you will step up two or more feet. There are a few benches and places to rest. Definitely bring something to stay hydrated.

Dreamy Draw park is outstanding! It has been closed for 2 years, and since reopening, the upgrades are significant. It has many levels of trails for every level of fitness. My favorite part is this is a desert park that is VERY doggo friendly.

Went here for a tour. Nice little hike where you can see a beautiful sunset. Would recommend going up around 5pm! Beautiful view of Phoenix. Was told this place was the exact middle of Phoenix. If you are looking for an easy hike with a beautiful view, check this place out!

  • 4/5 Shawn M. 4 years ago on Google
Hiked the summit trail (300) this is a challenging and steep hike. Lots of rock face and steep drop offs. The reward is a beautiful view and a short rest before heading down. This trail is narrow at points so choose rest points wisely (benches at various spots) so not to create choke points for runners. Recommend this trail enthusiastically, great " in city hike"....

This is 15 minutes from downtown Phoenix - and my standby for hiking/walking /running. Parking can be tricky inside the park but plenty to be found if you're willing to walk from the main road.

  • 5/5 Arista H. 4 years ago on Google
Great place for a hike or family gathering. The facilities include benches, picnic tables and restrooms. Very clean. Restoration or construction is happening at one of the spots and that does not interfere with daily activities at the park.

I came here for sunrise. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I just parked in the first lot and climbed a small mountain nearby. As the sun rose, I became aware of another mountain nearby, I could see little dots moving, I then realized those were people and if I was this close I couldn’t leave without climbing that giant double diamond rated mountain(didn’t know that till I got there). The police academy was training and they were suppose to make it in 35 minutes! I gave it my best shot, took a few breaks and made it to the top of the mountain. It was glorious. Here are a few photos. Follow me on Instagram to see more @CTSNature

Great place to go for a hike. Main trail to the top of the mountain is usually pretty busy. The loop trails are pretty nice. It's a great space to experience some spaciousness. Luckily for us, the parking and amenities are being renovated. The city of phoenix also has a few ramadas. If you like hiking, give it a chance.

We went ATV riding with monster ATV starting here. Absolutely amazing scenery and service. The ATVs are brought to this remote location and are hauled away after the two hour ride. No store front just our ATVs waiting for us. We had a guide in front and back, and the ride was challenging and glorious!!!

Lookout Mountain is a nice local hike, there are a couple of trails. It's a short hike to the top but may be a little too vertical for some. The loop trail around the base is less strenuous and a little bit longer. Parking is always an issue as there are only about 15 spots.

It's a nice enough park. But there was only one area that had covered picnic tables area. It was quite full, with plenty of people. It was nice to see people walking their dogs. The views aren't the best. But it had a nice view of State Route 51.

Didn't take the Piestewa Peak hike. Took the lower trail across the way. Well marked, clear trail. Nice views of the City. Too bad the air quality wasn't great. The construction for the parking lot and some trail access won't be completed until Spring 2022. 😲 Still a fun little hike and plenty of covered picnic table access.

What are the most beautiful things about Arizona in particular Phoenix is the preserves an area high desert undeveloped spaces in the middle of the city winding its way from North to South and that is the Phoenix mountain preserve. The preserves also have good well maintained paths of various complexity.

Started at the Tatum trailhead and walked deep in to the middle of the preserve stopping at a saddle with a stone bench on the pinkish purple trail. Very pretty hike once you get past the houses on either side of the trailhead and first half mile-ish. I never quite got secluded in nature, but for a hike in the middle of a very suburban area, it's pretty top notch. Started around 8:30 AM on a Friday and practically had the place to myself on the way in. Was much more crowded on the way out. Didn't see much wildlife when here in late January. You can keep the hike pretty easy if you done go on any of the peak trails or over the ridgelines. The trails are nice, but very rocky, so be sure to do hiking shoes at a minimum.

Dreamy draw recreational area, it has some small abrupt climbs, I was part of a group I joined through meetup, so the organiser knew the area well, I Was enjoying the led-hike but I had never been there before.. The place where the hike ends it looks like a horse shoe and you are in the middle part with semi circle of rocks and hills surrounding you, this is where you find the bats I heard of, there is apparently a bat cave with a lot of bats.. in the same area where the hike ends, there are boulders that can accommodate at least 10 people each sitting on their own rock and can enjoy a snack or a meal..

Great spot for mountain biking and hiking! Once you're up in the central trail system just pick some trails and go. Time is your only limiter and there a lot of fun trails to be had. Good views. If you're mountain biking. DO NOT try to ride up from the south side (Dreamy Draw-32nd St). Way too many rock ledges to huck your bike up.

Thankfully read reviews mentioning limited parking - so arrived at 7.30 am and found a slot. Lots of early walkers who were descending mountains heading off to work. Nov temp was deliciously cool. I took it leasuirely and 1.5 hours round trip. Great little urban walk.

We parked at the Dreamy Draw rec area. The trails are great but the signage is terrible - all trails didn’t work either. So we went a mile, knew we were off track, and went back same way to be safe. Will try again next time but since they just spent so much time and money redoing everything; thought the signage on the trail would be better.

  • 5/5 Donna M. 5 months ago on Google
It's so beautiful here at Dreamy Draw. There are lots of trails of different ranges. Some are natural terrain, and some easier, which are sidewalk. Maps can help guide you. There are restrooms and water fountains as well as a hand sanitizer station. Pets are welcome as well. Please bring disposal bags, to pick up their droppings. And always bring water with you, especially for your pet, since they cannot always "tell" you they are thirsty or overheated. Respect and enjoy nature walks here.

One of my favorite places in Phoenix to visit as much as I can for hiking. It’s like outlet, hidden place in the center of Phoenix … may be like Central Park in New York City ? …. Here, from the top of mountains you can see the city below… in smoky dense air. You can see the rise of pollution. No one notice except when you are high in the mountains. It is calm there, some chipmunks and birds. The weather was perfect, Friday December 8, no coat, no sweat.

Nice moderate hike. Can get rocky in places as with most Phoenix Mtn trails. 400 ft vertical over a mile, so can get strenuous at times. Great views of Phoenix at several points along the trail.
