Some purely amazing ruins. If you're anything like me when I first hear "ruins" I don't get too excited. But oh boy was I wrong here. Seeing the famous Buddha head in the tree alone was quite the site. Then to see this amazing architecture both overgrown and seeing a bit of what used to be was very worth. Such an amazing place and very beautiful. Well worth the drive

This place is amazing. You could spend hours looking through the ruins imagining what they would have been like originally. There's also another entire section of temples across the road, behind where everyone else goes at the main tourist area, which is in fact more intact, and it's only a two minute walk to the next block, where there are no tourists at all. This place is truly an amazing temple complex and it covers a very large area. It's located right next to one of the main streets of town, so easy to get a drink, meal or tuk-tuk nearby also. Entry to the main park is 10 baht (around 40 cents AUD). As part of the Ayutthaya Historical Park, it is highly recommended to add this place to your list of places to visit in Thailand, and there's another eight or nine temple complexes within spitting distance! You could literally spend a week looking at them all. It is only an hour and twenty minutes from Bangkok by taxi and expect to pay around 2,000 baht (around $80 AUD) for a return trip. If you find a good English-speaking taxi driver, they'll even give you a guided tour and get you around town.

One of the famous historical temples located in Ayutthaya. This temple is famous for the Buddha face covered in the Banyan Tree. Overall the temple is clean and very well maintained. For foreigners, you have to pay 50 baht for the entrance fee. You can borrow an umbrella at the entrance to use it in the temple.

The temples are so beautiful. The area was clean enough. 50 baht for foreigners ticket, but really worth. You can borrow in the entrance gate for free! because the weather around is quite hot.

Stunning ruins from the Ayattuya period. Well kept gardens, friendly staff. 50baht per foreigner. Umbrellas provided on entry as protection from the beaming sun. There were loads of bats sleeping inside the temple.

Must visit historic site at Thailand. The Buddha head in tree roots is one of the main attraction bring me here and it’s not dissipated me as well. More and more eye catching historic buildings will rejuvenate our eyes. You can except more tourists here and you can spend well if you are even planing a day trip as well. The simplicity of the location is worth visiting. Also, it’s a sacred place so please be responsible.

We went here at around 8:00am — before the crowds arrived. If you will go here, go in shirt and pants (for men) and cover your shoulders (for women). This place is still a Buddhist temple that the locals recognize and respect. At that time, parking is easy.

Very large area. They have a tree with a Buddha head in it (the Buddha head was placed their many years ago and the tree grew to envelope parts of it). Many old ruins and stupas. Good place to walk around and take pictures. Be sure to wear plenty of sun screen.

If you go here during Thailand hottest months like April or May, I would recommend visiting at 5 PM for the most pleasant experience. The air is cooler, more comfortable to walk around and the sky is still bright until 6 and you can catch sunset. The whole complex is very nice, giving you the feeling of travelling to the past. You may want to go to some museums in town first to get the context.

A must-see temple when you visit Ayutthaya. The temple was built since the 14th century and become one of the most impressive temples in the Ayutthaya Kingdom for almost 400 years before completely destroyed in 1767 because of Burma invasion.

Really nice place near bangkok ( 100km far) you can go by railway in hualamphong mrt station with 15baht for one person, thats really really cheap, I cant image that. For transportation, no need to think more. About eating, thể are a lot restaurant and coffee with cake here, close each place so do not need to worry if the weather is hot. Shoud use sunscream all day to protect ur skin, take umrella or hot. Lets rent tradional dress to take photos, really nice too

This place is nice and impressive with the Buddha head grow inside the roots of the tree. It was crowded around the Buddha head in tree but other parts of this scenic spot. When taking picture with the Buddha head, you must sit down to show respect. Even for a selfie, the guard will also ask you to lowered your body. Tickets are sold at the entrance. The ticket is 10b for local and 50b for foreigner. Do take note, for the foreigner who resides in Thailand must also pay the foreigner price which is 50b. No matter you hold a long term visa, Thai driver license or the pink identity card. Toilet is charged 5b per head.

Calm and peaceful spot to visit. U can feel the magnificent and strong architecture of its past by looking at the sculpture and buildings. One of the must come place when you visit Ayutthaya! ⚠️ Remember to wear long pants or at least short that covered your knee. Else, you may get ask to change for that.

You shouldn't miss these ruins when visiting Ayutthaya. It's pleasant to walk, even on a hot day because there is plenty of shade by trees. Also there are restrooms, shops and a coffee shop at the entrance.

Beautiful big old temple. Popular. 10 baht for Thais, 50 baht for foreigners 😜... kinda sexist. Guys in shorts are OK but ladies have to cover legs. Go figure. ...some gift shops where you can buy sarongs to cover up if needed. Clean bathrooms for 5 baht.

It's a beautiful heritage site. Tree around buddha head is really mesmerizing. Place is crowded but well organised and worth visiting. From 20 December to new year it is free for all visitors. Paid washrooms are available.

If you like climbing .. walking .. open-air museums.. 14th century history.. well then.. this is your kinda place. Wear comfortable shoes.. light clothing.. an umbrella and buckets of sunscreen. Thai entrance fee 10THB. Foreigners entrance fee 50THB. . Some serious scenic spots for social media shoots.. be aware of a modest dress code and when shooting with the Buddha image lower yourself below the face in the overgrown roots or you will be facing a stern reprimand from the security guard on duty.

Ruins are cool and probably the most unique you’ll see in the area with the Buddha head in the tree. Cost 50 thb to get in and staff are friendly and helpful. They will make you cover up if your shorts are too short, especially women. There are places on site to buy clothes if need be and the prices are very reasonable.

What to say, old historical temples absolutely worth a visit. Little unlucky there was some restoration going on, makes it feel less wonderful to se construction going on. BUT also feels good they’re taking care of the place.

Visited this place in the weekend in the afternoon. The view and ambience is amazing and calming. The air was just right while we walk and see the different structure that I'm sure has so much history. It is a must to visit the Buddha's head in the roots of the tree. Dont forget to be at level of the head to be respectful. As a Photographer, I had joy in taking some pictures of the structures and the design of the place.

A very historical site of temple ruins. The most famous is the Buddha head in the banyan tree. It's pretty sad to see the Buddha images missing their heads which was a result of attacks during the Thai-Burmese war. The structures are also leaning due to floods and soft soil.

This is the last temple we visited in Ayutthaya. Here you’ll see the iconic Buddha head wrapped in the tree root. We noticed a lot of headless buddha statues everywhere, and the heads are piled in the corner. Despite of our tiredness, we still managed to walk around the area to see the full ground scale of this magnificent and ancient temple before it turned into a ruin.

One of the historical place of Thailand. You can see here the Buddha head on the roots. The place is clean and presentable. A lot of tourist visit the site.

Wat Maha That, is just simply stunning, I put this temple complex up there with Ankor Wat, although it's not on not such a grand scale as Ankor, the sites still boasts some of the most outstanding views!! And you will definitely be "wowed" If you are fit and adventurous enough, ditch the tour guide, tuk tuk and bicycle, and walk the site, you will be amazed at how many hidden gems there are hiding around the site that are away from the busy tourists like Wat Thammikarat, it's free!! And equally as stunning, packed with colourful Cockerells and unusual gifts, the most welcoming monks who are so happy to see that you've taken the time to visit, not forgetting a stunning temple ruin,

A pretty big and soar out temple. Not a lot of coverage from the sun. Really interesting history and things to see. The ruins are fascinating. The most interesting thing is the Buddha head in the tree.

  • 5/5 JR S. 5 months ago on Google
The busiest of all the temples I visited in the city as you can find in this one the head of Buddha in the tree. When taking pictures remember you need to sit and you can take a picture standing up as a sign of respect as otherwise you are above him. Also you need to remove any hat.

  • 5/5 Thanhvan T. 5 months ago on Google
Beautiful place I really recommend it. I was lucky there wasn't too many people and I didn't have to wait. It is very lovely you have to go! Be aware it is very hot, wear a hat! Also better to wear sleeves and long trouser or skirt

The famous buddha head in the tree could be found here. The whole area is big and well maintained. It would be great if the ruin could be restored, especially the existing slanted structure.

We especially went to this temple ruines for the buddha head in a tree, which is something you really have to keep an eye out for because it's quite easy to miss, but the ruines overall are very beautiful and definitely worth a visit.

Extraordinary and spiritual journey. This ancient temple in Ayutthya, Thailand is not only a historical treasure but also a place where nature and culture coexist. Highlight of my visit was the mesmerizing sight of Buddha head entwined in the roots of a tree. The moment u lay eyes on it, you can feel a profound sense of peace and reverence.

Of the six temples on the combo entry ticket, this one was definitely worth a visit. I'll let my photos tell the story. One note - there were ramps for those in a wheelchair to access the main part of the temple grounds.

Beautiful place to visit and walk around. We came at sunset which brought totally different lighting. In fact we arrived just before they closed so we’re almost the only people inside making photos easier. Perfect timing except for almost becoming a feast for the mosquitoes, so if you aim to do this bring mosquito spray.

The very first spot in Thailand to start the historical cultural trip. This ruin temple was under the care of UNESCO with a variety of pagoda tower and Buddha relic. Red, orange brick and green grass make every spot memorable. You can still find some low relief art from the 16th century in certain buildings. Here is the place of Buddha embedded in Banyan tree. Parking is available for tourist with 10 Baht fee for Thai and 50 Baht for foreigner. This temple connects to different historical site with a big park.

  • 5/5 Watchara Somprasong (. 2 years ago on Google
The name of the temple means the temple of  the great relics  because it enshrined the relics of  the Buddha.

This is the temple with a Buddha in the tree. Remember if you're taking a selfie to put your head beneath Buddha's! The most popular temple to explore in the area. Expect large tour groups when visiting.

Due to the Covid pandemic, the place is a lot less people. Nice visit in general. Would recommend to others.

  • 4/5 Pimonmal R. 2 years ago on Google
Little parking space available, entrance fee is 50.- for foreigners and 10.- for Thai nationals. Watch out, need to be dressed appropriately, no shorts and tops that are "flashy" Due to COVID, quite empty which was nice. Some nice green walking space around the temple area. Sometimes area used for concerts and events, so will see stands being built behind the location.

A must when in Ayutthaya, shame doors close at 16:30 in the winter and summer months. Being able to stroll around the grounds as the sun goes down would be much more appreciated by people rather than the sweltering heat

  • 5/5 Sudarut W. 2 years ago on Google
A must to visit! The signature of The head of a Buddha image embedded in the roots of a Banyan tree! Unfortunately due to the pandemic, their closing time is 16.30 instead of 18.00 so I missed to take a photo of this!

  • 5/5 roxen j. 1 year ago on Google
Had a great time here. Lots of historical significance. Definitely a must visit, it's a doable day trip from Bangkok. Would recommend renting a bicycle (50 baht) to get around the area. It is quite sunny so best to bring a hat, water, and sunscreen haha Also need to dress appropriately to enter the temples. Entrance fee costs 50 baht.

Amazing Ayutthaya - Amazing Thailand! Pictures can never tell the full story of this majestic ancient city. Wat Mahathat should be your first stop in the Ayutthaya Historical Park to begin an appreciation for the scale of the former capital. Visiting these ruins helps transport you to a time and place which we can now only imagine.

Amazing and Mythic place. This place is mostly known for the Buddhas head rooted into the tree. All the temples has a specific vibe if you didn't see such architecture before. Its worth to see it at least once. We were there 12/2019 and I'm glad I was there.

A historical place in Ayutthaya. When you go there make sure to bring hat or umrella if it's summer, so you can roam all over the place without getting sun burnt. It's a good experience to go there and take pictures.

This is where the famous Buddha head in the tree. And also a place where you can take nice IG photos but foreigners has to pay 50 baht (5 times) more to go in. I definitely can afford the entrance fee but I still do not support dual pricing.

This temple is the center of Administration and Buddhism during Early Ayutthaya period around 14 century. If you wanna look back to the Glorious of Ayutthaya which is the former capital city of Thailand. I recommend this place. The highlight of this temple is the Buddha Image which was covered by the tree. It's so unique.

One of the many sites with ruins. However, this one is famous for the Buddha head in a banyan tree . Be aware: females do need to cover their shoulders and knees when entering this site. Otherwise you need to buy a sarong or dress at the shops nearby. Entrance fee was 30 THB per person.
