This place was a beautiful park, however it loses stars for the elephants. People claim to love elephants due to the relationship Thai people and elephants have had for centuries however these elephants are not worshiped at all. They are chained in a concrete area where you pay to hand them food. They also have elephant circuses and elephant rides. The only greenery they see is when you pay to take the elephant for a walk around the block. The park is lovely however some areas are poorly kept with trash lying around. If you come, definitely get a tuktuk and negotiate a price, by bike was nice but the roads are terrifying and I’m sure with a tuktuk you’d get to see more! Overall good experience but the elephants dampened it! If you decide to cycle definitely don’t forget your sunscreen even if it’s overcast 😅

Really amazing ancient town. Even though it needs lots of renovation, but judging by the ruin layout, it’s super impressing. Came here during their Songkran festival, elephants are out spraying water on people. It seems whole town of the people are here to have some fun! It’s more fun than in Bangkok.

Ayutthaya is a city in Thailand, around one hour from Bangkok. It was the capital of the Kingdom of Siam from the year of 1350 to 1767. What's left now is only the ruins of the old city, called The Ayutthaya Historical Park, an archaeological site that contains palaces, Buddhist temples, monasteries and statues. Sometimes I wonder, what they saw when they build those statues and buildings, the people from the past. Putting the brick one by one with their hands and barely any big tools, creating something that beyond their reality at that time. Did they see the same sky that I saw today? Did they ever think that what they build will stay for hundred years? Did they ever wanna stop? And do anyone of them reincarnated back and maybe are visiting this site sometimes now? However, this is a really good place to really learn about the history of the people before us.

Amazing place to visit where you see the ruins, and remaining temples from the old Ayutthaya capital. To see all the main sites around the park takes about 3-3:30hrs if you walk. There are plenty of tuk-tuk's avalible. The modern city is also a short walk away for food and rest. You have to pay per monument which is around 50baht for foreigners, or you can get a multi ticket for 220baht for foreigners. For Thai people it is much less.

You can visit the Ayutthaya historical park, which is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Thailand. The ruins of the old city are quite well preserved. You can visit Ayutthaya as a daytrip from Bangkok, or stay for one night while you're travelling up north.

Ayutthaya is a must see if you visit Bangkok. You can take the train (very cheap, or with airconditioning just cheap). Best way to see the historical park is by scooter: you can rent one for only 200 Bath/day!

This is the culture of Thailand, the Kingdom. Enjoy the visit, be respectful, and have a great time at the beautiful historical park. I would recommend a full day in the region, enjoy some food on the river when you are done visiting Ayutthaya. Plenty of tasty drinks outside the park, would also recommend grabbing one.

(Translated by Google) Once in a lifetime you should take your family to visit the former capital city with a history of more than 538 years or more. There is an ancient archaeological site to walk to commemorate the grand construction of Lang City. They are very well organized. The entrance fee to the ancient site is 10 baht per person. Foreigners 50 baht is like helping maintenance fees and staff who help to look after the park. We should also respect this place as a preservation of what remains for our children and grandchildren to see for a long time. When you visit, you should come in the morning or afternoon so that the weather is not very hot. If you are in Bangkok, even with a limited number of days this place is worth visiting. It’s all unesco sites, the first and former capital of the Kingdom of Siam. It’s where all started. The temples, chedis and pagodas are unique! It’s highly recommended and just 1 hour drive north from Bangkok.

One of the best temple complexes in Thailand. Has a lot of history and its quiet well maintained. Not so far from Bangkok (about 1,5 hour drive ). Loved the old ruins which remind a lot of Cambodian Temples. You should consider at least a two hour walk if you wanna see everything. This time of the year can get really busy because of the Thai television program which is set over there. Plenty of space for parking and entrance fee is 50.- baht

Historical place and a must see whenever you visit Bangkok. The old capital of Thailand, an authentic landmark. Make sure to have water, sun screen protection and maybe rent a bike for the visit as they are not very close to each other. Many potential guides available on site but they don't speak good English. You can buy individual tickets for each site or a unique ticket for 5 different sites.

Steeped in history and not really another place like Ayutthaya so great for budding historians and tourist alike , to get a glimpse into one of the greatest cities in its day and one of the largest trading posts, The city was founded in 1351 and until its fall in 1767 when it was taken over by a war with the Burmese it saw a succession of power struggles. Today all that is left are some ruins, but these are in great order and really give you a sense of what it used to be like. The actual ruins are at many different sites and they are all great, and worth a visit if you have a couple of days to spare. Plenty of parking and admission is very reasonable , with some sites free. A must see place if you are near !!

We spent a fairly interesting morning here a few days ago. Though the oppressive heat makes it hard to hang around for too long, the ruins were definitely worth a visit. It's sad that they've had to place warning signs on all of them asking tourists not to climb them though... Respect is common sense, as they say here. There's also a little souvenir market just past the entrance for anyone looking to take some history home with 'em.

If you’re interested in learning more about the history and culture of the Land of Smiles, one of the best places to visit in Thailand is the ancient Ayutthaya Historical Park. The ruins of this former kingdom are quite impressive and a lot of fun to explore. While it’s a doable day trip from Bangkok, you may want to stay a night or two to make sure you see all of the Ayutthaya temples. A Brief History of Ayutthaya Historical Park The Kingdom of Ayutthaya lasted from 1350 until 1767 and was founded by King U Thong after the decline of Sukhothai – which is another excellent set of ruins you should definitely visit in Thailand, by the way. U Thong had the Ayutthaya temples built on an island surrounded by three rivers that connected the city to the sea. This strategic location protected the kingdom from invaders as well as floods. This prime location helped Ayutthaya develop into one of the largest urban areas in the world. It became a hub of diplomacy and trade, as merchants from all corners of the globe flocked here. When the nearby kingdom of Angkor fell, it was Ayutthaya that filled the void. At its peak, Ayutthaya had around one million inhabitants. Thanks to its location between China, India, and the Malay archipelago, it developed into the trading capital of the world. It was a place where east and west met and did business, with Chinese, Arabs, Portuguese, French, Indians and more trading with each other. When European traders returned home, they described Ayutthaya as the grandest city they had ever seen. Indeed, the king spared no expenses with the construction of this expansive kingdom. All of the Ayutthaya temples were elegantly decorated in a variety of styles, showing fine craftsmanship and artistic detail. As the history books show us, all good things tend to come to an end at some point. The Burmese invaded Ayutthaya in 1765 and took the city after two bloody years of fighting. They stole the kingdom’s treasures, enslaved the people, and burned many of the Ayutthaya temples to the ground. Rather than rebuild, the king had the capital moved down the river to Thonburi. The ruins of the Ayutthaya temples were restored centuries later, and they received UNESCO World Heritage status in 1991. Now that you know a bit about the history of this former Siamese kingdom, it’s time to plan your trip to the Ayuttaya Historical Park.

Last minute decision to visit and glad we did. A few things to note, if you Grab or Taxi ask them to drop you off at Wat Mahathat otherwise getting a bike or tuk tuk will be really difficult. You will not be able to see all the sites without transport. We paid 600bht for a 2 hour tour of the sites. Also Wat Mahathat has good lunch options across the road. Although the park is free, you do need to pay for entrance to some of the relics (we were lucky to go when it was free as a celebration of the new year). Download a map before you go as they do not have maps to get around. In terms of transport, we used a Grab to get there from Bangkok and it was really easy to get a Grab on the way home from Wat Mahathat area. About an hour and a half each way.

Interesting historical place, old town Thailand Capital is located 70 km away from Bangkok. The Historic City of Ayutthaya, founded in 1350, was the second capital of the Siamese Kingdom. It flourished from the 14th to the 18th centuries, during which time it grew to be one of the world’s largest and most cosmopolitan urban areas and a center of global diplomacy and commerce. Ayutthaya was strategically located on an island surrounded by three rivers connecting the city to the sea. This site was chosen because it was located above the tidal bore of the Gulf of Siam as it existed at that time, thus preventing attack of the city by the sea-going warships of other nations. The location also helped to protect the city from seasonal flooding. At present, it is located in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. The total area of the Unesco World Heritage property is 289 ha.✅ Visited January 2023

Wow!! I am so glad I went to Ayutthaya... it was a last minute decision, and was one of my highlights during my trip to Bangkok. It was easy to get the train from Bangkok to ayutthaya and there were options to hire a bike or get a tuktuk around the historical park. The history, the buildings and the energy here was 🙌🏽. Pack sunscreen, water, a hat and your sunnies if you're visiting during summer.

Beautiful place filled with so much history. It was founded almost 500 years ago and has many well preserved areas within the large complex of ruins. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Wat Chaiwatthanaram complex was particularly impressive. You can wander freely amongst most of ruins. Great site to take pictures. You can get the most out of your visit by getting a local guide familiar with the history.

(Translated by Google) A huge cultural park covering the entire historic part of the city. A paradise for lovers of wandering through ruins that contain a piece of Thai history. After reaching the train station, Tuk-Tuk drivers will be waiting for you. It is worth negotiating with them hard, because you can boldly lower the price by 30-40%. Ideally, you should spend 4 hours visiting all the ruins. If you have more time or less money then a bicycle alternative can be selected. It is also worth buying a collective ticket for the temples. It is more profitable than buying individual tickets.

Although it lays in ruins today, the history of the place is richer than one can imagine. Have you ever heard this name before? No? Well then shame on you! As we are so extremely euro centric, it can slip from our knowledge that the history of the world does not equal history of Europe. As a fun fact that not many people know - this former capital of Thailand (and most of the Souteastern Asia) used to be the largest and most populous city in the world, reaching towards one milion inhabitants in 1700s. And admit it. You thought it was London, right? :D So, what can you actually expect here? Well, the city itself is quite a modern metropolis, a bit of a satelite city to Bangkok. The historic parts, mainly the ancient buddhist temples, are part of the Ayutthaya historical park. But do not expect any fenced museum. The temples rise from the ground all around, surrounded by more modern buildings, parks and roads. Each of the temples has their own entrance fee, so there is no need to buy any kind of a pass to the whole park. more on my Youtube channel Lex Universe :)

Great for a day trip! I love the park, but please go there early before all the tourist groups get there and take enough water with you as it’s quite sunny and hot. Loved to go around by bike. Went there by train via Hua Lamphong Bangkok. Super easy and comfy ride.

This place is amazing. We were fortunate and visited the place mid October in the afternoon. There were only a few people around, which was a true blessing. We were a group of three and our guide explained to us the rich history of that place. Without a guide, it’s still worth looking, but I’d recommend visiting with someone knowing this place. During high season, this place seems to be very crowded according to the guide. Try visiting in the afternoon rather than the morning. Enjoy 🙏

We originally planned to take a train from Bangkok to here, not really understanding the scope of what we would have been getting into. Since there were 5 of us, we ended up hiring a taxi/driver, who waiting while we explored the individual sites. Well worth it. Fascinating and beautiful place.

Fantastic temples and ruins all within biking distance. We biked 15 km one day to sites on the other side of the river. Each site is well set up and some get very few visitors which was fantastic. Modest dress is required at most so plan ahead.

Great place to learn about Thai history. There are lots of beautiful temples to visit you could spend a few days and not get bored. If you're looking for a day trip from Bangkok Ayutthaya has a lot to offer.

One of the highlights of Thailand and can be done as a day trip from Bangkok. Highly recommend hiring one of the tuk tuk drivers when coming out of the station. Traffic in the area to get to the temples is no joke-one of our travel companions ending up getting in an accident on one of those motorbikes, so I would highly recommend just getting a tuk tuk. It's way less work and less effort to think about. The prices aren't too crazy. We paid about $15 USD per person for a half day tour. Note: Visited prior to COVID, so things may be different now.

History and heritage is always on my list whenever I travel to any new place. I had already decided to visit Ayutthaya when my travel plan to Thailand was finalised. Ayutthaya ( Ayodhya ) is a city in Thailand, about 80 kilometers north of Bangkok. It was the second capital of the Kingdom of Siam, and a prosperous international trading port, from 1350 until razed by the Burmese in 1767. The ruins of the old city now form the Ayutthaya Historical Park, a UNESCO world heritage archaeological site that contains palaces, Buddhist temples, monasteries and statues. The park is on an island between 3 rivers. The name of the city indicates the influence of Hinduism in the region.

Well worth the visit. It is the ruins of the ancient times and only some of the parts are reconstructed. I would recommend you to prepare sun protection cream, umbrella, water and more. It is really sunny and hot. Note that you won't get any grab ride on ayutthaya area. So, I would recommend to get a grab rental from Bangkok.

For those who loves historical sites and ruins, this place is a good option to visit when you're in Ayutthaya. The place is pretty huge, can be hot during the day, however, lots of good photos can be obtained. I departed from Bangkok at 8am and arrived here around 10am. It was a bit chill on the 2nd of February this year. So, I recommend to wear some jacket or cardigan at least if you plan to travel around this months. There is a paid toilet (5 Baht) here but it was very clean and dry. We then went in and explored the place. Unfortunately, we did not have a tour guide nor read the history in advance, so, I wasn't able to fully enjoyed the place. There are lots of shops accros the road to rent traditional Thai outfit that are much cheaper than in Bangkok city. So I guess this can be considered as a plus point here.

Great place with its own aura. Antient capital of Siam Kingdom. There are a lot of stories about this town and place (downtown is historical heart of the city). There are a lot of temples around. There is one of the most sacred place for local people there.

You can book a days tour to this place. The name is derived from the Indian city Ayodhya which was the capital of Lord Ram...from the epic Ramayana. The Thai royal dynasty derives their names from the same epic. A day is a bit small if you like exploring things at your own pace as the expanse is quite big of this ancient thai capital.

Admission tickets are 10 Baht for Thais and 50 Baht for foreigners (regardless whether you have a work permit and/or pink ID card - a pet peeve for many of us foreigners living). That’s fine if you just want to visit one place, but gets annoying if you want to visit more places. Actually, some sites do allow for nice views ‘from the outside’ so you don’t have to pay anything. You just can’t get up close and personal, but IMHO they look nicer from further away. I’ll take the free views, thank you.

(Translated by Google) Ayutthaya Ayutthaya is a transliteration of Ayutthaya in Thailand. It was the capital of the Ayutthaya dynasty in Thailand. It is a historic site hidden in the greenery or an ancient site adjacent to modern buildings. Although it is a ruined wall, those palace relics, splendid Buddha statues and detailed carvings can see the former glory. Bangkok is a 76-kilometer drive away from Ayutthaya. The city is not large and there are many unique temples. , Some have also been included in the "List of World Ancient Ruins". The easiest thing is that you can go back and forth in 2 hours without worrying about the driving problem (of course you can also take the train), and you can complete the transfer in a few hours.

A remarkable place. Whether you go alone and just look around and wander through the ruins, or have a tour guide who gives you a deeper understanding of the history and culture, it’s the most interesting day trip you’ll likely make from Bangkok. A visit to Ayutthaya can be inexpensive or not, starting with a ฿15 train ticket at the low end for the 1.5 to 2 hour trip. Numerous trains leave throughout the day. Bikes can be rented, or it’s a hefty walk to the main historic sights. Plenty of tuk-tuks are at the train station, as well. A few of the places have inexpensive admission tickets but many of the ruins are free. There are places in Ayutthaya where I am reminded of Rome’s Forum, where we likewise witness the irrevocable effects of time and the slow decay of those we put on pedestals.

If I had paid attention to google maps I would have seen have the park is temporarily closed and the other half is deserted. It is pretty obvious when you hit the deserted part. Still pretty cool to walk around. However, make sure you take water and even snack potentially as they are not easily accessible in the area. There were some tied up cattle chilling in one part. That was something.

Ayutthaya is a wonderful historical haven a short hop from Bangkok. It is an ancient site visited by millions who wish to pay respect and soak in the wonder. Most people cycle around and explore in their own time, and there usually coaches of Chinese who arrive. Highlights include the reclining Budda, the temple ruins and the Buddha head in the banyan tree. It's a great area to just walk and explore and enjoy fresh air and sunshine

This was a non planned one day trip from Bangkok and we were fascinated by these amazing ruins. Once you get to the site, by boat, you can choose which temples you want to visit and which ones you can skip because they sell individual tickets and I appreciated this since we didn't have much time available to see everything. I would gladly go back there and visit the temples I haven't seen.
