Brilliant place to go. Plenty to see and a good half a day could be spent here. Firstly though, its a bit pricey to get in. By far the best value is to get an ultimate ticket which means you can go as many times all year round and then it doesn't seem so bad. When I went it was raining. And we got soaked! With social distancing you're asked to queue to get in to each attraction (restricted numbers) but there is no cover or protection from the elements outside, Warrior and Mary Rose and there's a small gazebo outside Victory so if its raining and busy bring a snorkel. If it's sunny, bring a sombrero! Mary Rose exhibition is a must see in my opinion. Staggering to see the remains that were submerged for around 400 years. And 19,000 items were excavated! Overall, a very interesting, educational place to go and a great example of Great British naval history.

Fantastic day out. So much to see. Fascinating insight to navy times if old. The Mary Rose building has many artifacts and audio visual experiences, even displayed within the ship's remnants. Will definitely be returning in a month or so to visit areas we ran out of time for on this visit.

This is a lovely museum. If you have a full navy ticket, it is definitely worth a visit. The Nelson exhibition is very impressive and has a lot of interactive elements. The main exhibition area has a surface computer which is a huge touch screen with almost limitless amounts of information. This was the most impressive part of the museum I feel. The Jolly Roger exhibition was also a lot of fun. The only disappointment was that so many of the interactive parts like the buttons under displays and the touch screen displays don’t seem to work - considering the price we pay to get in, you’d think they’d have a look at that! Otherwise, an enjoyable visit for about an hour or so.

OMG. If you are looking for a Xmas present that keeps on giving then this as a part of the Portsmouth Dockyard experience is a gift which keeps on giving. You can go back as many times as you want within the year. Believe me you need to as you cannot do it all within a couple of days.

Excellent museum within the Historic Dockyard in Portsmouth. This is part of the attractions within this old Portsmouth Naval dockyard. The displays and information especially on Lord Nelson are incredible. The history comes to life here and there are so many fascinating exhibits to look at.

Poor, no atmosphere, with no Falklands 40th anniversary display. What was there had date errors i.e. 3rd May, when it should be 3rd April 1982.

My husband and I visited the museums last month. Unfortunately, upon arrival we were greeted with very poor customer service from management. We both work for National Museums Liverpool and had planned a lovely south coast trip. Working for national museums you gain free entry to all the national museums in the UK. Therefore, we called ahead in advance to ensure everything would be okay on the day of our visit. The guy on the phone was very helpful and explained that as long as we provide our museum ID there should be no problems. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case. The manager who served us was very patronising, condescending and ignorant. I’m not sure if he was new (the brunette guy with painted nails). He had us there for around 20 minutes continuously asking our names etc and who we work for (after providing him with our ID). He exclaimed he knew nothing about it and as we explained our prior phone called, he responded with “I don’t think any guys were working that day?” Almost insinuating that we were lying? It made the vibe super weird and awkward. He finally called someone and eventually let us in. It set the day off in a negative light but we quickly decided to brush it off as we didn’t want to let his attitude ruin our day. The highlight for me was the HMS Victory - the audio tour really brought the ship to life. I think maybe the management/ staff need some training on how to deliver a high standard museum customer service. We visited on 08/07/21

We arrived on a sunny day with a slight breeze so that was good. We bought our tickets online for £31 each. You can park just around the corner for £7 , there's a co-op there so it's worth getting a few drinks and sandwiches if you want. After having our bags checked we went to the submarine museum across the water using the water bus which is included in the price -great!. We then did the various museums, toured Victory -great, had ice-cream (£2 for cone is fair) We also saw the Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier- not part of the museum yet though! After a break we then walked around Warrior , great , we really enjoyed it . We'd recommend it 👍

Very good interpretation. Modern layout which should appeal to all ages. Starts with a Nelson Gallery that focuses on the Adult life of Nelson. Some interesting artifacts but we felt it was built arrond those rather than aspects of his life. To be fair it was more a focus on the Naval Career. Some with a more academic need may feel that the overall history of the Navy was a bit light.

Come early and stay late ... so much to see. We made the mistake of arriving in the afternoon and had to cut our visit short due to 5pm closing. We were charged full price, which seemed a bit odd. Perhaps the organizers would consider the pricing structure to accommodate those with limited time. Must cost a boat load to keep this show a float. :)

Really interesting museum full of amazing artefacts from the RN. So much cool stuff to see, lovely gift shops and places to have a bite to eat.

This museum has an area dedicated to Nelson, and then rooms about different aspects of the Navy.

There's a whole load to see at this expansive attraction. The staff are very accommodating and the Mary Rose museum really lifts the exhibits, meanwhile HMS Warrior and Victory are genuinely wonders in themselves. Allow at least two to three days!

Another wonderful day out here. The full family experience tickets let you come back again and again throughout a whole.l calendar year. Still not managed to bore the children who keep on making us come back to see more and more.

Been here a few times, purchased an ultimate explorer, only to discover I could have visited for free. The Museum site is good, though I do feel the museum could be more informative as often feels like "History Lite" for people with no real interest. Victory finally having work done, as its a sorry sight at the moment. Warrior looking good, shame that the uniform display is modern uniforms with NATO stock number. Overall good museum.

The boat cafe, and Dock yard gate. Dock yard gte interesting walk though, needs attention to exhibits, arm missing, damaged items and rubbish, I counted 7 items rubbish on stands and settings. Floor needed a clean. Damage sets. We were there at 11.20 am so no one had checked or cleaned, lot of stands did not work electricity, lighting. Cafe everdently 11.50 am cant sell food till dead on 12, something thing to do with cant be arsed ?. Coffee staff has brain retention of a gold fish. Black coffee and a scone caused confusion. Twice I was asked if I wanted milk .butter was an option that I had asked for. And the price. No loss of profit there The rest of the museums were great, staff were helpful and engaging, and they did something to that boat house. Qr code. straightforward to Amazon offer link. Rather the questions. I would recommend the museum but not the boat house.

We bought a year ticket which then allowed us entry into all museums and the harbour tours plus most of the Exhibits in Dockyard, this also means you can come back if you miss any. I have to say if you want a Historic weekend go to Portsmouth specially for army and navy walk along the quays and you will see monuments to the fallen. The museums are very informative. They also have people in costume of the year,

How can you put on a display of the history of the royal navy in only a few rooms? It was clearly difficult but they have included plenty of interesting and detailed exhibits and it occupied is for an hour or so. There was some good interactive exhibits which were fun.

visited in 2016 for the Jutland exhibition. Magical. Got to touch the HMS Hood bell, for the naval history buff this is the holy grail.

Very nice museum, amazing dioramas and models

Most of the reviews here are for the wider Historic Dockyard including the HMS Victory, not the National Museum specifically, which I have to say was pretty disappointing for a £24 single ticket. Perhaps its more reasonable as part of a general all admission ticket, but the museum by itself is relatively small and a little outdated on the newer content, and certainly not worth a single admission. Also with so many impressive vessels moored nearby, it feels like the site is missing a trick not having a viewing deck?

Everything is well presented. . Quite a lot of seats around. And toilets. I've been three times and not seen it all. Parking is difficult.

Great place to visit far too much to do in one day so multiple visits required. Staff very knowledgeable and happy to chat to you about the area you are in. Food a bit pricey but to be expected and a good variety on offer. Loved the Victory ship audio tour very immersive and dramatic abd informative just takes a while to take it all in so allow plenty of time.

One half of the museum is given over Admiral Lord Nelson with large numbers of artefacts as well as a biopic of his life and a timeline depicting both his private life and military career. The other part gives a broad perspective of the Navy down the ages from sail right through to the modern day with a fashionable and current nod to the environment. Every genre of type of display is on show from missiles to bloody models depicting shore raids in the 1800's. The human touch is very much in evidence from various live testimonies and lists of casualties suffered again another sobering experience contained within the dockyard. Time well spent and I say it from a "Pongo" point of view although I'm not so sure of the Naval ratings "going out gear"

Very interesting history of the Royal Navy to modern day times and the Admiral Nelson exhibition. Just the right amount of information and exhibits so as to be easily absorbed and not overloaded. Spacious and easy to navigate. Nice little shop too with a good range of items.
