Great little place for lunch in downtown Lakeland. Diverse menu. Friendly service. Tasty food. Lunch only, M-Sat. Closed Sunday.

We had lunch at The Purple Onion today. I had the Cuban sandwich and my daughter has the chicken salad. She said it was the best chicken salad she's had. The service was great and the food was excellent. Most importantly, they could accommodate our food allergies. They made our gluten free sandwiches separate from the others and they have a dedicated GF fryer for the fries and tots. We will definitely be back.

Worst dining experience in the Munn park area. Our waitress rushed us through our order. The tomato bisque soup was cold, thick and obviously from a can. The sandwiches were sub par at best. Don't waste your money here. Go to Black and Brew or any other restaurant in the area.

The purple onion is hands down the best cafe the area has to offer. Today, I had the Italian melt with sausage tortaline soup. The soup was fantastic. I always get one potato ball. Not once has this place disappointed me. My husband wanted a bacon egg sandwich. Was it on the menu no, but did he get one YES. Great prices, Great food, great service. The only thing is short hours but, hey when your this good you can make your own hours.

After visiting the farmer’s market in Lakeland we stopped at the Purple Onion. The french onion soup was good with lots of delicious melted cheese ! I had the purple onion chicken club wrap and it was delicious! My companion got a side salad that was average but still good with the french onion soup! They were busy and short staffed but with all the employees working together it was a great experience! All the food came out timely and delicious! Will definitely go back!

The Purple Onion has been a staple in Lakeland for over 20 years. Their black bean and rice soup is incredible!

This place was delightful. The server was very friendly & knowledgeable. Husband said that was the best French onion soup he had tasted in a long while. Chicken salad was quite good. Can't wait to go back.

Popped over for a late lunch on a weekday afternoon. They weren’t busy and I was seated and served right away. Service was friendly and my soup & salad were served quickly. The grilled chicken on my salad was made to order, which is a nice touch. The lettuce blend was respectable, unlike most places which give you a bunch of iceberg and a couple pieces of romaine and call it “mixed greens”. Nope, this was quality. Overall, A convenient and economical place to have a great meal! Will certainly return.

Great place to grab a bite. My daughter had the Chicken tenders and loved them. She is truly a connoisseur of chicken tenders and won’t eat the just anywhere. Their French Dip is literally the beat I’ve had in Lakeland. Cute diner. Staff is friendly and fast. A little farther from the main downtown area but as downtown expands it gets a little closet. Well worth the walk and even if busy, well worth the wait.

I loved the food. Not only was it fresh, it was arranged beautifully and artistically. The waitress was cheerful and extremely successful handling the crowded room. The customers were all happy and friendly. This friendly atmosphere says a lot about a restaurant - the Purple Onion is a place where friends can meet, relax, enjoy good food, and leave their worries at the door. But, let's mention that door. It screeched every time it opened or closed. And even though I enjoyed the atmosphere, it's not a place to go with the intent to listen to your friend: it is loud! But loud in a good way. I understand you can order take out, and there were a few tables outside. It's in a beautiful part of downtown Lakeland. I'm putting it in my "return often" list.

My wife and I have eaten here several times over the past few months. I really like how the entire front is open ceilings. The place is always clean, prices are reasonable, and most importantly, the food is consistently good! We have never had a bad experience. The staff is super friendly and makes sure you are satisfied with everything from start to finish.

Came in town to visit inlaws, tried to find a little hole in the wall restaurant. This is it. Staff is amazing, food is amazing, atmosphere is amazing. My daughter can be picky with her food, she brought a piece of pizza in with her, the staff smiled and asked they could heat it up for her. Super friendly. Will absolutely be back !!

A friend and I discovered The Purple Onion following a historic home tour in a nearby neighborhood. What a great find! We had a bit of a hard time figuring out where to park due to the Saturday Farmer's Market street closure, but found a spot a block over. We arrived less that 30 minutes before closing time, but the owner was happy to see us and told us there was no rush at all. I had the patty melt on Cuban bread instead of marble rye with tater tots and unsweetened iced tea. Everything was fresh and delicious! The tea was fresh-brewed, which is a must for me! The owner is very friendly and shared some other points of interest we might like to see on a future visit. I will definitely visit this restaurant again!

First time there and the soup was really good. The Cuban sandwich was not on the traditional Cuban bread, but it was still pretty good. Price was reasonable. It was hard to find a parking space. Was very loud so conversation was difficult at times. I'd go back though.

A visiting family member has celiac’s disease so we were looking for local restaurants that could accommodate this food allergy. Their website mentions having a separate gluten-free fryer and many gluten-free alternatives for their meals and many google reviews mentioned the same thing. When we arrived, we were told they no longer have a separate fryer nor carry any gluten-free bread options. In fact, gluten-free options have not been available since 2020 but their website has not been updated. If you have a gluten intolerance, this is not a restaurant I would recommend.

We were at a college baseball game in Lakeland and searching the web for a restaurant nearby and found the purple onion. So very thankful that we did as the sandwiches were fabulous! If I am ever in the Lakeland area again, it will be the first place I will go to eat!

If you mix 🟥&🟦 You will ‘The Purple Onion Deli & Grill’. Located in Lakeland, Fl. This swank place has a very friendly, warm and welcoming atmosphere. Spoke with Sam, who was very informative and helpful.. I asked about what was happening on Kentucky Ave and he explained their is a farmers market on Saturday’s from 9-2. He added their is a young lady that makes a killer guacamole along the strip 😊. He assisted with my order until Ashley stepped in and completed it with smile through her mask. I choose the cornbeef w/Swiss on marble rye, with cole slaw and spicy mustard on the side. I will say, their brine did not make the meat overly salty as some can .. you taste the meat more than the brine. It was tender and a generous amount. I requested the mustard on the side, by preference and the coleslaw had the right amount of seasoning. The peanut butter cookie was moist and a nice treat. Thanks Ashley for remembering it and running to give it to me 😊 Will diffidently go back. Please Respect patrons parking and enjoy a pleasant walk.

Service was good, and the place was clean. Liked the rice and bean soup, too. The sad amount of meat on the turkey-bacon-Swiss sandwich (see photo) literally made me laugh, however. For 10.99, that’s not even remotely acceptable.

We looked for a non chain place for lunch and found The Purple Onion. So glad we did! We split a terrific tuna salad and some of the best French Onion soup we’ve had in years. Great job!

I can't believe I hadn't tried this before, and will definitely be back! I went for lunch with a friend on a Wednesday. The place was busy, but the servers were fast and efficient (though friendly). I had the soup and salad combo with a half Reuben and the French onion soup. Both were delicious! The soup had just the right amount of cheese melted over the crock. My friend had a salad that also looked delicious. The prices were also great, with both our meals being under $10.

Nice local restaurant with Deli themed menu. They have good choice of in house soups . I tried chicken Philly sandwich which was ok , few flavors were missing and sun was also very hard to chewy . However my office colleagues loved what they ordered so I think overall it is a good place to eat. Will try another time to explore their soups

👍👍 The atmosphere is awesome. High energy and plenty of visual items to take in. What's even better is the food. The "Estate" burger was one of the best burgers I've ever had. My Everything came very fast and hot. Well timed by the team!! My son especially loved the onion rings. Be carefull though,...
