Lovely museum to go to when in Plovdiv! Shows a lot of history from a more human point of view. Has a wonderful collection of beautiful displays and items!

Beautiful museum house that was used to show off the wealth of this businessman so that he could encourage more investors. This place is very unique and beautiful inside.

Great place to visit if you want to learn about history about Plovdiv and Bulgaria overall kids loved seeing how the gran gran dads lived. Shame there was no excursion available when we visited. Note, that most of museums are closed on Mondays Was also very interesting to see the difference of how the poor and rich lived The outside area is beautifully maintained, lots of shade and very peaceful For a family of 2 adults, one student and 3 kids we have paid only 17 lev, which is money well spent

It is a beautiful building with a very interesting plan of space inside, building itself is a piece of the museum and the museum has a nice presentation of historic Bulgarian clothing, home items, music instruments, and more.

Very interésting museum to learn about Plovdiv and Bulgarian history and about their customs and tradition. All the signs are both in English and Bulgarian and the house is impressive and well-preserved. Definitely a must if you visit Plovdiv. Tickets for students are very cheap, only 3 Leva so around 1.5€

A wonderful museum full of the history of regional life and the crafts and historical skills of the region. A large range of regional traditional costume plus the old tools, machines and equipment used for the production of metalwork, jewellery and textiles. We were fortunate to visit during a festival and craftsmanship market and cultural musical presentation.

Fantastic place for everyone who is interested in the culture and history of the Bulgarian people. The building itself is a gorgeous sample of the traditional architecture. I enjoyed the time spent there.

A very complete museum about the people of Bulgaria with a lot of art pieces and objects from the daily life of the locals. The only problem was the lights which made the pictures hard to take. The price of the tickets were very low and they had reductions for families and students. This is a must-see in this city and I greatly recommend visiting this amazing place.

A grand house built by a rich cloth merchant in the 1800s. One can see and experience how Bulgarians of varied wealth and means used to live 200 years ago.

The house itself is worth seeing and the courtyard is beautiful. It's definitely more photogenic from the outside than from the inside and the museum itself hardly deserves the 6 leva entrance fee. The whole thing was curated during the communist times and it shows, there are some mundane explanations in English, apparently contributed by National Geographic, but the museum is poor in both exhibits and explanation. There ia an extra fee if another 6 leva for pictures, trust me there is nothing worth taking a pic in this place

A beautifully built and decorated tradi house converted into a museum. Amazing spot for enthusiasts of history or anyone who wants to know more about the culture and history of the Bulgarians. The first floor provides an overview of the work and livelihoods of the olden days such as farming, cotton making, goldsmithing and more. The 2nd floor gives insights into the costumes and festivals of the community. Articles are well maintained and preserved. There is also a layer of construction found in the little corner. This is from the Ottoman period, consistent with many other buildings in the old town that are built over the construction frame left behind. After the visit, you can relax on the benches outside and listen to the music from the street performers. All in, a lovely place to spend an hour or 2. Tickets are BGN8 per adult. Very reasonable.

The biggest Etno museum in Bulgaria 🇧🇬. Located in the old town of Plovdiv. Beautiful building with so much history and soul. It speaks for itself. The front garden 🪴 is so tranquil and beautiful. Inside you find many artefacts and pieces of history. Perfect to spend an afternoon there and bring your kids for a historical visit. I recommend to visit

You can see local and old costumes, clothes, fabric and tools here. Outside the building is magnificent with a lovely garden and trees. Tickets prices are fair. It is difficult to go there because of walking up to a hill of the old town and the street is made by big rocks. Elder people or other with difficulties in walking maybe avoid it.

The place is good but the problem was the smell from old items. I couldnt stay more then 15 minutes, my nose went numb and I started sneeze unstopped.

For the price of 1€ for students and 3€ for normal adults, this is a must. Great exhibition without too much text and some interactive element. I would have paid one euro just to be in that house and have some quiet! It's beautiful. Around the exhibition itself: the receptionists were very kind and spoke fluent English and the garden in front is more like a beautiful little park than an entrance to a museum.

The exhibitions on Traditional Clothing and the symbolism behind them are fascinating. It is housed in a building which is beautiful inside and out, and the garden is particularly lovely.

  • 5/5 Raphaël T. 4 years ago on Google
A great place to learn more about life in the olden days in Bulgaria in general and in Plovdiv specifically. It's really worth to take a local guide in the museum to make the most of the visit, and it costs a mere 10 BGN (5 €). If you want to take photographs or film inside, you have to pay. The outside of the beautiful building and the garden with a very impressive tree are free to visit and to take pictures.

Its a small but very good example of Bulgarian history. Don't expect a full size museum but rather a few rooms with old items. Hence the ticket price is low.
