What an amazing natural science museum. They have quite a collection of taxidermy animals, birds, reptiles and fish. Even better is the aquarium with so many species of fish and the atmosphere in the place is great However, don't miss out on the butterfly enclosure. You get to walk around while beautifully colored butterflys flutter around you and if you are lucky, one might even land on you.

I recently visited the Museum of Natural Science in Plovdiv, and I must say it was a fantastic experience. The exhibitions were truly captivating, with the "Sea World" section standing out as a highlight. The attention to detail and the variety of marine life on display were impressive. What added an extra layer of fascination to my visit was the presence of a planetarium. It offered a mesmerizing journey through the cosmos, making the museum an educational and entertaining destination for all ages. If you're in Plovdiv and have an interest in the wonders of the natural world, this museum is a must-visit.

Don't get fooled: It Looks Like a small building, but with clever usage of space it provides a huge amount of exhibition items. It wasn't overrun with people during my visit. And I think the dinosaurs are the highlight, especially when you Go there with children. Maybe the only thing that might Not meet expectations IS the Museum Lack of interactive things. I know this from other similar places and that might be a bit boring. Admission fee is with 8 BGN pretty fair. If you visit Plovdiv be Sure to Check it out.

Coolest and Greatest Museum of Natural History in BG, maybe! Especially, couse there are more newer collections and exhibits than Museum of Natural History in Sofia! And also - couse there is one of the greatest planetariums! And last but not least - here You can see the closest to Natural habitat Rain forest Room - created for Butterflies! A place You should definitely visit!

(Translated by Google) I am extremely pleased that I was able to visit the natural history museum! I visited the museum with an organized group. The expositions are interesting even for the youngest visitors. Each hall of the museum is divided into different categories: marine life, wild animals, stones, and the most interesting are the dinosaurs. Each of the halls has music that is different for each hall according to their theme. You feel as if you are passing from one world to another, an extremely pleasant experience! There are artificial exhibits as well as live ones. We didn't expect to see real animals, but when we went downstairs we were surprised with fish, sharks and reptiles. I recommend visiting it.

Ok where do I start.I will start with the museum itself is very informative and full of animals and rocks of all kinds. You will learn a lot here. No for what I didn't like. They live animals and in very confined spaces for their sizes. The crocodile....I nearly cried ....some of the snakes ...felt so sorry for them.I was so excited walking around the museum until I saw the live animals...please increase their living spaces .... otherwise a great place to visit.

A must to visit spot! Vast and very well maintained exhibition of preserved animals including a 30ft anaconda which is one of the longest in Europe. The beehive with alive bees is very interesting. The aquarium is astonishing - small sharks, manta rays, arapaima, piranhas, a couple of ocean aquariums and lot more. Excellent reptile and insect exhibitions. The planetarium can throw you in between the stars while the topic room sends you in the jungle with alive butterflies flying around you. Highly recommended!

Amazing place. A must see in Plovdiv. And the most wonderful part of it - the butterfly habitat. The feeling of a butterfly flying close to your face is unbelievable. Such grace, such beauty... And the guide is an amazing young man, with vast amount of knowledge and a great sense of humor. Thanks for the joy.

(Translated by Google) The exposition of the museum is interesting, although I am not a fan of stuffed animals and I would prefer to see a more modern approach to showing them. The staff at the museum are kind and responsive and the museum has some very interesting events. My main remark is that there is no air conditioning. The museum is very popular and at the moment when there is even a class with children in the building, you literally can't breathe there. The sculpture of the Apollo astronaut costume is wonderful!

The museum houses an aquarium with saltwater and freshwater fish, rays, sharks, corals, molluscs, jellyfish, crustaceans Terrarium with different species of turtle lizards, live crocodile and caiman. Toxic arrow frogs, tarantulas. Living Butterfly Hall, which is an extra charge and comes in every 30 minutes, but it's worth it. Another a must see while in Plovdiv. Visited today with no booking in advance, tickets off the counter. Polite staff. The place it self it not massive but still interesting enough. Had lots of fun looking at different species expecially the largest bear on balcan peninsula and the largest taxidermied snake in Europe. A proud moment as bulgarian.

The taxidermied animal exhibit and everything like that is nice, but the live reptiles and some of the bigger fish are living in sub-optimal to outright abysmal conditions. A reef shark that can only swim in circles in one direction in a circular tank, a lot of the reptiles are in way too small enclosures, rainforest animals that are kept on dry desert sand, caiman has only a very shallow water area, turtles without a land area, tortoises with malformed beaks, etcetera. If you care about animal wellbeing, don't visit this place, it was just sad to see. If they stuck to only dead stuff, it would've been nice and left me with a better feeling.

  • 5/5 Desislava S. 1 year ago on Google
(Translated by Google) Despite the small area, there is a rich collection with many animal species, presented in an interesting way - the snakes, amphibians, fish are in caves representing something like caves with connecting openings/doors/ between them. There are both stuffed and live specimens of certain species. The children are impressed and look at all the exhibits with curiosity. The only thing I had difficulty explaining to my young son was the head with part of the neck of a giraffe displayed in a display case - it is clear that there is not enough space for a full-length giraffe, but it is logically positioned like that - where is the body of the animal ...I improvised with the answer that the body was downstairs...but it would be nice to come up with something more acceptable.

(Translated by Google) A place where you can take your children to introduce the history and present of animal species and show them rare stones and crystals. This can lead to an addictive interest in the natural sciences. For some time now, Sam has also had a planetarium, which further grabs the little discoverers and educates parents who want to be at their level. One of the best museums in Bulgaria and they keep upgrading it with new sections and new animals as well as temporary exhibitions so there's always a reason to visit again. There is a lot to explore from birds and mammals taxidermy to live fish and reptiles as well as a butterflies a stone and fossil collection, a section on germs and even a planetarium (some features require an extra ticket). It's just great!

I guess it is fine if you want to show your children some variety of nature in the upstairs museum collection, but there are live fish (including small shark!) are held in far too small tanks in the basement. It’s animal abuse in my opinion.

Second review pls read it and see pictures. I've already write this review whit a pictures to prove what I've said. The alive animals are in bad conditions especially the crocodile is in a small space, incapable to turn or move because the place where they put him is a small acquarium (?), totally in plastic, the water is a small amount and he has to stay there in front of people whitout any possibility to hide or go somewherelse. My 6 year old ask my "why mum the crocodile is in this small place?" he, can't move here, mum! If this is pretty clear to a kids, maybe you should start asking yourself some question too. That's is Unacceptable for a creature. Also snakes are in a small glass cages. When I saw all this, I ran outside whit my kids, almost crying. Pls take care of this creature you are a Museum to give people good culture in everyway icluding animals welfare!!!

We took our three children (4, 6 and 8) here for a morning and were really happy with everything. We paid the extra to see the live butterfly display which was quite good, but the best exhibits were the live reptiles and aquariums. The staff were all friendly and helpful and the information was presented in Bulgarian and English. Touch-screen computers were informative and kept the kids interested. If we'd had the time, we would have come back for the planetarium presentation. All in all, an excellent museum and a top morning out.

A lot of nice stuffed animals, plants and minerals. However some of the living animals, like the boa constrictor, the anaconda and the alligators had too small living conditions and not enough water to move in. Some large fish were also in too little aquariums.

  • 2/5 Lars R. 3 years ago on Google
Lots of nice minerals and stuffed mammels and insects! Most of the fish downstairs are nicely kept and taken care of. However, some reptiles and fish are neglected and look sick. The enclosement of the alligator downstairs isn't even big enough to fit him. Keeping one ferret alone isn't good practice and the enclosements of the boa constrictors are just sad. A history museum should be about the history of the animals. If i wanted to see live animals, i'd go to the zoo, where the animals are better taken care of.

I love the taxidermy, botany, entomology, geology and dinosaur exhibits. I’m typically a big fan of aquariums too but it’s a little disappointing that there were live animals in the same museum with limited space in the tanks. I’m not sure about the welfare of these animals but personally I wouldn’t enjoy being in a enclosed area with an artificially made habitat every day of my life for the viewing pleasure of others either. It was especially difficult to look at the live crocodile exhibit. I hope better could be done for these animals :-(
