👍 Delicious food but as usual difficult to eat. I personally have no problem eating with my hands but still I think with the bread it is a bit too difficult especially when it comes to small pieces and to the liquid parts. Nevertheless I do recommend this place. I was happy with the food and would try... People often mention African, good, delicious, atmosphere, restaurant,

I highly recommend this place for some exotic African cuisine. The interior is beautiful and the food is delicious.

East-African fare, decently done: so hands-on eating with little pancakes. Good vegan options. Eritrean and Ethiopian beers, some cocktails. What I liked most though was the laid-back, almost soothing atmosphere. Service was alert enough, just a cozy, relaxed vibe, brought on by bright yet subdued colors and easygoing African music at the right volume.

We were at Viva Afrika last weekend. We had a table reserved via their website, but generally, many tables for two people were available. We shared the vegetarian platter, which was amazing and frankly a bargain given what you can pay in some restaurants. The Restaurant is very nicely decorated and conveniently located, close to a Metro stop and the Depot / the Kunsthal. Only (very slight downside) to our visit was that we sometimes waited quite a bit, e.g., for getting a menu to order desserts. But it was definitely worth it, so I would highly recommend the restaurant!

We had some Africans beers and the taste and flavor wasn’t very present, kind of lager beer. The food, a plate combining different meals, was something special, a bit spicy and the flavors not too present, overall the taste was somehow in the same direction. The wine, a Merlot from South Africa, was good. The restaurant setup was nice full of colors.

Average food, no special flavor. Little value for money. In a word, almost disappointingly. Only the wine was ok (a Merlot). Something to try once, but I wouldn’t go back again

The food was great, a lot of vegan options. The staff was friendly and the prices were fine too. However we waited quite a bit. And whilst it was loud, it still felt very welcoming and familiar

Beautifully presented and tasty Ethiopian food. Vegan friendly and the for two can easily feed 3. The spinach, tomato purée and lentils were gorgeous. Staff was happy to have us there.

Viva Afrika offers a wide selection of dishes from Africa, it has a casual and colorful atmosphere and good service. We stopped by for a chill dinner for 2; tried the jollof rice and pagasisus dish (assa-kelwa), both were quite flavorful, except for the side salads which were dull and unseasoned. Assa kelwa is served with the enjera bread, a sour flatbread, that resembles a pancake and it's nice if you're into sour tastes, I personally love it. For dessert, we had the tjakrie and baked bananas, and I think the tjakrie was the highlight of the night for me. It was delicious and not too sweet, like a "down to earth" rice pudding. In general, they have decent portions, and the food is good value in general. We were satisfied with the service, our food arrived quickly and the staff was helpful. I skipped the beers and went for a wine, and I was pleasantly surprised by it, they have a decent selection of wines from both South Africa and France. But do try out their specialty African beers if you haven't had them before. Would recommend if you want to try out African cuisine in Rotterdam.

Decoration and atmosphere are all in! Food eaten with your hands is a fun experience. And wow. The food. Just wow, so tasty! 🤩

With Ethiopian being my favorite food, I was intent on finding a good restaurant after moving here to Rotterdam. Viva Afrika was absolutely delicious! Only criticism is the Kitfo was cooked, and not rare as usual (this could’ve been a result of language barrier… or maybe an assumption) regardless, I can’t wait to go back again :)

Highly recommended! The walls inside are so pretty, the vibe was just amazing! I think it's a family business, where you would see a small girl is also helping, how cute! They really wanted customers to experience their culture so most of the dishes are served without cutlery, but they would be more than happy to provide you folks/spoons/knives on request.

Nice place. The decoration together with the music created a good atmosphere. The food was really nice and I enjoyed having vegetarian options.

Very surprising. My first time eating real African food and I loved it. We took the big two person platter with a variety of dishes, including fish, beef, chicken, lentils and pumpkin, all of which had a unique delicious flavour. As a starter we had the bamba saté, which is crocodile meat, very nice but sadly not a lot for the price. They also have some fun local and even African beers! The atmosphere was great and the staff is super friendly. Recommended to anyone who is not afraid to eat food with their hands. (by using flatbread as your cutlery)

I was very sceptical to this restaurant, because I had never eaten in a African restaurant before. But the food was absolutely amazing! So, so, sooo good!! You have to try this! The white fish was so good!

Great place and atmosphere. Service was great and attentive. We all four had a great dinner. When they say the food is spicy, and you eat spicy like me, you can ask for their extra spice powder to enhance your experience. This really made me enjoy my meal.
