Second visit was disappointing. Exhibition over History of Gelderland was chauvinistic and polarising. Not a good look in these divisive times. By entry, scanner did not register my Museumkaart the 1st time.Gentleman at the counter informed me it had expired, and at first wanted to keep it. By the second try, it did work. Afterwards, eating a cake in the cafe, I bit down hard on what proved to be a sizable piece of a walnut shell. Fortunately, I did not break a tooth, and it did not go down my throat. I showed it to the lady behind the counter, but all she said was that normally, it was a good baker, and she would pass it on. NO apology. At that moment, the same fellow from the front desk passed by, looked at the shell, and said, "Well, now we know it was really fresh." I kept silent. The contrast between our 1st visit and 2nd couldn't have been greater. I will not return.

Lots of information about the history of Harderwijk. Beautiful authentic building. There is an exhibition by the photographer Daniëlle van Zadelhoff until May 2024. Unfortunately, Google does not allow some (nude) photos of her to be published. This museum can be visited in combination with the Marius van Dokkum museum.

Beautiful museum, especially for the photo exhibition of Daniëlle Zadelhoff. Beautiful photos! Everything in the museum was displayed with care and attention, very clearly arranged. Well worth a visit.

Where in the past some city museums may have been a bit dusty... (with a diorama and some shards in a display case). City Museum is a hip place! With a welcome film that you must see! For young and old (and now also with Easter eggs on the tables in the modern café overlooking the garden.

Enjoyable but very claustrophobic. Shame landscapes, only one is shown.

Visit starts with a well made but a little over the top video about the building, then leads into the interactive bar which is honestly quite creepy and overdone.. First floor follows the interactive concept but more muted down, actually pretty fun and engaging. Attic is more classic history museum style, really wish there was more focus on the older history of the city and more local and relevant art. Some temporary modern art exhibitions which were okay. Garden, shop and cafe looking great!

... nice museum in historical rooms and a nice museum cafe. The Van Dokkum Museum is within walking distance and the option to purchase a combined ticket for both museums...

Small museum with nice temporary exhibitions, beautifully arranged, a couple of Marius van Dokkum, an artist that you should know. The town itself is way more beautiful than I expected.

Quite a lot to be discovered here, beyond history also art, culture, and exhibitions. The temporary exhibition during my visit was on the regional clothing styles, and it's in tremendous detail. Quite interesting how textiles and patterns told a tale of one's background, martial status, but also for instance phase of mourning after a loved one's passing. If you'd like to know more about the fishing history of the city, there's a lot to be discovered in the attic: Harderwijk used to be adjacent the sea, which is an incredible story on its own.

Nice museum with interesting pictures, but it’s a pity that because of the corona virus, a part of the museum is closed.

Small museum, only 45 min or an hour is enough. Stuff were kind, Delicious coffee. You can use cabinets free and you will see a good demonstration of the history of the city Harderwijk 😊
