Your opinion on what constitutes a museum exhibit on “civilization” will differ from mine. However, to me, the exhibits were more “popular cultural” and “progressive arts” than “civilization”. To me, the only interesting thing here about “civilization” was the boat you see for free when you enter for free. Beyond that it was an over priced experience I found to be exhibiting the history of local rap music, the rise of transgender culture, and some facts about the climate change crisis. It was nearly empty on the Friday before Christmas. I’d say stay away except for the boat. Stop in and take a photo of it for free and then leave. I’d give this place zero stars if I could.

There is a nice exhibit about the First People of Quebec. There is an exhibit about gender and one about climate change. This is 33% museum and 66% something else. 1% is for the lobby and coat room. Expensive for the experience. I thought they needed to have bilingual signs throughout Canada but they were sparse here.

Super fun and affordable museum! No student discounts but by age. 15 CAD for 25-34 years old. They had a poop history/display that was fun, gross, educational, and fascinating! Worth the time for it. They also have lots of other exhibits, some are more hands on than others. Did it in about 2 hrs but missed a section.

My husband and I visited this museum on our recent trip to Quebec City. It’s an easy visit (not too large) with interesting exhibits to go through. The My 2000 Year Old Double was especially good. I also loved the exhibit on the native people who lived in the region as well as the beautiful old dresses that were on display. So quite a wide variety and something for everyone to enjoy. Definitely worth your time to go to when in Quebec City.

Racism everywhere. I was just sitting in the lobby without my sandals ON. The security guard was suggesting me to sit straight and put my sandals. There is a white lady sitting next to me is doing the same but the guard didn’t have a problem. At one point during the visit, the guard was only checking brown guys ticket. Why do we face discrimination every time in Quebec. This must stop!!!

Great museum! History of the Quebec and First Nations halls. We really liked the “experimental” exhibition about the poop. 😃 Smth we never saw before. We also liked the museum cafe. Usually such cafes don’t have good variety. However, this one had lots of healthy options for lunch (like soup and salads). Delicious desserts. The museum also has small playground in the basement and robotic workshop.

We learned so much and the layout and guided tour was wonderful. Great for families or just by yourself. Very clean and being from the USA and not speaking much French everyone was bilingual and very nice. Such great history here and beautiful architecture. The food is INCREDIBLE!

Ah, the Museum of Civilizations, the perfect place to go if you've ever wondered what it's like to be spoon-fed politics disguised as exhibits. But fear not, dear museum-goers, for there's a hidden gem in this sea of political posturing: an exhibit on the Inuit people. It's almost as if someone remembered that museums are supposed to educate and inspire, not preach and persuade. This lone exhibit stands tall amidst a landscape of thinly veiled narratives, offering a well-executed glimpse into a fascinating culture. All in all, the Museum of Civilizations is the perfect destination for those who like their history served with a generous side of bias. Enjoy your visit!

If I could give it zero I would. $50 for two people to see boxes of crackers I could buy at a grocery store down the street. The exhibit was about sustainability, so they showed us a bag of wheat and a box of crackers behind glass. Then some empty wine bottles, a shirt made of cotton, and a vending machine inside a wall. How can a museum call that an exhibit? And how can they have the gall to charge me to see it. There was literally nothing of interest in the entire place. Waste of time and I feel like they stole my money. Don't be fooled by previous reviews, they've changed it and removed most of the history, in favour of 3 massive exhibits on sustainability, love me gender (about gender inclusion) and climate change. Nothing historical, or interesting in any way.

There was only one exhibit my son enjoyed. He was also interested in the activities in the lab downstairs, the staff explained all the stations but he needed someone to show him the activities for the first few minutes. We did not stay long.

This is a museum about culture and humanity's interaction with the Earth. You will learn new insights about different cultures, and even if you belong to one of the cultures currently on display at the museum you may still learn something new. You will see bigotry in the reviews because of various degrees of disrespect towards other people and cultures and a lack of understanding of how we humans impact our home. Learning about people different than you and concepts you may not agree with is not being "woke", it is reality. Face it and don't cower away with a flurry of disregarding statements. Also, yes, there is an explicit exhibit and there is a warning outside, so if you don't want your kids in an explicit exhibit don't let them go in. Another thing is that there are more than two exhibits at this museum, which from reading the reviews some people seem to believe. Look at the maps and you'll be able to find the others, though be prepared for lots of stairs and walking.

My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our visit at the museum. When we visited in June, they had a variety of exhibitions, ranging from one on the Maya civilization to one on homelessness in Quebec and in Canada. We both thought it was a great idea to raise awareness about such an incredibly important issue, especially now, as the pandemic has disproportionately exacerbated its extent. Definitely do pay them a visit, apart from being a great museum, they seem to have a thoughtful mission.

A great museum that has lots of different exhibits. I like that it's not all one category. Some exhibits are interactive and great for kids. Others focus on art or history in a more traditional way. It was fun and a good place to visit for all ages.

Went there it was great including reception. Although its quebec but being a tourist attraction i guess it should hold English writting of histrionic symbolics will be great. There were options of scanning QR code but not everyone is tech person. So i guess english written board should be there too in every of their departments. Other than that its great.

Went here while we were touring around Quebec City, was really enlightening into the culture and background of the area. They didn't only focus on the area though, there were multiple exhibits which were super interactive and entertaining to learn more about. My personal favorite was the movement exhibit which showed the powers of motion capture with free expression of dance and movement. The line wasn't too bad, the ticket machines were having issues so we ended up having to go to purchase them at the desk instead. As an English speaker with very limited French, I can confirm that the staff here is well versed in both dialects for any questions you may have. Overall a really enjoyable place for a trip during the day if you're interested in history and creative exhibitions.

Absolutely nothing on civilizations, nothing on the history of Quebec, just nonsense on trendy topics like "bi-psychology" and "non-binarism". A half floor tries to situate autochtones in the history but starts in the 1700's and focuses on how people are offended calling them indians, again 0 explanation on their history or how Quebec came into existence

The Museum of Civilization is an interesting place to spend time. In addition to information about the history of Quebec City, I really enjoyed the well-curated exhibition on Pompeii. The interactive O Merde exhibition really was thought provoking and cleverly thought out.

I hate saying this because I love museums, but I was not impressed with this place. I don't know who designs the exhibits, but they were not put together well. They don't flow well and they don't do a good job of telling a story. There weren't many artifacts or interesting objects to see. The exhibit about Native Peoples was interesting and informative. I think the exhibit about the color green was there to fill space. It was just a large display case with green objects that I'm assuming were in the depths of the museum's collection. I will not be coming here again. I would expect a city such as Quebec City to have a world class museum. This is not it.

11 dollars to get in, this place is incredible. We spent 4 hours in here looking at all the exhibits. Such a variety of historic, current and just plain interesting. I had a fantastic time here, it was well laid out and easy to stop and see all the exhibits. Even all the areas with lots of writing were easy to explore without missing much if you didn't read every tidbit. There was two paid exhibits this time which, in the price of the ticket, was an awesome deal and worth it. They may have been my favorite parts in the whole museum. The gift shop is also quaint and has quite a few special things there that are great for the price. The whole place has a nice feeling to it and is worth the time and money to stop and spend some time there. If you plan to look at everything carefully, I'd advise at least 3 or so hours for it all!

I have visited many great museums around the world many of which have accurately preserved and presented history for all to reflect upon warts and all. This museum seems more like a political statement for the present. The best lessons for the future come from not repeating the mistakes of the past. I don't think this museum is helping in this regard.

Very cool exhibits. We went because it said there were some kid friendly things to do, which there were. The restaurant was a tad pricy and they took a while to serve. I would bring my own lunch and eat in the basement level. Cost per adult was about $24, kids under 6 are free.

Excellent family museum with the current exhibits geared towards kids. The basement area was especially appreciated by my 3.5 year old. They added a makeshift area for breastfeeding which is very helpful for those with small babies. Comfy chairs to sit on and a change table. Great rainy day activity. Price was good, especially if you have a membership at another museum with a reciprocal agreement.

It’s probably not worth the time or money if you have other options because it’s very very small. They did have a couple of temporary exhibits, each as big as the permanent one. That should give you an idea about the size of the permanent exhibit. SPAQ parking nearby was full by 11:30am on Saturday. Indigo parking might have space, not sure.

Wow. I’ve visited hundreds of museums all over the continent, and this was by far the worst I have ever seen. I saw nothing of interest. Maybe if you are interested in seeing a room full of silicone male and female sex organs then you might find this a worthwhile stop. Otherwise skip it.

I was not particularly dazzled by their collections and I felt many of the descriptions were worded vaguely. They often left me with more questions than answers. It is a nicely curated building, and the facilities were well appointed and taken care of. I also thought the history of Quebec exhibit coloured the past a certain way (as in, it scrubbed out our more shameful moments in history).

Lovely museum with thoughtful exhibits and beautiful architecture. We purchased our tickets online and didn't realize that we needed to print our stickers upon arrival - the location to do so did not feel intuitive. We spent most of our time in the "C'est notre histoire" exhibit featuring aboriginal history from Québec and across Canada. Having learned about Anishinaabe migration stories from Northern Michigan and Minnesota, and recently read "A Council of Dolls" - historical fiction about North American Indian schools designed to strip indigenous children's culture and language from them - the stories, videos, and artifacts felt all the more poignant and resonated with this Minnesotan visitor. Highly recommend a visit.

Guided tour of Place Royale - wonderful. 10/10 Guided tour of This is Our Story - lots of historical information, but the current situation regarding reconciliation and reparations was virtually left in the dust. 8/10 Facility is impeccably clean, staff are helpful and knowledgeable, and the exhibits are very nicely laid out.

There were a few interesting exhibits. Definitely worth visiting but this was not like a traditional museum with hanging art. I would describe it like a collection of 5-6 informational and slightly interactive exhibits. If you're not one of the "read everything on the plaque" kind of museum goer, this might not be the place for you.

(Translated by Google) 4.8 / 5 I recommend a guided tour of part of the city with Mathilde (I can no longer remember her name by heart). It's free and it's more serious than some city guides who pick up, mix, and gargle information like covid-19 conspirators. Notions are even seen in some of my university courses. So, you can be sure that there has been good research by the guide in the past on history, architecture and historical demography. For exhibitions I prefer this museum to that of fine arts, because all exhibitions are included in the price and the subjects during my stay interested me more.

I only came here because some say it's a museum for kids and I need to find a indoor place in the winter time for kids to enjoy. However only part of it is really kids friendly. The first level and half of second level is your regular civilization museum stuffs that would be rather boring for young kids. Only half of second level have some fun exhibit for young kids to enjoy (adults as well). The basement level has a really small playground for kids that doesn't have much things, but my kids enjoyed it nonetheless. Overall with the limited amount of kids contents presented my kids (2 and 4) still enjoyed their time here. Spent about 2 hours in total.

We spent several hours at the museum. The exhibit on Pompeii was excellent! There were several other exhibits that were also very well done. So glad we went.

One of the best Museums to go to! There’s something for everyone (kids included!) and the variety is awesome! I go at least twice a year!

It was a wonderful outing and I could arrange the use of a wheelchair for my friend. Everything accessible, everyone wore masks until we were seated for a light lunch. Delicious veggie sandwich. Enjoyed the Mayan exhibit, so interesting and informative. Spent so much time there so we'll have to go back for another visit to see all the exhibits. Lovely things in the souvenir shop. A beautiful day , excellent service and guides.

(Translated by Google) Very interesting, I love going to museums because I can learn more about a lot of the little things in life but this one in particular also allows me to have fun. Very advisable for children. They have a great costume room (unfortunately closed during the covid) and a lab (MLab) where they can learn more about robotics and electronics.

We visited recently and liked our experience! The place is filled with interesting exhibits especially the ‘Oh merde’ exhibit which really caught our interest! Ticketing is done online which makes it hassle-free when you get to the place.

(Translated by Google) A little disappointed, if I compare my visit to another museum of civilization. The staff were perfect. But, apart from the digital exhibition, I did not appreciate the other exhibitions during my visit. (Original) Un peu déçu, si je compare ma visite à d'autre musée de la civilisation. Le personnel a été parfait. Mais, mis à part l'expo sur le numérique, j'ai peu apprécié les autres expo lors de ma visite.
