The Funiculaire is a great alternative than going up and down a ton of stairs due to the massive incline. Keep in mind when we went in March the elevator was not working, so I did have to manage some stairs to even get to the Funiculaire. There are stairs to manage getting in and out of the entry point. It's also worth noting that the Funiculaire was closed for an hour and half over lunch which we weren't expecting, so you may want to factor this in if you have other stuff planned. It was freezing when we went, but we managed to find a small pub beside the Funiculaire which was open to have a drink and pizza while we waited to get back up the hill. When you're on the Funoculaire the view is incredible! As we went during March, there were no line ups. I suspect there would be huge lines in the summer so prepare for that. It's $4.00 Canadian for a one way ride and there's souvenir shops on either end with diverse range of items you can buy.

Cash payment applies here. They do not accept card payment. In addition, I think it's a bit too expensive, 5 Canadian dollars for a barely 3-minute ride (one way).

This funicular brings you up the step hills from the petit Champlain to the Dufferin Terrace. It is a very short ride for the 5 CAD you paid. But you do get a unique view while you are in it.

Definitely worth the $5 to go up after a day of walking, the line moved fast and the view is gorgeous!

Practical to go up a down especially if you're with elderly. However, for such a short ride, 5 CADs each way per person seems too expensive. Why not offer free rides for tourists staying at Québec, for example (we stayed at the Château Frontenac), as other places, like in Germany (where you receive a card for free buses and other means of transportation in many cities) do? It would be a way to welcome tourists. And why just in cash? Contactless credit/debit card would be much easier, especially for tourists who don't always carry a lot of foreigner cash. It also makes you wonder if they report all the money they receive to taxes... Also, why the need to have a gift shop at each end, when you're already surrounded by gift shops??? At least it ran well and it was clean.

As the funicular ascended, I couldn't help but marvel at the panoramic views that unfolded before me. Through the large windows, I could see the picturesque streets of the Lower Town slowly becoming smaller, while the majestic Château Frontenac and the St. Lawrence River came into view. The experience was truly awe-inspiring, as I felt like I was floating above the city. The cost of the funicular ride is $5 per person (cash only), which is a reasonable price considering the convenience and the spectacular views it offers. It's important to note that children under a certain age may ride for free or at a reduced fare, making it a family-friendly option.

As we wanted to travel from the Upper town to the Lower town, it made sense to take the funicular and reach the area in 1 minute while taking in the gorgeous views near us. Descending, we were fortunate to be the only one in our car, but returning there were 4 other people with us in the small space. There is glass all around to check the views and while you cannot miss it in the Lower town, right near a souvenir shop, in the Upper town the entrance is in this glass small location right near the statue. 5 CAD per person one way, it is way faster than taking the 'breakneck stairs' - good luck with that, especially if you do not have the right shoes.

Very reasonable price, fast service. Was perfect for us at the end of a long day of walking to avoid going up that steep hill yet again! Make sure that you have cash as they may not take electronic payment as was the case when we visited. At that time the price was $5 each CND.

While exploring Quebec City, going up/down Funiculaire is apart of the experience! Saves time for the walk, but also allows you to take in the beautiful river and sights that the city has to offer! Make sure you bring cash for the tickets, they do not accept credit cards.

It takes you from Lower old Quebec to upper- it's $4 one way & they take cash only. The ride is very short but the views are beautiful. On the upper level you are let out at Dufferin Terrace. You can either take it back down or do the stairs or walk the hill.

This is fun and only $4! Make sure you have cash 💰 to pay, but there is an ATM in if you need to use one. Highly recommended to come up to Chateau Frontenac from Le Petit Champlain quartier at the bottom :) Great views and great ways to save your legs in the stairs!

A fun, exciting, and easy way of going from the upper town to the lower town and back! Definitely recommend although taking the stairs can be fun too. There is little to no wait time and the tickets are $4 only.

The Funiculaire is much better than the stairs specially over the winter. And you shouldn’t miss that view! It’s beyond incredible! It's $4.00 Canadian for a one way ride, and there was no line in winter. I have no clue if there would be in summer but I believe there would be.

$5 tram ride that takes you from the bottom of Old Quebec up to the boardwalk area of the Chateau Frontenac hotel (or vice versa). Worth the money, especially on the journey up. Entire ride only lasts for less than a minute. The store is not that obvious, it blends in with the rest of the shops. They should make it stand out more.

Fun. Short. Make sure you don’t have toddler distractions or your gonna miss everything 😂. Good to pay if too tired to walk back up… but usually a lineup.

I came to add my review and unpleasant experience with the attendant at the top of the ride. I then found many of the same reviews. It's unfortunate that this man is still working here give the many unpleasant experiences many seem to have had. He was very rude condescending and mean when speaking to us. I ask the management to really review the consistency of these experiences and serious consider if this person is fit to deal with the public. The excursion itself is wonderful and great time saver however this individual is severely dampening this service

It was clean, with wonderful and panoramic views of the city. There was no wait time and also the staff was friendly. We paid $5 per person per ride, and it took 55 seconds to reach out the top

It’s a cute attraction to check out when in Quebec City but it’s not that amazing. I would still recommend you to check it out once as a one way ticket costs only $3. Keep your cameras ready if you want to click pictures of the view as it is just a 2 minutes ride.

It's not every day that you get to ride a funicular. It costs 4 Canadian dollars and there is an ATM, along with a place to get souvenirs and bottles of water, at the bottom of the slope. It's not dissimilar to riding in a glass elevator. Good views of the beautiful city!

It is not every day you get to see one of these and even ride one. One of the last of its kind, it takes you from the bottom of Quartier Petit Champlain to the upper boardwalk and Chateau Frontenac. You can take the stairs - however this is much nicer, especially in the winter. The place was packed during the weekend, everybody was cramming to get on and the views we got were spectacular as we climbed up. It is four dollars per person, one way (up or down). Anybody under 117 centimetres ride free of charge. My main complaints are with the customer service. The girl and the man working at the bottom of the Funiculair (Quartier Petit Champlain side) were very nice and helpful. The old guy at the top (Boardwalk/Dufferin Terrace side) was a different story. He was restless and annoyed, rude to anybody who was trying to pay or get on the Funiculair. I even heard him curse under his breath while some people were trying to get on. Overall it is a fun experience! If you can and want to go, you should. Just maybe avoid the wise guy working at the top (or the bottom! maybe they switch 😀)

We walked down to lower portion of old Quebec and took the lift back up. This saves a great deal of time and is also very useful for those with mobility challenges. Fee was $3.75 and the views were very good.

Great experience, the views are super nice and gets you to the lower village fast and easy, a little bit expensive 🫰 but worthy.

See the St. Lawrence River and Lower Town from an interesting vantage point as you travel up the cliff face at a 45-degree angle

How much is not walking up a million stairs worth to you? For me, it was 5$. If it’s nice, you get a sweet view. If it’s not, at least you’re out of the rain.

Could’ve gone on this a 1000 times. Very clean, well maintained and great views of the city. The wait time was minimal, so you can just hop on whenever you want. The staff operating the Funicular were always welcoming and happy, what a great addition to making my trip even better! Cheers!

Nice, quick, short ride to the top. 5 CAD. Only cash payment.

  • 4/5 Angie Fisher W. 8 months ago on Google
Super nice not having to walk the stairs. This is a cash only lift, so bring some bills ($5 per ride per person). Accessibility note for those with mobility issues: There are still stairs involved in getting into and out of the Funicular. There is a lift for those in wheelchairs, but no one else. Can create issues for those using canes, walkers, etc.

Great way to go between the promenade and old town. Cost is $4 which could add up quickly for a large family.

This is an beautiful ride in something with primitive and simple technology. Knowledge of French is useful but not mandatory. The guides are either French or pretend to be and we just go along to keep them happy. I do suspect some of them can understand if not speak English. But I guess it’s Ll about keeping appearances.

Such a Beautiful place, we went in December 2022 and was super COLD. we lost our hotel because that day that we came was a storm coming and they were predicting a lot of snow . so we just spend a couple hours and we came back to Montreal

It’s a fun transportation method. Quite expensive for a 30s linear ride (more expensive than a bus ticket!). It’s nice to try at least once and the views are beautiful! If you’re tired of walking, lazy or unable to cover long distances with lots of ups and downs + stairs then le funiculaire is very accommodating even though there’s a still a step when you come out so I am not sure how wheelchair friendly it is, but it can make things a little bit easier. If I remember correctly, I think tickets were cash only.

This is some experience, it's going straight up or down. 3 to 4 minutes and it's over. Will save you walking a hill of agony and time. It's Can$ 3.75, but we used it probably a dozen of times in 7days.

If your in Canada, make sure to stop in Quebec. Since my girl friend and I went during our Winter break, the scenery was very beautiful with all the snow on the ground and buildings. I highly recommend stopping by.

The funiculaire is a real time-saver and also a big benefit for anyone physically challenged. Getting from the lower town to the upper town otherwise requires a significant amount of walking up stairs and steep cobblestone streets. It's also a historic piece of Old Quebec and part of the charm. I was still surprised that a ticket for the 30 second ride up the hill was 3.75CAD. Again, this is something you should consider on your visit, but it's definitely priced for tourists.

Saves you time if you parked up top and walked all the way down to the pier. Price is fairly cheap.

A safe way to climb to higher ground and have a beautiful city view from Quebec City and the Chateau Frontenac Fairmont hotel.

Short ride @$3.75 per person but quite useful for seniors and differently able people to traverse between upper and lower towns of old city in Quebec! View as you ride is awesome!
