We stayed in a private room. It was no-frills (obviously, since it is a hostel), with no TV and a very basic bed. But it seemed clean and we had no issues. The bathrooms were shared, but they were always clean, and the showers were in good condition. Once you head to your room you realize how huge the building is; it is like a labyrinth. We found it interesting, but some might be annoyed by it, especially since there is no elevator. The workers were very nice, and the hostel had a lot to offer. A $1 coffee vending machine, a reading room, a luggage room for early arrivals, and more. The entire basement is kitchen space and dining areas plus a laundry room. Given the location of the historic quarter and all it has to offer, I highly recommend this to anyone other than those who put a premium on luxury.

Clean, beautiful nice place. We got a private room with seperate bathroom. U have to park little further from the hostel but it is not too bad. I was able to park infront of the hostel, unload stuff, check in, put all luggage inside the room during that park. Then i parked at the parking garage which is like 3 mins walk. Staff are really friendly. They didn't tell me they had free wifi. I didn't even ask since i only stayed for one night. I got to know about it through the survey questions. Lol They have different activities for people stay in the hostel too. Didn't have time to participate. Maybe next time Highly recommend this place

The location of this price is excellent. It is close to everything you need: supermarkets, delicious food, the main tourist attractions. It also provided a card that allows for unlimited 3 days of bus rides which was really useful for me. The staff were generally helpful, respectful, and patient. I particularly appreciated the help of Marie, Nari, and Chris who helped me for various things such as delivering a parcel that I did not receive back to my country.

I recommend this great hostel. It's one of the best hostels I've ever been to. The place was super clean, safe, and with lots of kind staff and fellow tourists. The building is huge, having a lot of different kinds of rooms. Of course, there were lockers, a laundry room, a big kitchen, a dining place, and much more. All of these facilities were clean and nice.

Great hostel! We stayed two nights in a private room and shared bathrooms. There was never a wait for the bathrooms and the room was clean and tidy. The bed wasn't the most comfortable but the other features made up for it. The location was perfect and within a 5 minute walk from most attractions. The breakfast wasn't that great but you have plenty of options to eat out instead for pretty cheap within the area if you prefer. The staff were friendly and helpful and we did the free walking tour which was very informative. I would stay here again!

It was my second time staying in this place. I loved the location and the clean rooms it has. There are rooms with separate service and there are those without it. You can drink fresh coffe almost any time during the day 😊 the staff are polite and helpful ☺️ this place will be my first choice every time I go to Quebec City for sure. I love the fact that if the room is ready they will let you check in earlier so you would not waste any time exploring the old Quebec 😉

This is a good and affordable hostel in general if you don't mind sharing a room with others, although they have private rooms as well. The building is within the city walls so it's old but pretty clean inside, and you can't get a much better location. However, I wasn't happy about quality of sleep in the shared room. Bunk beds are short and not comfortable (I am 177 cm). Management could certainly have used better and thicker mattresses. It was windy during my visit so the window was rattling, and the hostel was accommodating dozens of kids at that time of the year (in May) so the corridors were a bit noisy at night. Buffet breakfast was OK at best and I was able to have it early before the scheduled time on my checkout day so I could catch my train on time.

This is a hostel, not a hotel. But this property is located within the Quebec City walls and is steps from restaurant and store lined streets. You can choose to have a private or shared room with private or shared bathrooms. The rooms and bathrooms are clean although their mattresses really need to be replaced as I felt like sleeping in a large basin, and there’s no AC. But don’t forget - I’m not paying $300 per night at the Delta nor $600 at the Fairmont so this is a great place if you simply need a clean place to spend the night. Staff are friendly to English speaking tourists, unlike most other places in QC. An extra chair in the room for 2 would be great. The room is for 2 people with a bunk bed then why only 1 chair? Sitting on the lower bunk is impossible unless you’re 3 feet tall/short.

This is an excellent hostel in a fantastic location in Old Quebec. It's within walking distance of many of the city's main attractions. It has tons of clean and spacious dorms and privates. The mattresses and pillows are very comfortable. There are plenty of washrooms; all are very clean. The kitchen is big and spacious, with plenty of pans, dishes and appliances. The staff is friendly and helpful. They offer a daily free walking tour of Old Quebec, which we recommend.

Unbeatable location within the the old city that made the entirety of our trip doable without a car. We had a private room with private bathroom and found the double bed comfortable and clean. Overall a quiet and respectful hostel experience. Be warned, no air conditioner but the provided fan was quite powerful. Kitchen was large and had most things expected. The courtyard patio was a fantastic place to relax. The free historical walking tour is run out of the lobby and gave a great overview of the city and its history, I strongly recommend it.

I recommend solo traveler to stay here. Staffs are friendly and nice. Location are decent, spaces are big. But I hope can see the improvement of privacy part, on the Wednesday afternoon when I stayed in my room, a guy just opened the door for checking if another bed is well cleaned, he didn’t knock first, I was changing my clothes for naps… plus it’s female dorms…

My sister and I stayed here for a weekend and really enjoyed it. They have private rooms as well as dormitories for students or backpackers willing to share space to save money. The location is prime - we were able to walk everywhere in old city and we were close to several restaurants and coffee shops. There was a jam session one night while we were there, and there's a game room where we played a board game with some other residents- lots of fun! My favorite thing is how sustainable they are. The community kitchen has baskets for both your dry and perishable foods (honor system - and it seemed everyone was very respectful of other people's food) and when you leave, you can put your unused items in the "free food" baskets which other people can use. Less waste and such a supportive culture. I definitely recommend this place!

Very good hostel. Clean rooms, great staff, excellent location. not loud or chaotic. More than enough bathrooms on each floor. The only thing that could be better, is if each bunk had a privacy curtain. Other than that, it's a 10/10

A great hostel! We came as a big group. It was clean, friendly, and had lots of space. Bathrooms were a little gross sometimes but staff was quick to fix. The location is amazing! Walking up the hill is intense but being so close to everything makes it worth it! I'd stay here again for sure.

This has been a great spot to stay at. To start off when I booked my stay I picked the wrong date. I called the day before I was to book in and they happily changed my date. It is located in an amazing location, only minutes from everything in. The room and bathroom was very clean and the beds were comfortable. I highly recommend booking here.

We were in Quebec City during a heatwave. Stayed in a private room with a shared bathroom. The room was easily 30° at night. Even though we paid in advance, the Auberge refunded her money so we could find accommodation more suited to our needs.

Good service and location (located in Old Quebec). Rooms and restrooms are clean. Good breakfast. The only thing I don't satisfy with is the lack of a hair dryer, shampoo, and body wash. However, I had really good stay overall!

The staff are phenomenal. Spacious, CLEAN and central location in old Quebec. There is a staff (wish I got his name) British guy who works there who gave me lots of tips when exploring the city and surroundings. Honestly the BEST hostel I’ve ever stayed at and I’ve travelled all over the world!

Room that we got was bit too small for 8 people. But some other rooms we saw were big enough. Kitchen and dining was big and spacious. Bathrooms at times were enough for all visitors. Breakfast choices aren't as many. One big advantage of this hostel though is its location. It is right in downtown Quebec and everything well-known is within 1km of it. Staff is helpful too. A good place overall at reasonable price.

I just finished my stay at this hostel during the Carnaval de Québec. We were a family of 3 staying. For the price and location, you really can't beat it. In terms of a hostel, it's really about what you'd expect. Rooms seemed clean enough. Hallways were a bit more dirty, but they were in the process of renovations so that made sense. Downstairs there's breakfasts in the morning from 7-10 am, and in the evenings there's a bar. The breakfast has most of the basics you'd need to start your day. The beer at nighttime was good. They have utensils, bowls, stoves, microwaves for if you would like to make your own meals, and even a large fridge where you can leave food items that you may want to store during your stay there. The private room we got was really the bare minimum, but we didn't need anything more than that. It had three chairs and a bunk bed. The only downside I found was the level of noise there. Hostels are really always going to be noisy, that's their nature, many people coming and going and walls are usually paper thin. I thought that people would try to be a bit quieter past 11 pm but that was not the case. It was loud on our floor until I could finally fall asleep around 1 am. Thankfully my son is a deeper sleeper than I am. 😂 As for the shared bathroom, I found the door for the women's washroom to be quite stiff on the 3rd floor. It takes about 3 pulls to finally get in, the 1st and 2nd pull it almost feels like the door is locked, but it isn't. Overall good value, and the staff was very pleasant.

Great hostel for a short stay. Highly recommend the guided tour. Hot breakfast in the morning was a welcome perk with toast, bagels, cereal, coffee and fruit. Shared bathrooms were clean. No issues with security or comfort. Very helpful and cheerful staff. Able to easily stay with little to no French language skills

1)Great location 2)Nice and responsive front desk staff 3)Would be better if they had limitation for check-in time in stead of saying any time after 4pm! Some guests arrived after mid night and as the rooms are shared they made noise to get in to their bed....

I’ve stayed in a whole tonne of hostels and so have a fairly good frame of reference. This hostel is definitely one of the nicer ones out there - super clean, decent facilities, friendly and helpful staff, super secure storage area for bike and luggage. It’s also located right in the centre which is perfect for food/drinks and just general exploring Also side note - this hostel is huge! I actually got lost exploring lol

Stayed here 5 nights with my girlfriend and had a great time! As another reviewer mentioned, there is no A/C - which was a bit stressful initially with the heatwave. However, when we asked if another fan was available, they provided us with one. We slept a lot better after that. There are no breakfasts right now due to covid, but I wouldn’t say that subtracted anything from our enjoyment of the place. There IS free coffee, which is great. The kitchen is still useable, and honestly very clean. We used it quite a few times. The dining room, as well, is spacious and tidy. For the rooms themselves, we got a private room with bunk beds. The beds were nice to sleep on! Honestly, we didn’t really use the blankets due to the heat. But the room as a whole was large, and had a nice table within. Showers were great. My girlfriend found them a bit small, but being a smaller person myself, I found it fine. The bathrooms were pretty big and clean. There is adequate spacing due to covid right now, which made me feel safer. I never had any bad encounters with other residents in the bathroom. It can be noisy at night, but sound never bothered me when I sleep. It was never that bad, anyways. The most we heard was some stomping, but it didn’t stop us from sleeping. All in all, the hostel was pretty quiet. Though that may be due to the pandemic. Anyways, we had a great stay! There’s lots of restaurants and fun places down there street, too. We would definitely stay again:) *As a side-note, being part of the LGBT+ community I felt pretty safe here. Only had one bad encounter, but that was outside the hostel. The hostel itself made me feel safe and I would definitely recommend going.

The hostel is in a great location with wonderful welcoming staff. The room was basic, spacious and clean. There is a lovely outdoor courtyard with lots of seating plus a ramp & rack for bike storage. There are also lots of comfortable indoor common areas to relax in. Pre-Covid, I am sure the common areas would have been bustling with activities & people. Right now the are lovely, calm, inviting. The entire hostel including the bedrooms have beautiful tall windows that can be opened completely to allow for maximum natural ventilation

Indeed commendable and outstanding from kirchen to housekeeping staffs. They are all helpful and efficient. Nari from reception is exceptional for his politeness and genuine kindness. He was very patient in accommodating my request for an early check in. And what makes a difference was he helped me with my luggages. I highly appreciate his amazing customer service. Truly one of your best team players.

Beautiful location and cheap rooms. The staff are helpful and really friendly. We had a private room with a private bathroom, and everything was clean. A free tour was offered to us for free in the morning! I absolutely recommend this Hostel! The best in Old Quebec!

Hostel is in a great location, close to all major tourist attractions. The rooms are a bit old, no privacy curtains or AC. Breakfast is pretty good with some fresh fruits, bagels, cereal and coffee. While the hostel isn't the greatest in terms of room quality, the staff are very friendly! Special shout out to Olivier, Gabo, and Penelope at the bar.

We arrived at the hostel near 1630h after a 6.5 hour motorcycle ride from Montreal (on the "Chemin du Roy"). We were first amazed by it's cleanliness and the speed and simplicity of securing our reserved private room (with bathroom). The reception people were friendly, helpful and bilingual. Our room was large, airy and immaculate. We were also pleased to find that one of the main resto/bar/ shopping areas were less than a 15 min. walk from the auberge. In fact the furthest point of Vieux Quebec was only a 30-40 min walk away....no car necessary. The kitchen and dining area was large and airy, and there was always free coffee available in the lobby! We definitely will stay here again when we re-visit Old Quebec in the winter!!! BRAVO to the staff AND management!

Very nice hostel. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The coffee is the best I have ever had! And the rooms are super comfortable. The location is very convenient and close to everything in the city center. And the prices of the dorms are affordable.

My wife and I stayed in a private room with a double bed and private bathroom including shower during Carnaval. Clean and comfortable. Kitchen is well appointed. TV is in common room. You can use an Android app to watch CBC Gem for free. Many other channels on satellite. Staff is friendly. Good restaurants, small grocery store and pharmacy nearby as it is close to Rue St. Jean and a 6 minute walk to parliament buildings and Carnaval attractions.

Great place, great price and amazing staff. Special thanks to staff members Christobal, Nari and Line for an amazing service, and the suggestions on places to eat! The place is being maintained nicely, the room, all common areas are well maintained, clean. The place has a kitchen/bar, tv room and a common pantry. It is located in the old town and all major attractions, places are at a walking distance. Highly recommended!

Great location, extremely clean and knowledgeable bilingual staff. My only problem with this place was the social life. I came here the 2nd week of August, and no one under 30 stays for more than a day or two max, and in general people very much stay to themselves. If you're coming in a group or are more of an introvert this is the place for you - if you want to make some friends or want the classic social hostel atmosphere you should stay elsewhere

Stayed there for a while week, it was a good stay. When we first checked in, we found that the room we booked was no longer available, but they looked for another room for us and provided for the whole week. Cancellations at the last moment are very common in this hostel during high seasons.

Nice hostel right in Old Town. Just a couple minutes walk away and you feel as if you have transported to Europe. Private room was small with a nice bed but very thin blanket. Washrooms and shower are shared. The price is fully affordable on a budget. This hostel is 1 block away from the legendary Saint-Jean Street, filled with restaurants and shops. Recommended.

It's a hostel, not the Hilton. That being said, it is clean, safe and has just what you need need for a shower and a place to sleep. Nice staff. Be prepared to walk up a few floors.

Genuinely great customer service, that's always there to help you, and always gets what you need. The rooms and bathrooms are always clean. It's a 10 minute walk from every major attraction, and if you need to go further, close to a bus terminal. Overall a very comfortable and pleasant experience.

Great location in the old city. Parking at 79 Rue Dauphin for C$18, but best to enter garage from across the Quebec City Montreal Downtown as the entrance via the old city was treacherous during snowy weather. Had a private room though private bathroom was not connected but next door. Room is a bit dim due to poor lighting. Noisy from doors opening and closing and street traffic. Staff was polite, gracious, and very kind. Very convenient to the old city. I would highly recommend this accomodations.

stayed here in the winter almost 3 years ago, and after staying at more hostels in a bunch more countries and knowing that here I got away with checking out like 5 hours later than i was supposed to with just an annoyed look from the cashier I've come to appreciate that in hindsight

A lot of cons for the low rating. Positive first- good location and reasonable price. Cons: The hostel is up a sheer straight hill. It killed me walking from the train station and had to stop to catch my breath- no indication from website or google maps. Have mobility issues, was challanging. I booked 4 months in advance and emailed facility ahead to let them know I had mobility issues. Was told was going to be accomodated. Got a lower bunk.... On the third floor. No elevator and multiple sets of stairs. Even when you are on your on floor there are still stairs in between the floor. Showers are too small. Had to rinse. Open the shower door to wash and close it to rinse again. 3rd floor middle women's shower goes from freezing to scalding in a 10 seconds. Burned myself before I could get out. There is no air condition in the hostel. We had a fan on max for our room and due to the bed set up, cool air was hitting wooden front of bed not me. Would I return again? Not till air condition is added and they accomodate for mobility. And I will definitely take a cab from Gare du Palais next time.

Really cool hostel, largest in (north america?) I believe. You cant really control what your roommates do but other than that the hostel was great, you get your own locker and shelf, free coffee in the morning and amazing location!

Visiting in July in a solo room and had a fantastic time. The room was clean, bed was comfortable, and the private bathroom was a great addition. Highly recommend! The location is in the heart of Quebec City. The only downside is there is no AC. The room was equip with a large fan that could be placed in front of the windows, but wasn't as cool as I could have preferred in July. Sometimes, I could hear people walking in the floor above me and there were many passerby that were having a fun night out (it was festival season), but otherwise, no noise issues. This would have been an issue at any hotel during the time I visited. Great stay, would visit again.

Formidable! This Auberge has it all: location, character, value and nice sized rooms. Simon and team make this the best auberge I've ever been too. Everyone is super friendly and accommodating. Why book Frontenac when you could stay here???
