I really have to admit that the rooms were as described in the other comment. The doors were quite hard to lock.. BUT the owner was very very nice and welcoming even as I told him I won‘t stay. He was friendly to me.

Please, for your own good, do not stay here! I have stayed in some terrible places but this one wins the gold star. Grim and dirty with old, squeaky beds and awful plastic mattresses and pillows. The toilets were dirty, had no soap or towel. The shower was tiny with no ventilation and barely enough space to get undressed. The owner who greeted me could do with a personality transplant. Unnecessarily rude and couldn't care about anything other than the sandwich he was stuffing into his mouth. By far the most dislikable person I've met in Québec. I visited a friend in the hostel (Maeva) around the corner and the owner greeted me with a smile and told me that I was welcome to sit around and enjoy the hostel as much as I wanted even though I wasn't a guest. Polar opposite to the moron at the desk in LA Belle Planète. I was surprised to meet other's staying here, I must not be the only one who doesn't read reviews! On a positive note I actually met some really nice people staying here and the location is in Saint-Roch which is good for bars and some restaurants. If the owner was nice and the price was lower I would say that maybe it's an average place to stay, but I stayed in two other hostels nearby for cheaper which were MUCH nicer. Do yourself a favour and don't stay here, there are better options.

Cosy place to stay for only a couple of nights. We stayed during the long weekend for Labor Day 2022 so rates were high season. Mr. Pierre is very welcoming and informative about all the activities available in the area he gave you a map and explains how to go around the city. Although, some guests make a mess of the place especially the kitchen so there's a lot of cleaning to do before being able to cook and some lady decided to use dinning area to leave all of her belongings. Bathrooms in the 2d floor are very tiny, the fan don't really extract anything from the shower on 1st floor. Table outside is very unstable so you can't really put your cup of coffee without dropping it. Hostel is well located next to a large commercial street with several amenities. We stayed in a tent on the terrace for urban camping it was charming and the owner gave us a lot of blankets to make sure we were not cold. Overall, experience was interesting but the place should have more strict policies about consuming alcohol/ smoking and behavior from the guests cuz ppl smoked in the bathroom too. It's a shame cuz the place has potential to give a nice experience maybe be more selective with kind of guests.

The owner of this hostel is a really creepy little man, likes to hang around with the guests who are 30 years his junior. I found him very rude seems like if your French speaking you should be ok otherwise you will get a cold reception

The worst hostel Ive ever seen. Clerk at the counter is unprofessional and careless. He told me no rooms are available in the males' dorm although my reservation clearly shown females. I was shocked and said but I booked for a females' dorm and he said yes dont worry those too are not available. So they placed me in a private twin room no one else was occupying it. But seeing how the hostel was and its surroundings (bar in front and lots of homeless people around and a door's code never changing and a careless clerk at the reception I was really frightened at night that those homeless people may get inside the hostel). I also heard from a traveller that the hostel had bed bugs and shown me where he was beaten by them and also he caught one. I was scheduled to stay there for two nights but ended up staying for one night. The hostel is absolutely awful thats what u get I guess when you go for the cheapest hostel in town. I stayed at Hostel international (Hi) which is a chain and it was absolutely excellent and not expensive. Do not stay at this hostel if u care about yourself more than u care about money. Also people on the bar in front, keep screaming and arguing amongst them and the homeless people are likely to hang near the hostel and it makes it super risky for tourists who are not used to Quebec city.

It was awful. There was a 40y old refugee in our room who made us very uncomfortable and we couldn’t sleep bc of his snoring. Windows in the room couldn’t be openend or the people next to it would freeze so there was no air in the room as we were 8 in a very very small space. The second night we decided to sleep on the sofa’s bc we were too traumatised by the guy and the room. In the morning we got waken up by a 70y old schizophrenic woman who claimed we stole her place. The hygiene was not good either: toilets were fine but the shower was full of flies. Owner is friendly and helpful tho. I would not recommend

Despite all the bad reviews I booked two nights here. And I have to say I'm glad I did. For the price it's great. You only get the basics (no towel included) but the place is clean and the patio is awesome. This is a backpackers/hostel, so don't expect a hotel experience. Book it if you want a cheap place to sleep!

If you're looking for a no-frills, cheap hostel, then this is the place for you. It is conveniently located in the adorable St. Roch neighborhood. A lot of the reviews were bad based on customer service, but I honestly had the best experience with Pierre! He was super friendly and accommodating, and he even gave us tips on the best places to eat and drink in the area. The only true downside to this place is the comfort levels of the cheap bunks, as well as the noise from the bar across the street. But if you keep your expectations low and bring a spare pair of ear plugs, then this is the best bang for your buck hostel you'll get in the heart of Quebec City!

It is OK for one night, if you have no expectations. The bed had a plastic mattress and pillow. It was smelly, too. We switched places even though we paid for more. What a pitty. This could be a good place giving it is in walking distance to the Old Town.

By the time you're reading this, you must be contemplating wether to book here or not. As early as now, "put your money somewhere else." I have no issues with the staffs, they are very friendly and welcoming. My concern, however, which will also be yours is the proper ventilation. I was surprised that there are no ACs in any of the rooms. Most of us slept half naked, and that even if we had a cold shower. Take note that this is a hostel and you will be staying with other people (at least 3 or 4). This will accumulate body heat inside the room which will add up to the injury -- not to mention body odor of other guest. I also noticed that they are using a very old WiFi modem that can only support up to 20 users. If the entire place is full, I hope they have priority numbers for WiFi usage. 1st 20, 1st served 😂🤣😂🤣 Don't get me wrong though. Other than the ventilation, this is umyour typical hostel. 😊

(Translated by Google) Very poor to see almost non-existent Wifi, the house is old and we notice that the managers do not do much to improve the premises, few showers compared to the number of travelers, long waits, dirty toilets, broken taps, squeaky beds. and so on. Breakfast at the generous pace but ultimately quite poor. However, pleasant and warm welcome.

Owner of this hostel is a nice and hardworking fellow. He is maintaining it single handed from preparing breakfast to housekeeping. I will like to stay here if I come to quebec again.

For an independently managed central city hostel, this is pretty good. Since it's close to downtown, the space can seem a bit small but that's expected. Pierre, the owner, is pretty helpful and can give you some good tips about local things to do and even other places to travel to.

Worst hostel I have ever stayed at, and I've stayed at a lot. There was absolutely no ventilation in an 8 bed room that had 9 people because they made a booking error. It was so hot no one could sleep except for one guy who snored all night and there were no fans or windows open, let alone ac. Wasn't expecting luxury, but I was expecting at least livability. Also, it's on a run down street and one of the ground floor dorm windows was broken with plastic taped over it. Do not recommend.

It’s 30 minutes walk away from old Quebec. The hostel is liveable, just requires a bit of maintenance. Breakfast (pancakes and sourdough) every morning. Very nice host.

This is a fabulous, old-school, cozy backpackers hostel. Modest, rustic, great location, extremely affordable price.

  • 1/5 Alexandra F. 5 years ago on Google
The owner wasn't as bad as everyone said but the place itself was pretty awful. We were in a room with no window, no fan, no ac and it got to be 40+ degrees in there. I've literally never ever been so hot in my life - the pillowcase was drenched from us sweating on them. And it wasn't even the hottest day in QC, but just *so* stuffy in there. Every other room seemed to have a large window /fan. Avoid the terrace (5person) room and @owner - spend $30 bucks on a fan !!!!! Really...

If I could give it fewer than one star I would- the co-owner is extremely rude- pretty much breaking the customer service rule of conduct 101- he told me to shut up because I pointed out that it wasn’t ‘incredibly easy’ to find the hostel after working hours. In most circumstances I would also have interpreted this as misogynistic. Really, do not stay here by any means- spend ca 10 dollars extra and sleep somewhere else. Yes

Clean, safe, good location. No fancy bells and whistles to write home about, but it's a good place to stay to see a beautiful city.

  • 1/5 Chad M. 8 years ago on Google
Absolutely terrible experience. The owner was incredibly rude and made us feel quite uncomfortable. He yelled at us for reasons I still am trying to figure out. In reading other comments on other sites, I can see that this is actually a bit of a trend. I have stayed at many hostels around the world and this was the worst encounter by far! Strongly consider staying anywhere else, there are so many other great places to stay.

Horrible customer service. They forgot our reservation and we had to pay more than expected to make up for it. They do not care about the comfort of the people staying there. No proper lockers to place your luggage in. And not to mention, this place is dirty. The bed sheets smell bad, and everything is on the verge of breaking. The kitchen is dirty, the fridge smells HORRIBLE. And not to mention, none of the bathrooms have soap. Stay away!

An outstanding hostel. A friend and I stayed 5 nights in a 6-bed all female room. The whole space had such a warm and welcoming feel that I instantly felt like I was at home. The place is very clean and tastefully decorated. Every morning the owners personally make loads of pancakes and bread/biscuits for the guests along with an assortment of jam options, butter and coffee/tea, as included with the stay. A full shared kitchen and fridge is available for guests. Bedsheets and pillow are provided and some comforters were in the bedroom but I'm not sure if they are in every room (bring your own blanket just in case). There were also personal lockers in our room (bring your own lock). The location was perfect, the owners were super friendly and helpful, and the hostel itself was very high quality. I recommend this to anyone and would give it 10 stars if I could! I will definitely be coming back.

Great owners, great location, great price..met great people. But dont expect much..Can be hard to sleep as walls are thin, curtains dont keep sunlight out, and bunk beds are old.Kitchen is a great place to meet people but small, and bathroom are often full. If you keep your expectations low it could be great, but dont expect anything more than meeting a great community of people, and getting a so so nights sleep.

I was conned by the good reviews and regretted it the moment I saw my bed. It was after paying and there is no refund. This was the first time I encounter bed bugs after staying at so many hostels. I book this last minute, wished I had done more research..it's really a cheap place to stay if you are on a budget. It's really what you pay for.I was out looking for alternative accommodation the second day. Pans are all rusty to cook pancakes in. It's old, dirty every where. I must agree that the owners are nice people. But this is just not within my tolerable limit.by the way, the entrance is within a quiet alley, not good when you come back at night.

Probably the best hostel I've been to yet. The 6 dorm female room was pretty spacious, and the one bathroom for all 6 of us wasn't too bad. Unfortunately a girl who was clearly sick was also staying there, causing me to become extremely ill shortly after leaving.. The employees were very nice though, and over-all the experience was good. I'd highly recommend it even though it looks run-down from the outside.

A supermarket next door, as well as cafes and restaurant. The palace station is 5 minutes walk to take the bus or trains. Hearty breakfast and really appreciated. (Translated by Google) Quite friendly hostel, friendly staff, very affordable and sociable, cleaning done every day, and very good location. To be perfect it would have been necessary that there is a bar for the evening, small dances and also a laundry service ... but the essential is there, ie to sleep peacefully and the lunch is very correct also , I rate this hostel a rating of 17/20.
