Amazing hike combined with rock climbing to get to both the Viewpoint and lagoon. Quite a tough climb down into the lagoon, pretty much a vertical drop. Definitely recommend trainers/walking shoes, NO SANDALS - you will only injure yourself. Took about 2hrs in total to get to and from Viewpoint and lagoon.

Definitely worth it... if you survive the climb to the lagoon. It's only about 150m, but those are not to be underestimated. There are 3 climbs down on basically vertical cliffs of about 4 meters height with only a rope to hold on to; and the rocks themselves, of course. There are many natural, easy to grab holds, but everything is wet and slippy because it is a canyon through which the rain water drains from the mountains into the lagoon. I have not much climbing experience myself but made it down somewhat easily, though I will admit that it is not without dangers. When you enter the lagoon it's a breathtaking view. Often you are alone because people won't attempt the climb to get there. If you go into the water you may at times feel like you are stung by a lot of tiny spikes. This is apparently because of some micro jellyfish which you cannot see. The feeling will wear off, however, after you leave the water or later the same day. When you are down there don't miss the cave on the opposite site to the entrance! And don't forget that you have to also climb up again, too :D (but it's definitely much easier than down!)

As everyone has mentioned here in the comments, the hiking was a tremendous experience! It needs a lot of courage and fitness to reach the destination! There is no path, but steep rocks where there are ropes to help! You have to take step by step holding the ropes, if you are short like me(5'5 ft) , at times you can't find a feet for a second or two and you have to fully rely on the ropes and lean down to find the feet! But at the end it was a mind-blowing experience hiking up and down! While climbing up, you need to pull yourself up at two places to find your feet! But 4 stars and 1 down because after all these efforts of hiking I didn't get to see the stunning view which was guaranteed, and instead a muddy swamp :( Not sure whether it was because of sunny weather, or something happened to the pool or just my bad luck! But kudos to the hikers.. Keep hiking!!

A wonderful place, if the tide is high you can have a nice swimming. It is safe on the lagoon, however the way to get there can be risky and dangerous, because of high rocks. Climbing up and down the hill, pass by the Railay View Point. Use right footware, no sandals!

A challenging hike if you're uncomfortable with vertical climbs, but a lot of fun! Check the tides before you go, as the lagoon fills and empties with the tide. We went at low tide, it was muddy, but the caves were fun to explore!

This is possible my favourite visit of my entire trip to Thailand! It’s also one of the hardest trails! It’s vertical climbing and I would advise to do it in appropriate foot ware! We went in crocs not ideal!

To visit the emerald lagoon, walk along the pathway to the southern beach until you see signs for the viewpoint/lagoon, hike up the hill, take the path to the right and follow the trail down. Incredible adventure! - Wear good shoes. You have to descend sharp rocks using ropes. Going down is harder than coming up. - The lagoon is tidal. If the water is out on the beach then expect a muddy swamp. - Too dangerous if it’s been raining! - You will get covered in muddy clay.

Absolutely beautiful. You need to time it with the tide. Its a bit of slow slog up then down but completely worth it

Moderate to difficult climb to get to the viewpoint. This is accessible for most if you have stable footwear. The Lagoon is a very difficult hike and climb, that should only be attempted if you have good full body strength, stable footwear and it hasn't rained or isn't due to. Overall, the views are breathtaking and worth the climb down if you're safe.

It’s not an easy way down. But it’s one you’ll never forget. Absolutely radiates adventure! Have done this twice over the past 5 years and is one of my Thailand highlights.

Incredible place, terrible to get there. Sharp, slippery rockfaces, climbing up and down. The red mud will stain your shoes and clothes forever. You need to be physically active to venture here. Whn you come to the trail/way up, just now that on the other side it is like 10 times as bad.

The last two descendants just before the lagoon are challenging especially if it has rained recently but the reward is majestic

Jesus christ, what a hike. Absolutely worthwhile if you have some upper body strength to pull yourself up ropes and down verticals. Good reach helps too. I have a moderate fitness level and was worried more than once. The view at rhe bottom is stunning.

To be straight to the point for people wondering to do it or not. Its a very difficult track to and from the Lagoon. I did it the day after it had rained and the conditions were probably at it's worst. Those confident in their physical abilities or athletics will enjoy the path but will still struggle. Wouldn't recommend going if it's not dry for almost everyone but when the path is not wet those with above average physical abilities should definitely check it out. Please take it slow and safe there and back, if you were to injure yourself especially alone you will be stuck there with no reception and at the mercy of someone else coming along.

A very good walk amid the jungle which ended in a relaxing swim in the natural pool. There are 3 different pools and only one is open for swimming. The best pool was blue pool which was indeed blue in color.
